Smut, ah the adventures of a slut. In this case, two sluts. Meet Ethan and Wyatt, two boys with diametrically opposed natures with nothing in common except that Ethan’s former boyfriend Blake is now Wyatt’s roommate.
They are two teens who meet in college. The sparks don’t fly the first time they meet because Ethan is wounded at Blake’s rejection and Wyatt suffers from a syndrome that gives him unusual eye and hair coloring and a background that is less than stellar.
But when the match is lit, these two discover they can have great sex, no, really hot sex together. The sexual scenes are graphically detailed, almost deliriously so, and quite prolific, too. It makes sense; they are two horny male teenagers so you expect sex and lots of it to be on the menu. In fact, once these two get going, the sexual scenes occur every six or twelve pages or so.
The storyline isn’t left lacking. Ethan has friends and family. They offer their commentary on the burgeoning relationship between him and Wyatt. Both teens struggle with balancing school and family (i.e., Ethan struggles; he’s got problems with calculus and Wyatt’s family seems to consist mainly of an uncle who has the same syndrome he does). Both try to work with each other’s failings. Ethan is almost relentlessly optimistic, which baffles Wyatt. Wyatt doesn’t think love can fix his problems because of his past, which frustrates Ethan. Tiptoeing around the minefield of Wyatt’s simmering anger and misery poses challenges for both of them and made me a little sorry for Ethan. It can’t be easy dealing with someone whose first impulse is to leave whenever the situation gets too intense.
While I quite liked the two boys, I found myself wishing that they weren’t quite so focused on having sex all the time, everywhere that they could manage it. Whether in public rooms, on the stairs, in a kitchen or the great outdoors, they’re going at it hammer and tongs. At times, the story reads like hardcore porn with a scanty love story wrapped around it. They were barebacking right from the start, too, which left me a little queasy.
While I can accept that modern-day kids would want a vast amount of sexual activity, I found myself getting a tad bored with it by the second of the three stories presented here. But if you like copious, spicy sex scenes between adolescents, this novel more than delivers.
