A haunting vision reveals a ghostly grave in the latest Bay Island Psychic Mystery from the author of Occult and Battery.
Whoever said that dead men tell no tales has never met Cass Donnovan...
Cass has always relied on her abilities to guide her, but after communications with a ghost land her in the middle of a murder investigation, she has to wonder if her gifts are really more a curse.
Cass knows she is meant to help track down the killer--much to the chagrin of local law enforcement--when the apparition leads her to a dead body on the beach near her psychic shop, Mystical Musings. But the police are not the only ones who wish Cass would stick to reading palms. Someone is trying to scare her off, and it will take all her powers of premonition to catch the killer before Cass herself becomes the next victim...
I have absolutely loved all the three books in this series and am really hoping the author has the fourth one in the works soon. They just keep getting better! This one was just a tad spooky, not scary just fun spooky as Cass realizes her talents are possibly not just the instincts she's always thought they were.
When a man named Artie Becker came into Cass's shop hoping she could find his lost daughter for him, the nightmares and visions that Cass had been having seemed to get more intense, someone, a woman needed her help. After two bodies (one of which is now just a skeleton) are found at the beach, the news people started hearing a rumor that a ghost had led Cass to the first body. In the meantime, Stephanie and Tank were not their usual happy selves and Cass was worried maybe something was wrong, hopefully not with their marriage. Cass was still seeing, if you can call it that, Luke Wilson, the detective she met in the first book. He'd been back six months ago and she was hoping to spend a fun weekend with him after the case of the bodies in the dunes was cleared up.
This series continues to just enchant and spoil me with some of the best characters out there! There is always such an overwhelming outpouring of friendship and love among the characters of Cass, Steph and Bee that even though they're not related, I think of them as all being family members to one another. I feel like I'm visiting close friends whenever I pick up one of these books. I like the new police chief, Chief Rawlins. She's from a larger town and seems open about paranormal things meaning Cass can feel comfortable talking to her about visions and such. And Beast, sweet big, fluffy monstrosity of a dog that likes to eat things got to go for his first obedience session. I sure hope it wasn't his last, he kind of needs more! ;)
I had honestly picked out the killer pretty early, but for just a random reason and I didn't quite put together the why until it was revealed. I went along for the ride to see how it would play out and it was awesome. The showdown was great--never underestimate the value of palming your keys, people! I just loved the very ending, gotta admit, I had leaky eyes but for happy reasons! I promise you will love the ending as much as I did!
This series just keeps getting better and better. I loved Clairvoyant and Present Danger by Lena Gregory. This series started out and I thought, it could go either way but honestly now it is one I think is absolutely perfect. It is a paranormal cozy series for sure but only really in book three do we get the full paranormal experience with a great cozy mystery and setting. Love the dog in this one seriously "Beast" is so easy to picture and fall in love with. I think of him as a bull in a china shop, or dog in a crystal shop. Great best friends in this series in Cass and her besties Bee and Stephanie. Lena writes this story that makes you feel like you are included in Cass' inner circle. There is so much to love in this series and a really great mystery awaits you with a bunch of surprises in Clairvoyant and Present Danger out now.
Asking for help, a ghost haunts Cass Donnovan in her sleep and visits her in her waking hours. Before too long, Cass discovers a body on the beach. A body she is lead to by the ghost. Cass knows she shouldn't get involved in the police investigation, but the ghost won’t allow her to sleep. Adding to her dilemma are the break-ins to her home and shop. With the help of her best friends Stephanie and Bee, Cass sets out to figure out who the ghost is, and what her connection to the body on the beach is. But the more Cass digs for the truth, the closer she becomes to being the killer’s next target.
Once again, Lena Gregory has written a good mystery. She had my mind going all over the place trying to solve the mystery before Cass did. I failed. In Clairvoyant and Present Danger the secrets have secrets, and some of those secrets are pretty good. I’m looking forward to seeing how the revelations of these secrets play out in the next book.

I have enjoyed all the books in the series but I think this one has been my favorite so far. It had me hooked from the beginning. Cass Donovan is a wonderful character. She is relatable, funny and has a terrific loyalty to her friends and those she cares about. I liked that in this book her abilities grow to something she didn't even think would happen - she has the ability to see spirits. The rest of the characters are well written in to the story and help create a community that engages the reader and leaves them wanting more. I like how the author is growing the characters in their personal lives and relationships. And of course Beast is still woefully untrained and hysterical. The mystery was well written and woven throughout the entire story. The author did a nice job of providing two mysteries, one modern and one older, and then weaving clues throughout the plot for the reader to piece together.
