This series is also somewhat hard-boiled, but include a touch of romance and humor as Doug sorts out his relationship with his former boss, Jill Rickowski. The Whistling Pine series are cozies set in Two Harbors Minnesota. The story is set in northern Minnesota where a logging crew is about to start cutting a stand of old growth hardwood trees. A group of protesters block the entrance to the forest to deny the loggers access when a bomb goes off cutting down a tree that falls on a logger’s truck, killing him. That makes it murder. Lots of twists and turns with surprises. A great story.
I usually read female authors so this was a change for me in writing style. A lot less descriptive writing but still a good story. There is a lot going on in this book, and several mysteries in a mystery that need figuring out. I enjoyed this book for the story and the places in this book, I am from this area so it's neat to see places I know talked about in a book.
Dean Hovey, I read this book when it first came out & absolutely loved your writing. It's a story that puts you on the edge of your chair right up to the last page. It's a book that is hard to put down, so I decided that I needed to read it again. Enjoyed it as much the second time as the first. THANK You very much.
Bookclub May 2019 haven’t read it yet as of May 31 2019 but I picked up my copy at library today so there is hope. Read in less than a week. Enjoyed the premise, the genealogy aspect, the setting (I lived in that area for 15 years). Nice read. A friend was disappointed about inaccuracies regarding the Indian Treaties and others Native representation in the book, issues about which I was unaware.
