Ravenheart. Wow. Words fail me. I have been a major fan of Dark’s for years, having read all her published works, I never miss the chance to meet her brilliantly-crafted characters.

I was hesitant with this series, feeling something lacking with Keystone, when it was probably just my own hopes. But I decided to trust the woman who has brought me a new favorite novel repeatedly throughout the years, and let me tell you, RAVENHEART DELIVERS!

Ravenheart delivers more than I could have EVER hoped for. Emotions: Love, fear, intrigue, heartache, anger, joy. Suspense – The plot twists were around every corner and made this book an addiction I never wanted to seek treatment for. And the humor. This woman! She never fails to put me in stitches. Finally, a first- Ugly cry. Dark delivers a moment so perfectly that I had to stop, take a moment and reflect. It was a beautiful thing.

These characters, like the ones that came before them, hold a special place in my heart. The magic that Dark weaves within her pages is nothing short of perfection. As I finished the final words of this novel I felt joy, fulfillment, and honor to have been given the chance to read this story.

Looking forward to what this author has up her sleeve next.

Alas....still zero heat. I am concerned this will be an ongoing issue. NEED HEAT!

That being said ... I cannot wait for book 3! Very exciting storylines. Each book leads so something new and segways smoothly. Secondary characters are amazing! Humor and sass still popping up (which I love). Just gimme a little 🔥 please!

Happy reading,

If I were to base my rating purely on the characters, world, and writing then it would be a 4. And if I were to base it on the plot it would be a 1 because it was so basic a 5-year-old could have pointed out the bad guy at 40% and wrapped the case up airtight at 60%. To me, that's not a good, thought out or clever plot. Knowing exactly how things are going to turn out and the reasoning behind it so early on doesn't create any suspense and made all the characters seem stupid, that was a major let down.

Having said that, as above, I still love all the characters and how the breeds are set up through this and in the Mageri series. I also like the sexual tension between Raven and Christian. There isn't any romance in either of the books but it's pretty obvious (hopefully) where it's heading, I just wish it would go there quicker and that Christian wasn't such a huge ho. But at least Raven isn't hanging on his leg and endlessly daydreaming about him.

Despite the poo plot, I will be reading the next one without a doubt.

If you follow my reviews, you may have noticed I have been devouring Dannika Dark's works. I began with the Seven series, then listened to the first book in Crossbreed only to discover a beloved character from the Mageri series was present. So in-between releases I listened to the first three audios in the Mageri series and holy cow am I glad I did.  Christian plays a significant role in RAVENHEART. All of the series are different, but all take place in the same world Dark created. It isn't necessary to have read the previous series, but you'll want to.

So, Raven is settling into her digs and even personalizing her space.  She spends time with the rest of the members of Keystone, including some outings to a "human" store which proved to be hilarious. I appreciated the way Dark allowed us in and showcased each of the members, not only their personalities but glimpses into who they were and their role in Keystone.

Raven hates vampires, but since she is saddled with Christian as a partner, she attempts to get to know him. Their bonding time is hilarious from snarky banter to outrageous bets. But it is when the two work a case together that these two become closer and get a chance to appreciate the others skill set, personalities, and the paths that led them to Keystone. Wow, we are just scratching the surface of what our heroine is capable of, and Raven is kickass, fearless and someone you want to have your six.

Wow, we are just scratching the surface of what our heroine is capable of, and Raven is kickass, fearless and someone you want to have your six.

The serial killer case was interesting and shed some light on discrimination even within the Breeds. Someone is killing females and leaving them in the human districts. What little clues they've gathered point toward a vampire. The team is forced to work with a Higher Authority officer who takes an interest in Raven. Dark provided plenty of twists and turns that kept me fully engaged.

Several sides threads teased and set us up for future installments and including an intriguing new case. Teasing and bickering between the crew members added a nice balance and gave the tale an easy, addictive flow.

I've listened to all of Dannika's books, including RAVENHEART. They translate beautifully to audio and are just the right length. Nichole Poole narrates all of her novels. The two are a perfect pairing. Poole enhances the story from dialect to tone. I love her male voices, dialect and her ease at transitioning between characters.

Took me all day but I finished at 2:39am lol.

I expect the relationship aspect may take a little longer and I can foresee obstacles. I still need to read about Christian in Mageri (even though I did read the series). I think I have the novella maybe the gift left.

