Much better than the first book in this series. Magnus and strykers relationship has improved somewhat and neither are eagherated over the top examples of their tropes anymore (which is good!).

The Khadorans are still left holding the idiot ball more often than id like to see in characters depicted as being even remotely intelligent (strakhov mostly) and armour is mostly useless unless its on a main character. But its a fantasy story so we can kinda expect that.

Overall its a book I enjoyed reading with no major hurdles or immersion problems. Its not the best story in the Iron Kingdoms but if you made it through the first one I dont expect this one will leave you disapointed!

Again, not bad for a RPG/Tabletop novel. Give it an its prequel a go if you like Warmachine/Hordes and Cygnar/Llael in particular.
