A standalone title in New York Times bestselling author Vivian Arend’s light-hearted, feel-good paranormal series. ~~~~~
Into the best-laid plans a little chaos must fall…
Wolf-about-town, Jared Gilliland, hides secrets within secrets, but his love of the female persuasion isn’t one of them. It’s woman-trouble that disrupts his quiet morning coffee near the harbor and ends with him on a cruise ship impersonating one of his pack mates. No worries. It’s just a new adventure to enjoy—until he’s confronted with someone who makes his inner wolf sit up and howl. Suddenly, Jared’s stuck in limbo; wanting to protect, needing to stay away.
Keri Smith joined her best friend for the shifter-only sailing of the Arctic Wolf Cruise. Her job is supposed to be trouble-shooter, so while she’s nearly positive the last-minute recruit sneaking aboard the tour is her mate, ix-nay on confirming that at least for the next ten days. Getting tangled up in mating lust would reduce her skills to nil. Avoidance of the sexy wolf for the duration of the cruise, followed by jumping his bones, seems the logical solution.
But when libidos are on the line, “logic” and “wolves” don’t go together.
Really? You need to be warned about the hot nookie and sarcasm? Yeah, it’s in here. Also, colourful cat shifters, lupine royalty, and wild adventures in cabins like you’ve never seen before.

Well the irrepressible Jared finally gets his own book and he's a character that has been portrayed as a very randy fun loving Wolf with an unquenchable thirst for the ladies. So as this story begins it looks like his devil may care attitude is catching up with him as two very burly brothers show up and oops they did warn him off their sister! Jared steps lively and gets away by hiding onboard a cruise ship but things get out of hand as it sets sail leaving Jared impersonating a fellow Pack member. Wolf shifter Keri is doing her best to keep her friend calm but hadn't expected her own temperature to rise when she stumbles upon her own Mate! O boy is she in trouble but Michael ( Jared) doesn't seem that interested . What is a girl to do with a fire raging inside her and then the added problem of a thief onboard . Yes it's anything but plain sailing! This is a silly story about misunderstandings and this couple do seem to get their wires crossed which adds greatly to the fun. We still get the authors signature heat with lots of sexy times but for this reader it was seeing this world expanded and Jared isn't exactly what I thought. Not only does the author add in a Royal family which was a total surprise but we are also introduced to cat shifters . Easy to read, very lighthearted and these stories are so entertaining if a little short This voluntary review is honest and I believe fair
This was such a cute story. In pretty much the same style as the previous books in this series, WOLF LINE has everything you'd want, delivered in a short story. I had no expectations about Jared and we didn't know Keri. But there's some humor, some intrigue and action, and most importantly two adorable characters who are nowhere ready (or so they thought) to meet their mate. But when they do meet, they are great and connect right away, fireworks and all!
Jared, the man whore, was running away from the family/brothers of his latest conquest and ran into a cruise ship to get away from them. He gets caught, gives a pack members name that was scheduled to work on the maintenance crew, and somehow finds himself aboard the cruise ship and sailing away.
With his bad sense of smell he doesn't realize when his mate is standing right in front of him! But she knows and she it's all she can not to jump his bones, his very sexy bones. Until they are caught in the middle of somes thefts happening on board and they will have to help solve them to clear their name.
Another great installment! Fans of the series will love it and new readers, you're missing out! These stories are great buys!!
Jared was just enjoying a beautiful view and a cup of coffee when he finds himself impersonating one of his pack mates and on board a shifter cruise ship. Keri Smith agreed to help on the cruise as a favor to her best friend, when she meets Jared she is confused for she knows she has met her mate, but Jared doesn't seem to be responding in quite the same way to this new found discovery. Jared has a few secrets, but when he realizes who Keri is he plans to bare all.
This is number five in the Granite Lake Wolves series. I thought this was a highly creative story, loved the idea of a cruise line for the setting of the story. Another wonderful read from Vivian Arend.
The wolfies are back! I have loved Vivian Arend’s Granite Lake Wolves since I read the first book a few years ago. This book, Wolf Line, is this fifth of the series and introduces us to a new set of characters within the same pack. We even have some brief encounters with the core leadership of the pack.
