"She calls to me like one of the Sirens from Greek mythology, and I would gladly crash into a thousand jagged rocks for just a single touch from her."
To say I had a rough start in life would be the understatement of the century.
My uncle may have rescued me from my abusive childhood, but he couldn't save me from the neurotic and compulsive obsessions I would develop in my adulthood.
I deal with some of the worst criminals in the seedy underbelly of the world just to get what I want. What I need.
And what I need is the perfect woman. Perfect and pure in every way possible. And I'm willing to obtain that perfection...no matter the cost.
So when I make my newest purchase, I expect Adeline's fate to be like all the others before her --- taking what I want and then never seeing her again.
But she's different.
Her beauty is disarming.
And even though I promised to let her go after I took what I wanted...I slowly come to the realization that I can't.
I have to break my promise to her, because she's mine now.
And I'm keeping her.
**Keeping Her is book one of the two-book dark romance Keep Me Series and ends with a cliffhanger. It contains adult content for mature readers.**

*** 3.5 stars *** What a roller coaster of emotions! One moment I was hating the characters, the next I was sympathizing with them, the next I was in love, and before I knew it was exasperated and then back in love. Crazy stuff!
Now, I feel the most important thing I need to point out is that this is a dark romance and that there are some serious **** TRIGGER ISSUES **** that may make some readers uncomfortable so read with caution.
The story, which was narrated in first POV by various characters, gave me that feeling of intense passion and angst. I think the author made a good job by portraying Lucian with so many emotional and character flaws, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to overlook his numerous acts of possessiveness and cruelty, even after a very important truth is uncovered and he has no reason to keep acting that way. Adeline is the sweet and innocent girl that captures his attention in a way that no one thought possible. And when I say innocent, I really mean it, and for good reasons too. Odd thing was that it was hard for me to connect with and understand her character but I think that was because of everything that happened in her previous life and her current situation. I just couldn’t relate to her in any feasible way.
The story has a good pace and flow although I found the characters talking too much to themselves and at times I found their inner dialogue a bit repetitive. However one thing I liked a lot was that even though Adeline started as a victim, she never behaved as one and that made her a more realistic character.
On a side note, I was totally blindsided by what happened towards end and the cliffhanger. It’s a good thing we don’t have to wait too long how this story ends as the next installment will be out in only a couple of months.
I received this book from the author at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.
It doesn't matter if you're reading a short story, a novella or a full length book because if the story has the ability to speak to you, you know that the book is good. I've never read any book from this author but after having the chance to read this one, oh boy I want them all. Angela Snyder has a dark writting full of feelings and lots of hot stuff. But don't let the hot stuff get you worked out because the reading will be intense. Keeping Her is the first book of the Keep Me series and dayum I want all books to get out. I need to tell you that you need to read the prequel of this book because it will tell you a little about Lucien's life, try to explain what happened in his childhood that made him the way he is. He's a dark men with some big issues. He's used to have what he wants when he wants, no questions asked. Adeline is the daughter of a Mafia lord. She's a sweet girl but her dad treats her really bad. The abuse both physically and mentally is killing her slowly. She needs to get away but how? Then something happens that will change her entire life and I can't say more. I'll just going to say it was intense as hell. This book is intense, hot, scary, mysterious and beautiful at the same time. The plot is amazing and the interaction between the characters despite being tumultuous was intense and beautiful. The way the story progressed gave me the goose bumps and despite that I couldn't put it down. And dayum the hot scenes are something else. Let me just say that once I finished the book I wanted to scream so loud till my throat hurts. I was mad as hell due to the way the book ended... Why the hell did you do that Angela? When can we get the next book? Please don't tell me it will be a while because I can't handle it. I really can't. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The prequel to this book whet my appetite and made me very inquisitive to learn more about Lucien. What I didn't realise was that there would be a mafia side to this book too that adds to the darknness!
Lucien gets delivery of his number 7, Adeline and follows his normal routine, getting ready to take her virginity. Number 7 is different though, he can't quite grasp why but she stirs something in his dark heart......
I found this story really interesting, I do love a dark twisty read and Lucien is a really screwed up!, one minute I was thinking maybe his not so bad, then he would do something bad and damn id be disappointed in him, maybe not as disappointed the characther is in himself though - its a real mind f..k, as you can understand his behaviour is due to his issues, but can you forgive?
