An MC romance with a little comedy, a little violence, and the right amount of sexy.Sinning never felt so good... Prettyboy knows he isn’t winning any awards in the looks department. When an accident burned through half of his face, he wanted nothing more than to disappear right into the flames. He went from being the life of the party to being a recluse, and as an Original Seven that was no small feat. He sees the world moving on around him, and he wants to find happiness too, but he doesn’t know how? Until an ally drops a bereaving widow off on the Seven Deadlies’s doorstep. Esmeralda Quinn is a woman he’s seen before, the last time being on the night of her dead husband’s wake; Prettyboy can’t help but want her. He wants her in a way he hasn’t wanted anything before, but he’s terrified the scars he hides will ruin any chance he has at keeping her. He knows he’s a beast, but he wants to claim Esmeralda as his own. He wants to show her that there is life after death…Esmeralda Quinn is drowning. She’s floundering in her own grief when her President, Axel, decides to leave her with the notorious Seven Deadlies. With a turf war raging between Axel’s club and one of their enemies, Axel convinces her it’s the perfect time to take a vacation. But, Esmeralda doesn't want to leave the home she shared with Chris. His memory is everywhere, soaked into every surface of the Lone Rangers’s clubhouse, and she’s not prepared to say goodbye yet. Even still, she takes up residence in Rayna Claire’s old bedroom, but the storm isn’t over yet- she still has to return to the life of the living, and its proving harder than she ever imagined. Esmeralda knows she needs to move on, and she has a team of people working to make that happen, but she’s drawn to one man in Prettyboy. He’s sweet and mysterious and even though she tries to fight it, he’s got her wrapped around his finger in no time. Esmeralda never imagined herself a Phoenix, but spending time with Prettyboy makes her feel like a brand new woman...The Seven Deadlies novels are a series of, steamy romance novels, with happy endings! Not your typical MC romance!Content explicit love scenes, violence, vulgar language. Intended for mature audiences.*Book has been revised and reformatted via Vellum 2022*

Count your blessings because you never know when they'll be taken away.

Such is the case for newly wed Esmeralda Quinn Wilder after her husband Chris, member of the Lone Ranger MC, dies when his bike slips out on a rainy night. Six months later, Esme is a shell who survives by smoking and drinking until she passes out, only to repeat the next day. Lone Ranger's Prez has decided that Esme needs more than he or his club can provide for the grieving widow and arranges a temporary stay with with the Seven Deadlies MC.

Prettyboy Damon Michael survived his own accident a year ago. Half his face and body burned, and a permanent limp, he may be a genius with anything that has a motor in it but ladies run away in terror when they see see the scarred monster he's become. His goal is to survive until he can go out with guns blazing keeping to the fringes of the club alone and unloved until that happens.

Two souls who have nothing to live for finding out that their shared histories could be a starting point to build off of for the future. That is if outside forces don't resurrect secrets from the past that would destroy either or both of them permanently.

* * * *

Grabbed this book when it was recently featured as an Amazon freebie. Though I hadn't read the first installment Wrath (Seven Deadlies MC Book 1) I do feel this book can be read as a stand alone without any problems.

I normally avoid books that include tear jerker scenes. That being said I had to grab the tissues multiple times in the first half of this story as the author ripped out my emotional soul with the back stories regarding the main characters and the events that lead up to the initial meet up between the two. In a vague fashion this could be considered as a Beauty & The Beast sort of read though not to more than a superficial association to the fairy tale.

The romance between Prettyboy & Esme is one I rooted for as fate definitely was unkind to both of them and I needed theirs to be a HEA sort of ending. Not spilling the beans, I do feel the author created a realistic fictional story that I could get on board with as the characters lived in the difficult MC world which is never a bouquet of roses with a side of chocolate sort of lifestyle.

