Poverty-stricken Yang Jinghua had an accident. The moment he woke up, he seemed to be 10 years younger. Yang Jinghua thought he had been reborn, and when he was about to step out on the path for a new beginning, Duanmu Xi, appeared before him. He not only told Yang Jinghua that he was dead, he even asked for him to join him...in a Soul Contract.

I have so many emotions. I watched the anime, and I really liked it (curse it for not getting finished!) so I immediately read the manhua. Even though there isn’t a direct plot line, the story is still really compelling. It reminds me of Fruits Basket, oddly enough, with the family house, the spirit magic, and even Xi’s characters design is similar to Yuki. In that sense, it gave me a strange sort of nostalgia.
I love urban fantasy, any and every kind of magic in our world, it just captivates me. Not only does SpiritPact have this in spades, but also another favourite trope of mine, and that’s a ghost companion. Jinghua is the perfect ghost companion ever, he is so sassy, an absolute legend.
I love their relationship. They are so overprotective of each other. Even though Xi keeps things from Jinghua, he is still transparent with him, even asking him if its okay if he doesn’t tell him certain things. I think that is incredibly refreshing, I’m sick of the secret keeping trope. Even when Jinghua finds out about Xi’s secrets, he is not mad, he only wishes he knew so he could help him. They are clearly in love in some sense of the word, I don’t know what it would mean if they entered a relationship because Jinghua is dead, but hurry up and get married already!
My only complaint about this manhua is that it can be rather repetitive sometimes. Like yes, we get it, you both want to protect the other one, and you’ll be by each other’s side forever… but why do you keep on saying it?! Again, just get married damnit!
Also, the art took getting used to. Sometimes the eyes are just too far apart and it bugs me. Everything else is fine though.
Highly recommend this manhua.

wow 我读得懂中文!i absolutely love the spiritual energy concept wish our world was like this 端木熙 gets bloodied up in just about every arc but you don’t understand how much I love fatal injury scenes followed by the absolute panic of the other characters (杨敬华 in this case) like I’m so evil for that but every coughing up blood scene gets me so riled up I just feel alive (not real life people though of course) he heals too fast and there’s not a lot of transition between each arc but the depth of the characters is pretty well established especially 寅哲 the ending isn’t really an ending sequel I think??? still waiting idk wasn’t too fond of the last arc with the whole fake prince princess deal some monologues get long though but overall very pleasing to read!