In this book Raven is feeling a bit listless, they are between cases so the action isn't as packed as the last book. But the way Ms Dark does this makes it ok because it's a part of the investigation of things. Then comes a case with a string of murders. I kinda figured out who the killer was wayyyyy long before the rest of the cast of characters even had an inkling. Then I second guessed myself because the person Anyways as this is going on Christian still remembers their kiss, the one that Raven asked Christian to compel away. So she doesn't remember and he did and yet they both still have an attraction to each other.

We also find out a lot about a few characters pasts, not completely in depth but enough to make us slightly understand them more. We also still don't know much about Christian but I have a sneaking suspicion that Raven knows him from somewhere and here's why I also know or at least feel that Christian and Raven are mates, or whatever their equivalent is. I think they just don't know it yet and are fighting their attraction. There wasn't sexy time in this book, no making out or anything like that but Raven did have to drink Christian's blood and I expect something to come from that as there can be some side affects. Still though I enjoyed the book and blew through it. I wish the next book was done and waiting to come out like next week.

I think I might go back to Mageri to get some more insight to Christian.

5 Ravenheart Stars

I quite enjoyed the first book, you get to know the world and how the story is going to work. So we have the bones of what this series is going to be.

So with the second book, we are already familiar with the characters.
I am a Raven and Christian fan!! But I also love Gem and Nico, and, and, and lol ok I love em all.

This one was filled with so much mystery and action and who done it.
I quite liked the sexual tension ridding a lot of the characters. But what I love the most was the comradery between all the teammates of Keystone.

Raven and Christian really start to get to know each other and their partnership really is starting to become just that a partnership.
I like the back and forth they have and the tension they have makes you want more, more, more.

I like that Raven is starting to feel welcome with Keystone so much so that she is making her space her own. And she is learning to trust the other members of her the team.

I again will shout it from the roof, I love Nicole Poole's narration is every book I have listened to. She makes you feel a part of the story. I loved this book with her narration because she does give each person their own voice. And I am sure that can't be easy with so many characters but she always manages to do it flawlessly.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

O Dannika Dark… You never cease to impress me. Ravenheart continues the story of Raven and Keystone as they solve mysteries and catch killers… you know, the usual. So if this was just an urban paranormal mystery it would have been a pretty juicy serial killer story. What really makes this series shine are all the amazing characters. This band of misfits has distinct personalities and it’s their interpersonal relationships that take an ok story and make it a great one. Also… it’s hilarious! It’s full of clever laughs that make me actually laugh out loud when I read them.

At its core, Ravenheart is a twisty serial killer melodrama. Basically there’s a breed serial killer on the loose and the bodies are piling up. Keystone gets called in to help crack the case and put a stop to the murderer. I had my suspicions about the murderer and for a long while I thought maybe it had something to do with Raven’s maker. So when the killer was revealed, I was a bit surprised. The killer was on my list of suspects but the reasoning behind the crimes was so much juicier than I anticipated! So I liked that I didn’t immediately guess the killer and I actually loved the overly dramatic serial killer storyline.

There was also an emphasis on dating and relationships in Ravenheart. I think this may stem from these characters wanting to have some sense of a normal life outside of all the violence and mayhem of their everyday lives with Keystone. When they have a job where they encounter violence on a daily basis the interpersonal relationships become so much more important to ground the characters. Keystone is comprised of some incredibly unique personalities and I really enjoy their friendships with each other. I still have a huge soft spot for Christian. I’m such a sucker for a scoundrel with a heart of gold! Everything he says is pretty much magic but I laugh out loud every time he exclaims “Jaysus wept!” I wish there were more chapters from his perspective. I want to get inside of that head of his soooooooo bad!

I’m always excited when I hear that a new Dannika Dark novel is coming because she never lets me down with her cleverness, humor, and great characters. The members of the Keystone all have such mysterious back stories and I can’t wait until we discover all their secrets! I’m especially dying to learn Raven’s origins. We do get a taste of her past in Ravenheart but I feel like it’s only the tip of the iceberg. There also may be some romance blooming between some of the members. HOLY SEXUAL TENSION BATMAN! I really love this little group of misfit detectives and I can’t wait for more of their adventures.

