In the 1960’s and early 1970’s, the infamous Zodiac Killer terrorized the California Bay Area and mesmerized the rest of the country with a haunting string of unsolved murders and violent attacks. With seven confirmed victims, including five brutal fatalities, the Zodiac eluded police for years, taunting them with bizarre ciphers and threatening letters.
Authorities challenged the Zodiac to create another of his famous cryptograms and reveal his identity. With his outrageous ego at stake, the killer responded by sending them the 340 Cipher… which was never solved.
But now, 47 years later, in his book Zodiac Solved! author Michael D. Sechrest – with the historical advantage of all the killers’ enigmatic correspondence, taunting clues, and cryptic lyrics from Gilbert and Sullivan – has finally cracked the 340 Cipher. The Zodiac killer’s TRUE IDENTITY is exposed at last in his own confession!
Mr. Sechrest, a board certified trial expert, has accomplished what the homicide investigators and code-cracking experts, have set out to do over the last 50 years...solve the Zodiac Killer Code. He is so certain of the solution, he wagers $10,000.00 against all readers.
My wife got us started watching a recent television series about trying to crack the Zodiac killer's 340 cipher which is supposed to reveal his true identity. Although there has been much speculation, no one has ever been conclusively identified as the Zodiac. The television series is using new techniques including a super computer to help solve the cipher. This piqued my interest and I saw this e-book for sale in which the author claims to have cracked the code and solved the cipher. The author does this entirely by trail and error using many clues and methodically describes how he developed the solution. I am anxious to see what the television show comes up with in comparison. My biggest complaint is that my e-reader wouldn't allow me to enlarge the many diagrams and maps making many of them unreadable - at least to my old eyes.
Tantalizing after all this time, but morbid. The author and editor have woven a book that keeps plunging into new excitement and possibilities. I believe it.
