Step by step, learn powerful mindfulness-based techniques to feel happier and more alive.
Do you struggle with stress or negativity? Learn how self-compassion can help you find greater health, peace, emotional stability, and joy. Cutting-edge research shows that self-compassion is not only a skill anyone can strengthen through practice but also one of the strongest predictors of mental health and wellness. The practices in this book have been specially formulated to target and fortify what neuroscientists call the “care circuit” of the brain.
Devoting thirty minutes a day for just fourteen days to these simple practices can have life-changing results. Tim Desmond’s “Map to Self-Compassion” will engage your mind, heart, and spirit. It will improve your ability to motivate yourself with kindness; regulate and defuse intense emotions, anxiety, and depression; be resilient during life’s challenges; let go of self-criticism and destructive behavior; heal painful experiences; and be more present and compassionate with others. Experience the benefits firsthand! Features downloadable audio recordings for on-the-go practice.
TIM DESMOND is a Distinguished Faculty Scholar at Antioch University, teaching psychotherapy rooted in self-compassion.
I think this is a helpful resource if you've never meditated, or if you're a beginner. I also recommend this book if you're struggling with compassion and love towards yourself - the method in this book might help you take one step at a time towards a more positive outlook. For those who are more experienced in meditation, I'm afraid this resource might not be mind-blowing - which I don't mean as a way to devalue the importance of Mr. Desmond's work.
Lots of good little tidbits throughout this book, which is written in a way that is fitting for people who know a lot about self-compassion and those who do not. It comes with a link to audio meditations, which I found helpful. I subtracted a star because I didn't love how the journaling portion is woven into the meditations; I found it to be distracting when I was in my meditation zone and was then asked to write something down in my journal. All in all, would recommend to clients!
A very simple primer on self-compassion followed by a 14-day workbook with guided meditations online. In theory, this workbook seemed excellent, but the meditations did not have much direct correlation with the concepts of self-compassion and were rather simple basic meditations. I bought this book because Kristen Neff's workbook on the topic was not available for my Kindle Scribe and this one was available, but I am left with disappointment and will buy Neff's workbook anyway.
This book is extremely useful when you are struggling with self-compassion. I found the introduction and explanations well written, clear and easy to understand, and the exercises were definitely helpful. 5 out of 5 stars.
When it takes you 102 days to finish reading a 14 day workbook... 🫠🤪
There's a lot of wonderful advice in this book and it helped me start to change my perspective but I need to take another shot at actually following through on practicing before I can rate it.
A masterful blend of internal family systems therapy and the teachings of Zen master Thich Nhat Hahn, delivered as a series of exercises for deep self-work. Highly recommended.
