Maga-City One is under attack..... by something sinister.

It's the Werewolves! Lock up your robots and call a judge!

This is a short story arc which ran in 1988 featuring Judge Dredd and the dangerous werewolves. We are talking about classic werewolves here. You get bitten, you the wolf, Señor!

I loved the concept of the long walk and Undercity. And the best part about the story is Dredd's macho dialogues and the pencils.

The story thrives on "classic Dredd" moments and cool one-liners. But it still lacks a great plot.

I haven't read a ton of Judge Dredd, but I have read some. I never knew he battled werewolves until I saw this issue. The story was originally published in 1983, and includes some early Steve Dillon art. The art was very good, and you could shades of Dillon's future, more refined art. Also, his werewolf reminded me Berni Wrightson's werewolf from Stephen King's Cycle of the Werewolf, which I consider to be the definitive comic art werewolf. Ive written a book dealing with werewolves myself, so I do have a soft spot for them.

The story itself wasn't bad, although the werewolves aren't traditional werewolves, and really, the whole idea of their existence isn't explained very well.

Judge Dredd is bitten by a werewolf, and has to battle the werewolf pack in the underworld while also battling the curse. The ending was also a bit abrupt, but still, this was the early 80s and comics hadn't quite gotten as sophisticated as they would later.

Overall, a pretty cool story, and it made me sad that Steve Dillon passed last year. If you're a Dillon and/or Judge Dredd fan, or really even just a werewolf fan, this is worth checking out.

A classic Judge Dredd story. Here, werewolves appear in Mega City One, feasting on its residents or turning those merely injured by a werewolf into one. Traced to a substance in the underworld, it is up to Judge Dredd to find the source, neutralise it and return: in that order.

The only downside to the story is the abrupt ending where Dredd gets returned to the surface with the help of a 'convenient' Judge who happens to be on a 'long walk' underground. Otherwise, a classic Judge Dredd tale.

Trip down memory lane

This graphic novel is 5 stars all the way. One of the best dread stories, art is superb and the added extras are great. How different artists see the dread werewolf, all are exceedingly well done.
This story contains the iconic scene where Joe head butts a werewolf. That's all the spoiler I will give.
If you enjoy dread this is one for you.
