Rate this book
If you're a business owner, entrepreneur, expert, speaker, author, coach or consultant who would love to create marketing materials that attract, inspire and invite your ideal prospects to become ideal clients without sounding hype-y or sales-y, then this book may be exactly what you've been looking for.

In Michele's first book, "Love-Based Copywriting Method," she walks you through the philosophy of love-based copywriting and explains why traditional copy and marketing feels so icky. In this book, "Love-Based Copywriting System" she rolls up her sleeves and walks you though her exact system for writing copy that converts without feeling sleazy.

You'll discover exercises, examples, templates and more -- in fact, it's designed to be a "copywriting course in a book." You'll get detailed, step-by-step teachings of everything from headlines to features and benefits to presenting your offer and more, so if you follow along and complete the exercises, by the end of the book, you've got your copy created.

Also as a bonus, it included a free workbook!

A USA Today Bestselling, award-winning author, Michele taught herself to read at 3 years old because she wanted to write stories so badly. It took some time (and some detours) but now she does spend much of her time writing stories. Mystery stories, to be exact. They're clean and twisty, and range from psychological thrillers to cozies, with a dash of romance and supernatural thrown into the mix. If that wasn't enough, she posts lots of fun things on her blog, including short stories, puzzles, recipes and more, at MPWNovels.com.

Michele grew up in Wisconsin, (hence why all her books take place there), and currently lives there after spending nearly 30 years living in the mountains of Prescott, Arizona, with her husband and southern squirrel hunter Cassie.

When she's not writing, she's usually reading, hanging out with her dog, or watching the Food Network and imagining she's an awesome cook. (Spoiler alert, she's not. Luckily for the whole family, Mr. PW is in charge of the cooking.)

Oooof. This was such a blast from the past - and I don't mean that in a good way.

These are all techniques I used to use to write copy for clients in the early days of my business, but they just feel... uncomfortable now. Granted, a part of that is Ms PW's unfortunate habit of using weight loss copy in her examples, which just naturally makes the copy feel slimy and fear-based (seriously: if you're trying to show examples of love-based copywriting, don't include messages that promote disordered eating, body dysphoria and fat-phobic stigma).

And part of it is the flawed assumption that the person selling whatever the product is CAN guarantee results to a reader just because they've managed to get them for other previous customers, so it's OK to sell based on that assumption.

I did like that she actively recognised that it's genuinely OK for people to decide they don't want to buy - that's something I don't see enough copywriting training providers acknowledge. But it felt like the one bright point amongst a sea of of ick, and that's a big part of why I switched from copywriting to editing in the first place.

Glad I've got the book off my TBR pile, but this isn't a topic I want to read more about in future.

well, the woman can certainly sell herself and her book and I bought it. She has great credentials and knows how to put her pros in words. So yes, she knows about copywriting. Unfortunately I didn't find the writing or copy writing examples in this book very inspiring. Or perhaps it's a cultural thing. I like my copy a bit more subtle and less cliché. And perhaps with a touch of humor or personality?
There are some good lessons in here but it is very basic. 1,5 stars.
