Shae is then placed in the witness protection programme where she’s given a whole new makeover, new name, new identity and a ready made family. If her identity is discovered by the wrong hands it could have dire consequences for her.
Fourteen years later in the form of a letter from a ghost has her arriving back in the city of Chicago where it all went down where she has to unravel the mysteries of it all to make sense, She's trying to piece places where her father took her into a memory that doesn't remember anything, like a blank slate, only her nightmares where she relives the killing.

♛ MY THOUGHTS: ♛ Black was very well written, you can tell this author is a seasoned writer in the way she delivers the story. The plot was intricate, and the pace moved at a steady rate. The only qualms I had about this book with it surrounding the mafia lifestyle I expected more angst, more bloodshed, but I enjoyed the dynamics between the two brothers and the fast burn romance between the heroine and the hero, their chemistry flew off the pages. I’d recommend this to readers wanting a breathtaking romance that would be somewhat called taboo as they come from two separate mafia families, their love oozed off the pages and made for an enjoyable read.

How far would you go to seek revenge one of the most dangerous man in the mafia? For Shae Black, the answer is pretty simple: Above and beyond. But getting revenge and finding answers as it turns out, will be the least of her problems because there’s one man who has her in his sights, and he’s not going to let her go that easy.
Seeing your father murdered would make any nine year old go into a state of shock and utter heartbreak and for Shae, this tragedy was no different for her. Having her entire world turned upside down in the blink of an eye was beyond devastating and moving on with a new family? That was soul crushing.
Out to find the man who’s responsible for her loss, Shae has returned to her hometown to get some answers. Although it’s been fourteen years since the murder, Shae knows that one way or another, she’s going to find out what really happened that night even if she’s putting herself in unknown danger. But when a handsome stranger decides to make his presence known, Shae must decide if she’s willing to break down her walls and finally let someone in for the first time in years.

They say love conquers all but when you’re a Ambrosi , the only thing that matters is family and loyalty in that order. Keeping your hands clean is never an easy feat but for Rex Ambrosi, he’s determined not to carry out the family business and be his own person. Clean hands and all. He’s content with his life and nothing makes him more happier than knowing that he’s doing the right thing everyday. When Shae enters his life, contentment is no longer in his vocabulary because that word is replaced with want, and need and this burning desire to protect her by any means necessary.
How far will Rex go to make Shae a permanent fixture in his life and keep her safe?
All in the name of family.
I have to say that I really enjoyed this one. I’ll admit that I was expecting this to be a lot more darker and mafia like, but the story itself held my attention. Rex was the ultimate swoon worthy hero and there’s nothing bad that I can say about him. The way he felt about Shae, every decision he made, and the loyalty that was ingrained in him was such a beautiful thing to see.
I also liked the fact that Shae never wavered when it came to getting answers and her connection with Rex was scorching! Those two set things on fire everywhere they went and I kept thinking to myself: How is she not pregnant yet?! This is one book you don’t want to miss out on.

Well well well them Ambrosi boys...
Pretty dang good if you ask me. I love mafia romance, and even though it was low on the actual mafia happenings it was still really good with that "family" vibe. The story unfolds slowly, and as each secret comes out it's like "ohhhhh that makes so much sense!"
Shae left Chicago when she was 9 after the deaths of her entire family. She was placed in witness protection for her safety, but as soon as she loses her dream job and has nothing to stay for in her new home, she heads back to Chicago. She's there for answers to the past she's forgotten, and maybe looking for a sense of home. What she gets is so much more than that!
The synopsis made me think it was a love triangle, but it definitely wasn't. Maybe that was the authors intention, so I won't say who the love interest actually ends up being. Just know that this relationship isn't a triangle. The naughty bits are hot. The relationship is quick of course, but the author gives a good build up and creates a believable bond between them. The writing is good, and the story is interesting. All in all a good read!

Good read, predictable. I figured it out.
It kept you reading though. It wrapped up way quick. I was hoping the big reveal would happen at the party, but it was kind of low keyed if you can say that. Lots of sex for sure. I think I am more interested in Dante's story so I will read the next.

Do yourself a favor. Read this book and go in blind. It was amazing from the start. It was a different read for me because every time I thought I knew what was going to happen or how a character would react I would get ready for the eye roll and then be blindsided by what actually occurred and I loved it. No predisposed notions here because EVERY TIME I thought I knew what the fallout was gonna look like I was wrong and so excited! KL Grayson did an amazing job with this storyline and these characters. You'll be head over heels for Rex in no time. I promise you that!

