U.S. Marshal Casey Quinn is tasked with escorting a reporter to testify before a grand jury regarding a missing environmentalist. At first, the assignment seems routine. But when it becomes dangerously clear that there's more to the story than anyone knows, Casey and two other marshals--one a man from her past--will have to do whatever it takes to survive.

I have only read one other book by Nancy Mehl, and it was Fatal Frost, the first book in this series. I thought I would give Blind Betrayal a try since I do enjoy suspense. But this book wasn't that suspenseful in my humble opinion. The story was told from at least five different perspectives, and three plus different storylines going on the at the same time to cover different areas Mehl wanted us to pay attention to. Right away, I had a feeling something was wrong with one of the characters, and Mehl showed me just what I suspected about twenty percent into the story. The suspense element was pretty predictable, and it didn't capture my attention at all. I couldn't wait for the story to be over with, so I read really quick to get to the end. The bad guy was no surprise to me either. Mehl doesn't hide that information well either.
In conclusion, Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl is not a high-action suspense novel. At every corner, Mehl was spilling her secrets before she even attempted to make it to the end. Way too many characters to mingle with. I believe if you enjoy romantic suspense, try Irene Hannon, Colleen Coble, Brandilyn Collins. This one won't go on my keeper shelf.
I received a complimentary copy of Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl from Bethany House Publishers, but the opinions stated are all my own.
This is an edge of the seat story with intense action and suspense. Deputy US Marshals Casey Sloane and Doug Howard are assigned to take a witness, reporter Valerie Bennett, from their home office in St. Louis to Washington, DC to testify before the FBI. Deputy US Marshal EJ Queen from the DC office travels to St. Louis to help with the transport but before the group can leave the hotel where they are keeping the witness for the airport, their headquarters is bombed. Their boss is injured but able to tell them to drive because he thinks that the bombing was connected to the witness and that they may be compromised. They are to meet up with an FBI team in Ohio to transfer the witness. They have a wild ride as they reach the location and find out that the FBI team is a fake sent by the terrorist that Valerie is to testify against. They are overtaken by the men and all but two dead men are on the way. They are holding Valerie's sister in custody to get her to change her testimony so they want her to make it to DC. His henchmen appear to be one step ahead as the marshals struggle to escape. Blind Betrayal is a great suspense that keeps the pages turning to the end.
Nancy Mehl fans will be thrilled to come across quite a few familiar faces in this gripping cat-and-mouse tale. It can totally be read as a standalone, but I got a kick out of recognizing multiple secondary characters in Blind Betrayal. (This is the third and final book in the Defenders of Justice series.)
Be prepared for lots of heart-stopping, gasp-out-loud moments. This fast-paced suspense doesn't let up until the very end. Just when you think the author is gifting you with a stop-and-take-a-breather-moment...well, she isn't, so keep your guard up. :-) And in the midst of all that tension and danger, two U.S. Marshals reconnect and try to figure out the hiccups in their past.
Casey's tough -- and so intent on proving that she can hold her own in this male dominated field that sometimes she can come across as defensive and testy. Especially when it comes to E.J.trying to be gallant which makes for some exciting sizzle. They used to be partners, as close as can be, and then life -- personal and professional -- imploded. Love these emotionally difficult reunion stories. Not that there's a lot of down time to examine something as 'mundane' as a relationship, but fitting snippets of grousing and remorse and funny memories as bullets are flying is an interesting way to play catch-up!
Clear your calendar for this one 'cause it's a frantic pager-turner of a read!
Casey Sloane is a U.S. Marshal deputy working out of St. Louis, Missouri. She transferred from Washington, D.C. for personal reasons. Suddenly, Casey is assigned with another deputy, Doug, to ensure a Grand Jury Witness gets to a hearing in Washington, D.C. safely.
Casey and Doug meet their witness, but, in the transfer learn of their home office being bombed. Communications are garbled and it becomes clear that this is no ordinary witness. It appears there are ties to a funder of ISIS and life becomes more fragile.
As Casey and Doug meet their Washington counterpart, E.J. Queen the crime boss becomes even more volatile. It doesn't help that Casey knows E.J. well either.
This novel is so well-crafted that I found myself reading faster and faster. The chapters went flying past me as the suspense grew. Would any of the parties survive? Including the main assassin and his Father.
Well, you will have to read this novel for yourselves as this tale of action packed murder and suspense will have you enthralled. Characters are vivid and the dialog moves the story quickly. I was completely satisfied with the ending.