This is a well written series that has a touch of the paranormal element to it. The characters are well rounded, relatable, flawed and growing in their lives and relationships. I am looking forward to more to come in this series and well happily be returning to Bay Island.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Okay it is official Lena has now joined my list of just read subordinated yet another book that I have fallen in love with. As the third installment I have already gotten attached to Cass, Bee, and Stephanie which is without mentioning Beast with his lovableness which made me eager to five into this one. Of course it is Beast that find the bones buried in the beach dragging Cass into a murder investigation but she was already involved thanks to her ghostly visitor which provides just the right touch of paranormal to the story. Combine all that with some excellent writing that takes the reader on a twisting adventure that ends in a finale that made me sad I was out of pages to read. If you enjoy cozy mysteries that have a touch of paranormal you really have to read this series. I loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
This is my second time reading this Cozy Mystery, and now, I look forward to reading the fourth in the "Bay Island Psychic Mysteries," "Spirited Away."
Indeed, this Cozy Mystery was better, the second time around, and it is so enjoyable to return to visit the fictional Bay Island. I truly believe Bay Island is based on Long Island, New York, since Ms. Gregory lives on Long Island with her family.
Some New Yorkers consider Long Island the sixth NYC Borough, but it is its own entity and municipality.
Now more than ever, if Cass shall fully accept her Psychic abilities before the conclusion of this Cozy Mystery Series. It is certainly my hope that she does.
Cass, Cass, the once lonely lass, Remembers when she was a stranger, but Now more than ever, she has friends as her family In "Clairvoyant and Present Danger."
The ghosts are coming to her more often She can truly no longer deny; She had Psychic abilities including Second Sight As she helps people answer the "why."
Why was he killed, why did she lie, Why are they having a row; Whey did this person take this thing or that, and Why this ghost won't take a bow.
Cass is many loved, lonely no more, and so many Blessings abound, The third in this series was truly amazing, and Here's to the next go-round.
This third book in Gregory’s Bay Island Psychic Mystery series is possibly the best of the three – and they’ve all been completely enjoyable! Cass is really coming into her own, more comfortable in her own skin, and it shows in her increased sensitivity to the paranormal. Bighearted Bee continues to delight in every scene he steals (which is every scene he’s in), though Cass’ unruly dog Beast gives him some hilarious scene-stealing competition. Some tension between Tank and Stephanie adds to the layers of the main supporting cast, as does Cass’ maybe-relationship with sexy southern cop Luke (though that continues to mostly simmer in the background of the story). The mystery itself keeps readers nicely engrossed, though ‘whodunit’ may be a bit predictable for diehard cozy mystery fans.

Review:
The characters are well developed, well rounded and three dimensional. I really enjoyed spending time with Cass, Bee and Stephanie, three friends that are very close. I really liked how they were willing to have each others backs. They may complain about helping each other (especially Bee) but in the end they were always there. I felt like I had known the three for a long time, instead of just meeting them The secondary characters added a lot to the book, in my opinion.
The author is very talented in creating a small town setting and she did a great job of creating Bay Island. There was all of the nosiness you would expect in a small town and also the camaraderie that goes along with it. She is also very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book I felt like I was walking along the boardwalk, seeing all of the stores and visiting the shops.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The book moves along at a nice pace and I thought the mystery was well plotted. There were enough suspects to consider and enough clues to sift through and I really did not figure it out until it was revealed at the end.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. And the paranormal aspect was just icing on the cake for me, since those are some of my favorite cozies to read.
Although this is the third book in the series, I was not lost in any way. I felt like the characters were already old friends and I really enjoyed spending time with them. I am definitely going to read the first two books in this series.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for the opportunity to read and review this great book.
This is the third book in the Bay Island Psychic mystery series by Lena Gregory.
Basic premise Cass Donovan owns a psychic shoppe but she doesn’t really think she is psychic. Then she sees the ghost of a woman who leads her and her dog to a dead body on the beach. Now Cass and her friend, Bee do a little sleuthing to find the killer. And then Cass realizes she may actually have some sort of psychic sense after all.
I am pretty sure the name Cass is in homage to the psychic beauty from Troy named Cassandra who had the gift of sight but her burden was that no one ever believed her warnings. This story has the twist that the person who doesn’t believe is Cass herself.
I am not sure why but the gay man with the name Bee just threw me off for some reason. But he was the perfect sidekick to Cass’s heroine. I think Stephanie is a pretty integral part of the book series but I don’t think she stood out as much as the others.
This book grabs you from the beginning with the ghost and then the painting of the ghost. You begin to wonder what is going on and the solution is just so far off you can’t seem to grasp it.. like a wisp of the incense Cass burns in her shop.
