Gunfighter Frank Butcher killed a lot of men in his time, not all of them justified. Now he's dead and facing a panel of underworld judges who will determine if he goes to heaven or burns in hell. But to decide, they must test him, sending him against warped underworld versions of five of his kills. All Frank has to do is kill the one that was justified and let the others live. That's how he must earn his redemption.
So with an unusual guide, Frank faces five of his past kills, each one more painful than the last. And each time, Frank must see the kill anew and decide if it was justified or not. And he can't die, either, for dying in the underworld will trap him there forever.

This book offers insight into Frank Butcher's character, so we can see where all that self-loathing comes from, drawing the series together and giving it cohesion. It is a different, but wonderfully entertaining story line.
Excellent prequel to the Hell's Butcher series. I didn't expect to enjoy Western horror/dark fantasy, but this was phenomenal introduction to it! Kudos, Chris Barili!
