Just in time for the show, Hayley's friends remind her that God loves everyone just as they are. Her talent could be right in front of her eyes...

Oh my! This was such an adorably sweet book. The message was simple enough for any child to grasp. It would be hard not to walk away with something. The illustrations were bright, colorful, and entertaining. The characters were diverse and encouraging. I really liked that. I thought there were many different teaching points that could be used by a parent or a teacher who wanted to show a child or a group of children what God's word says about them. I would definitely place this book on my bookshelf.
A complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review. The words I have expressed are my own.
This is what happens when authors who typically write for adults change things up and write a picture book--there is potential but it is not really suited for the target audience. I was hoping this book would make for a great read aloud picture book at a Sunday School class. However, word count aside, the book is a bit long-- a full 10 pages longer than the average picture book. Furthermore most of the pages have too much text in my opinion, at least for pre-readers. Most frustrating, though, are the illustrations. The water color is done in very light colors that would make seeing the illustrations (which are sometimes small and not full page pictures) difficult to see from any distance (like when you are reading aloud to a group of children). Overall this book could be usefully for teaching about finding your talent but only if the lighting wouldn't cause any glare. Also book would probably be best suited for a primary grade read aloud and not pre-school, due to it's length and detail of story.
"God gives all of us unique gifts. We just have to discover what they are."
Joyce Meyer's children's book reminds us that everyone is special in God's eyes, and we each have a unique gift and talent if we just take the time to discover it. Hayley Hippo is so busy trying to imitate the talents of her friends that she becomes frustrated that she can't find her own talent. When a friend reminds her, "God didn't make you to be like everyone else, He made you to be you!" she finally discovers her own gift.
The illustrations are cute and the story is endearing. It captured the attention of my 4 year old and opened the door for some wonderful discussions.
The zoo was having a talent show and everyone already knew what they were going to do. Everyone except Hayley Hippo. She tried everything her friends did but they just weren't the right thing for her. She felt like she had no talents and could not contribute to the show in any way. Finally someone discovered something Hayley was good at, something she had been doing all along without even knowing it. This cute picture book is a simple way to show young kids that everyone is talented in different ways.
Love this children's book. You can use it to teach children about finding their talents. You could also use it to teach about how God loves all his children and makes us all different. There is hardly any talk of God, just at the end. It is about Halley the Hippo and her finding a talent for the town talent show. Halley goes around seeing everyone else's talents and is discouraged thinking she has no talent of her own until she discovers that she too has a talent.
There is a talent show and Hayley the hippo is going around and around trying to discover her talent. This is another fun and attractive picture book from inspirational author Joyce Meyer.

Adorable book! It's hard finding your own talent, especially when everyone around you seems to have already found theirs! I like that the friends were the ones to help the hippo find her special talent. Cute illustrations too. I also love that the Scripture was included and even coincided with her verse at Awana this week.
What a lovely book to read with children. I work with kids who have self esteem issues and who are often comparing themselves to all their friends. This is a lovely way to approach the topic of being unique and beautiful no matter who you are with younger children. I loved it. Nice pics too.
