Nope nope nope... Not for me at all!!!

This book has a plot that I strongly dislike: Girl getting pregnant and having a child and the guy learning about it 4 years later!

Gross! I just want to strangle her.

No one has the right to hide such a fact no matter what!

I just didn't want to read about this annoying and frustrating story so I just skimmed and scanned the book to read my favorite character's parts only, who are Carter and Kat, of course :)))

Therefore, not rating it...
Just the plot-line makes it zero stars for me...

4 heartbreaking, second-chance stars

I have loved Riley in the previous books in the series, and have been so excited to finally get his story. His past has been hinted at in previous books of the series, and we know that he once had a great love, but that something went wrong and Riley has never recovered – choosing to lose himself in meaningless hook ups rather than find something meaningful with anybody else.

This book sees Riley returning to his home town following a family emergency. It’s an awkward trip because as much as he loves his family, his father did not cope well with his arrest and prison sentence, and the two have barely had a civil conversation since he was released. Home is also full of memories of his childhood, and of his past with his first and only love, Lexie

Lexie was Riley’s best friend from childhood. As 8 year olds they developed an instant connection, and they were glued to each other’s sides from that moment on. Their story is told in flashbacks to the past, and I loved watching their friendship develop over the years from best friends to teenagers in deep, all-consuming, once-in-a-lifetime love. They were so perfect together – happy, in love and planning for their future, and as the story of their past builds up to their heartbreaking separation, back in the present Riley gets the shock of his life when he sees her again for the first time in five years.

Theirs is an incredibly intense reconnection. It is very clear that there are still strong feelings between them, and though they’ve both moved on with their lives, they haven’t moved on from each other. But Lexie has been through her own ordeal and she has a lot that she’s hiding from Riley. When she finally comes clean with him, will they ever be able to move forward and find a HEA together?

Sophie Jackson does an amazing job telling this story. The feels! OMG, the feels! Just thinking about it again now, days after I finished the book, has all of my emotions in a flurry because as much as I love these two together, parts of this story pissed me right the hell off. I was SO freaking pissed. Honestly, I still kind of am - . Thank God Riley is a better person than I clearly am because otherwise there would be no story, but the way Lexie handled everything really soured me towards her. What saved the story for me was Riley. His emotional reaction to everything was understandable, justifiable and completely realistic. I love that I felt everything he was feeling, and I thought Jackson did a wonderful job of writing his pain, his grief and anger. My heart was with him the whole way.

And I love how they managed to move forward. Despite everything that happened in their past, Riley and Lexie were so honest with each other as they reconnected. They talked about their past and their present, they shared their feelings and they held nothing back from each other, and I loved watching them find their way forward together . There was a lot to overcome but they worked at it, they were completely open with each other, and the emotion was beautifully written.

“I love you,” she said, her words quiet but fervent. “God, I love you so much.”
Riley’s breath stuttered from his lungs and his eyes quickly became very hot. He placed his forearms at the sides of her head, framing her, protecting what was so precious to him. “I love you, too,” he whispered, nuzzling her temple. “All the world, Lex. Always.”

Riley blew me away in this book. The ex-manwhore has been through so much and he takes another massive hit in this book, and the way he deals with it was nothing short of incredible. I love that we got to see his huge heart and his fun, gentle spirit, and I loved seeing him get the happy ending that he always wanted.

I did love Riley and Lexie’s story. I think I would have been even more invested had I not been so angry at Lexie, but the beautiful writing, Riley’s forgiveness and their obvious connection was enough to pull me through. There is lots of time spent with them together, and I loved every moment as they rediscovered everything they had lost and learned to trust again. Through it all I thought their chemistry was wonderfully explored, and their love story was beautiful, realistic and full of emotion.

We also get to catch up with Carter & Lexie and Max & Grace and Riley’s brothers were a wonderful addition to the story. I already love Tate, and I’m hoping we get to see more of them if there are more books.

This is a story of true love, forgiveness, family, and second chances. It’s heartfelt and emotional with gorgeous moments of fun and lightness, and I love that Jackson made me feel it all, and feel is so strongly. This is a beautiful story, and there’s an epilogue which finishes off the story beautifully.