The story gets a bit muddled in the middle but then end just shines! I love how the group seance was a throwback to an Agatha Christie plot device where you get all the suspects in one room and weed out the true killer. Classic! Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
If you love a good magical/paranormal/witchy cozy mystery, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.
Cass Donovan is settling in to her shop Mystical Musings. She is happy at the way everything has been going. She has very good friends, a beast of a dog and a relationship that may be just what she wants. If the nightmares would only stop life would be perfect. A walk on the beach with Beast drags her into a mystery that could cost lives. Can her special "intuition" help her discover what has happened before anyone else dies??? An intriguing mystery with wonderful characters and lots of fun. There is no way to guess who the guilty party is until our author sees fit to tell us. There is certainly no shortage of suspects. This story will keep you engrossed until the last page. Very good fun.
Psychic Cass has always used her abilities to guide her but after she sees a ghost she wonders if her psychic talents are real. The local law wants her to stay out of it but the ghost leads her to a woman’s body and she knows she has to help. Someone besides the police are trying to stop her and she encounters danger almost daily.
Cass Donovan left her psychiatry practice in Manhattan after one of her patients committed suicide, and she found her husband cheating with her best friend -- a double whammy. She's since used her powerful intuition and the fact that she notices small details to open a psychic shop, where she sells items to help people, and also gives group and private readings to people.
But Cass is also discovering that her psychic power is growing -- she's been able to see ghosts - or a form thereof - starting recently, and now she's beginning to have nightmares of a young woman who's asking for her help. When an angry man shows up wanting her help, she does her best, but she's knows there's more to his story.
While walking on the beach with her dog Beast, he brings her a bone that appears to be human. After finding the rest of the skeleton, she calls her police detective friend Tank, and he tells her to forget it and go home. But then the news crews and lookie-loos start arriving; and a second body is found buried in the sand. Things are escalating, and while Cass is really trying to stay out of it, she sees a portrait of a young woman in the window of a new art shop, and knows it's the woman from her dreams. But when she returns to the shop, the owner says the portrait isn't for sale and has removed it. Bringing her best friends Bee and Stephanie into the equation should bring her calm, but it doesn't. After her shop is is searched and she's injured, Cass is determined to find out what's going on...if she doesn't get killed first...
This is the third book in the series and I have to say that they keep getting better. While I wasn't impressed with the first, I definitely like the direction the stories are going. Cass is learning that she really does have a bit of psychic abilities, and ghosts are appearing to her; but she's not sure what she's supposed to do with that information yet. She's finding her way, much as the ghosts are finding theirs. I love the fact that these are not poltergeists, but spirits that need help or are there to help her.
She also has the eternal friendship of Bee, whom, while he doesn't believe in ghosts and doesn't want to hear anything about them (but I think he's just a tad afraid of them) still stands by her side no matter what's happening. He's a true friend, and I think that he's one of my favorite characters in the books. Stephanie, for her part, is a bit sad in this book and won't open up to Cass, although she really should have done so; yet it all becomes understandable.
The plot is nicely done, with the police trying to figure out who the two - one skeleton and one body - on the beach belong to, and Cass is becoming more positive she knows who at least one of the people that were found is a young woman who went missing not too long ago. But being asked not to say anything to anyone is harder than she imagines, and Cass is wondering what is going on, but trying to get on with her life, as much as she can. Interwoven into the story is Cass doing what she does best -- helping people who are in need of it. These small side journeys show us the type of person she is, and one can't help wonder how her ex-husband could have been such a dolt in doing what he did (sorry; I had to throw that in).
When the story starts to come to a close, we figure it out close to the time that Cass does herself; even though the clues are there, they are hidden well enough that we don't really put it together until then, and I enjoyed that very much. At the end, it all comes together nicely, with hints of what is to come in the next story in this series. Highly recommended.

Review:
Cass Donovan never really thought she was psychic, but now she is seeing a spirit that is haunting her nights. She has not had any sleep and if that is not bad enough this apparition is coming to her in her waking hours now. I have to say one of the reasons I enjoyed the first two in this delightful series is that for a paranormal cozy, they were not so “woo-woo”. For me, paranormal is not really my cup of tea in a cozy. Not sure why since I enjoy paranormal reads. So when I read that Cass was going to be seeing spirits, I was a bit disappointed. Well, I was mistaken. Author Lena Gregory handled it with the same style and “spirit” she has written the others in this series and her new series (which I love). Even if you are not a fan of the ghost world invading your cozy, give this one a go. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Cass is a wonderful character that is believable, flawed and a hoot. Of course Beast is my favorite, lol. I really enjoy her friends Bee and Stephanie and the whole supporting cast. Small town at it’s best on Bay Island. I can easily picture the town and people due to the great writing style of this author. The characters are well developed and entertaining. The story is intense and mesmerizing. Plenty of red herrings, but not so many as to be on overdrive. I was happy to see Cass’s business doing well and expanding. Now with her seeing spirits and being lead to a body, who knows how much busier she will be.