Adeline is a good woman, she has been pulled out of one bad situation into another, she questions herself and her feelings and I appreciate that she doesn't just accept her situation.
This part ends on a cliffy, I have a feeling a certain gift may come in useful so I'm not fretting too much!
This is a book/story that will mess with your head - how can you start to like the so called 'baddie'?
This is book 1 of 2 and I can wait to get my hands on book 2.
Keeping her by Angela Snyder a fab four star read. This is the first book in the Keep Me series, and what a book, I am a huge Angela Snyder fan, she writes gritty dark romances that you can sink your teeth into and come out with a mouth full of meat. Although this is book one, there is a prequel called Keeping her prequel, it doesn’t have to be read, but it does give some great background to this story. My only problem with this book was the cliff hanger, but the second book will be here soon enough, just time to read this one and build some good anticipation.
I know this book warned me of a cliffhanger but my goodness I didn't expect that. I didn't think I would enjoy this as much as I did. I don't think this book touched the "dark" aspect for me. Yes, there's mention of sex trafficking but that was it. This is my first book from this author and I have to say I really enjoyed the writing. The storyline was well thought out. I need book two now.

It takes some exceptional writing skill to manage to create a story that is simultaneously so dark and yet so sweet. There are some unpleasant events that take place in the book and there's quite a few reasons to dislike Lucien (the male protagonist) and yet Snyder has expertly twisted it so that he remains sympathetic and even likeable. I want to see him overcome his past and heal. Adeline is just the right mixture of strength and vulnerability.
In a less talented writer's hands this might have been a ho-hum or predictable story, but Snyder has made it into something exceptional. At its core it's an epic love story of two people learning to trust, to forgive, to understand and to be better for the other. And it works so well, darkly compelling reading.
Note: This book ends on a cliffhanger, although I'm not mad at it. The story is sufficiently progressed and the spot chosen was a good one. Thanks to the author for my copy of this book which I have had the pleasure to leave this review for.
Adeline is the daughter of a mob boss who has been promised to her father’s right hand man in order to carry out his legacy. She’s nothing more than his perfectly trained, unblemished porcelain doll that he takes out to show off and then locks her away. Lucien is in a prison of a different sort, an obsessive, neurotic, germaphobic, rigid, controlled, compulsive prison constructed by his mind. His compulsion drives him to acquire the perfect woman, and he’s purchased and released six so far. When he acquires the seventh, Adeline, he realizes she may just be the one. But wait. How does Adeline go from being engaged and locked away in her father’s mansion in New York to living in Lucien’s home on an unpopulated island in the Mediterranean? Well, that’s quite an amazing story, actually.
A masterfully crafted, heart-rending and dramatic story! The advance copy I read is my first book by this author and I was blown away by the sensational writing! Lucien and Adeline are both characters that sneak into your heart and burrow their way into your soul. Each is damaged or stunted to varying degrees, but they’re portrayed in such a way that you can’t help being drawn into their thoughts, their feelings, and yes, their very psyche until you’re fully vested in seeing their story through and dying to discover each intricate detail and the eventual outcome. Their story is emotional, confusing, frustrating, delicious, captivating and oh so hot. (Think Christian Gray on steroids without the S&M.) The scene with their first kiss may just go down in history as the most epic first kiss ever! I recommend the book based on that scene alone, but the whole thing is such a feast for the heart and mind. This is one that will stay with you long after the last page, so much so you’ll find it creeping into your consciousness at odd times – when you see a butterfly, pick up a book, watch a Tolkien movie or hear piano music, for instance.
Typically, I despise cliffhangers. In fact, I get really PO’ed when I get to the end of a book and it’s not the end! But if for some unforeseen reason I don’t get to read the conclusion of Lucien and Adeline’s story, it will still have been worth it to read “Keeping Her.” It’s just that good! And if you want a little more insight into Lucien, pick up the prequel to “Keeping Her,” and go ahead and click on “Saving Him” when you one click this one. You’ll want to read both!
