Rate this book
From TV stars Tia and Tamera Mowry comes the thrilling conclusion to their middle grade series, Twintuition!

In this fourth and final book, tween twins Cassie and Caitlyn Waters are excited to be returning to their hometown, San Antonio, on a class trip. But as they reach their destination, trouble finds them as quickly as a vision, and one of their friends soon disappears.

Using their Sight and their street smarts to try and save the day, the twins also begin to see things they didn’t expect—a man in captivity who looks exactly like their father’s pictures. Could he really be alive? And can they use the clues they see to save him before it’s too late?

Double Cross
Caitlyn wants to talk about sending Granny L another email. Cassie says they can talk about it later. Aunt Cheryl calls sounding a little hectic. She aks to speak to their mom and their mom goes in her room and shuts the door. Cassie’s mind is on the television. Their a celebrity show on about Sakiko Star (Caitlyn’s favorite singer) and her escalating feud with her neighbor using her trash. The reporter says the clues are parrot poop and sardine cans. It’s said the guy always smells like fish. Sakiko’s house looks familiar to Caitlyn but she brushes it off. She’s probably seen it before because of Cassie.

As she passes her mother’s door, she hears her mom and she sounds upset. She hears the word key chain, it can’t be, and he’s dead. Mom says she made her peace with that years ago. Then Mom stops talking. She then comes out of the room. Caitlyn asks how her aunt Cheryl is and her mom growls fine and goes into the bathroom and closes the door. While shopping for the trip, Cassie has a vision of someone snatching Lav’s cell phone and crushing it. They then snatch her through a doorway. When she comes out of the vision, she sees Grandma L and her sister. Her friends look surprised that she’s white. Her Grandmother demands she come with her. In the limo, she tells the twins she got some news that their father might still be alive.

Back at their house, Grandma tells them all she thinks his death was faked. Then Caitlyn tells them about the vision she had of her grandmother hhugging her father. Grandma has some investigators on it. They’ve followed some online activity and some letters signed “Q J”. They still aren’t saying how he “died”. Grandma says she’s come to make sure they aren’t going to San Antonio. Their mom says there no need for that. She’s agreed to be a chaperone.

While Caitlyn is helping Brayden unto the bus, she has a vision of him splayed out on the ground looking disheveled. Lavende says she, Megan, and Biff are going to sneak away t o the Vynl record store and asks Cassie if she’ll come and she says sure. Cassie asks Caitlyn to come. It’ll make it easier to meet up with their cousin Steve. She wants to find out more about the vision of their mother looking at the shiny thing and crying. So, Caitlyn agrees. Cassie notices their mom isn’t in sight once they get to the Alamo and the principal says she slipped out she had some family business to take care of. By the time they all get ready to sneak off there are 13 of them (including Gabe).

When they get to the record store, Cassie’s immediately ready to take off, but her sister is hanging around with her friends. Then Brayden seems to want her attention. Steve is unusually late and Caitlyn is able to get Cassie away. In turn, Cassie gets them out of there when Gabe wants to know where their going by saying Cait is having an allergy attack. Steve looks strained when he sees them. He says he thinks he’s being followed and leads them to a nearby café. Steve tells them a sketchy guy came to his house looking for D Waters. He had something very important to give her. He’d get a reward if he did.

Then their aunt Cheryl came out. She didn’t know him. He said he’d gone to their old address. She told him she’d moved and he freaked out. He said he didn’t have time to go that far. “They” were already onto him. He gave them a keychain shaped like a British flag. Aunt Cheryl saw it, freaked, paid him, and then went to her room. There were some words scratched on it and an address. The twins tell him their theory about their dad. They decide to tell him about them having the Sight. Steve thinks it’s a joke.

Cassie tries to prompt a vision but it doesn’t work. Caitlyn tho has one of him in a dentist chair and she’s able to tell him details about the appointment. Caitlyn remembers the vision she had of her mom and aunt staring at -the flag keyring- and tells Steve she knows her mother is over her aunts right now. There friends text and the twins decide to get back, but they’ll tell them they meet up with their cousin. The twins find out that no one’s seen Lav. They all saw her flirting with a dark-haired guy earlier. Older. They headed for the exit minutes ago and no ones seen them since.