While there is adult content erotica, the majority of romance between the two is respectful that Esme is a widowed Old Lady in the MC world and thus to be respected. I did appreciate that Prettyboy courted Esme adhering to that status before culminating their relationship. My one hedge is that this happens so soon (roughly six months) after Esme's husband's death. To each their own in their own personal belief on grieving and when it's reasonable to believe the survivor is ready to move on.

The cast of secondary characters includes the main characters from Wrath Rayna & Fury who are in the active phase of planning their wedding. Can I insert AWKWARD here. The other secondary characters include the various members of the individual MC members, most notably Axel, who is the Prez of the Lone Rangers. His role in this story had me on the fence as to whether I liked or hated him which I'm still not definite about. Limit though, he stands out, but for what reason you'd have to read the story to find out. hehehe

As for the problematic areas of this story. World building and details were a major head scratcher for me. The majority of items I had issues would be spoilers in the story so the best I can do is pose a mythical example that won't make sense to anyone except those who have read the story. Say it's a mandatory rite of passage to patch into the MC that prospects are cattle prod branded with the MC logo (2 individual brand marks). I'd think this would hurt like a b*tch and would include some very creative language and screaming along the way, maybe. After care would be required I'd think so if that prospect were to take a hot shower soon after with no restrictions on clothing, etc after and/or residual pain I'd question that scenario. When repeated situations and/or details don't factor in reality, a story loses credibility.

I appreciated this fictional MC story and the Rayna/Esme partner relationship potential that I see forming. Seeing the old ladies of the club stand out as strong bad asses themselves makes a story all the more positive. Those who read contemporary biker romance stories might want to check this one out as this budding author has a lot of potential in her craft as she gets more experience under her belt.

p.s. Who's Maddie........

I read a 1 star review that scared me because I loved the first book, but hey differences are cool. If you liked Wrath you will like envy. No cheating, no ow/om drama, no separations. There is graphic violence (not as much as Wrath and it's more towards the end.)

Esme is an MC widow and she can't pull herself out of it, her president Axel sends her to the seven deadlies hoping to help her find her way back from the dark. Prettyboy, scarred from a fire never expects to find love let alone with a beauty like Esme but she is drawn to him too. I loved them together, they were sweet and said such sweet things to each other.

I loved seeing the rest of the MC (Fury and Rayna espcially) and I'm totally ready for the next book. The secondary characters were fleshed out more and I liked getting to know them. Some spelling/grammar errors.

What some people might not like:
It's not like other gritty 1% (though they are outlaws and there is graphic violence and death) MC books. These guys are actually sweet. I mean they are looking at fabric swatches and listening to Taylor Swift (no lie :) but really, it works and they don't come off like pu**ys to me but some hardcore MC fans may disagree (again different strokes)

Esme has been widowed for 6 months and pretty much fall for Prettyboy in a few days. Me, I feel like the heart has infinite ability to love others may feel it's just too fast but worked for me.

Anyway, I'm happy to report I loved their story and hope the next one is out soon.

I had high expectation about this one but didn't reached it ... at first everything was fine. I was excited about the premise of a beauty and beast love story. However Axel being touchy with Esme bothers me a little (and she being okay and intimate) later about Rayna no able to have children shadowed the story, I mean it's Esme or Rayna principal story right? Then Esme became a crazy killer with no humanity (with Tasha) my god I was mortified !! Where is the sweet and human Esme? The other upcoming old ladies will be like that? Where is the balance then? And the final Esme being surrogate for Rayna and Fury... ok that was cute but seriously I just can't ... I feel disappointed seeing how the series is going

As with Book 1, Wrath, I will stick with my assertion that I think the author is an excellent romance novelist, and should move into contemporary romance and out of MC. The emotions and interactions portrayed via the various relationships are fabulously written. However, it all falls horribly short by placing it within an MC setting. Every connection made as a reader with the characters and the story flies right out of the window once you hit those passages that has you scrunching up your face and thinking, "That would NEVER happen in an MC!!". There's a lot of 'face-scrunching' reading this book. I mean, Vera Wang...really?