(RabidReads.com)Well, she did it to me again. Dannika Dark remains the only author to give me cold chills while reading. Not only once this time, but twice. If you are a Mageri(her first series)fan, than you will understand completely after reading this more than worthy addition to her Cross-Breed series.

Raven, a cross-breed of both vampire and Mage, is still settling into her new role of working with a group named Keystone against Breed wrong doers. She’s been working against evil Breed members for years, but now she has backup and gets paid for it. Breed, otherwise known as anyone that is of the supernatural persuasion, are numerous in Cognito, making it the perfect place for the members of Keystone to thrive. This time around a serial killer vampire is at work in Cognito, draining women’s bodies of blood and leaving them out in the open to be found. Christian, formerly of the Mageri Series, is Raven’s partner and a vampire. He also kind of has a thing for her, but that goes against every rule at Keystone. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a paranormal romance, it’s urban fantasy all the way-so far anyway. However, that doesn’t mean that there’s not a spark there between the two. Other members of Keystone got even more fleshed out by Dark this time. Favorites, aside from Raven and Christian, were Gem, a roller skating adult Mage that doesn’t want to grow up, Niko, a blind Asian master of weapons and interpreter of energy that he can “see”, and Wyatt, a master computer hacker and gamer, with an ability to both interact with ghosts, and have them follow him home. Finishing out the group is Blue, a beautiful eagle shifter, Shepherd, a Sensor with a chip on his shoulder and scars covering his body, and Viktor, the Russian leader of Keystone, who also happens to be a wolf shifter.

It didn’t take me long to get invested in this series, but then it never does when I read one of Dark’s books. Raven as a character intrigued me from the beginning. A vampire and a Mage? How does that even happen? We do get more answers, especially concerning her vampire side, but I still want to know more about her Mage side. And I have always been intrigued by Christian. He’s enigmatic at his core, but is also honorable in his own way-although not when it comes to the ladies that flock around him-for the most part. The banter between Christian and Raven was both humorous and at times compelling; on the same note, the fun banter of the other characters kept this book from being completely dark due to the serial killer subject matter.

A mystery, thriller, and at times humorous read, this book also was about the wonderful characters that inhabit this part of Dark’s Breed world. If you enjoy a book that is story driven while verging a bit on the side of character driven, than this might be perfect for you. Dark’s writing was impeccable as is her usual, her characters were intricately depicted, and the mystery was good. The action had me on the edge of my seat and when I was done reading, the author still was able to give me a cold chill moment. So amazing.

I highly recommend this book(and of course the previous one)to adult urban fantasy fans, and paranormal readers that love a great read would enjoy this series as well. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Thank you Sharon J for recommending this series to me. This was not as good as the first book. The storyline was good. However, the heroine of the story was okay in this book. In the first book, I thought she was badass and sassy. In this book, she started to annoy me a little bit. She was not as smart as she was in the first book. I hope her characterization improves in the next book because I really did like her the first time, so it is sad to see a great character lack in the next book. Overall, an okay read.

Another great book!!! I love crime solving paranormal books and this one didn't disappoint. I usually realize who the killer is before you're supposed to know, and this one was a great surprise I didn't see coming. I really loved how the characters share more and more about their lives as they begin to trust each other, and form a family. If you want to read a page turner that doesn't slow down, or get boring, you really have to pick this one up. Just make sure you read Keystone, the first book in the series first. I loved both books and I'll be going back to read Dannika Darks Mageri series because there is some character crossover.

Loved this book and loving the series! I actually read the 1st book, then I read the entire Mageri series. Now I realize the significance of Raven and Christian. I love how the Mageri series entangles with this new series. I am hoping we will see more characters from that series in future books. I was really touched by the "John" ghost and that he finally went home. Wow. Great series and a wonderful author!!

If you are in the right mood, The Crossbreed series can be really good. I wouldn’t call this a young adult book because there’s ZERO sex / steam, but I think the plot and some situations are a bit too much for the youngsters. So I’m kind of on the fence with this. I think if I wanted a very clean and SUPER SLOW burn read then this book is for you.

I mean this book is SUPER SLOW burn, I’m talking about the relationship between Raven and Christian is the back burner of the book. The main plot of the book is the mysterious killer. A lot of the book is focused on that.

I’ll be honest and say this book had highs and lows for me. I was really bored with the mysterious killer plot because by the 60% mark I kind of figured it out and I was like, then what?