Cassie thinks about all the visions they had of Lav and that there were Spanish signs in one and thinks she might be at El Mercado (a market). Cassie has a vision that Emily shoves Brayden. They get their cousin to say they think he saw Lav with the guy. Steve spots the guy that was following him and the group goes over to confront him. They demand to know what he did with Lav and he recognizes them as “the rich girl’s friends”. He tells them she’s safe and asks what it’s worth to them to find out. Biance gets them to pool their money, but the 114.00 they have isn’t enough for this guy. He thinks he can get thousands out of them.

He says it’ll make up for getting there to late to grab the tacky key ring. Liam has disappeared but then comes back with the police. The guy takes off before the police can catch him. Brayden throws his crutch at him and the bad guy goes down. Brayden falls (which was one of the twins’ visions. Brayden sprawled out). The police are then able to arrest the guy. The guy refuses to tell the police where Lav is unless they let him go, but they say they’ll get him to talk.

The twins, their mom, their aunt, and Steve talk about it in private when they all are taken to Aunt Cheryl’s. They think the person who intercepted the guy that was following them is the kidnapper. Granny L (on the phone) suggests they use a focus item. Aunt Cheryl produces the key ring. Their mom gave it to him on their first date. Their grandma thinks the same person who took John took Lav. The keychain has the words U from UK to CA JTL. Their mom says it’s new.

Cassie touches the keyring and sees the older man she saw before in a kitchen. In the other vision he was handing their father something (the key ring?). He was putting sardine cans into the garbage. He also put some feathers in there. Caitlyn takes her hand and they have the vision of Lav. They see that she’s in what looks like a beauty shop. Aunt Cheryl says she knows the place. It’s a beauty shop (a tacky) one by the Famer’s Market.

The shop owner (Anna) says she hasn’t seen the girl, but a homeless man says he’ll show them where she is for a dollar. Anna tries to stop him, but he shows them an apartment behind the shop. Anna tries to run but the B boys block her in. Then Lav is released. Mom later says that the man (Anna’s son0 still isn’t saying why he lured her away. She also doesn’t know why he’d want the keychain. Though she thinks it might be in reference to England -where they meet and California where the twins were born. Caitlyn has a vision of her mom in summer clothes stroking a parrot. Lav says the man tricked her by telling her he was taking her to a “sample sale” and then locked her in the apartment.

On the bus going back, Brayden asks Cassie out to the movies, almost kisses her, and holds her hand ther est of the way back. During another training session, Mom says the hired thug gave a fake name for who sent him after the key chain. It was his idea to go after Lav after he screwed that up. Working this time on the focus items does nothing. Cassie’s vision of Emily shoving Brayden comes true at the movies when he won’t let her cut in line. After the movie, Caitlyn has a vision of Cassie on the beach in a cute swim suit. During another training session, Grandma brings more focus items (one is a tiara) Cassie has a vision of two men (one is her dad).

The other man takes a cane and pushes him over the side of a cliff. They try again but can’t get the vision back. Cassie has a vision of her mom running up a street where there are palm trees. Caitlyn has the same vision. They have it when their mother offers to let them touch her. Grandma peaces out (as always) and their mom leaves too. Lavender calls and says Abby found a Sekiko item on Ebay. It’s a man’s watch. The seller says he got it from her cousin. It’s something her neighbor tossed in her trashcan. It has the initials JTL. The butler’s name is Quinton Jeffers.

Then it all comes together. So, they take a flight to L.A. Cassie thinks Sakiko’s neighbor is Quentin Jeffers and he found out about the Sight and wanted their Dad to come work for him. When he wouldn’t he kidnapped him. Their dad must have seen the dumpster diving paparazzi digging through Sakiko’s garbage and that gave him an idea how to contact their mom. The man in the suit must be Quentin’s butler. Their dad could have talked him into planting the key chain and watch in Sakiko’s trash. There must have been a note with the keychain. And the words on the back were telling her he was still alive and where they were.

