I received an ARC of this book so here is my review.
This book wasn't bad (so I'll give it 2 stars) but rather your typical bland (IR) billionaire boyfriend romance that mildly annoyed me more than anything else, mostly due to the overuse of the boring tropes of this subgenre. You got the instant attraction/lust/love : check. The light skinned black woman with "unique" features that were repeatedly focused on by the writing so that if we missed it in the very first paragraph we were sure to not missed it the numerous other times we get reminded of those yes and "honey" browned caramel skin : check. The billionaire boyfriend who lavishes his lust/love interest with diamonds and shit, pays for her car and everything, save her job just cause he can and the lust/love interest who feebly opposes his grand gestures but then just let him : check. outrageously expensive Unnecessary fake triangle/jealousy/mean ex-lovers from hell plot : check. The slightly brutish jealous, possessive and manipulating billionaire love interest that quickly got on my nerves with the way he kept leering at the heroine and coming way too strong at her (with the requisite instantaneous rock solid "hard on" ugh!), and then got all jealous of her long time friend after one date, and then manipulated her friend and caused a rift between them, etc. He wasn't the worst
of this kind, I kind of tolerated him, but certainly not the best and I had a hard time finding him attractive. As for the heroine, Bailey, she had some potential but it all fizzled out the moment she saw him (and got instantly wet...), lost all of her professional distance, let him almost roll all over him, and the moment she got some back bone back she decided to get rid of it immediately by apologizing to him after he manipulated her weak ass.... So, yeah, she wasn't the worst kind but not the best either. Finally, if I could believe the lust, didn't buy the "luvvvv" that happened not even after knowing each other for all of 5 minutes. I also felt more for Kevin, who I find way more attractive, physically and also with the way he acted, than the billionaire lovers that I was supposed to be amazed by. So yeah, not the worst but not the most interesting.

New book boyfriend alert! Lucas is sexy, hot, alpha who knows what he wants and how to get it. Bailey, well...a bit naive, sweet and kind with a bit of steel in her backbone and certainly no ones doormat. Enjoyed the journey of coming together, breaking up, and making up. Well done, hot spicy love story. Great setup for the next book in the series which I plan to purchase. New author for me that I plan to add to my list.

Some women have a hard time trusting

Bailey Walters was one such woman having been cheated on by two too many men. That is why she was very hesitant about giving billionaire business mogul Lucas Marx any notions of dating, especially when she found out that her boss Sandra Callahan was his ex. She needed her job to pay her bills and could not afford to lose her job. Even though she was very attracted to Lucas and he to her, she fought it as long as she could, even though she had a decoration job to do at his home. Lucas, being the wheeler dealer venture capitalist, made a deal with Bailey's roommate and best friend Sienna Keller, to encourage Bailey to go out with him. The deal blew up on everyone when their so called friend, Faith Sullivan the spoiled, jealous former roommate let the cat out of the bag.

Lucas was none too happy with Bailey's reaction and Bailey's ex Kevin's insinuating himself back into Bailey's life ended things. They were both miserable without each other. Despite Bailey's father throwing a hissy fit when he found out about Lucas, they were determined to make a go of their relationship again. They did not want to succumb to those two words "if only" and be lost to their HEA.

The author wrote a touching love story about two stubborn people in love. One was a rich businessman who was used to getting what he wanted and was determined to get the girl he wanted and prove to her that he was not what the public opinion of the internet said he was, all while trying to keep a scheming woman and her family at bay. The other one was a young woman who had very limited sexual experience with men because she had her heart broken too many times and protected her heart by putting up a wall. She was not going to be Lucas' booty call and be dumped. She was her own independent person and was not going to be bought by Lucas' money. Nor was she going to succumb to the scheming of her father. She was no longer his baby girl anymore.

This story was very interesting and kept me reading wanting to find out what else this couple was going to do as well as what those roommates of Bailey's and exes were getting into next. I can see another story written about Sienna and Lucas's best friend and partner Gavin Crane next. That should be interesting too.Bailey Walters was one such woman having been cheated on by two too many men. Devil's Deal is a mostly well written, steamy love story. Bailey is a waitress who also works as a designer at an interior design firm. She's working 2 jobs to pay off her debt, and hoping someday her dream job of head designer will come true, when she meets Lucas, a hot billionaire playboy, at her waitressing job. He hits on her and is really surprised that his usual lines don't work on her.

