One of the best book - so far - that I've read this year. I have to say, I read a long time ago a similar book that taught me any subject like E-commerce Evolved. The best of Tanner Larsson's book is the total practical view without bullshit (which is often happen with marketing books).
After you read the E-commerce Evolved, you will understand the whole e-commerce business from a strategic view, and at the same time, you will get many smart tactic ideas.
I hope Tanner is going to write new books too in the future.

I read the book almost in one go - it is easily written and gives tons of relevant information - sometimes they could even be more detailed. The book is written for a rather advanced community of business owners, especially in the US. I also sometimes perceived the author as a bit too full of himself.. that’s why I only give 4 stars to an otherwise appealing and informative book.

9 Proven Ways to Reduce Product Returns for Your eCommerce Business

Product return policies and the product return process lead to many problems for online shopping companies. If you're only starting out or you've been in the industry for years, the returns mean time and resources expended handling extra packages, providing refunds, and attempting to keep the experience positive for the consumer so that they don't go back to one of your rivals once they get their refund. This article outlines 9 tips to reduce your product return, so you can save some capital and get your returns down to a reasonable amount. You will be able to achieve all of this while managing product returns.

1. Make sure that each of the items described has good quality photographs and specifications
Product Picture

A solution to decrease your returns is to set aside time and go through the existing eCommerce listings and product return policy. Ensure that each item has high-quality images, detailed explanations and videos where possible. You should concentrate on taking at least four images of each product, one from each direction.

Summary of the Product

Outline the scale, weight and content of the product in the definition to provide the buyer with as many details as they can pre-purchase. Keep the explanations updated to avoid product misunderstanding or unintentional selling errors.
Item video

Brief, quick 360° videos of the goods are all you need to reduce the returns the eCommerce company gets due to uncertainty about the items.

2. Integrate fitting guides and resources

Check the latest sizing guides to make sure they are up-to-date and easy to read on both your desktop and mobile devices. This would guarantee that consumers do not buy goods that are of the wrong size by mistake, and then refund them and raise the rate of return as a result.

3. Ask the clients for reasons for product return and reward them for doing so.

You must establish a process to motivate online shopping customers online shopping customers to leave reasons for product return. You can use free loyalty services to help you create feedback and reward consumers on your products and product return policy.

Product returns statistics have shown that online reviews have an effect on purchase choices by more than 93% of consumers. This indicates that reviews will help boost your revenue and reduce your eCommerce returns. It will also assist you in finding any complaints or concerns customers have with the item and identify points of confusion with the product return process so that you can change your ads, descriptions or communications accordingly.

4. Become a trendsetter in excellent customer service and how to return a product

Provide easy-to-access points of contact for consumers to get in touch with a product query or problem. This prohibits them from feeling annoyed and returning the item because they don't understand how it works or believe it's damaged. Try adding video chat or instant messages, along with standard phone and email approaches. This will help your customers understand how to return a product.

5. Get every order correct for the first time

Sending the incorrect thing to a client is a matter that any company encounters at one moment in time. Product returns statistics show 23 percent of customers sitting on the wrong object as the justification for their refund. This is enhancing order fulfillment as a good way to start reducing eCommerce returns.

Focusing on charts and graphs and post-it notes to manage orders and fulfilment set corporations up for failure. An easy approach is to incorporate a device to manage your orders, select, load, package and ship. You can come up with a solution, which results in a high degree of customer support, eliminates refunds from faulty products and reduces defects via the supply chain management. If that happens, customers like to shop more from your online store.

6. Prioritize your Packaging

Based on what you offer, your packaging factors will be unique for each item. The rule of thumb is to see how your products will travel and to frame your packaging choices upon it. Products that have arrived damaged or destroyed due to inadequate packaging are yet another main reason for their return.

Bettering the way, your package products will also help to discover the cause of damaged parts that are still turning up. It will also help you understand the possible explanation is more probable to be with the merchant than with your packaging.

