Exiled from her home, Sienna Nealon finds herself among the windswept fields of Scotland, stalking a dangerous murderer who has more in common with her than any other foe she's ever faced. But when the killer changes the game, Sienna will be forced to into a contest with a quarry more canny than she's been tested against before - and led into a confrontation that will change her life forever.

Hunters:Out of the Box (The Girl in the Box Book 25)
Wow, I was totally not expecting that outcome.I think this book was incredibly well done and I would recommend this series highly! This Author is incredibly creative.
I have become a big fan of this series and I've enjoyed every book in it. That is 25 books if you include The Girl in the Box books. I was frustrated for much of this book. Part of my enjoyment of the series has been watching Sierra, the heroine, grow over time. Unfortunately, in this book she is less intelligent, more irritable and less witty and charming than ever before. There's plenty of action, but for some reason it didn't grip me as much as usual. I also really resent it when a story ends on an obvious cliffhanger, I feel cheated and like I'm being manipulated into buying the next book. Of course I expect there to be loose ends in any series, but this was just an obvious cliffhanger with no resolution to anything at all, except the author's note effectively telling me to tune in next time to see what happens. And by the way, this is a trilogy, so expect another cliffhanger at end of the next book. And by the end of the trilogy I'll REALLY understand the villain's motivation. I'm not sure I care all that much about the villain's motivation.
Blah blah blah "great writer", blah blah blah "prolific publishing schedule", blah blah blah "hugely enjoyable"... well - you get the picture.
I've said before that it can be a little difficult to write a review which doesn't simply recycle previous reviews ad nauseum.
However.
This book. O.M.G., this book.
Just when you think that Sienna has earned herself a little bit of a reprieve, it seems that the author has decided quite the opposite to be necessary.
With character flashbacks that flesh out essential history, this story will inevitably have you thinking "how is she going to get out of this"?
With a breathtaking betrayal, a seriously unhinged badguy and THAT ending (which was simply evil cliffhanger deliciousness), this is an addition to the series which will inevitably leave you wanting more. And it might leave you baying for blood. But maybe that's just me - who knows.
What I do know is that Crane is a master of the rollercoaster ride. I think I'll just stay on with my seatbelt firmly fastened...
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
You would think that, being the first book in either series where I was able to figure out the main plot twist the second it started being set up, Hunters would have been less enjoyable for me than the previous ones. This couldn't be further from the truth.
I've known for a while now that Sienna's (mis)adventures were going to take her to Scotland, and being from Scotland myself this was a source of no small amount of excitement. There's an extra element of...realness to this one because I can actually picture the places she describes going to, having been to them myself, and that's a new and exciting thing for me when it comes to Out of the Box.
In terms of the overarching narrative, a lot happens here, and it really raises the stakes by the end in a way that nothing else before it has. Although Sienna's been in some jams before, you always got the sense that she'd get out of it somehow. This is probably the first time where I'm genuinely concerned for her continued survival, but you'll have to buy the book if you want to find out why. :)
Let’s cut to the chase here: I think you can tell I like this series, I’ve read an entire 25 books of it and have no plans on stopping. They get me out of a reading slump real quick and Sienna is my all time favourite character. Like, ever.
This is one of the better in the series and the conclusion was epic! And surprisingly heartbreaking... but needed to happen. And Rose is now my second favourite character in the series, replacing a Brendan. *sobbing sounds*
These books are obviously not plot masterpieces, but it is the best written action...ever. So I owe a lot to this series and keep ‘em coming! I’m ready for the absolute reset of the next one.
Seeing Sienna forced into a new environment and how she adapts to her new home was one thing. When she ended up facing a new enemy that makes all the past ones look like a piece of cake was something else entirely. The plot twists, laughs, and insanely amazing ending left so many unanswered questions, all I can think about at the moment is how badly I want to get my hands on book #16. Time can't go by fast enough!
Its incredible that this series is still going on so strong. Sienna's character continues to grow and (maybe because I'm British I love this but) the banter is just as high calibre as always. Would love to see this televised and would also recommend joining the authors mailing list where he gives interesting insight to KU as well as upcoming releases. A prolific writter for those of us who are prolific readers.
I considered after the in the box series...the out of the box could be pretty darn good....it wasn't..IT WAS MAGNIFICENT.....and ongoing! I can read as long as Mr. Crane can write. Gotta go I am salivating for the next book, which awaits me now. I am a 76 year-old Great Grandma....call me GGma. I suggest if you haven't read any of the series you start now! Have fun and Thanks Mr. Crane!!!
Now I have to wait till the next book. How am I going to manage? I am lost for words. What a fantastic read. Having read all of Sienna's story so far I cannot wait for the next t instalment. To all of you out there that haven't read The girl in the box or Out of the box series WHY NOT?? Read them! Read them now!
Omg. I can't believe the conclusion of this one. I'm so pleased its taken me so long to read the complete series, that number 16 is out, downloaded and ready to read. I have to honestly say Robert J. Crane you are now one of my favourite must read asap authors.
I need the Syfy channel to go ahead and make this series into a TV series! Mr. Crane manages to keep the reader on their toes because nothing is ever quite what it seems. Whenever I think there is nowhere else to go with the plots, he finds a way to add color, clarity and confusion.
I read the reviews before the book and I’m really baffled as to why so many did not like this turn in Sienna’s story. I truly enjoy all the backstory in this book. So many things I’ve wondered about Wolfes origin story have now been answered. I can’t wait to see where this takes Sienna. Great book!
Wow. Just wow. Can't wait until Sept 12 when the next one comes out! How Robert J Crane keeps this story fresh is beyond me, but I admire it! The proofreading slipped a bit on this one, but not a big deal when you are racing along with the story. Keep 'em coming!
I'm from Scotland and would have rated it 5 stars but I found the writing in the Scottish accent really cringey and off-putting and being from Scotland there were a few errors that I noticed which ruined it a bit for me.
This book was gripping from beginning to end, absolutely loved everything about it and the ending is a real cliff hanger fantastically written and cannot contain my excitement for the next book in this series
The first book of 3 starts at a hellish pace with two main stories interwoven, to god effect. Any Robert j Crane fan will not be disappointed with this book. Keeps delivering the punches in all the right places.
This one was quite different to me. New characters added to the story along with the old ones that traveled in Sienna's head. There were some unexpected event that gave me pause.
Robert has a great knack of leaving you on the last page screaming "nooooooooooo!" - at least in your head. And he's done it again with this book. I've already downloaded the next two. Hope no one expects to see me again until I've read them both!
Wow! What an amazing book here. Can not wait to read the next one with that cliffhanger! OMG!!!! Where does he get this stuff? I have loved everyone in these book and will no doubt will continue to with the rest.
This series started on a whim for me. Who could write a series this long, and me stay invested!? This author!! This series does NOT drop you off once, you have to keep on and on. And you happily do it. Start at book 1!!!
This book has made me frustrated, mad, and sad. Some very interesting parts with Wolfe and some very slow parts investigating a supposed succubus killing meta-humans for their power. Rose was sweet and then she was something else. I cannot believe the ending. Just wow. :-(