I was really glued to the pages when there was some interaction between Raven and Christian because well, there is no steam in this book so I was wish and praying for SOMETHING to happen to the two of them. Maybe a kiss?

I do like the side characters but there’s not enough good plot for the side characters. I don’t really care for their history, I just want them to all have sex with each other or have some sexual tension to take my mind on the fact that Raven and Christian will probably never hook up in this book. I think Nico has a thing for Gem though, that is my theory.

Overall, I can see why people like this series, but good grief I want some tension
April 14, 2022
Update 9/4/17:

“No, thanks. I’m just curious what kind of words of seduction you use to catch your prey. Probably telling them they taste like the Dead Sea or something romantic like that.”

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i see what you did there!!

A little slow at times but that sexual tension is crackling!! Can't wait to see how Christian and Raven's relationship will play out. I especially liked this little tidbit at the end:

"“Queen of Hearts.”
He stood up. “You mean ravenheart. Keepsakes are good for the soul. I have nothing personal from my early years, so hold on to the important things. It’s a fine piece.”
“Thanks for touching my heart, Niko,” I quipped.
Niko bowed. “Just be sure to give that privilege to someone who matters.”"

I doubt it's just a mere trinket like Raven thinks...I bet there's something more to it! Please elaborate Ms. Dark! Waiting for the next installment eagerly.

Ravenheart, book 2 of the Crossbreed series, was a wonderful continuation of the Keystone story line. I'll have to admit, Christian is starting to grow on me-- I've always liked his one-liners, but after this book, I think there's more depth to him, and I look forward to seeing where the plot is going. Raven is a great protagonist, and noticeably different from Silver (from the Mageri series). It could have been so easy to mix the two women up, but Dark has made each woman unique, with distinct personalities. Love the series! I wish Dark could write faster!!!

Love!!!

I am so happy with the second book in this series, it is perfect. I am excited to see how the story turns our, and to put together some of the foreshadowing I am sure Dannika Dark has Incorporated in the books. I eagerly look forward to the next book in this series!

4.5* better than the first book. Got a few chapters from other character's POVs than Raven's. The mystery in this one wasn't too complex but the way it developed and was resolved was original, interesting, and kept the readers attention. The world building also deepened in this story. Looking forward to reading the third and seeing Raven's and Christian's partnership develop.

I liked this one much more than the first. I'm not sure if the reason is because I was in a better head space for it, because I hadn't just marathoned the entire original series from which this one was spun, or because it's just a better book. I suspect it's some combination of all three.

I didn't spend a lot of time rolling my eyes, the story was good although I figured the bad guy out before anyone else did, but I remained engaged throughout the book and see the MCs growth albeit subtle.

And Christian wasn't such a jackass in this book.

Worth Waiting for

Perhaps the greatest praise I can offer here is that I knew immediately who John was because his voice and manner were so consistent with his character in the Mageri series. Thank you for giving him another chance to be a hero, and for tying up that little thread.

I have loved Christian since he first arrived in the Mageri series, in spite of his imperfections, and there are many, he is fundamentally a good guy, and I am 100% team Christian in this series.

For my more circumspect friends, there is more talking about sex than actually having any in this series, which means you can read the book, skimming only occasionally. If it were a movie, it would probably still be R for mature themes.

How to spend my life until book 3 comes out? Maybe I'll go back and do One Second. for those of you who haven't read the Seven series, there is a wonderful and full crossover between the main characters in both series. I won't say which. Start with Seven. That series is a very in-depth look at the shifters in the Breed world.

Wow

Beautiful. Really really great read. I love that we are getting to know Raven more and the wonderful Christian. What I love most about Dannikas books is that every character every character reads like the book is about them... It makes reading her books a total pleasure and you can't help falling in love with her wonderful characters. (Thank you for the gift of John tears streaming, that was honestly perfect I knew who he was as soon as you described him! Cryptic note I am sorry but that's a note to Dannika wow you wrote that perfectly thank you so much ) really great book and I love the slowly developing friendships. Loved this book and I can't wait for the next one. Beautifully written yay xxx