The Author, Ms. Mehl was kind enough to 'Gift' me with my copy. She did not ask for a review or influence my opinion whatever. I do 'Thank' her for an excellent read.
Blind Betrayal is the third book in the Defenders of Justice Series by Nancy Mehl. Casey Sloan has been in the St. Louis U.S. Marshals Office for a couple of years. Now she is assigned the duty of escorting a reporter to Washington. He is to testify about an environmentalist who vanished. In addition to this, Casey discovers that the Marshal's Office has been under attack and now placed on high alert. Now Casey, the reporter and two other marshals are running while tryingt o keep the reporter safe. This is the first of the series I have read and it surprised me how quickly I became engrossed in the writing. There is plenty of suspense to keep you reading and the characters were easy to catch up with. Each character has a distinct personality and background which helped make me invested in them. I will need to pick up the first book in the series so that I can find out what has happened up to now. Excellent book. I was given this book by Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest review. This book may be found at Amazon HERE! Christian Book Distributors HERE or Barnes and Noble HERE
As usual, Nancy Mehl has written a story that has this reader on edge as the plot unravels layer by layer exposing a convoluted set of events that takes the Marshals on a treacherous journey with a journalist who was researching an expose that has brought her to the point of extreme peril.
The cast of characters are real, believable, totally fleshed out, and have this reader rooting for one or the other. I really liked Casey (the lady lead) and E.J. (the male lead). They have a history that blends good and bad memories yet it looks like the vibes between them foretell a definite romantc future for the two of them.
Blind Betrayal has a full quoto of mean guys and good ones. The story seems to explode with the unthinkable becoming a very present reality.
This is another really good suspense story in the Defenders of Justice series by Nancy Mehl. I can hardly wait to see what Nancy Mehl is working on next.
I was provided a complimentary copy to facilitate this review. Opinions are solely my own and are freely given.
Casey Sloane is assigned to transport a reporter to Washington, D.C., to testify in a trial about an environmentalist who disappeared. She’s accompanied by a man she once cared for and it’s difficult at times to keep her mind on the job. However, when a bomb explodes at their St. Louis, Missouri, office, and she hears that her boss is nearly killed, Casey realizes there’s more to this assignment than just a brief trip to meet up with F.B.I. agents and hand off a witness. She must put her feelings aside and use all of her strength to survive and protect their witness. They’re attacked in a safe location and one of their own shot. They soon realize they’re dealing with a terrorist, but what does he want, and is he acting alone? They must go immediately, leaving behind their wounded associate. They aren’t certain why their plan isn’t working, if their boss in St. Louis survived, and if he didn’t, who’s giving them orders? Casey’s wounded as they’re led down the perilous path not knowing who to trust. This suspenseful book is a page turner with one surprise after another. There’s a sweet romance tucked inside and a peek at the respect and concern law enforcement officers have for each other. All the while the story sheds light on cold, inhumane terrorists and the lengths to which devoted law officers go to keep us safe. I highly recommend this book for all who enjoy suspense, romance, and law enforcement stories.
3.5 stars " . . . .Casey was concerned that once he walked out the door, she might never see him again. And she wasn't ready to let that happen. Not yet."
U. S. Marshal Casey Sloane really doesn't have time to analyze her opinion about teaming with Deputy U. S. Marshal E. J. Queen again; their friendship having been severed when a relationship with a mutual friend went terribly wrong. Now they are tasked with delivering a witness to Washington, D. C. in order to testify before a grand jury; reporter Valerie Bennett's testimony regarding a senator's supposed ties to terrorism being crucial to the government's case.
From the very beginning, everything goes wrong about Valerie's transfer into the hands of the F. B. I. The Marshal's office in St. Louis is bombed leaving their supervisor incoherent and near death, transportation plans have to be hastily re-calibrated and their destination now remains unknown. E. J. and Casey are virtually flying blind into the face of an enemy whose tentacles appear to be everywhere. Honesty and apology have their place, but it's prayer that comes to the rescue.
Hang on to the edge of your couch, as you read this fast-paced plunge into the abyss of deep, dark abominations.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. The opinions stated are entirely my own.
I enjoyed getting to see the old Marshals crowd from previous books in the series. Given that the scope of the danger in this story was far more than Casey and EJ could have handled by themselves, I liked how the author kept it realistic and had the Marshals, FBI, and local Law Enforcement all working together against the threat. I also enjoyed that the author threw in a few red herrings that actually offered a few moments of relief from the intense action (just the calm before the storm, however . . .). It's an intense, complex, fast-paced suspense.
