I would have found this inspiring if I were new to veganism/vegetarianism, but I’ve been eating this way for a decade now and have cooked all of these kinds of recipes (or a variation of them) before. Seasoned vegans and vegetarians will get more out of books like Jackie Kearney’s, or even revisiting the old Moosewood and Broccoli Forest cookbooks. I gave an extra star because I really applaud someone who wants to make this way of eating more accessible and mainstream - but I guess I’m just not the target audience 😊
The recipes in this cookbook range from healthy to junk food, which is exactly what I was looking for. I have bookmarked many recipes - so far I've only made the miso-glazed aubergine and it was very tasty so I have high hopes for the other recipes. The majority of the recipes include photographs, which I find useful.
Maybe I read other vegan books first with more innovativity that this one fell short. Even a non vegan would know to replace normal cheese with vegan cheese so the recipes are basically normal recipes just with the vegan version of the dairy products.
Absolutely loved this cookbook. A lot of people do not like Lucy Watson as she is quite outspoken about issues and they hate it. But I like her. I love her workouts (hint hint for a workout DVD maybe?) and I love how passionate she is about animals and being vegan. as a struggling vegetarian, well I try to be 75%vegan & 25% vegetarian, my downfall is always on the lovely treats like pizza & pasta. But Lucy and her cookbook show me how to make these treats vegan without loosing the indulgence. And I bet my friends who are passionate meat eaters wouldn't mind give it a try either. With veganuary coming up pretty soon, I cannot wait to try most of these recipes.
Fantastic. What a great way to introduce people to veganism.
OK, I was so skeptical as I can't stand made in Chelsea ........... However after the price being extremely low on kindle, I caved and bought this book. I don't know why I didn't listen to the reviews! The recipes are well thought out, imaginative d actually taste really really good! I've had so many vegan books that have had great reviews but have been terrible taste wise. This is not one of those books! This is a must for vegans and non vegans alike! Each recipe has a beautiful photo to accompany it. So impressed, the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the use of vegan cheese - its gross not for me, I knew this before this cook book. Well done Lucy, I hope there are more to come!
I'm not Vegan but since April I have been Vegetarian and embrace the idea of limiting animal-based products as best as I can, this book is excellent for ideas on how to try Vegan, what ingredients are best and what are vegan without you being aware. I often make a vegan choice when I'm eating out and it's available but it's harder to give up staple favourites for cooking. This book certainly helps it seem a lot less daunting. There are some very accessible and delicious sounding recipes that have really inspired me to try more homecooked Vegan meals. Great photos for each recipe which I think is really important to get a feel for the dish.
picked this up for 50p at a yard sale. the recipes in here are fine, theres nothing inherently wrong with any of the ones that i've tried. they make perfectly edible food. they're just extremely boring and kind of bland and theres absolutely nothing new or innovative in this book at all. you could probably find these exact recipes online damn near verbatim.
all in all, this book is probably good for a starter veggie, but im not, so i need cookbooks with a bit more bite to them.
Feed Me Vegan... real plant based meals (and DESSERTS!) highlight the natural flavors and easy to prepare recipes in the book. All of the dishes look appetizing, but recommended more for parties than everyday eating. Most of the dishes were okay, but a handful were unique and fresh. Half the book is full of vegan desserts.