When they get to Sakiko’s, the butler tells them that Mr. Jeffers just left to “destroy the evidence”. They find their dad just in time to see Cassie’s vision about to play out. Jeffers has a gun pointed at him. Cassie tells him if they don’t let their father go, they’ll let Sakiko’s dog eat his parrot (Blue Beard). This stops him cold and he makes them go back to make sure the bird is ok. When he sees the bird is ok, he realizes he’s been lied to. Deal’s off. The twins ask for one last hug (as he’s been absent all their lives) and this touches him.(His father was also absentee). He agrees one hug each. He’s about to shoot John (who’s by this time ready just to die rather stay in that place one second longer). But Cassie grabs the bird’s tail-the Butler brought it in- and it flies up to the ceiling (distracting Jeffers). Mom rushes in and reads him his rights.

John admits a long time ago he had a vision of the twins crying and being put in a car. Jeffers had found out about the Lockwoods. Caitlyn realizes it was the diary which was out of their possession for a while. Then someone mentioned it on a post board. They said they’d found it in a junk shop. John admits he lost the diary on a train and someone must hae found it and it ended up with Quentin. He wasn’t sure what exactly he wanted with the power. Quentin wanted to expand his powers but he said thanks but no thanks. Then he had the vision while he was kissing the girls. So, he made a deal with Quentin to come to L.A four times a year. Only Quentin got paranoid from seeing something online he was spiling his secrets.

My Thoughts:
Toward the end this got a little muddled. It felt like the butler, and Mr. Jeffers, and the twin’s dad were all living in Sekiko Stars house. Why would Sakiko’s star’s butler have Mr. Jeffers bird? Then how did the butler even become close to Mr. Jeffers? It just felt like the story gave a rushed ending to tie everything up. It fit but..

Then this is just an interesting observation. I know Tia and Tamer’s father is white. Did you notice there’s a happy ending (reuntion) with a white father in a whole lot of there work? Take Sister Sister for example. At the end of the series the twins became reacquainted with their father (white) while searching for their mother. (He turned out to be an artist). Then there was Twitches. Again, their father was said to have died in a war fighting for his kingdom, but really their uncle (Thantos) had his soul trapped (with a bunch of other people in the kingdom). I think there was another one that went out of my head. This book makes three. I wonder is this intentional.

Rating: 6 This was a good series. It really did remind me a lot of “That’s So Raven” with the visions not always going the way they expect them too.

Okay overall this series was entertaining. I have to say this fourth and final book had the most action, however it just didn’t quite add up. It’s like it made sense but it didn’t flow well together. Like the occurrences that happened were almost too far fetched and random. But at the end everything was tied up and had a nice ending.

Minor spoiler: there’s a part near the ending where the twins talk about how their cop mom taught them how to shoot a gun “a couple years ago”... um their 12 years old... so did they learn when they were 10? I just found this strange. Maybe it’s an American thing or a cop thing, but it just had me surprised.

I'm not going to go into the plot with this review because I recommend reading these books in order.
So if you are at this review, hopefully you already read the other three and understand what is coming in this book :) I read this book to my daughter as I had read the previous 3 books to her. She is a great reader, but at 9 years old there are things in the book that are a little over her head. She likes me to read to her and explain as we go. She really liked all the books, and I would say she especially liked this one. Whenever I closed it for the night she would beg for me to read "just one more chapter!" The 4 books are basically 1 long story that happens over a few weeks to maybe a month of the characters lives. We were both disappointed this is the last book in the series and she is hoping for some more stories to come out in the future.

and since i feel like i should do some character ratings

cassie- the sassy one. the fashionista, the bestie by your side.
caitlyn- the nerd. the geek. the one who knows what to do, mostly.

A satisfying ending to the series. A little trite - Dad gets found, mom is still single, they live Happily Ever After, etc... But I'm sure that is what young kids are looking for in a story.
I didn't like that the story revolved around the girls sneaking off from a class trip with some of their friends. Kids who are the age of the target reader are quite easily influenced, and the fact that the trip in the story goes w/o any punishment or consequences is concerning to me as a parent. I can't even imagine my child at age 12 wandering off in a city for hours.

Cute relationships: sisters and mom. Complex and loving - well done!

One sister is kinda a bully. The dad is/isn’t? Dead? Grandma is good/evil?