I fricken called it the whole time I knew he was the killer!!! Okay I didn't call it right away but after that scene where christian and her and the cop dude is in that restaurant together and he was calling Raven out about vampires I knew. Christian and her are getting close together even with him erasing that kiss I don't think that is going to stop them in the long run. I like how this series is progressing. Listening to the audio sometimes the people are hard to keep straight I mean I know who blue is and Victor and of course the main two in the story is. I guess I don't forget them just what their powers are like one is a cheetah and another an see ghosts but as the story focuses on them I remember again so that is nice that it brings it up to help remind me. I think the real issue is I am reading this series and Black swan together and they are very similar which now I can understand why I like both. So I think I will wait to read the third one when I am not also reading a black swan book and I think that will help with the mix up of characters. I feel Raven is growing and she has a lot of potential now if only Christian can stop acting like he is two sometimes that would be a big help. By the end of the book he definitely made up for it so he gets a few bonus points.

Ravenheart picks up where Crossbreed ended. Raven is apart of Keystone and learning more about her Mage and Vampire sides. Raven is just full of surprises and her team mates are learning she is more than meets the eye.

That slow burn romance is still building between Raven and Christian. I love the banter they have and some of the key elements of something that happened in the first book are starting to peak through. (Can’t say more without spoilers)

Another fun adventure with this mixed group of heroes. There was some mystery left open ended about some side characters that I believe may have been a crossover from the Mageri series (I’m binging that one SOON!).

Dark and Poole never fail to bring the awesome. Dark writes great characters and Poole is a master at bring them to life with her narration.

I want more

From the Mageri Series to the Seven Series and now to the Crossbreed Series, Dannika Dark has created a world that is down right addicting. Every character has a story to tell. Even secondary characters have great dimension. Raven Black, as with all of Dark's female leads, is strong, flawed and somewhat broken. Her interactions with her fellow Keystone members allow her to grow and evolve into who she wants and needs to be. A definite must read.

RAVENHEART (CROSSBREED #2) BY DANNIKA DARK is the second in the Keystone series which introduced the reader to the main character Raven Black, kickass former street person now part of the Keystone criminal hunter for hire group. Still trying to get her bearings with the group and find her niche, Raven is paired with handsome bloodsucking vampire Christian, who is a constant irritation to Raven. But, dead bodies are popping up on streets and Raven and the group must help find the killer

This is not only the first of the series I have read but also the first book of the author's books I have read. The pace is fast, the chapters are short & the plot kept me turning the pages until the very end.

I recieved this book free from goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

New adventures, deeper character development and visiting with someone strangely familiar but not easily forgotten describes the complex woven web within the pages of Ravenheart. Book Two of Dannika Dark's new Crossbreed World has everything from allegorically wise old characters to novice young ones, each one with delft skill, growing fierce loyalty to each other and to Keystone. All characters are haunted by personal histories in a breed world they just don't fit into easily. However, the Keystone "Motley Crewe" does not fail to take us on a new adventure with a tantalizing chain of events as partners Raven and Christian forge partner bonds, friends with benefits and/or lovers with a smoldering undercurrent of sexual tension. Dark reveals characters' personal skills and deeper personality traits to readers through masterful writing and even gives her fans a little nod to a character thought long gone from the breed world with ties to Cognito. This book made me uncomfortable in a good way . . . it touched my heart, made me ugly cry, provoked my patience, and made me wish I had real friends like the characters Dark introduces readers to in the Crossbreed World. Young or old, square or round, the Keystone characters fit into my world. Is Book Three ready yet? I found it a good read even though I abhor the 'ugly cry!' 😍 --g

supernatural CSI

raven was a walking contradiction, tough as nails when hunting down a killer yet helpless when offered sanctuary. An interesting mix of characters whose supernatural talents make them great team yet along the way they have become a family. Raven and Christian's chemistry was dangerous taking them both into uncharted territory. I can't wait to read what happens next.

This book was just as intriguing and action packed as the first installment. While some parts were a little predictable in how it was going to play out (because come on, I couldn't believe that for a second), I still enjoyed every minute of it. I especially loved delving a little bit deeper into the various members of Keystone's background and learning more about them. I of course also enjoyed watching the continuing flirtationship between Raven and Christian, especially knowing that Christian still remembers their kiss and that it mattered to him more than he let on. I can't wait to see where Dannika takes us next in the third installment of the Crossbreed series, which I hopefully won't have to wait long for! ;)