Wow. What a ride. Though I am notoriously good/annoying at guessing plot twists ahead of time and am nearly impossible to surprise (which drives my friends nuts- just ask them), Grayson had a few tricks up her sleeve with this one. As usual, she created great characters with an interesting backstory that pretty much exploded around them 75% of the way through the book. Did I guess several of the twists? Yes. Did I know how they would come to light or play out? Nope. And as usual, Grayson masterfully plays the heart with feelings of anticipation, grief, desire, and more.
Though it's technically a mafia romance book (which isn't really my thing to be honest), it's an atypical mafia read that deserves your attention. The ending sets up the next book in the series, which will focus on the male main character's brother.

Reading is fun when you go in blind which is how I started Black. I didn't read blurbs or reviews, just opened it up and started.
I wasn't disappointed with the beginning at all! We start with Shae's, our female lead, POV. The story starts with a bit of mystery, it's definitely enough to keep you reading to learn more. In the first chapter we learn a lot about Shae and her background. Sorry, no spoilers here!
Black is told from dual POVs between Shae and Rex, our male lead.
I like stories that have more to them - it's not your cookie cutter book of boy meets girl, boy chases girl, HEA. There are more layers to the story - you have the push and pull between Rex and Shae. You have some mystery over their backgrounds. You have some secrets that come to light - and wow, one plot twist that had me thinking one way but the story went another way! GREAT STUFF!
There are side characters, that readers will be interested in and will want more from: JJ & Erin who are Shae's roommates and friends and Dante who is Rex's brother.

Who is K.L. Grayson and what is she hiding? That was my first question. I have read and loved all of K.L.’s books but this one is outrageously amazing. The plot and writing are perfection (the standard from K.L). This is a darker side to K.L.’s normal romance books but it is also so much more. The emotions are more powerful, raw and gritty. The story takes you to a darker place and has you second guess so many things. The twist and turns will leave you breathless and broken. The secrets and lies almost consume you but in the end everything falls into place and you can't help but love the journey this book has taken you on. I can't wait to see what mind blowing story line K.L. comes up with next. Congratulations on another amazing book K.L. you rocked my world.

If you like hot, Italian alpha males, this is a story you want to read! I received an early ARC of this story and finished it in less than three days. KL Grayson switched things up this time around with Rex and Shae's story. Steamy, raw, hot, and a whole lot of sexy is what you're going to find between the pages of Black. And if you love plot twisters, you're going to get a major one that you may not have seen coming. Go get this book as soon as you can! You'll be dying to get your hands on Dante's story next!

Favorite book this year!!!!!
What a ride!! What a journey!! What a story!!
This book took me on the ride of my life. Mafia galore,
My emotions couldn't Be contained. So many moments you thought you knew what was going to happen and then Bam.
Rex and Shae wow their chemistry was off the charts,
Their pasts will blow you away, their connection will shock you.
It's thrilling and full of anticipation. Steamy sex scenes. Sweet tender moments, it has all the elements of a story your looking for.
I seriously couldn't put it down, there was no looking away.
Talk about being blindsided, holy wow, I can't express my love for this book. It's PERFECTION. The writing is flawless, I'm in aww at how good this book is. It's simply my favorite this year. I'd keep going but I don't want to spoil it. JUST READ IT.

This was my first read by K. L. Grayson and it most certainly will not be my last!
Grayson gives her readers new meaning to "heightened anticipation" whilst they are drawn into the suspense that surrounds Shae and Rex. They'll fall in love with Rex right along with Shae. They'll uncover secrets and lies surrounding Rex and Shae and fell the plethora of emotions the two experience with them.
Although Black is not the typical mafia novel, the chemistry and romance in it are on par with its rival mafia novels.
While I highlighted many lines and passages in Black, my absolute favorite was:
"I've waited so long for someone other than a friend to say those three words and mean them. I've prayed for this kind of love. This deep, soul-piercing, forever kind of love."

“ Black” by K.L. Grayson is one book that is a book that you should read going in blind. It is a story that will take you on a rollercoaster of an emotional ride. In the first chapter we learn a lot about the heroine Shae, her background and her past. Black is told from dual POVs between Shae and Rex our hero.
I do not want to give spoilers away about this story but what I can tell you is this story isn’t the basic story of how boy chases girl, wins her heart type scenario- oh no. This story has so many layers that you are peeling this back all the way thru this story to get to the heart of the matter. There is definite push/pull between the MC (Shae and Rex) and this story has a darker feel to it than some of her previous stories but that doesn’t detract but add to this story. This has a mob flavor to this story and there is a HUGE plot twist midway thru this story that I thought was going to take this story one way and ended up going in a whole another direction. I have to say there were a lot of passion, angst, confusion, love and power in this story. I was totally hooked from the first page and cannot wait to read stories about everyone that played a role in this story like Dante, Rex’s brother, and JJ & Erin who are Shae's roommates and good friends. These are complex characters but this author brought this story to light and the characters forth and made them feel so real. I am addicted to Black and cannot wait to read more about these cast of characters.