The main characters in this story are Jared (who poses as Mark for a while) and Keri. Keri’s best friend, Tessa is leading a cruise for the first time. Keri is brought along on the cruise to keep her best friend sane and that is quite a job! Keri is a wolf shifter and this is an all shifter cruise, but shenanigans do occur and someone has to stay on top of things. The only chink in this great plan is when Keri finds her mate is a stowaway and potential thief!
Jared has his own issues, but up until this point has been skating through life and getting laid as often as possible. He gets on the ship in order to escape a small mix up with angry big brothers and ends up working as a maintenance crew member. However, once he realizes that Keri is his mate, he’s a goner.
I love paranormal romance books because even though there may be some rough sailing and lack of communication, we know that the forever mate gene will kick in! There were many times in this story where I was mentally yelling at the characters to TALK, however, they were too busy burning up the sheets to focus. I really liked both of the characters and I’m glad they got together and seem to be content. I would have liked more back story, but I sure that’s just because I seem to devour anything that Ms. Arend writes. As I said at the beginning, the wolfies are back and that makes me happy! I can’t wait for the next installment :)
This is the first book I've read of this series although they have been on my "to read" list for quite some time. While I may have recognized some of the other characters if I had read the rest of the series first, I didn't feel I was lost or missing out on anything by having read this one first. It definitely made me want to read the rest of the series as soon as possible.
I read this in one sitting and found it to be a fun and sexy novella that has the female under the grip of the mating urge before the male realizes she's his mate - a twist I enjoyed.
The female's best friend is a hysterically funny cougar shifter obviously modeled after Tigger, Winnie the Pooh's overactive friend. I like the main characters of Keri and Jared and their reality as they see it from being "middle of the pack" wolves. Sometimes when reading about all the alphas and betas, it is easy to dismiss those in the middle of the pack and what it must be like for them. So this was refreshing.
The premise of a shifter-only cruise is a inventive one. I wish there had been room in the story to explore more of the cruise and its passengers. The litte bits we get to see are a hoot.
The only two reasons I'm not giving this a higher rating is because I really would have liked the story to be longer so it could have gone into more detail on some things and I think Keri's reaction to learning Jared isn't Mark was a little unrealistic in that there isn't much of a reaction at all. I did however like her reaction to his other revelation.
This was a good introduction to the series for me and as I said before, I'll have to move the rest in the series way up on my "to read" list.
I thought Jared was going to be some big time prince or something the way he reacted to the royals names. I'd like to read more about them being together as a couple or him having to deal more in his true eliminate so he couldn't just sit in the background. This one left more questions about him then it did answering, the same with Kerrie but you get the feeling she really isn't that interesting.
Not an intense full of dramas story, just a fun read. My only regret is that I did not read the series in order. So far, an author I can rely on for enjoyable novels.
The wolfies are back!! Vivian Arend takes us back to the Granite Lake pack and this time it is Jared’s turn. Jared is the playboy of the pack; he has only a few rules when it comes to chasing potential bed mates and is well known to hop around. When the older brothers of his last bed mate take exception to his dalliance with their baby sister, he takes refuge on the Wolf Cruise Liner as it’s docked ready for its new journey. Problem is, he gets on just as it’s about to leave.
Keri is has promised her best friend that she will help her run her first cruise. However, when a last minute addition joins the ship, she is pretty sure he is her mate. How can she possibly concentrate on her duties when her wolf is clawing at her skin, urging her to chase down her mate? Somehow, he doesn’t seem to be as bothered by her presence as she is his, but she can’t deny her nose.
Jared is entranced by Keri, but his wolf seems fascinated by her. He can't make too many overtures as she is one of the bosses and he is incognito on the boat with a fake name. Also one of his rules is no attached women and there is a big man who seems to be very territorial over the lady. His wolf doesn’t seem to care, but Jared can’t figure out why. Can he ignore his wolf, stick to his rules and remain incognito? Or will it all go belly up? Throw in some misunderstandings and you’ll end up with a disaster waiting to happen!