I really enjoyed that the characters are pulling together even more, with Tank becoming a bit softer and Cass’s relationship could be heading in the right direction finally. Beast is even getting trained. I liked how Cass came to terms with seeing the spirit and maybe having real psychic abilities. For me that helped me deal with the introduction of even more paranormal events. The fact that there could be an older murder and on top of that a newer one lead to even more questions and kept me guessing till the final reveal.
Even though Clairvoyant and Present Danger is the third book in this entertaining series, I do not think the reader would have any trouble if they read this first. Author Gregory does a great job of getting the reader up to speed without dragging down the tempo and flow of this enjoyable read. Changes are coming to Bay Island for several characters, not just Cass. That was a pleasant surprise as well. I really like these characters and enjoy visiting Bay Island. I would probably have to take Beast home with me though. Drop in on this great series and get swept up in the drama and fun of these intriguing characters.

CLAIRVOYANT AND PRESENT DANGER by Lena Gregory is the third book in the Bay Island Psychic Mystery series.
The story centers around Cass Donnovan who moved to Bay Island from the city where she was a psychiatrist. She opens up store Mystical Musings and loves the peace the island gives her. She’s making enough progress at the shop that she’s had the upper floor renovated so that she has a bigger space for her Saturday night group readings. She has the ability to interrupt signs or read people in readings and has recently found that spirits seem to find her to help them find peace which does everything but give Cass peace of mind. She is also trying to have a long distance relationship with Luke Morgan. It’s difficult, but it’s a very sweet romance.
Cass has a pet aptly named Beast who is a Leonberger that keeps her trying to keep up with him both physically and with the damage he does. Her two very close and dear friends are Bee and Stephanie – who are always willing to give a helping hand, a little advice and have been known to go to bat for each other. Bee doesn’t say he doesn’t believe in ghost, he just doesn’t want to see or know about them.
Cass starts having nightmares which have her dreading falling asleep and trying everything in her power not to drift off. However, she finds that the visions start coming to her while she awake. It seems desperate for Cass’s help.
One of Cass’s apparition leads her to a dead body on the beach near her psychic shop where Beast promptly digs to expose human bones. Once again, she has to call 911 to report a body which brings Detective Tank, Stephanie’s husband, to the scene. Is that what the apparition has been trying to tell her – that she was murdered?
While being asked by the police not to get involved, Cass finds herself and her friends in deep trouble at times when evidently the murderer thinks she’s getting too close.
I loved how you found yourself second guessing yourself trying to figure out whodunit. Loved the steps of investigation and how Cass’s friends and even Tank played parts in helping her and protecting your as well.
Although some might call me a skeptic of sorts, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s not over the top and keeps you on your toes feeling like you are right there with Cass trying to solve who murdered not one but two people and buried them on the beach at Bay Island.
This was the first book I have read in this series so it can definitely be read as a standalone book. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that loves cozy mysteries with just a hint of romance. I know I’ll be looking forward to book #4 and will be finding books #1 & #2.
Lena Gregory's Bay Island Psychic Mysteries is a wonderful series with fun and exciting characters.
Cass Donnovan has really made Bay Island her home. She has a wonderful, thriving business, a unruly but protective dog, great friends, and what is the making of a sweet romance. Now, she just needs to get the nightmares to stop. Involving the ghost of a female, Cass not only sees things in her nightmares, but the ghost is manifesting itself to her. She knows the ghost is trying to tell her something, and when that something is revealed, Cass now finds herself immersed in yet another murder investigation.
I absolutely adore Cass, Bee, Stephanie, and Tank. Their dynamics create a friendship that is warm and emotional and they have each other's backs - no matter what. Even Bee and Tank are getting along a lot better than when we first met them in book 1. Cass is a very down-to-earth person. She's likable from the start. It is easy to connect to her, whether you believe in psychic abilities or not. Stephanie and Bee are wonderful sidekicks to Cass main character. They are supportive and comforting to Cass. I love how the author has developed Bee. He sounds like the perfectly imperfect best friend that everyone wishes they had to stand beside them. Stephanie is unusually somber in this installment and the author did a great job creating a different plot line for her and Tank. I really feel for both of them because my real-life situation is just theirs.