I absolutely loved this book from Angela Snyder! Lucien's past still colors his present so to say he has very specific tastes is an understatement. With his latest purchase of virgin Adeline though he will find something different than before. Adeline has grown up under lock and key from her father and is engaged to his father's second in command when her whole life changes and she finds herself with Lucien. I loved the dynamic between Lucien and Adeline and that both end up finding more than the could imagine in the most unlikely situation. I can't wait to see what happens next for these two! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I LOVE me a good kidnapping in my romance, and this one delivers! I'm enjoying the dance between Lucien and Adeline, although I haven't quite forgiven Lucien for some of what happens in this book. I'll have to see how it goes in the next book. He took it too far at one point in this book, and hit one of my soft spots/no go elements. It was only once, but without sufficient remorse/groveling I'm unmoved to forgive him. Adeline, prior to being taken, thought her life was fine. She thought her father loved her and protected her. Once she was taken, and had time out from under her father's thumb with which to reflect on their relationship, she realized that he was actually abusive. She examined her relationship with her (arranged) fiance, and truthfully found it a bit lacking as well. This gives her conflicting thoughts about her old life vs her new one. Meanwhile Lucien is trying to come to grips with the feelings he is experiencing for the first time in his life. It made for an interesting read. We also got three different POVs throughout the book, so that was a nice treat. This one ended on a cliffhanger so I'm now off to the next book to see how this plays out.
Wow, I loved it! Lucien is quite the off character, his childhood has shaped him into who he is and nothing will change that, or so he thought. He's obsessive and almost neurotic about the way things need to be. When Adeline is brought to him he starts with her as he has with every other women, but something is different about her. Adeline's not sure exactly what's happened but she knows she's been kidnapped from her "perfect" world with her Mafia boss father and prearranged marriage to his right hand man. I can't even tell you how much this book pulled me in and made me stay. To witness them both open up and slowly change was amazing. It's dark and edgy but also so very sweet and I am absolutely sold on this book! Can't wait for Saving Him!!
The Prequel to this series is an informative introduction, giving a good grounding for the rest of the story. This is reflected in this first part of the Duet.
Lucien is an expert computer hacker tycoon. He leads a secluded life and has links to the authorities, despite some of his illicit dealings. His compulsive obsessions are extreme, quite understandable in view of his childhood background. Number seven is very significant to him!
Adeline is the youngest daughter of a powerful mafia king. She is groomed to be the perfect princess. To the outside world, she has the perfect life but, it's a completely different story behind closed doors. She is engaged by arrangement to her father's right hand man.
After an evening out, Adeline is kidnapped and wakes up in a strange environment. She is the perfection that Lucien craves! She is oblivious to the reason why she is in his presence and the lack of communication doesn't help. As this is not Lucien's first transaction of this nature, he expects her to be fully aware of the arrangement. He wants what he paid for!
He is mesmerised by her and although, she finds him attractive, she doesn't know what to make of his erratic behaviour. He can be so sensible and yet irrational when his obsessions take over. Unbeknown to her, his behaviour towards her is new to him and her presence can sometimes outweigh his compulsions. He is unsettled by these new feelings and fear that she might just be his new obsession. She is confused about her own feelings and start to question her beliefs.
As the story unfolds, it becomes apparent to Lucien that Adeline has been betrayed in the worse kind of way. This makes him furious and he is now more intent on bringing justice. Something that has been his primary goal all along.
The interactions between Lucien and Adeline can be awkward at times but, there are moments when they enjoy each other's company. He hates who he is and would do anything to be normal. It's not for the lack of trying but he has to be in control! She is quite compassionate and strong, despite her own past and her current situation. Can they find a balance where they can compromise?
This story has a nice flow and the characters are well portrayed. The cliffhanger brings a lot of questions. One of them is, why doesn't Lucien pick up on this awful predicament through the present that he gave her? I look forward to reading the next instalment to see if Lucien achieves his main objective and what the future holds for Adeline. It's an intense and baffling plot that kept me turning the pages.
Adeline, the youngest daughter of a mafia boss was kidnapped right in front of her fiance... well he is the one that had it arranged to begin with. He sold her to a man that likes to buy virgins. Lucian, the man who bought her, has serious anxiety and OCD. His childhood has him so messed up that he must have everything super clean.... even the woman he sleeps with. He tells Adeline that once he gets her virginity, like he paid for, he will let her go. After she finally gives herself to him, he finds out that it was her very own fiancé that sold her to him in the first place. So then he wont let her go. After some time, he comes around to trusting her so that she can roam around the grounds and not be locked up in one room all the time.