The Pound of Flesh series tells the stories of 4 best friends. Sweet, hot, and full of passion, these guys wear their hearts on their sleeves for the women they love and the guys who are like brothers. However, these books are stand alone’s that can be enjoyed in any order.

Told from the guys point of view, A Measure of Love tells the story of Riley and his only love, Lexie. Full of hope and passion, this story takes us through their life together from the time they met as children. Riley has loved her for all of those years and still longs for her but she has broken his heart. It has been 5 long years since he has seen her and yet she is still in his heart.

Full of heartbreak with hope of a future, this book pulls the emotional heartstrings that will bring a few tears and a few smiles along the way. Sophie Jackson is a master at developing characters that are deep, passionate, and fun too. You connect intimately with the characters and become a part of the family.

This book is a wonderful read that is full of memories and the delicate balance of love, family and a beautiful future for Riley and Lexie. Another amazing read that just sucks me further into this series. I hate to even think that there maybe only one more book in the series. Sigh….

Ama beni mutlu etti be, o yeter!

Sen ne tatlı şeysin öyle be!

Riley has been one of my favorite characters in this series, so I was thrilled to get his story.

I loved the family dynamic in this book and Riley has two of them. One is Carter and the boys and one is his blood family. With both, he gets the loyalty and support he needs while figuring out what's going on with Lexie.

There was a bit of drama and some push and pull, but I really enjoyed how the story unfolded. The flashbacks were an effective way to show their history and I loved getting to see their relationship grow.

Overall, it was a quick, enjoyable read and a great addition to the series.

A good book but I didn't love it as much as the other books in this series.
I loved the first half of this book though, then I lost interest a bit.
I may have to go back and read a 'pound of flesh' as I did love that book.

A Measure of Love centers on Riley and Lexie's love story.

Riley Moore is going back home after five years. His dad has suffered a second heart attack and Riley knows he can't avoid him any longer. His dad is still upset after Riley was found guilty and spent time in jail.

Riley has only loved one girl since he was a kid. He was devastated when things didn't work out for them but he has tried not to think about Lexie any longer.

Lexie has moved forward in her life. She has a successful business and she can count on the support from her family. She suffered a great loss when her father died and then saying goodbye to Riley broke her. Currently, she is in a much better place. But, when she sees Riley, she knows she has to make amends for pushing him away and the secrets she kept for too long.

**

I have to say that I'm a little disappointed. The main reason was that even though, she hid something important from him, everyone wanted her to grovel for his love. They wanted her to apologize for her "mistake" over and over again while she kept on claiming that it felt like the right decision for her at that time. I don't know, I guess it rubbed me the wrong way. She was a nice girl that had a lot on her plate and Riley had plenty of fun with too many women.

Now, to the positives... I liked his family. The brothers all seem to have a close relationship between each other. They like to tease each other and their banter had me smiling quite often. His relationship with his dad felt very real to me and I think their conflict was handled the right way.

I love Noah. He was a great little guy and his addiction with Superheroes was too cute.

I also liked Lexie's sister and mother. They were willing to pitch in to help her and Noah.

3.5/5 Fangs

This was a beautifully written, heart wrenching, sweet, and loving story about reconnecting, healing, and forgiveness. My heart almost couldn't take it but it was so worth it. Incredible writing. Sophie Jackson once again has blown me away!

Riley and Lexie had this amazing history and I love how the development of as it was all laid out. Everything came to light in such a wonderful fashion, and I hung on every word. They had such a complex relationship, full of so many layers. It really was this remarkable lifetime journey. Them coming back together and reconnecting and how all the details were laid out elicited so many emotions from me. I found Lexie endearing and sweet even though there were times I wanted to hate her and be mad at her. As she and Riley built their relationship, learning to trust one another again, I started to really like Lexie and by the end, I loved her. And Riley, wow. That man is deep and I loved his raw emotion. He had some heart wrenching moments and that were staggering. I spent a good amount of time trying to keep it together and not cry. There was this magical slow burn happening even though there were bits of heat and longing throughout, I love how it all played out.

There were so many tiny little things that happened that made my heart melt. There were so many wonderful secondary characters and I loved getting to see Carter, Kat, Max, and Grace again and meet new ones as well. I am totally curious about Riley's brothers and (fingers crossed) hope there are more stories where they're involved in the future.

