The ghosts have something to say... A long weekend at a remote B&B was supposed to give Eliza and Robert some downtime. They soon discover that sleeping in the building unearths the spirits of people long dead, reviving a haunted mystery that has waited many decades to be solved. Eliza and Robert’s plans to relax are put on hold while they try to help the owner of the B&B salvage his business. Eliza and Robert both have the “gift,” but using it is difficult in the old building; something is wrong here, something that obscures their ability to see what’s truly happening. They discover a fiendish child who has taken diabolical secrets to the grave, intent on harming others. Their harrowing search for her — and the surprises buried with her — is filled with danger, as they discover much more evil and malevolent forces at work. A Haunting in Wisconsin is a fast-paced paranormal mystery with an enjoyable cast of characters. It is full of twists and turns, as Eliza and Robert fight to save the B&B — and themselves. It is a stand-alone novel. No prior reading is necessary to enjoy this title.

A HAUNTING IN WISCONSIN, by Michael Richan, is technically the third book to feature the "gifted" character of Eliza on her own early adventures, but is wholly contained and a stand-alone novel that simply sprouts off from the River Universe. While long-time readers of Richan's books may get references to the Dark River, or in one case, The Downwinders, no prior reading is necessary to get the most out of this novel.
In this adventure, Richan throws together a series of ghosts and unique hauntings that we haven't seen before in any River adventure, bringing the implications of how far the "River Universe" goes to new dimensions. We begin with Eliza and her now-boyfriend, Robert, going out to a friend-of-the-family's B&B for a relaxing getaway. Soon after, they realize that the "getaway" was intended to be anything BUT as the owner reveals the inexplicable problems he's been having with his new purchase.
This book goes into much more depth about Eliza's character, and shows how she's "maturing" into her River-self, and getting more confident in her abilities and observations. There are several threads that Richan leaves half-hanging for future installments, but nothing that will detract from the overall novel, itself.
Another, great episode from the River Universe, and especially on a "favorite" character of Eliza.
Filed this under horror but I actually wasn't terrified when I was reading this! I was intrigued though; this was definitely different from any other ghost story I've read. The idea of "The River" is definitely new; it's a sort of dream world that only gifted people can access, and it allows them to talk to ghosts and such. A Haunting in Wisconsin was super interesting, so I'm definitely going to check out the rest of this series!
In Eliza's younger years, when life should have less stress, allowing her to be carefree, have spontaneous vacations, and be able to put any responsibilities on the back burner for at least one weekend. But sorry, none of that for Eliza! Then - the perfect (haha) weekend getaway is dropped in her lap by her boyfriend Robert, and she cannot pack fast enough! Both Eliza and Robert are gifted, in the paranormal sense. They have the ability to access an alternate plane called "The River", this is where all things paranormal converge. To make this weekend even more special, Robert and Eliza promised each other to make this a "No River Weekend!" They don't even make it through the first night before this promise is gone out the window. Here's the funny part, they have no idea that when it does happen. Thinking they have slept through the night, they actually are drawn into a paranormal alternate timeline where ghosts of the past lead them on a crazy adventure.
The newest owner of the B & B has had some bizarre happenings causing his business to fail. Finally accepting that the problem is paranormal based, Milton (owner) reaches out for help. Robert's uncle hooks them up, but forgets to mention why it is so cheap and it is actually a working vacation. After learning the truth, they are not happy but the kids agree to help out, not knowing the horrible consequences that are to come.
This is the sequel to "The Haunting of Waverly Hall" and Michael Richan's 25th book all related to his first titled "The Bank of the River". Many characters and story lines are intertwined - but each book has it's own original storyline. And with each one I read, I can't wait to turn the page, but at the same time I don't want the book to end. This book runs the full gamut between good and evil; beginnings and endings, etc. I have to rate this as one of my top 5 favorites by this author. It would be so easy to summarize the book for you, but that would take the pleasure of reading for yourself from you. Not happening! If you are unfamiliar with the authors work, reading this book would definitely make you want to start from scratch! Make binge reading all his work a part of your summer and enjoy!!!
I really enjoyed this book! I am normally a slow reader, however when I started this book yesterday I just couldn't put it down! It was definitely a page turner and I have been in such a reading slump for the past year and a half I was excited to find a book that I couldn't put down. This book was right up my alley, paranormal and huntings are my favorite kinds of books. The story was extremely well written and I love the dream aspect of the book. This book had a different approach to the paranormal that I found refreshing. The characters were well written. My only complaint with the book is how it ended. I would've liked to have had some closure on what happened with Robert, and what happened with Eliza and Daniel.
I've always loved Eliza and I'm beyond thrilled with A Haunting In Wisconsin because it didn't follow established rules for ghosts in the series. I was on the edge of my seat!
I really liked the dream aspect of this Haunting as I've often considered dreams to be a sort of meeting place between worlds, anyway. It may foreshadow another way for people who aren't sensitive to interact with other existences... I mean... Everybody dreams, right?
Great book! Really made me think beyond the story.
A Haunting in Wisconsin EXCELLENT!! I always try to pace myself when reading any book from the River Universe but never succeed. We follow Eliza and Robert to a B&B, they think they're going to relax and attempt to have a few "River free" days, but the world has its own agenda. There are a couple of skin crawling moments, some laughter, and tears. I am sincerely enjoying the Eliza origins books, seeing how her life unfolds and the events that shaped her. I love all of the River books, the characters are so likeable, odd and quirky. All the best qualities I like in people, real or imagined.
This is one superb ghost story! Absolutely had me hanging on every word and reading so fast my eyes had a hard time keeping up. The twists and turns were fantastic! The action was nonstop and had me on the edge of my seat all the way to the end. I sincerely hope this will be a continuing series. I want to see what happens Daniel and Eliza. Since I enjoyed this book so immensely I'm going to start on the River series. Already downloaded the 1st one " Back to the River". Phenomenal series!
Awesome story. I love reading about Eliza's past. We are learning more and more, but there is still more to learn. I can't wait for the next Eliza book. I don't want to say much more as I hate to give away any of the story. But it is very interesting and gets you sucked in from the beginning to end. A definite read to go with all the River Universe stories. Thank you for another wonderful, awesome, roller coaster of a book Michael Richan. :)
Because it was so good...i was bummed when it was over!
When I first started this book I was glad I knew the characters. I wasn't as impressed by it as I was the first book... but the second half really pleasantly surprised me. It was SO good, a major change up I was not expecting. It took me by surprise and made me go from a 3 to 5 star rating! I really enjoyed it, so much so I was bummed when it ended.
Storyline was excellent, editing excellent. Then a main character that I followed on kindle unlimited totally changed with no explanation. I felt cheated. I love these books and the author should make them all kindle unlimited if half the series is kindle unlimited. This is Lisa's series and I do love all the river series.
He does it again! Honestly how does he crank them out at this pace? A great read alone that complements the other series without the eye rolling explanations.