In the MC world, members don't 'get their feelings hurt', and they certainly don't tolerate disrespect or allow their women to defend their 'hurt feelings'. They don't all demonstrate a lot of compassion and understanding. Alpha members don't give each other emotional and relationship advice. The Seven Deadlies continue to be The Brady Bunch of the MC world.

There continue to be a lot of editorial mistakes - wrong grammar, missing letters in words, etc. It just detracts. Send ARCs to a variety of people for feedback prior to release. It'd nip all of these issues in the bud.

As with Wrath, I would give the Envy 5 stars as a contemporary romance novel for the story premise and relationship development (strongly suggest she pursue that field), but a 1 star within the MC genre.

2.5 Stars for me
There's something about this series that makes me like it but then there's things I don't like. The MC members come across sometimes as some of the baddest bad asses around and then other times seem to totally morph into very weak men. The women start off so sugary sweet your teeth hurt but then turn into stone cold killers by the end of the book, laughing about their kills. Two of the MC members act like silly teenagers. There's a definite KA vibe in the stories but it somehow doesn't blend with the characters well IMO. When does a bad ass MC member say "those smarmy bastards" instead of "those f-ing bastards"? At time the dialogue of the guys seemed more suited to a gentrified man instead of a hard ass biker. And what is a "square"? I figured out from the context that it must be a cigarette maybe since they put it in their mouth, but who knows.
While I think a lot of readers enjoyed and will enjoy this series, this second book just didn't do it for me. IMO the author needs to stick with either a lite fluffy romance or go all the way with something that is truly on the grittier side and make the characters match the theme.

COMMENTS/NOTES: Loved that this was a true romance between Esme and Prettyboy. With wooing, love letters, candles- real love. That's very hard to find in a MC book. I am loving the Ox/Laura teasing. I also liked the surrogacy story- I think that's a first in this genre. And finally this name has been mentioned in passing in both books regarding Ox- Maddie. We know she was someone close to him- an ex, old lady? Dropping off a package- a child maybe? We'll see!

This fell a bit flat for me Im afraid. Im in the midst of a MC binge and have just re-read through all of Scott Hildreths MC books (which I loved) and the Reapers MC series (Joanna Wylde - also really enjoyed) so that may cloud by perception and I have to be up front and say that I have not read the first in the series.

With all that in mind .. I didn't warm to this book at all.

We are introduced to Esmeralda Quinn at a time of great angst. She has very recently lost her husband who died (we are told accidentaly), several weeks after their wedding and Esme has spent the past six months a state of depression and denial. She has been drowning her sorrows in alcohol and the president of her club feels that she needs a change so he drops her off at the club house of the Seven Deadlies MC (the two clubs are friendly). Esme is initially abrasive and rude (although not really all that bad) and she then makes friends with the characters that were the main protagonists of the previous book.

Damon 'Prettyboy' Michael Grey is the hero of the piece and he suffered a terrible accident recently - he was very badly burnt and this has left him scarred and with a permanent limp. He has been treated badly by one of the club whores and feels very self conscious about the scarring. So much so that he covers the lower part of his face with a bandanna. Prettyboy first saw Esme at the wake for her husband and he was attracted to her but felt that she would not want him.

All good so far. The two spot each other and their relationship develops at warp speed. This is what I found difficult with this book. At the beginning of the book it was made evident that Esme is suffering from the loss of her husband and yes seemingly without too much of an issue, she is OK to fall for Prettyboy.

Once they are established the MC side of the story comes through ... rival gangs, deceitful club whores, murder, tongue removal, betrayal etc.

The huge difference in this MC book is that the women (the Old Ladies at least) are given full disclosure of the events in the MC which is quite refreshing. Most MC books go on and on about how the Old Ladies are generally respected but have no place in finding out anything to do with what is mentioned in church ect.

Overall the writing style was good but I just could not warm up to the characters at all.