And this book has a shit load!!! lol Eeeep...I just loved reading this book. This book has sooo many twist and turns that will leave your head spinning...Hell, I had to read the epilogue twice...Black was sooo good. Very mysterious, mind blowing, thrilling and pretty damnnn Hawt!!! lol
So this book is about Shae and when she was young, she was forced into the Witness Protection Program after the murder of her mob boss father. She ends up with the Black Family. They don't treat her so well. Her life is pretty crappy living with them. She finally gets away from them, but secrets from her past start popping up. "Fourteen years later, a letter from a ghost thrusts Shae back into the life she was forced to leave behind." She was soo young when her father was murdered. Shae was having trouble remembering things that happened back then. Until Rex comes into the picture. She ends up falling for him although she does not do relationships. Rex said he could handle that....but he was wrong. He wanted to take Shae under his wing and protect her. I never ever ever expected this kind of book from KL Grayson.

Rex Ambrosi, son to a mafia boss but just any mafia boss, the boss of a well known crime family. One day outside of a club, a strip club that is, he runs into a stranger who looks awfully familiar except who is she? What happens in Rex's life is about to go upside down but I dont think he'll object in the end.
I never knew KL could pop out a book like this. I expected to maybe read a few pages and stop for the day, WRONG! Once I started I could not stop and I didnt really want to cause I wanted to know more. The constant oohs and ahhhs and what the hells were coming in spades throughout.
Also, that ending had me seriously questioning if I liked how it ended or not. I NEED DANTE! I need it.

Black is a gritty romance with lots of hot sexy time. It's well written, with strong lead characters and some fun secondary characters that help round out the story. What intrigued me most was the subplot surrounding our main characters. It was gritty and dangerous and I wanted more of it, more details and more thrills. I was disappointed that didn't happen because for me, it would have taken this story up a notch. Still, I think Black is a solid read that will appeal to readers who like relationship focused romance with heavy doses of heat. I wavered between 3 and 4 stars and ended up at 4. While this wasn't a wow book for me, I recognize it's appeal and the quality of the writing.

Tô com uma vontade enorme de escrever uma resenha dividida em duas partes. Uma que fala o que gostei e o que não gostei. Tô em conflito com esse livro mesmo tendo gostado muito da história.
Bom, vamo lá...
A história é muito boa. A leitura fluiu, a escrita da autora prendeu. Eu não a conhecia e curti o jeito de escrever. BLACK segue com um leve suspense, ficando mais na descoberta do amor da Shae pelo Rex Ambrosi. Foi um amor gostoso de ver crescer com misturas de cenas Hot muito bem descritas e uma história redonda. Sem furo. Adorei os personagens, inclusive os melhores amigos da Shae.

Aí, minha cara, é que tá o problema. Lê essa sinopse. Lê com calma. E depois descarta, porque não tem nada a ver. Acho que inclusive a sinopse da spoiler errado. Se é que é possível. Fui enganada. Fui levada a acreditar que leria um dark phoda, com muita ação do submundo, que ia ficar com o coração na mão, mordendo as unhas e loka pra descobrir a verdade.
Pois é. Não foi nada disso que recebi. Fiquei frustrada porque enquanto lia, o tempo todo pensava que fui enganada. Mas olha... Pode não parecer ( kkkkk ah loka) mas quero reafirmar que gostei da história. Mas uma coisa é deixar sentido dúbio, ou deixar a imaginação te levar com uma sinopse que parecia que ia trazer algo diferente. Outra coisa é enganar o leitor.
É por isso que tô frustrada. Eu adorei o livro, sim. Possivelmente vou ler o segundo que contará a história de outro personagem, mas não foi o que eu esperava. Fui achando uma coisa e recebi outra.
Se recomendo? Sim, mas vai sem acreditar que vai ler um dark. O que o leitor recebe aqui é um romance próximo do comum com leve suspense.