This was just a perfectly detailed story, phenomenal writing, with an excellent build. I was captivated the entire time and completely invested. My emotions were all over the placed but I loved every second. My world melted away, my Kindle percentage disappeared, and I was just absorbed into this incredible story. I think it might be my favorite in the series to date. I highly recommend A Measure of Love as well as the rest of the series.

A Measure of Love is a third installment of the A Pound of Flesh series and each can be read as a standalone. I have to say this series is getting better and better. I love Riley and Lexie’s love story – beautiful, sweet, sexy and passionate.

Riley and Lexie were childhood friends - they were inseparable growing up. They tried to be platonic best friends at first but eventually it turned into something more. The two were so in love and were planning their future together. Unfortunately, life gets in the way – Lexie’s father died and she never really grieved properly. So when Riley took an opportunity at an internship overseas, Lexie ended their relationship before he could hurt her. Riley in the meantime made some bad choices that landed him in prison. They were both stubborn and said things they regret which caused so much hurt between them. Lexie kept a secret from Riley for so long until Riley came home and the truth came to light. Can they ever trust and forgive each other, heal and move on?

I think both Lexie and Riley have flaws but I like that about these characters -- their imperfections make them real and relatable. Of course what Lexie did was wrong but I understand her decision at the time. I also understand why Riley was having a hard time trusting Lexie again. He was hurt and it’s just going to take time to give his heart freely again. I like the fact that they took time the second go-around and didn’t give into lust, especially when there were little people involved – that part is super adorable guys!

Overall, this book was a sweet romance, low on drama and angst. It is about young love and second chance romance. It’s also about the love for family. I adore Riley’s whole family from the brothers to his parents. They seem to be close-knit and it’s not something you see a lot of these days in fiction or real life – it’s quite refreshing. This book was beautifully written and full of heartwarming sweetness. It’s about heartbreak, healing and forgiveness because love always prevails. Sophie Jackson delivered! Again!!! Loved it!

I have fallen head over heels in love with the story. I think it may just be my favourite of the series, which is a difficult choice to make because I have loved every single book so far. I am sure that I will be gushing about "A Measure of Love" for a long time to come. It was a story that was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes.

Because I had already met Riley in the previous books, I knew that there was an air of mystery about him when it came to his love life. Well, in this story all was revealed, Every part of Riley's tale of first love and broken hearts was uncovered. When I met Lexi and discovered more about the pairs relationship, my heart bled for the pain that they had both endured. Lexi and Riley had been through so much together and it was heartbreaking to see how it had all gone wrong.

I was gripped by Lexi and Riley's story, not wanting to put my kindle down. I loved having a glimpse into Lexi and Riley's childhood. Reading about their friendship and how their love blossomed, opened my eyes to how special Lexi and Riley's relationship was. Now that Lexi and Riley had been given a second chance, I was excited for their future and couldn't wait to see what happened next between the pair. I hoped that things would work out for them because it was obvious that they were truly meant to be together.

Sophie Jackson has written the most heartfelt novel. It was absolute perfection. I was touched by everything that I read. The writing was outstanding and I could not recommend this book enough. If you have not read any of the previous books in this series, this one can be read as a standalone, however I would recommend not missing any of the books out because they are all favourites of mine.

Io adoro Sophie Jackson e i suoi romanzi, quelli usciti in Italia fino ad ora li ho letti tutti divorandoli in poche ore.

Welke is nou mijn favoriet?

This was such a sweet and heartfelt story!!! We know the male MC Riley from the previous books in The pound of flesh-series, he’s Max’ coworker and an friend of Carter. That was a big plus for me, to get to see those amazing characters again.

Riley and Lexie’s story itself was so sweet and kind and romantic, that I didn’t want it to end. I laughed, teared up and mumbled a few ‘no, no, no’s, the further the story progressed. Add to that Sophie Jackson’s amazing writing – which I loooove wholeheartedly – and I was very happy with the result. The angst-level was somewhere in the middle for me, I wouldn’t really call it a very angsty book. Well, until the last 15%... Wow, that ending almost gave me anxiety! You thought everything was in a good place already and then BAM, a twist that left me breathless for a beat. Did this book have a happy ending though? Well, you have to find out LOL But I personally was very happy with it all.