The witness herself proved more complex than I expected, and I appreciated that protecting her was always the first thing on the marshals' minds, even though they were battling personal relationship issues, not to mention not knowing the fate of their friends and coworkers at the bombed Marshals Office. She seemed very real in her reactions and feelings.
Thank you Bethany house and NetGalley for the complimentary e-book. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions are my own.
Blind Betrayal is a third book of "Defenders of Justice" series. Character's history is described very thoroughly in this book, therefore if you didn't read the previous two books - there is no problem with getting familiar with the characters.
The story begins with three US marshals that escort a reporter to DC to testify in front of the grand jury. Because of the breach in the system, that has a piece of important information released, Casey, Doug and E.J. are now on their own with a mission to deliver their witness into a safe FBI protection.
The book has a good storyline, and that's the only good part of the book. The novel had a fine beginning, the first chapter was amazing. Shortly afterward the plot became too predictable. Twists were revealed before it was applied in a story.
I received a complimentary copy of Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl from Bethany House Publishers.
3.5 stars, rounded up because I liked this one the best of the trilogy. There was quite a lot of action, and I liked seeing the characters from the earlier books make an appearance. The story was interesting and compelling. This book is different from the prior two books in the series in that you find out who the culprit is early on, and since my criticism of the earlier two books was that the villain was too obvious, I didn’t mind that at all. I’m glad I finally finished this trilogy. Overall I enjoyed it.
Each book in this series is completely unique, yet I love the overlapping characters. They read like a good crime procedural show. While not my favorite of the three, I do like how this one ended and tied things up.
Nancy Mehl does not disappoint me with her Romantic Suspense books. She is a master storyteller and keeps the action going from page one of this last book of the series. I like that she is not heavy on the romance in her books but concentrates mainly on the plot with the romantic part being pretty much a sub-plot. I recommend this whole series to Romantic Suspense fiction lovers.
This was an enjoyable book from start to finish! I loved Casey: her spunk and her heart. She was not the perfect person. She had some deep seated issues that added a realness to her story. Likewise, I liked E.J. and the chemistry between them was excellent.
I enjoed this story. It paced very well and didn’t drag. I also noticed that this book didn’t follow the pattern of the first two in the series, which I appriecated. This was all in all an excellent story with strong characters.
Definitely look forward to more books by this author.
If. you have never ready Nancy Mehl but enjoy Terri Blackstock, Brandilyn Collins, or Christy Barritt you’ll enjoy Nancy Mehl.

Blind Betrayal ( Defenders Of Justice - Book #3 ) By: Nancy Mehl Blind Betrayal is book three in Defenders of Justice series. Wow, what a story. I was captured right at the start and was hooked . Mehl did not disappoint. Blind Betrayal is a story filled with action, suspense, bombs, kidnapping, murder, and witness program. This story starts off with action and you cannot read fast enough to see what is going to happen next. If you love a good suspense story then you will love Blind Betrayal that has you on the edge of your seat and holding on for the ride of your life. I was given a complimentary copy from the author and Bethany House Publishers , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
I did not want to put this book down! Trouble begins on the first page, and I needed to know Casey and her team could get their witness to safety. Leaving them in danger was just a bad idea... :)
The characters drew me in as well. As US Marshals, they're tough and yet they have vulnerabilities, too. Seeing familiar characters from previous books in the series was fun, although this story is complete on its own.
If you're ready for a well-written page-turner, Blind Betrayal will fit the bill nicely. Just be sure you have some time to read without having to set it down!

Blind Betrayal is book three in the Defenders of Justice series by Nancy Mehl. If I chose one word to describe Blind Betrayal it would be Intense. Nancy has done an outstanding job with this story. These characters and story lines were so well written that you didn’t know who was going to do what and when. I hated to see the story come to an end.