I love this series so much I was thrilled to be asked to review the latest addition. I had come across Jared in Erick’s book (Wolf Games....also awesome!) and thought he was a bit of playboy. That impression was reaffirmed by the rest of the pack at the start of the book, but I didn’t get that impression for long. He meets Keri relatively near the start of the tale and then he behaved like a sweetie. He didn’t want to go near her (he doesn’t “poach”) but her strange reactions whenever he is near her make him think her assumed boyfriend is abusive. After this he just wants to protect her...awwww! When he FINALLY realises they are mates, he just oozes seduction, charm and concern; basically he is an absolute sweetheart! I loved him. There is a scene where some pups are having fun after some soap gets poured on the bowling lanes which, as maintenance, it is his job to sort. He allows them to carry on, shows them how to get it more slippery and just cleans it later. He’s adorable!
Keri is pretty great as a character! She knows that Jared is her mate, doesn’t try and fight it, just tries to postpone it because she doesn’t want to let down her friend. Once the “misunderstandings” start, I love her reaction to it all, how she never thinks about trying to get out of the mating and just wants to protect him. They are such a lovely couple!
There is quite a bit of sex in this one, and it’s steamy, but it doesn’t overpower the tale and is simply there to compliment the story rather than overtake it. I love the humour, love and sex in tale. It’s a fantastic addition to a series I love. I also enjoyed seeing some of the previous tales characters at the beginning.
A fantastic novella complete with plenty of charm, sex and romance. I recommend it to all fans of shifter romance’s everywhere.
Jared finds himself in hot water as he is chased through the town by the family of his latest girl. He sees the cruise ship in port and thinks it would be the perfect place for him to hide out for a few minutes and until the coast is clear but when the ship leaves before he can make his exit he realises he's going to have to make the best of things. Thankfully one of his pack mates failed to turn up for their holiday job so Jared is able to take his place. Tessa is on the ship to act as a troubleshooter and make sure everything runs smoothly for her friend's first trip as the new cruise director. As soon as Tessa spots Jared she is pretty sure he is her mate but with a thief on board she really doesn't have time to act on her instincts and take him to bed. Can they work together to discover who is up to no good?
I love Vivian Arend's Granite Lake Wolves and I'd been looking forward to Jared's story since we first met him. As the majority of Wolf Line is set on a cruise ship we don't get to see quite as much of the rest of the pack as we're used to and I did find myself missing the pack banter a little. Even without that I thoroughly enjoyed Wolf Line though, it actually made a nice change to have such a different setting for the story and it was a good way of bringing some new characters into the series. If you've enjoyed the earlier books in this series then you're definitely going to love this one just as much.
Jared is fab, he is very laid back and easy going but has always been a bit of a player when it comes to women. He isn't in a rush to find his mate but the moment he realises that he's found her he starts to realise what he has been missing all these years. Keri was great too, she is working hard to make sure everything runs smoothly to keep the pressure off her best friend. As much as she wants to act on her attraction to Jared she is worried about letting her friend down, she doesn't just abandon her responsibilities no matter how tempted she is to do so. I'm not always a fan of insta-love but I don't mind it so much in paranormal romances and it always works well in this series. There is something I find very appealing about the mating bond between these wolves! The physical connection between Jared and Keri is intense but I really enjoyed seeing them get to know each other too. There are a couple of hilarious misunderstandings between them but I loved the fact that even when they both thought that the other was up to no good their first instincts were to protect their mate and find a way to fix the mess they thought they'd got themselves into.
If you haven't discovered the Granite Lake Wolves yet then this is a series I'd highly recommend for when you're looking for a fun and hot read full of sexy shifters. I have loved all of the stories so far and can't wait to read the next one. I do think you could pick this book up even if you haven't read the rest of the series but I'm sure once you've tried this one you'll be going back to the beginning and working your way through the rest!
WOLF LINE starts with lovable Jared running from the big brothers of a woman he slept with. He runs right on to a shifter only cruise ship before it sets out. Not wanting to give himself away, he impersonates a pack mate who didn’t show for his maintenance job (probably hung over, per Jared) and then he see Keri…and walks right by his mate, oblivious.