All in all, I rate “A measure of love” with 4,5 stars and can recommend it to fans of this series as well as everyone who loves romance with sweet characters. Due to sexual situations readers 18+.

A Measure of Love by Sophie Jackson

Riley Moore is no angel, he’s been in prison but he also has a support network with his friends and family who support him. He has his brother Tate and I have to say his other brothers, Seb and Dex are awesome. I would happily buy and read their books too! I adore them!

Riley is called back home to Michigan when his father has a serious illness so he needs to be there to support his mother but he is apprehensive about going back to the place where his ex lives. He is still in love with the girl that got away, the string of women after that was to hide how much he missed and loves her.

Lexie has a secret of her own and I wasn’t expecting the secret, but it became apparent as the story progressed. Naturally due to her not telling Riley, Riley still did not fully trust her. She has a long way to go before he will even think about trusting her. He loves her though, that is obvious from the various flashbacks that occur throughout this book.

Noah, oh bless him I adore his relationship with Riley, there’s so much to learn from the eyes of an innocent child. There’s this almost inconceivable wisdom that comes from him and he is instrumental in getting Riley to let the past go and embrace what could be with Lexie.

My heart is fully with Riley and seriously pleaseeeee give us his brother’s stories! Starting with Tate is my preferred option!

5 stars!

This is a standalone novel, but once reading it you will want to run and grab the others!

Riley, swoon. He is one of four best friends on whom the series is based. He definitely is one of the best written men I have read in a while. He never tries to hide who he is and his emotions are out there for everyone to see.

Lexie is the woman Riley has always loved. ALWAYS. Even when they aren’t together and she left him with a broken heart.

A Measure of Love really puts you in the front row for a fantastic book about second chances with a first love. It is sweet, hot, full of passion, forgiveness, and best of all, real. When you really get into a book, reality seems to disappear while you are on the pages, but this book made me realize I need more of these friends’ stories! I am going to be headed back to buy them all as soon as I can.

The author’s writing is spot on and realistic. While there were some spots I wanted to shake my kindle at the characters, I realized that that is probably how I would have done things too. Life is not always pretty, and things happen that will break our hearts, but there is always things that will fill our hearts and heal our souls. ~ Devlynn, 5 stars

Romance and Fantasy for Cosmopolitan Girls

On my knees, I'll ask Last chance for one last dance 'Cause with you, I'd withstand All of hell to hold your hand I'd give it all I'd give for us Give anything but I won't give up 'Cause you know, you know, you know

Riley has always been an intriguing character for me as I read this series. I was interested about his background and I’m so glad that we were able to get that in this book.

This is a second-chance romance which is one of my favorites. Riley had to fly back home when there is a family emergency. He doesn’t really go home only for the special occasions and his trips are usually short. Besides there being family problems, he also left behind his heart when he left for New York. What happens when Riley comes face-to-face with his past?

I really enjoyed how this story played out. I knew there was more to Riley when I first met him in the first book of this series. We get the real him in this book. And I did like what I read. Not only do we deal with him and his family but also him and his true love Lexie. Riley finds out about a secret that Lexie has been keeping from him. How would he handle it? I loved how Riley dealt with everything that was thrown at him. It showed what type of person he was. I also enjoyed the flashbacks that Sophie shown in regards to the relationship between Riley and Lexie. We were able to see how their relationship progressed, how much they mean to each other, and what happened for them to be separated all these years. And how will it all affect them in the present as they try to restart their friendship/relationship? Sophie definitely had me invested in this story. It had a great flow and the characters were fantastic. Not only do we see the families of both Riley and Lexie but we also get to see the old gang from New York. I really loved the dynamic that Riley had with them. They were like his extended family.

Overall, this was a great read. I hope Sophie will write books for Riley’s brothers because they are very very intriguing. Though it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the previous books in the series. They were very good and the characters are wonderful.

A Measure of Love is intensely emotional dealing with grief and loss, crippling depression, guilt, regret and redemption.