U.S Marshall Casey Sloane and her partner Doug have been assigned to escort Valerie Bennett to Washington D.C because she needs to testify before the Grand Jury. Because of the sensitive nature of their case and the importance of Valerie's testimony - Casey and Doug are joined by EJ Queen, a Marshall from Washington D.C and Casey's old partner. As they wait in a hotel in St. Louis for their flight, they hear an explosion and discover that their headquarters were bombed in an attempt to silence their witness. They hear from their Chief, but the connection is bad and he was injured in the blast - all they know is that there is a change of plans and they are to get Valerie to a safe house so that the FBI can retrieve her and take her the rest of the way to Washington D.C. Casey is having a hard time being around EJ because of all the mixed emotions that keep threatening to come to the surface. She wanted to forget her time in Washington and it seems that EJ keeps trying to bring it up. She is determined to work with him to keep their witness safe because that is their job but that does not mean that she has to make small talk in the process. EJ asked for this assignment because he wanted to work with Casey again, so he is surprised by Casey's reaction to his presence on her team. It should be him who is annoyed and angry with her because she walked out on their team and his best friend. So even though she seems to be avoiding him, EJ is determined to break through this wall that Casey seems to have set up. As they arrive at the safe house they find out that it may not as safe as their Chief thought it was because it appears as if the witness has been sending text updates to the people she is testifying against. As danger closes in, will EJ, Casey and Doug be able to survive this assignment or will their witnesses betrayal prove fatal for them all?
So Blind Betrayal is the third book in the Defenders of Justice series and it was AMAZING! Even though this book is part of a series, it could definitely be read as a standalone. I love that she mentions previous characters such as Mercy and her husband Mark from the first book in the series (Fatal Frost, another fantastic book). So a word of warning, the plot has a lot of unexpected twists that really make the book hard to put down so it could lead to some loss of sleep☺. Overall, I love the characters and the action and I am really hoping for another book in the series! I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars *****
Nancy Mehl’s newest installment to the Defenders of Justice series gives readers their favorite characters in the most heart stopping adventure yet.
In what starts out as a routine day escorting a reporter to Washington to testify before a grand jury quickly turns into the most dangerous assignment U. S. Marshal Casey Sloane has had yet. The witness was reporting on an up and coming environmentalist with potential ties to terrorism. As she and her partner are getting ready to transport their witness, their office is bombed leaving them unsure of who they can trust and where to go to stay safe. They flee with their witness and together, with an old flame from her past Casey, is tasked with doing all she can to keep everyone alive and safe.
As the final book in the Defenders of Justice series, Nancy Mehl has crafted a story that wraps up the series successfully and with as much, if not more, tension than all of the previous books. Each book is unique in its own way and can be read together or individually with equal enjoyment. I enjoyed the way this story was crafted showing how technology can be harmful and helpful at times. With the use of social media, Casey and her team found their way out of a tough spot that otherwise might not have given the team the help they needed. I liked Casey. She was tough but not over the top or even stubborn. Being a leading lady and in law enforcement, authors have to show these characters are able to keep up with their male counterparts and are not to be messed with but are still human and not exempt from harm or other problems. It would have been easy for Mehl to put the romance element at the forefront, but she kept the suspense tight throughout keeping me glued to the page until the very end. I enjoyed the secondary characters more than I thought I would at times, they helped carry the story along when it could have started to drag. Overall I enjoyed this book and recommend to fans of Mehl and those that enjoy romantic suspense.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.
Nancy Mehl sure knows how to write a good suspense book! She's on my list of favorite authors for this genre. See, I used to not like this sort of stuff until some of my authors started writing this way and I thought I'd give it a try. I was hooked! I finished this book in one afternoon! And I thought about the characters long after the book was finished. Too bad we don't know if their lives stayed peaceful after all the action that took place in this book. I like to think it does. I do think about that every now and then and this book was no exception. Just when you've thought you guessed who the culprit was it wasn't!! It wasn't who I was expecting and this is what made it exciting! I loved all the characters even though I couldn't really relate to them. But then, sometimes you don't have to and you can still enjoy the book anyway. I was especially rooting for Valerie whom I felt was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was sitting on the edge holding my breath waiting to see what would happen to her. Sometimes we can't help being in certain places when things go a wry. I can't imagine being in a situation like that and by the Grace of God I hope and pray I never am. It's hard knowing in the real world whom to trust and whom not to. The only person I trust is Jesus. I'd trust Him with my life!! I would depend on Casey and E.J. anytime! They made such a great team of working together! I immediately felt the spark fly so to speak! This book is not heavy on the romance and that's what I really liked about it. This is why I love Nancy Mehl! She keeps her readers entertained and can keep your attention at the same time! I felt like I was watching NCIS Los Angeles or FBI, S.W.A.T. For Suspense lovers this is your book to go! It was action packed from the beginning until the end! It was really good! I love how the beginning opens with a bang! I highly recommend this book. It was an amazing read!! My thanks to Netgalley for a complimentary copy of this book. NO compensations were received and all opinions are my own.