She's a little sensitive because she's been hurt by the insipid, cheating exes in her past, not to mention that she feels as if Lucas is only interested in trying to figure out her ethnic makeup. I can relate to that; I've been asked whether I'm everything from Mexican to Hawaiian to Native American, when in fact, I'm Filipina. It makes for a less than positive introduction to someone who's hoping to get to know you, and Bailey definitely didn't like it, either. But, he gets a chance later to make up for his misstep earlier, when he runs into Bailey at her design job, and he's even more delighted when Bailey is assigned to work on his home.

As their relationship takes a turn into sexual, even though Bailey had been adamant that she'd never sleep with him, it was nice to see Lucas be interested even after the first time they had sex. But, it was also at this point that I started to have some misgivings about this story. Some of the wording in the sex scenes was a bit cheesy, (ie: penis rather than cock, vagina rather than pussy, and even labia. Ugh, such clinical terms have no place in steamy scenes!) and I was a bit disappointed that Bailey gave in so quickly to Lucas when she had been so strong before. The story languishes a bit, and there's some drama regarding exes of both Bailey and Lucas, and there's the inevitable point where they breakup because of miscommunication. It was all resolved rather quickly, though, with not too much angst.

I wavered between 3 and 4 stars, but because I like both Bailey and Lucas, I decided on 4 stars. I like their connection and the fact that this is an interracial romance, but that the race issue isn't the central point of interest. I do have to say that the epilogue was a surprise, and kind of a terrible way to end Lucas and Bailey's story, but, it does set up Sienna (Bailey's best friend) and Gavin's (Lucas' best friend) story, which I'm looking forward to. Here's hoping Michele will leave out the cheesy language in the sex scenes and keep Gavin and Sienna the interesting characters they are here in Devil's Deal.

Devil's Deal Almost Ruin Relationships.

This is one of the better interracial romances that I've read. However the race issue isn't the central point of interest. How different characters reacted to those of different races was handled almost to well to be realistic. People of different races aren't as accepted as they seemed to be in this book, especially by both families. Lucas and Bailey, the main characters, were well developed. He appeared to be arrogant but he treated his employees well and really cared for their families. You could tell they loved working for him even though he was a hard worker and expected as much from them.

When Lucas first saw Bailey he thought of warm honey. Her friends called him Mr. Hotness and she quietly agreed with them. There was a strong, instant attraction between them. He was determined to have her and she was just as determined that he wouldn't. She thought he was very handsome but thought he was a cheater like a couple of her exes. Naturally they entered into a sexual relationship. It was sensual and erotic, however the description in some parts were unnecessarily pornographic.

Their friends and other characters were interesting, amusing and realistic, especially Sienna and Gavin who were interested in each other - Gavin more than Dianna or so she thought. A couple of them were the type you loved to hate - can you say Sandra and Faith. Still they contributed to overall story, which was well written with only a few errors. The plot was well developed with a couple of subplots that left you wanting more. The characters back stories were enough that you understood what motivated them.

Because both Lucas and Bailey were equally stubborn, they caused misunderstandings to derail and almost ruin their relationship. Determined to have her by any means, Lucas caused confusion by making a deal with Sienna, Bailey's best friend. Bailey refused to listen to either's explanation breaking everyone's heart. As is usual, there's an unplanned pregnancy. The favorable reaction of their families surprised both of them, especially Bailey.

Things worked out for Lucas and Sienna. But.....What happened to Sienna because of Faith and what is Gavin's reaction. No, not a cliffhanger - more a teaser to make you want to read the next book in the series. I can't wait! If you like books of this genre and don't mind some erotica, this book is worth reading.

Devil's Deal, Tarnished Billionaires 1, Michele Arris

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance, Erotica

I thought this sounded a fun read, I do love a romance with some spice ;-) but for me its a fail. Others love it and we all want different things though so might still be perfect for you even though it wasn't for me.

I found for a Billionaire "playboy" Lucas was far too quick to fall for Bailey, the lust between them was believable, but I found it hard to believe in the insta-love - it didn't fit the people I felt they were when they'd barely had a couple of dates...and not wholly successful ones at that.
I have a little trouble with insta-love scenes, when its people who've spent their life vying away from love. It needs to be a really special relationship and I didn't feel they'd got to know each other anywhere near enough for that.