We have already met Riley in A Pound of Flesh from his time with Carter in Kill to pay for a stupid mistake that he now has to carry with him for he rest of his life. Riley has distanced himself from his family since his incarceration. He feels unworthy of their love and forgiveness and can't face the disappointment he has caused his father. He has always loved Lexie from a young age but when she loses her father suddenly she becomes buried under a blanket of grief resulting in a deep depression. Unable to control her emotions the negativity keeps piling up on Lexie creating more problems which lead to her breaking both her own heart and Riley's. It was far too easy to relate to Lexie's feelings of unworthiness and her defense mechanism of pushing people away who were only trying to help her.

Returning to his hometown when his father's health is called into question, brings all of the past back to confront Riley, along with a few of Lexie's secrets. The past between Riley and Lexie is mixed sporadically through the narrative providing insight into their relationship as well as the events that have led to where they are today.

I really liked how Lexie was able to turn her life around and recover from her crippling encounter with depression. I adored her quirky personality, especially the way in which she embraces the idea of self-love; inspiring others to see the best in themselves along the way.

I did feel as if the story would have been better if told from a first person perspective as opposed to the third person; I felt like an outside observer at times and felt this may have prevented a deeper connection with the characters.

A great second chance romance…

This is the third book in the A Pound of Flesh series that can be read as a stand-alone.

Having turned his life in New York around after a mistake in judgement that landed him a prison term, Riley Moore is called home to Michigan, his father has suffered another heart attack, the second one in two years. The two are not on good terms much as Riley would like them to be, perhaps this time they’ll be able to put the past to rest. Returning home brings someone else to mind, the woman he loved, the one who broke his heart, the woman he’s never forgotten.

Hearing that Riley is in town throws Alexis (Lexie) Pierce in a quandary. A part of her hopes they won’t run into each other yet deep down she knows their meeting is probably unavoidable and long overdue, there’s something they need to discuss and she’s not looking forward to his reaction but she owes him for the way things ended between them.

Seeing each other again it’s as if time had stood still all those years, the feelings, the chemistry they once shared still burns in their blood, wonderful memories of their youth haunt them both. Can two people recapture what they once had? Can a relationship that failed once survive now in adulthood?

This was a great story, a second chance romance combined with coming of age. We’re not always ready to deal with what life throws at us causing us to hurt those we love the most as we try to survive, plans that meant so much are forced to change. But time does heal deep wounds and the years bring a level of maturity that was not present before. Lexie, now ready to face the damages caused by past actions has a chance to make amends with the lover and the best friend she has sorely missed if she can only earn back his trust. Riley, being the good man that he is cannot deny themselves the chance yet he enters their reconnection with his eyes wide open and a strong desire to protect his heart.

This was an emotional and thought provoking read with many strong themes: the dark downside of grieving, the importance of family and friends, the desire for redemption for mistakes made but also that of a deep abiding love that did not wane. The characters were so human, so relatable, what they went through touched the heartstrings. I liked how the hero handled the things life had thrown at him; that he took ownership of his mistakes and that Lexie, when she was able to, did the same. This story is told to us by the use of past and present chapters which slows the pacing somewhat, this reader prefers shorter flashbacks to whole chapters of them but for this story it was necessary and flowed nicely.

Sophie Jackson’s A Pound of Flesh series is an absolute powerhouse. With each new book and each character we get to know more about, I fall more in love with the cast and with Jackson’s writing.

Always.”

I’m a sucker for a second chance romance, I’ll admit. And Riley and Lexie’s story, which spans two decades, was nothing short of epic. I fell in love with both characters right away thanks to the heartfelt manner in which their tale was told. Watching the two of them meet as adorable eight year olds and seeing how their relationship morphed from being best friends to being completely in love was incredible.

This was such a beautiful book. I have enjoyed each of the Pound Of Flesh installments. While they all can be read as stand alone, I like reading things in order so I recommend that.

Riley was one I was waiting to find out more about. I'm glad he got his story and from his POV. He has one true love and one he never got over, Lexi. She broke his heart 5yrs ago and he still is not over her. Getting called back to his childhood home, he knows he is going to run into her.

The flash backs were a wonderful addition to the story and I think were needed. It helped show the heartbreaking past these two have and just how much they have been through.

This 2nd chance romance is full of angst, tears, and even a few smiles. Their journey to learning to trust again and finding peace is one I recommend to everyone.