7. Assess. Adjust. Resolve.

Every return that you process needs to be documented for assessment and to learn forecasting product returns. If you've never reported any returns previously, do so for a couple of weeks in the Excel spreadsheet with the return reason specifically outlined. When the period comes to an end, you can start analysing the data and have some ideas about what needs to be changed. You will also be able to learn what forecasting product returns are.

8. Increase the length of your product return policy and help customers how to return online
product

Many return policies are a month or less. If you want to reduce the return on your eCommerce shop, triple or double this. Growing the number of days, a buyer will return the product reduces the necessity of the returns. This pressure is the reason behind most returns, so by eliminating it, your consumers are more likely to be connected to the commodity they were supposed to return.

9. Offer the best possible service to the customers with an easy product return process

Focus on turning returns to positive by including serial numbers, an easy product return procedure, keeping customers updated by mail as their return is received and processed, and when they can request their refund, swap or store credit.

Keeping consumers updated and making them understand how to return an online product at any phase of the way stops a refund from having a detrimental impact on how they see you as a brand.
User insight is crucial when it comes to managing product returns, and these few tips are focused on scientific expertise and have an established record of helping to minimise those rising return rates while simplifying the product return procedure – eventually helping companies to make a positive effect on their end result.

By fixing common problems by using the tactics listed above, you can help give consumers a greater picture of your goods and ensuring that a greater percentage are satisfied with their online shopping. This means, you will reduce your product return on e-commerce and also establish a loyal customer base. For more informative pieces like this, don’t forget to check out Desertcart Blogs!

Going into ecommerce, I was not so keen about learning from a book, thinking that the ideas it contains would most probably be outdated and that I should stick to the internet in order to be as up-to-date as possible. This book proved me wrong. I deeply recommend it to anyone that is interested in ecommerce. You will learn the basic principles that you should always keep in mind on your ecommerce journey, and they will never get outdated. Tanner gives a lot of advice that is contrary to what I was used to hear online, but I can assure you that he is the one teaching the right principles for enjoying maximum success selling online. This book is packed with great tips, and there's no reason for anyone to not succeed by following what Tanner teaches in this great book.

This book is loaded with information, would it be recommended for a beginner eCommerce person. I do not think so, I was looking for the procedure: Step-by-Step for setting up an eCommerce store from product research and supplier logistics to the eComm store and marketing the product to taxes and everything after. However, with that said I also believe that there are some tips and tricks that can be integrated into a beginners attempts at success, so if your willing to read this book and then find the tidbits you'll appreciate what this book can do for you and it may make you more profitable.

Book is full of tips and hints. Principles are well explained. It is written in a convincing style so you start trusting techniques with minimum doubts in a matter of couple chapters. The only precondition I would set is to have your own business or store to try out recommendations. Not my case yet. But nevertheless I’m looking at e-commerce and physical commerce experience and digital footprints all around a bit differently now.
Definite recommendation to newbies in the industry, while it might be still useful to adepts for revision.

Great book, especially if you are a beginner. Tanner covers all the important aspects you need to consider as an e-commerce entrepreneur. Even though I have been working in e-commerce for a couple of years myself, I still found some valuable ideas in this book, although some of the concepts were already familiar to me.

My only critique is that the e-commerce industry evolves very quickly. This means that certain information in the book, which is already a few years old, may now be somewhat outdated.

I will definitely buy this book for anyone I know who starting an e-commerce business or even thinking about it. Incredibly good advice. I would have given it five stars but some of the terminology is anomalous. Rather than using industry standard terminology a lot of it is Tanner’s own terminology. This may cause a disconnect when trying to talk to vendors.

I've learnt far more about online sales reading this short book than I did finishing an M.B.A. Seriously.

It's a great read. Clear, to the point, and organized in an accessible manner. The advice is straightforward but not too obvious, and much of the information is concrete.

Definitely a must read for ecommerce merchants such as myself.