The plot draws you in immediately. When an environmentalist discovers collusion between a US Senator and a foreigner suspected of terrorism, he turns to a reporter to expose the corruption. The main emphasis of the story is focused on how US Marshals, Casey and E.J., will transport the reporter to testify before a grand jury. The plot thickens when life-threatening obstacles arise to prevent the reporter’s DC appearance. FBI imposters blow their cover and trigger a violent showdown. Casey and E.J. must now safeguard the reporter and themselves. One error in judgement or misplaced trust will cost them everything. They draw on their long careers in law enforcement to persevere through dire circumstances. This is Book 3 in the Defenders of Justice series. The author writes with a brisk pace. She avoids side trips to restate events from the previous novels. The title captures your curiosity and keeps you guessing until the end. You’re always wondering who will ultimately pull off a blind betrayal. The villains are sufficiently bad. Their web of deceit, illegal wrong-doings, and threatening behaviors keep the suspense taut. The good guys will not disappoint. One undercover agent proves trustworthy and is an essential ally. Previously, Casey and E.J. had been partners in D.C. She left D.C. abruptly and moved to St. Louis, where the story reunites them. In D.C. Casey was in a relationship with E.J.’s best friend Jared. When Casey describes her relationship with Jared it’s clear why she leaves, but in my opinion one of her conclusions about this relationship is the only blemish in this story. The surprise ending is full of tension. All subplots are resolved, and you can identify the characters who betray their co-conspirators for personal gain. I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review.
Good book three in the series. I liked how it kept all the characters from the first book clear through to the third. Kate and Tony are engaged. Michael and Merce are pregnant. Chief Batterson is almost killed by one of the terrorists. Casey and EJ are asked to escort Valerie to DC to testify in a terrorist scheme so of course every time they turn around, the terrorists have caught up to them and hold them at gunpoint. Mattan is a psycho who is strung out on drugs but Sam is an undercover agent trying to keep the three of them alive. Tony and Martin do not find the warehouse until after EJ and Valerie are headed to DC with Mattan. Valerie has a suicide vest on which can be triggered by the cellphone Mattan has. Mattan sends them on to meet at the front of the FBI building and there they are told to take off Valerie's vest. EJ panics because he doesn't realize that the cellphone towers have been jammed so Mattan couldn't get off the signal. Mattan is caught and agrees to testify against Ail Al-Saud. They meet at the restaurant with Ben (Mattan) wearing a wire to try and get his father to expose himself as the terrorist. But Ben is sent to ask the waitress to order grilled mushrooms for both of them and Ali Al-Saud slips something in his drink. Before the police can nab them, Ben takes a drink. Ali-Saud says he doesn't care if he goes to prison because he is dying anyways. But Ben knows that before they can get him to the hospital he will be dead also from the poison his father put in his drink. Lots of drama. Casey and EJ reignite their love feelings they had for each other when they were both serving in DC. All's well that ends well as they say :) Good series.
Blind Betrayal Defenders of Justice #3 By Nancy Mehl
It seemed like a routine mission escort a witness from St. Louis to Washington, D.C. But all too soon the assignment goes south. A threat to their office that proves to be much more than a threat soon finds Deputy Marshalls Casey Sloane, Doug Howard, and E.J. Queen hitting the road to protect their witness. What Valerie Bennett knows has someone worried and it seems they will stop at nothing to take her out.
But with no backup and little intel to work on the US Deputy Marshalls are having to rely on instinct and training to stay one step ahead of whoever is after them. And worse there are fears that a mole has somehow penetrated the St. Louis office again.
Feeling that something is off Casey is on high alert and her past associations in the D.C. office have her at odds with E.J. Can Casey compartmentalize her personal and professional selves before she puts everyone in even greater danger?
With time against them and unknown people searching for them, these Marshalls are in a race that they may not all survive.
This is the third book in the Defenders of Justice series and it is no letdown in action and suspense. There are a few unexpected turns that will have the reader rethinking everything that they have learned thus far. If you haven't read the two previous books that is okay as each book is complete in itself. The characters carry over from previous books but different ones are the focus of each book.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Casey Sloane has worked at the St. Louis marshals office for two years and is given a routine assignment to help transport a reporter to D.C. to testify before a grand jury. Valerie, the reporter, was writing a story about an up-and-coming environmentalist who suddenly disappeared and, she later discovered, whose backers purportedly have ties to a terrorist.
