I definitely enjoyed this more than Movers - it’s non stop action and works much better for it. Plus the mix of past and future really makes the book weave together.
The concept continues to be excellent, and I really like that we learned more about Movers and Shadows in this book. It also felt more YA, though not sure why exactly.
3.5 stars to a fun dystopian sci fi read. Short but packing a punch.
For an author who does not get much recognition. She can put out a good story. We follow Pat Mermick and Gabby Vargas on a journey through the future present. We witness that time is simultaneous and that everything that happens in the past affect the timeline and dozens of other time paradoxes.
We watch Blue sacrifice her eternal life for the sake of Pat saving movers and shadows in the future. We witness the loss of pilots shadow and the grief he feels from it. We observe how borgs are just as good pets as we have now.
BMAC has futures where they will control. However this new/ recovered timeline created via pat promises new hopes in the recovered and new future.
I wish to see another novel as these were great however, they ended the sequel very well.
I was sent this book to review through the Goodreads Giveaway scheme. I had not read the previous book Movers so I was confused about what was happening, but it is well written and I could follow the basics of what was happening. I especially liked the character of Pat and think preteens would really enjoy it!
A page-turning and exhilarating read. McIsaac's follow-up to Movers is not to be missed. One of the most exciting voices in middle grade fiction today and definitely one to watch.
I read this book alongside my son. There is a lot happening through the book but having not read the first book in the series, Movers, we both struggled to get into it at first. When the concept of Movers and Shadows was understood the book was fantastic it's action packed with great characters.