Keri knows instantly that Jared is her mate and can’t understand how he’s physically able to walk right by her and not say or do anything. Her wolf is going crazy needing to be around him, smell him, tumble with him. Add to this, she’s on the ship to help her best friend deal with the responsibility of running the cruise. She’s the troubleshooter, which basically comes down to her talking her friend off the edge of a cliff a time or two. Finally, in wolf form, Jared comes across and Keri and the light bulb goes off. It’s explained why Jared’s wolf knew immediately that Keri was his and human Jared didn’t, but it doesn’t matter now. Both wolf and human are on board and the mates have found each other.
This is one of the charming parts of this series for me – I love that the mating happens first and everything else just works itself out. Jared and Keri aren’t too concerned with knowing every little detail about each other, or even when they each suspect the other of being the jewel thief who’s being tracked on the ship. Nope – while they want to know the truth, they’re each more concerned with protecting the other person first, and then finding out all the details later. They were fun together, super sexy and delightful to read about. Of the two leads, Jared won me over most. There’s just something about his easy going, fun personality that made him very easy to like. He has an interesting past, an even more interesting family and I’d have loved to have learned more about his life both pre-Keri and with her.
As I mentioned above, there is a small suspense storyline that has the hero and heroine trying to figure out who is stealing jewels from the passengers. It’s a thread that goes through much of the story but it never felt front and center and I never really cared about that story. I was enjoying the play between Jared and Keri too much that all the supporting people and storylines fell to the side.
This latest installment to the Granite Lake Wolves series reads great as a standalone and I had fun getting to know Jared and Keri. These two wolves are playful and fun and it’s hard to resist Jared, who is such a sexy shifter!
Fun, sexy and exciting; Wolf Line was an engaging read that I loved! A great addition to the Granite Lake Wolves series and a recommended read to shifter romance lovers!
3.5 stars This like T.J. and Pam’s story is pretty much a pure rom.-com. with little suspense and no violence. Our male protagonist Jared has been an occasional character in the previous stories as a very active ladies man. Attempting to flee the hulking older brothers of a woman he’d been intimate with who assured him she was just interested in a no strings one-night stand, Jare jumps on the cruise ship that is in the harbor and has hired several local residents to work on it shifter cruise. Keri Smith has agreed to work on the cruise as a trouble shooter for her BFF a cat shifter whose family owns the cruise line. When she meets Jared she immediately recognizes he is her mate. But this is no time to get horizontal so she does her best to try and avoid him during the cruise. What she doesn’t understand is when she does run into Jared on board despite her best efforts he doesn’t act like a wolf tat has found his mate. Which despite her desire not to connect with him upsets her because she’s feeling the matting call and can’t figure out why he doesn’t seem to be. Once these two finally connect as mates they are all over each other. But someone is stealing from the ship’s passengers and each is convinced it’s the other who is doing the stealing and do their best to try and rectify the situation without getting their mate arrested. Jared also has a secret he’s kept from everyone including his pack mates which is outed during the story. This is pretty much a fun sexy romp with very little angst or drama.
Loved Keri and Jared. A light mystery, secret billionaire romance
Wolf shifter Keri Smith is an artist, working for her best friend cougar shifter Tessa, on her first cruise as director on her family's cruise line. She has already started a flirtation with sufer boy wolf shifter Chad, who is the Chief Supervisor. Things are a little different on shifter only cruise.
Wolf shifter, Jared Gilliand, has a love them and leave them happy philosophy. He doesn't see having a mate in his future, something he tells himself he is fine with. He loves his pack, it has only gotten better since Keil and Robyn have taken over.
Jared's latest conquest is fine with their causal relationship. Her overprotective big brothers, not so much. Jared has to make a hasty escape. Hiding out on a cruise ship impersonating his pack mate seemed like a good idea until the ship leaves port and their are some VIPs on board who are good friends with his parents and will for sure know who he is.
When Keri meets Mark\Jared she knows he is her mate. He doesn't seen to react. She doesn't know what to make of it. She has a job to do and now there is a thief on board. Her mate just may be the prime suspect.
Jared finally acknowledged Keri as his mate, she learns one of his big secrets. They both suspect each other in the thefts. Trying to protect each other. They will have to work together to find the thief. Then Jared has to reveal his other big secret.
A fun fast paced and steamy, mystery, secret billionaire romance. Nice ending to their story. Loved Jared's family. Felt a little sorry for Chad. Loved Tessa.