When the seemingly ordinary assignment suddenly takes a shocking turn, Casey is forced to put aside her own feelings about the unexpected reappearance of a man from her past as she and two other marshals take Valerie on the run. And as it becomes dangerously clear Valerie's testimony has even bigger implications than they knew, they'll do whatever it takes to make it out alive.
Casey will do anything to protect her witness. Even protect them with her life. That is precisely what she is called to do on this case. What she doesn't count on is E.J. showing up to assist. She met E. J. while working in the D. C. office. She also doesn't count on terrorists coming after her and doing everything they can to stop her and E. J. from getting the witness to testify.
I was up quite late several nights reading this book. I couldn't seem to put it down.
I recommend this book to all who like high suspense.
I was given this book by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in anyway.
This suspense novel by Mehl will not disappoint her fans. U.S. Marshal Casey Quinn and her partner Doug are tasked with getting a high-risk witness to D.C to testify before a grand jury about a crime boss whose crimes include terrorism. While they are just doing their protection detail job, the task becomes more dangerous and more difficult because their home office is bombed and they are out of touch with their boss Batterson who was supposed to set up a meeting with FBI agents. One agent, E.J. Queen, does join their detail, and he has previous interactions with Casey, so there is romantic tension there, too. The scenes shift back and forth between Casey trying to get Valerie safely to testify and the hospital where Battersron’s life is hanging by a thread. The scenes move quickly and the action is non-stop. From the beginning, Mehl hooks the reader in the scenario of life or death, both Batterson’s and Valerie’s. For that reason, it was a book that enthralls the reader and entices you to keep reading to the end.

This was a very suspenseful and exciting book with some well written romance and faith woven in. I was hooked from the first page and couldn’t stop reading it. I finished this book in two sittings, and that’s only because it was Mother’s Day and I spent some time with my mom that evening. I could have easily sat and read this entire book from start to finish in one day, it was just so difficult to put down.
I love how the Marshalls from the previous books are prevalent in this book as well. It’s nice to see how they are doing and what their lives are like now. I really enjoy these characters and how they put their witness above all else. The way they respect and care about each other is inspiring as well. I really hope there are more books in this series. I am not ready for them to be over!
The Christian theme was evident but like the romance, it was relatable and not overpowering. These were mere backdrops to the adventure and adrenaline pumping action.
The writing was so vivid it took me some time after reading this book to disassociate myself from this story. I felt like I was right there in the action and the twists and turns keep you turning page after page.
Recommendation: This book, like the previous books in this series, was amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian Suspense.

Blind Betrayal (Defenders of Justice 3) By Nancy Mehl
Casey Sloane and Doug Howard both Deputy US Marshalls are escorting local newspaper reporter, Valerie Bennett from St. Louise to Washington D.C. to testify before a grand jury. She has supposedly stumbled across information that a sitting US senator had ties to terrorism (ISIS). Just as they were getting ready to leave for the trip things quickly became unstable when there was an explosion in their office. Life had suddenly become very complicated.
Suddenly Casey, along with E. J. Queen, a man from her past is forced on the run with Valarie to keep her safe and to hopefully save all their lives.
I was hooked from the first page and the suspense-filled twists and turns kept me captivated to the last page. The characters’ portrayal was so real you felt like you were right there with them every step of the way. A little bit of romance is mixed in with suspense and intrigue to keep things interesting. It does have light Christian overtones, but is in no way considered “preachy” and it doesn’t detract from the storyline and plot of the book.
I highly recommend this book.

Every time I read a book from this author I am always amazed at how she can weave a story that captures your full attention. The action is non stop and the characters are exceptional. I loved how the author made it hard to determine who was the good guys and who wasn't. Just when I thought a character was trust worthy they fool me. There is definitely something strange going on when the FBI makes me question their integrity. It becomes clear that not everyone is on the same page.
Casey is a fierce character who is determined to protect a witness that has been slated to testify. Her partner E.J. is well trained and has a keen sense of reading people. The action starts when a bomb explodes in the marshals office. The goal is to get the witness to a safe place, but obstacles get in the way. I was starting to mistrust the witness Valerie when she seems to help the bad guys find her. It's a race against the clock in this explosive and powerful cat and mouse game. Can Casey and E.J. keep Valerie alive to testify? Who is really behind all the danger that puts Casey and E.J. in danger? I love the complexity of the story and how the author puts the pieces together in an intense way that keeps you guessing till the end. The ending is masterfully written with surprises that lead to a closure that will make you cheer.
I received a copy of this book from the author and Bethany House Publishers. The review is my own opinion.