The story ends with a total cliffhanger. I knew that there would be another book to follow, but I didn't think it was going to end with so much suspense!!! I am totally excited for the next one to come out so that I can continue on with the story of Adeline and Lucian.
If there is anyone that Lucian can make it with, it would be Adeline! She seems to sort of understand his issues and may even be able to help him over come some of them! But now I have to wait to find out.....
Edit to add: I read this book 5 years ago and I have just listened to the audio. It was just as great as I remember. Gio pissed me off. Lucien was breaking my heart with all his issues. And Adeline had me feeling all her insecurities and loneliness! And just lie before I can not wait for the next book!!!
Story 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Spice 🔥🔥🔥 Swoon 😍😍 Angst 💔💔💔 Narration: 👏👏👏👏
Whilst this is definitely a dark read, the hero isn't aware of the truth about Adeline and so I found this easier to read than some similar books. Knowing this truth, and having read the short prequel story, I also had some empathy for Lucien. In fact I almost wanted to shake Adeline for not making the situation clear but (a) that wouldn't have made for as good a read and (b) her repressive upbringing played into her lack of communication.
I loved the story and was hooked from the start, I hate the cliffhanger that we were left on but only because it means I have to wait and see how the story continues. The plot has enough of a touch on reality to be believable and is very well thought through. I found the author's writing style very easy to read, dialogue flowed and was natural and there was enough description of emotions/feelings to draw me into the book.
As I said, Lucien has been deceived so I actually cared for him as the hero, and even though Adeline has been controlled her entire life she still showed strength and courage. I also liked that she constantly questioned whether her feelings were genuine or not, especially given the stressful situation she was in.
I'm trying to avoid spoilers, which is difficult, so instead I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the story and can't wait for the next instalment. I'm not normally a fan of cliffhanger books but this one is definitely worth it.
This is a bit of dark romance and has some kidnapping involved. I read a lot of dark books and I enjoyed this one but would say it's on the lighter side of dark. Our story starts off with a Mafia princess who has been sheltered her entire life and is her dad's youngest and last daughter to marry off to keep the family going. Giovanni is the second in cammond in the family and is engaged to marry Adeline the mafia princess. Giovanni is trying to live up to high standards and has a huge decision to make that he may regret later that involves Adeline. With his decision made we now have Lucien who is a man who has had a really bad upbringing and because of that he has some emotional issues. When Lucien and Adeline meet nothing is as it should be and thing do not go as either of them could have guessed. Things start to change and they both don't what to do with these changing emotions. I hate cliff hangers and this book gives you a good one that will have you wanting to read the next book now.
What can I say about Keeping Her besides the fact that I absolutely loved it. I have read a lot of these types of books, Man buys virgin and man takes her v card. In this book that is the main part but not all of it. That is what I truly loved about the book. Yes, Lucien buys virgins because they have never been “used” because of his past problems. And Adeline has lived under the strict thumb of her father and was supposed to be given to marriage to the same man that sold her to Lucien. However, that isn’t the main part of the book. The main part of the book is watching the two people realize that they are not so different and the transformation from beginning to end. Yes this book does end with a cliffhanger, but it is one worth the reading. You will fall in love with both characters and will wait impatiently for the next book to come out. I highly highly recommend this book even if you have felt that you’ve read too many of these genres.
the begining was interesting but the more i learned about the hero the creeper i found him. frankly i find him unstable and yeah sooo creepy. the fact that he contacted a "handler" to help him pick up pure and virginial females so that he can corrupt them is just sick. that's his fetish btw: taking their virginity. also that he has some extreme OCD tendencies so much so that whenever the heroine touches him even lightly he has an episode completely losing it and so he talks a scalding shower scrubbing his body until it bleeds literally. what turned me off completely was when they had a fight and the heroine threw a plate on the floor out of anger he took his belt and he hit her so many times hard and then he ordered her to scrub the entire room on her knees, eventhough she was clearly bruised and hurting. and after all of this he NEVER apologized to her. rather it was she who apologized. at that point i was so disgusted with him with her tstl attitude and with the whole book.
I can honestly say that I wasn't too sure what to expect having read the blurb for this one but the dark and suspenseful story Angela weaves around the two broken souls of Adeline and Lucien is quite simply a must read.