I adore each and everyone of K. L. 's books and while her books are typically real life romances (you know the ones I'm talking about. . . Where the love stories don't ask you to suspend your disbelief and they may be perfectly imperfect together but they are absolutely perfect for each other in all ways they just fit.) But with Black she gives us a new level. It starts off a little on the gritty side and I was applauding her choice to just jump right in and not sugar coat it for us, there is a mystery going on here and it revolves around the supressed memories of Shae. This story grips you from the first couple pages, the drive to figure out this mystery and pervades the love story becomes the driving force. Shae is coming to Chicago for a quest for answers as to what happened to her father and sister when she was 9. and also meeting up with her best friends Erin and JJ for a new start.
Erin and JJ know a little of Shae's back-story but not the whole thing. They are this great support system for her. She finds a fantastic new job so things are looking up! (Just wait though!) Erin takes them to this hot club for her bachelorette party and Shae sees someone she recognizes. . . Rex had met Shae when she had just gotten into town and felt that spark. . . They didn't exchange info so imagine her surprise when Rex is the owner of the club where Erin is having her party. . . The coincidences don't stop there though! The pacing of this story is amazing! It's fast paced, but how K. L. parcels out all the reveals and secrets and really develops the connections between characters takes us to a whole new level of storytelling. Its MARVELOUS!
There are so many twists and shocking moments that you cannot put this book down. I found myself frantically flipping pages just trying to see what happens next and once I got to the end I was left breathless! Yes, its different from most K. L. Grayson stories but it is her best yet! Shae and Rex are electric together and their chemistry crackles off the pages.

Shae and Rex couldn't be more opposite, or so it would appear. Shae is an event planner and, at first glance to Rex, lives a very normal life. Rex is the owner of one of the hottest clubs in Chicago. His family is known for their money and power. But he is a different kind of man, and running into Shae unearths the passion and desire that he has kept locked away.

Enter Rex and Dante Ambrosi—brothers who have a father in the business. Dante and Rex are far removed from the family business and like it that way because of circumstances from their youth.
Rex meets Shae unexpectedly and sparks fly instantly and what is meant to be a fun, hot one-night stand becomes more as feelings grow and the chemistry is undeniable.
I have to tell you that what I love about books like these are how they stand out from the crowd—sexy, suspenseful, mysterious and just really well written. I couldn't put this book down.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat and when the readers find out the answers to the past just WOW! You will be shocked to the core and won't be able to turn the pages fast enough to get to the very end.
While I wanted more information on the families itself and the business I have a feeling that there will be more to come and I am very much looking forward to the MORE!

My first book by this author and not too bad. Thought it would be more Darker and more Mafia, but all in all a very good story
A girl trying to get revenge for Sal Ambrosi killing her father. Two brothers protecting their family, but what she didn't count on was her feelings. What do you do when feelings get involved?
This is an awesome story, from beginning to end will have you guessing and every time you think you know the answer, you are so wrong.
Alpha male, and a definite strong heroine, who stands up for herself and doesn't give up

Can you imagine losing your memory due to an accident or traumatic experience? Being told something awful happened but have no recollection of the event?
Black begins with a bang! As a reader you're completely caught up in the tragedy from page one! How can you not wish the best for Shae? Ole girl has certainly earned the right to some happiness but hey who said life is fair?
Grayson did a fabulous job bringing the characters to life. Their individual POVs offer insight into their psyche and offers a different direction to the scenes. The mafia flair is an added bonus, of course. The angst in this story is A-1!!!

HOLY MOLY I FREAKING LOVED IT!!!
Shae and Rex OMG!! I fell in love with this book from the very beginning until the very end.. In all honesty this is one of those story's that I just didnt want to end!!
This author OMG I FLOVE her and her writing she has this amazing ability that just blows my mind of pulling me right into the story and keeping me hostage but in the best possible way!!!

Such a twisted, tangled up web of lies and deceitful characters around each corner. Everyone loves a good storyline to get lost and this sinks it's teeth into you and doesn't let you go until the very end yet I was hanging on for more. I was scared and nervous there for a minute that bad junk was going to happen. It's touch and go in Shae and Rex's relationship. It's so freaking hot though that it's enticing to hang on for the ride. Dante, Rex's brother, confuses me at times. I couldn't tell if he was rooting for their relationship or perhaps plotting against Shae. It definitely does catch your eye with the drama revolving around the mystery. I can't wait to read more about this family!

June 30, 2017DNF - Nothing wrong. I'm just so not in the mood for rushed relationship, and I already figured out the ~twist~ early on. The characters jumped into a sexual relationship way too fast so I got bored pretty quickly.
If you are a fan of sexy romance and hate slow burn romance then I guess this book is for you lovelies. 💕