I couldn’t get past 7%

Bikers shaking their ass to Taylor Swift, wearing #tshirts, acting like teenagers.... wedding invitations spread out with material that the bikers were putting together? Discussions of Vera Wang dresses?

Read in another review that the Old Ladies are told all of the Club business? Since when? That’s not how it works....

Nope not my kind of bikers

What can I say? I'll just keep it simple, I loved this book. My hear fell in love with Prettyboy. He is the epitome of looking past the surface and seeing what beauty lies beneath. Esme was the best match for him. Her love and seeing past his scars, to the man that was underneath was something he needed. His act of selflessness left more than his body scarred, but with also a insecurity and vunerabilty that we saw in "Wrath". If you have read the first book, you would remember him being asked why the bandana, his response was so that he wouldn't scare Rayna. We find that this is his security blanket, as well. He loves it, but hates it, for good reason. From the get go, Esme doesn't see the scars, only who he is. Rather she doesn't mind them. She's got her own, but they're just on the inside. Sometimes those are harder to deal with. I loved how they healed each other. The betrayal wasn't something that I saw coming and was a nice twist in the midst of this love story.
Hot Love scenes? Yes
HEA? Yes
Well written? Yes
I have to say even though this author is new to the scene, I'm completely enamored with her and her work. She's a new favorite. The work is fast paced without being to fast or losing my interest. I don't find myself skipping pages or rolling my eyes at corny lines or completely unrealistic scenarios. Her characters are human and easy to relate to. I often say,if I can remember the name of the characters after I'm done reading, then I was truly involved in the story. This has happened with both stories by Ms. Ewald to date. My only complain is that I wish is was longer. I eagerly await more from her.

WOW!!! What a fantastic story line!

*Scratching my head* where to start?
FIRST: this is my first time reading Kaitlyn Ewald...and I love her style!
I had not read book one, but I had No problem getting into the flow of the book. Now in my humble opinion, that is the sign of a very talented author.

On to the book....Esme is out standing, she has kindness, compassion, love, and a deep inner strength that is phenomenal.
Prettyboy....he just makes you love him...he also is astonishing.

There are many twists and turns in the book. Some heart breaking sadness, and some unexpected love...and some down right bad a** women!!!
This one is a keeper in my library. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Brilliant

This book has me captivated from start to finish. Watching the story play out in my head as I read the words on the pages.
Twists, turns and surprises await you, oh boy what surprises they are. Some you might see coming others will hit you in the face. But the all aide in making this a fantastic story.
Well worth the rating I have given it.
I don't think you will be disappointed if you decide to give it a go.

It was a great read. You can't help but root for Prettyboy to find a HEA. The characters are great and the story line is heartbreaking at times but you just can't stop reading. I'm loving the female characters in this series. The H's aren't bad either. I love Green and can't wait for his book. He's so funny. Well worth the read. Rated very good

3.5 STARS!!! I'm really enjoying this series by Kaitlyn Ewald. This is Esme and Prettyboy's story and I loved it! With the help of each other, both of these wonderful characters are able to help each other heal from past trauma's. Esme's the real deal when it comes to an old lady and she proves it in this book.

Really enjoyed

I love stories where the women find their strength, through loss & betrayal, finding acceptance and love in places they did not know about. I really loved how Esme found her 'backbone' and came into her own, and what she did for Prettyboy, Rayna & Fury - just loved it

Stick with the slow start

because the pace, activities, plot and characters get to Warp Speed !!
I have only given 4* as the slow first 30-40% of the book nearly put me off, which was compounded by misspellings, and a few incoherent sentences. Having said that I really enjoyed this second book and I'm glad I stuck with it as the latter 60% more than compensated.

Who is Maddie?

That question I have a feeling won't be answered for a couple more books! But that's okay. I'm enjoying the series. Other than unrealistic healing and overused road names the stories are original. Prettyboy is not pretty. Esmeralda is.