The twists and turns that befall the characters in this book as the story unfold and both Adeline and Lucien's lives are made clearer to the reader, you are silently hooked into wanting to know what happens next and why..... Angela skilfully reels her readers in and leave you begging for more as soon as she can write it.
I have to admit, I am eagerly awaiting book two, Saving Him....even though I HATE cliff-hanger type books!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reading Copy of this book.
Reading books like these give me a goddam headache. I feel so so bad for Adeline but then I also hate her a little. And Lucien? He's a monster for real. He didn't even feel guilty when he found out she wasn't here by her own will and hit her. Dude that's abuse and I see the woman apologizing!? And the man letting her when he know that it's all his fault!? I'll say this again, you suffering doesn't make that an excuse to make others suffer the same fate. And the only person I liked in this book was Adeline and that too just a teeny tiny bit. Why is it that when we say dark romance, these authors give us an asshole who's just straight abusive? Abuse is NOT romance for God's sake. I hope people realize that.
4 1/2* Lucien hasn't had any easy life neglected until he was 12 when his rich uncle discovered him & rescued him. Adeline is the daughter of the mafia boss she's been promised to Giovanni & whilst it's a slow relationship she's no idea what she's on for! He's not the hero she thinks but doesn't know what he's involved in but has he gone too far this time? I loved this story & cant wait for the next instalment. I also hope lucien cousin Jackson gets a story as his character is strong & interesting. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
Adeline is the daughter to a mobster and her fiancé was chosen for her. Adeline's fiance decides to sell her to the wolf aka Lucien for money. Adeline gets kidnapped and stuck in a room and has no clue what is going on. Lucien from first glance is hoping his lucky 7 will change him. But what happens when Adeline and Lucien find out the truth about everything? Wow I loved this book! And that ending has me wanting more! 5/5 stars it's almost like a Beauty and the Beast story with a twist! *** I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Copy of this book ***
If you like a dark romance book, you will love, love, love this one!!! It has so much content to keep you turning those pages. There is drama and intrigue, romance and suspense, happy and sad parts, and so much more. You will be completely captivated by Lucien and Adeline and their story. And hold on to your kindle/nook/book for that cliffhanger, and be glad book 2 isn't far off! I cannot wait to see how it all plays out!
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review. This is my honest opinion.
Keeping Her, is the first book in the Keep Me series. And holy hell I'm already HOOKED!! We saw a bit in the Keeping Her: Prequel. We saw the hell Lucian went through as a going child. This book is gritty and dark. And I was hooked from start to finish.
Angela gave us some fabulous character development. And I LOVED watching the scenes with Lucian and his cousin and Lucian and Adeline.
Be prepared Keeping Her leaves off on a HUGE cliff hanger!!! I'm dying to find out what happens next!! Luckily book 2 releases soon!!!.
Lucian is such an enigma that even he doesn’t understand himself, but I think if given more time and time together that Adeline could heal him. She is able to see him in a new light and when she is around, he is able to focus on her and not his nervousness. Strange way to meet your “other half”, but I really think that they “need” each other to really become who they are supposed to be. Adeline’s father is a true monster and Gio is not much better. Can’t wait to read the ending and see how their relationship develops.
I am a huge fan of Angela and her books. This one did not disappoint. Now I can't wait until the next book in the series. I love when you read a story and it takes you by surprise. So many books now have the same storyline. This book will keep you on edge anxious to see what will happen next. I love the darkness of the story and can't wait to see where the story goes next. I don't like spoiler alerts so I won't go into detail. Just know you need to read this series!
I voluntarily reviewed and ARC of this book for an honest review. Wow, some people have problems, both mental and physical. I loved this story. It hooked me. Now I have to wait for more. I usually don't go for cliffhangers, but this one got me. I enjoyed this realism of the characters. Lucien with his dirty laundry and Adeline with her own set of problems. Can they both over come? We will have to wait and see.
Wow! This book had me hooked from the very beginning and I just couldn't put it down. Lucien is hot, sexy and sinful but has issues due to his upbringing. Adeline is beautiful, sexy and Lucien's undoing, they will have you begging for more and demanding the second book because that ending has me yelling and dying to know what the hell! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a dark and intriging read!