This was a wonderful quick listen! I love that it's playful, funny, sexy, and has some tension and misunderstandings.
Keri Smith is in a world of trouble when it comes to Jared Gilliland. I love that Jared doesn't immediately pick up on their mate connection. The reason was unexpected but an interesting twist. As for Keri, her reactions and avoidance are almost comedic.
Maggie: "Aren't you looking for more than casual sex at some point?"
Jared: "No. Never. Like not ever."
Miscommunication often drives me bonkers, but it didn't in this case. I found the way things go to be particularly entertaining. I may have laughed aloud from some of the miscues.
I listened to this as part of the 'Granite Lake Wolves' audio book collection. The narrator is Tanya Eby, who continues to do a fantastic job!
Publisher: Samhain Publish Date: June 12th How we got this book: Review copy from author
Jared’s not sure how his quiet morning coffee near the harbour ended with him on a cruise ship impersonating one of his pack mates. Well, it might have something to do with a woman, but who can blame him? The female of the species was made to love, and he’s more than willing to share his considerable skills in that area. Especially since he figures the chances of meeting his own one-and-only are slim.
Keri Smith is positive the last-minute recruit sneaking aboard the Arctic Wolf Cruise Lines tour is her mate. Ix-nay on confirming that, though, at least for the next ten days. She’s promised her best friend to be overall troubleshooter for the shifter-only cruise. Getting tangled up in mating lust would reduce her skills to nil. Avoidance of the sexy wolf for the duration of the cruise, followed by jumping his bones, seems the logical solution.
But when libidos are on the line, “logic” and “wolves” don’t go together. Throw in suspicions of wrongdoing, and these two virtual strangers will need a lot more than luck to find their way through to forever.
Warning: Really? You need to be warned about the hot nookie and sarcasm? Yeah, it’s in here. Also colourful cat shifters, lupine royalty, and wild adventures in cabins like you’ve never seen before. This blurb came from Goodreads.
MinnChica: I’ve long been a huge fangirl of Arend, and her Granite Lake books are amongst some of my favorites. This novella was no exception. I love that these shorter books are so fun and light and are so easy to get into. I loved the idea of a cruise ship for just shifters, and both Keri and Jared were such fun characters!
E: It was great getting to see the Granite Lake wolves again if only for a few minutes. I liked the setup with Jared running onto the cruise ship and only much later discovering that his temporary hiding spot turned into something much longer. I think the mental arguments that both Jared and Keri told themselves was probably my favorite part of the novella.
MinnChica: I loved that we were left a little in the dark about Jared. I liked finding out as Keri did about his family and his job within the pack and overall wolf culture. It was fun to watch that unfold at the same time as his relationship with Keri developed. I also liked the twist with Jared and his sense of smell, or lack there of. I thought it was a great and neat little twist. One of the things I love about Arend and the Granite Lake series is that she is kinda known for putting these little twists in her story. I still have a super soft spot for Robyn, the deaf Alpha from book one. She’ll always hold a special place in my heart.
E: Oh my goodness, Jared certainly had a lot underneath his playboy exterior. I really enjoyed how we learned what Jared’s “huge problem” was and I felt poor Keri’s shock when she discovered who his family really was. I also liked how they were both determined to support and protect their mate from an issue involving onboard ship security. It reminded me a little bit of the story, A Gift of the Magi, only without the bittersweet ending. I do really like how the wolves aren’t all powerful, perfect creatures but suffer from some of the same permanent ailments or disabilities that you would see in a normal population. It makes the characters and world that much more approachable in my opinion.
MinnChica: Oh definitely, I couldn’t agree with you more. I liked the little mini-suspense plot of who the cruise thief was as well. I thought it played nicely into the story, and was a good chance for conflict between Jared and Keri’s relationship, as well as overall to the story. I loved that they both tried to cover for the other, and eventually were able to prove just who was behind it all. It was a quick and well-done addition to the novella. I have to admit though, I really hope we get to see more of these all shifter cruises, I loved how fun and wild and free everyone was onboard the ship!!