Bailey is far to quick to push him away, too quick to lay blame at others door, and rely on past hurts, and yet friend Faith gets away with murder IMO. Sienna, the real friend, acted in a way I also found to be stretching credibility - it was far too predictable what was going to happen as a result of her actions, and then Bailey really over-reacted, not giving her a chance to explain.

Altogether it was a novel which I thought I'd like but fell short for me, but as ever you choose. Others love it.

Stars: Two and a half, it had promise and there were some parts that worked so it's more than a two, but doesn't really hit the three "good" rating.

I enjoyed the storyline of this one and appreciated the various obstacles to Bailey and Lucas finding their happily ever after. The interference from various friends and family members felt very real--as did the back and forth due to trust issues between the two. What felt out of sync to me was some of the sex and Bailey's feelings about it. I don't think someone with her past experiences would have been missing it as she seemed to be and I felt like her role the first few times was more aggressive than her experience would have led to. I sometimes felt the sex scenes were overdone but not enough to turn me off and I know some reader enjoy that more erotic flavor. She does leave the book on a cliffhanger through the Epilogue so readers should be prepared to look for Book 2 of the series (or skip the Epilogue). One thing that I really liked was the fact that it was an interracial relationship and yet Arris wrote it so that race wasn't the focus. It affected reactions from others a couple of times, but for the most part, race didn't factor in. It didn't matter to either Lucas or Bailey and I like to think that's in tune with today's society.

I was given a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another billionaire who thinks he can have whatever he wants without any consideration of what anyone else wants.

Lucas Marx sets his sights on Bailey Walters, the part time waitress serving him. When it turns out that Lucas is the ex of Bailey's boss of her daytime job things get complicated.

Bailey is sent out to help Lucas design his home. She does whatever she can to keep away from him. Will she be able to deny her feelings for a man who always gets what he wants.

The writing was decent, but it's the same story told in most books of this type. I'm sure others really loved it enough to rate higher than 3 stars but it was only OK to me.

I loved this book! It's the perfect mix of steamy and sweet. The author creates a great, realistic cast of characters and makes you feel like you're there in Bailey's world. Bailey and Lucas are firsts for one another in many ways and it's lovely to see their walls come down as they allow themselves to fall in love. Lots of twists and turns! I'm hoping the next story stars Sienna and Gavin. If you're looking to escape from the daily grind for a while, this is the perfect book for you!

Good Story

Really enjoyed this story. It was very entertaining. It had great character development and the characters were well developed. The story was great and moved seamlessly from one point to the other. I know there is a Book 2 somewhere. There are too many questions left.
Recommend book for all. Quick read. Could not put it down. Editing was very good.

Just the right amount os sexiness and steam. Lucas is what every women would fall for expect Bailey , having be burn by 2 exes not so easily sway with Lucas . The obstacle and turns that come their way and how they react to each other is the slow burn to get started. Love the story line and am looking forward to the next book

Really enjoyed this book

This is first book by this author I've read. Sweet, steamy and hot. Bailey and Lucas had some trust issues, however they worked through them. One of the best interracial novels that I've read. About to purchase the next book.

4.5 Stars.

Wow I haven't had this much fun reading a book in a while. Lucas and Bailey's story is breathtaking, suspenseful, angsty, thought provoking, dramatic, and passionate. I wanted to grab a hold of the characters and shake them at times. Sandra, I knew from the first word that she was trouble and it felt like nails on a chalkboard every time she spoke.

Lucas and Bailey each have pasts that make relationships challenging for them. With a few missteps, some well intended events that went wrong and for good measure throw in a few crazies to it make it more difficult.

I fell for not only Lucas and Bailey but for Sienna and Gavin as well. I can't wait to get my hands on their story. You know you have a good book when the last line hits you and it's like they are real and you want to run to them.

Devil's Deal is a beautiful love story that brought a smile to my face. Made me feel good about humanity again and has me craving more. Michele Arris provided memorable characters, hot scenes, unexpected turns and she held me prisoner until the last word.

4.5 Star because there were a few predictable scenes and I felt that the pace slowed for a few chapters. Over all this is a very solid story line with characters that are easy to bond with and grab a hold of the reader.

Thank you to NetGalley.com and the publisher for sharing this book with me.
