3.5 stars. Martina Cole is always so readable and each of these three Kate Burrows books skips along at a frenetic rate. I was always looking forward to getting back to them. A new one is just out and I will read that at some point.

The issue for me with these is that they are all very similar in plot and did not have the same grittiness of her other earlier works. The books always cover a lot of ground but being from the police point-of-view they lack the technical know-how. The first serial killer is so clever because he wears gloves. Really? There was actually nothing clever about him at all. As far as I could tell he made no real attempt at cover-up and if he did it was poor.

It is pretty easy to work-out the whodunnit in the other two books as well and that is saying something for me although Cole probably expects you to know she throws in a few red herrings for good measure.

I shouldn't complain about having three Martina Cole books as one Kindle book and I did enjoy them but I have read better ones.

Martina Cole can certainly tell a good story. I am amazed that she is able to give her vilest characters a human side so that one has a tiny bit of sympathy for them, even after they have done the most awful things. These three books were much grittier than I usually read, but someone who is a master of dark material, as she is, I will read. Thinking here also of Philip Kerr, Reed Farrel Coleman, and Tim Hallinan.

Couldn’t put this down great story with ‘real’ characters and you end up completely drawn into the story and routing for the central characters

Excellent trilogy

Great to have 3 stories. A nice space between the three big cases with enough background on the characters. Plots were excellent.