E: I really only have one thing to say. I know Ms Arend finished the main arc for her Granite Lake wolves and she really doesn’t have to go back there but she did mention other shifter breeds and this cruiseline/ship so reading a (or several) novels set on cruise ships would be wonderful. Thinking back on the one I went on and stories I have heard about others… oh the fun that could be had *grin*. Anyways back to this novella, the mini-suspense was needed to ground the story and take it from all hormone based into something much more rounded.
MinnChica: All in all this was another knockout wolfie novella from Arend. There was plenty of sexual tension and rocking good times between Jared and Keri. The suspense plot and cruise ship theme were fun and engaging and kept the story moving at a quick pace that made the novella seem to fly by. This series continues to remain one of my favorite novella PNR series. I give Wolf Line a B
E: This was a fun entertaining read for me. I never knew what was going to happen next in the continuing hijinks. The cruise director and her need to continually move, Jared’s lack of initial movement regarding Keri’s attraction, Keri’s attempts to avoid Jared, not to mention the rest of the support crew and passengers kept me laughing. I enjoyed the glimpse into the less life in danger side of the shifter world. I give Wolf Line a B
Jared Gilliland is an offbeat doofus most of the time, so I wasn’t looking for his book. And this reverse “Bringing Up Baby” caper was also unexpected.
Keri Smith was a total unknown, so spending soooo much time in her hormones at the beginning was … boring. But it did get better.
Jared has no sense of enhanced smell as a human, and the whole meet cute revolved around this fact. It wasn’t until he shifted into wolf form to get back to his room, that he realized that Keri was his fated mate. 🙄 But at least he got there.
So far these r all 2 short but they r still really good. Even though men have their "stupidity X's" he ended up getting a good bonus out of it 4 his future. I don't understand about his sense of smell though. She was shocked about how he 1st treated her and lied 2 her about his name but it was good he told the truth about everything and they worked as a team 2 stop the stealing, etc. Its shocking that he is well off 2 know people at the top sorta speak. But the whole family loved it all.
What a lovely story. Although it is part of the series, it was totally different from the previous books in this series. It drama, but with a lot of laughs, and oh la la, the mating. Fun and easy read. I do suggest reading the series in order for the overall impact of the complete storyline. You’ll be a fan too!
Kari learned pretty quickly that Jared isn’t what he appears, and he is also not what she thought. As his secrets come out, they are nothing that she expected, and she falls more and more for him. Jared is a goner once he realizes Kari is his mate. It’s always great when two nice people end up together!
You never know when fate will step in. In a panic to get off a cruise ship, an incognito Jared missed his chance to exit stage right. Is there something bigger going on? Yes I enjoyed this story. I've enjoyed this entire series so far. Nice cute meet with all the werewoliness.
Jared is filling in for a friend as a janitor. He meets Keri and they can tell they are mates. These two are hot and heavy from the start. Jared has some secrets, his name and his true job. He and Keri also need to solve a theft ring. This is the fifth book in this series. I enjoy how different each mating pair has been. I can’t wait to finish this series.
Quick read that is full of secrets and misunderstandings between Jared and Keri
Jared and Keri are mates but he doesn't have the sense of smell in human for that he should and doesn't realize it. He gets stuck on a cruise ship pretending to be someone else while running from his lovers brothers. Now that they know they are mates, how long will his secrets stay secret?
This story was much improved. I liked having a little bit of mystery along with the storyline, and the mating to not be the main focus. This book was much improved from the first one.
I was sure Chad was in league with thief and was the one who had planted the evidence. I kind of figured Jared had a smelling problem when he couldn't smell his mate. I'm loving this series.
I'm going back to 4 stars on this one. Much better than the last; great characters (as always), fun mystery, and love the twist on Jared's background. I hope we get more of the Fedora's in later books, what a fun pair of "extras." Well put together novella.
3.5 stars. I wasn’t keen at the beginning - playboy hero is not my thing - but the fact that the mate bond means they won’t play up anymore does help a bit. I liked the little mystery even though it was kind of obvious.
At first it was no no no this can't be, she is the best writer, i love her books , picked my tablet back read your more pages yes yes it had me lol. You got me I will never dough you again keep the books coming
This series isn't about depth, drama, world building or character development. Just something to pass the time without exerting your brain. Good to read before going to bed because one doesn't care or is invested in the story. There is a cat shifter: Tess. That was different.
