About the author

John Charles Chapman (1930-2012), affectionately known as "Chappo", was well-known throughout Australia, the UK and South Africa as a clear and passionate Bible teacher and evangelist. He served for many years as the head of the Department of Evangelism in the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. He is the author of the best-selling A Fresh Start and Know and Tell the Gospel.

Great book that looks biblically at both the reasons why we should engage in evangelism and practically how to do that well

Solid. Good explanation of the rationale, motive, and practice of evangelism. The second section ('Knowing How') contained some good, specific advice (even to the point of evaluating different evangelistic programs) but felt a little bit dated (the third edition was published in 2002).

One of my favorite books on evangelism! I was helped by a clear explanation of the gospel in the first half, especially by what Christians tend to leave out; and really helpful practical tips in the second. Above all I was struck at how natural Chapman made evangelism out to be - natural because as we pray God sovereignly grants us opportunities, and also that as God shapes our minds to be more like his we find it easier to, in Chapman's words, think Christianly about the world.

Very helpful book. I thought one of its best contributions was the chapter on training your church in evangelism. While many evangelism books I've read discuss doing evangelism far fewer give the practical helps for training as well as Chapman's book did.

This is a great little book about what, how and why we should engage in evangelism as Christians. There is a good explanation of the gospel, methods on how to share the gospel and why it’s so important to do so. Easy to read and I would happy recommend this book to others.

As a Christian, I have an interest in knowing the most effective ways of telling others about the Gospel, and I found this book by the late John Chapman very useful.

The book starts off by explaining what the purpose of the Gospel is, and why Jesus came to Earth to live amongst us and be crucified, and then talks about ways to evangelise. A lot of this is drawn from Chapman’s own experience, and gives an accurate picture of the important points to remember when evangelising and examples of when it has not worked so well.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any other Christian who also has an interest in sharing their beliefs with others.