The story is unique and entertaining. I was completely engaged from the very beginning. As the story progresses, the author introduces more characters that make figuring out the murderer a little harder. For me, everyone was a suspect from a father, a out-of-towner, local citizens, and others who found themselved on Bay Island. As per usual Cass, the protagonist, does some pretty dumb things, but unlike other cozies I've read, she at least acknowledges the danger of her actions. She's not oblivious to the danger but her need to help the ghost who asks for her help is stronger than her common sense. Although, her antics aren't nearly as hair-brained in this book. Cass really is a great character who is written well, with a personality that is likable.
I certainly hope we readers get a lot more of Cass, Stephanie, Bee, and Tank. It would be ashamed to end the series here. I'm rooting for at least 3 more books - things are really starting to get good on Bay Island.
Great, entertaining mystery by Lena Gregory! It’s been a while since I have read a cozy mystery, and Gregory reminded me of why it’s one of my favorite genres, with a great storyline and great characters.
Cass is settling in nicely on Bay Island. Her business is thriving. She has a playful, loving canine best friend, Beast. She has her two best friends, Stephanie and Bee. She is also enjoying her new relationship with Luke, even if they don’t get to see each other as much as they would like. Life is going good for her, but some darkness is lurking in the periphery, in the form of nightmares of a woman needing her help. Now, she is seeing the visions in the daytime while she is awake. She doesn’t know how to help her or what she wants. All she knows is that it’s frightening. When she realizes what the strange woman wants, she finds herself smack dab back in the middle of a murder mystery and in danger. It will be up to her and her friends to solve it before she risks losing her life.
Gregory has certainly created a delightful cast of characters. Cass is a woman who is very easy to relate too. She has had some disappointments in her life, yet she forges on, continuing to help others. Her psychic abilities made me love her even more. She never uses them selfishly, always trying to bring peace to her customers. Her relationship with Bee and Stephanie is just fantastic. The three are always there supporting each other, even when Cass is asking them to help to seances in the middle of the night. Her relationship with Luke is very realistic, taking their time getting to know each other slowly. I love the added light romance. My favorite character is Beast, maybe because I have two like him myself. I just love any writer who makes a dog a main character in and of themselves.
Gregory did a phenomenal job of creating a cozy mystery with several elements, a bit of romance and with paranormal aspects. Both of these blended flawlessly to create a great book with a fantastic setting! Can’t wait to return to Bay Island to catch up with all Cass and all the others.

A Little About the Book Cass Donovan has made a living relying on her abilities and intuition. But she can’t help wonder if her gifts are a little stronger than she originally thought when a ghost leads her to a dead body on the beach. And whoever the killer is does not want Cass snooping around because her life is threatened with every twist and turn. Can Cass bring the killer to justice before she, or someone else, gets hurt?
Stuff You Should Know Sub-Themes: paranormal cozy, dogs, small business owner, New England
Can You Start This Series in the Middle: This was the first book in the series that I read. Starting in the middle I got a good sense for this mystery, but did wonder about certain elements of Cass and her life before this book.
If You Like: If you like Bailey Cates’s Magical Bakery Mystery Series, you’ll enjoy this book.
This book had just the right amount of paranormal for me. Cass has experiences she can’t explain and she questions them. She has friends that are both believers and skeptics, which I appreciated and I thought made for more relatable characters. I enjoyed that Cass was strong and had a good set of friends to help her through life. This is a series that I’ll continue to follow in future installments.
CLAIRVOYANT AMD PRESENT DANGER By Lena Gregory The Third Bay Island Psychic Mystery
While Cass gives psychic readings at her shop Mystical Musings, she never considered herself a psychic, merely a person very good at reading people, a skill cultivated during her time as a psychiatrist. Now Cass is concerned that she may be losing her mind as the woman from the nightmares that have been leaving her sleep deprived is now appearing while she's awake and pleading for help. A ghost? A psychic vision? Madness? When the ghostly apparition leads Cass to human bones buried on the beach Cass must consider that she truly has psychic abilities. Psychic or not, she knows she must uncover the identity of the apparition and what happened to her. Will she discover a connection between the suspicious man who came for a reading and the gallery owner? More importantly, will she find time to get Beast some training?
This engaging series just keeps getting better and CLAIRVOYANT AMD PRESENT DANGER is my favorite book thus far. A slight departure from previous books, while there is a dead body and a killer, the mystery doesn't spend the majority of the time around either. The mystery at first is about Cass's mental health and a missing woman as well as the possible connection between them. In fact, CLAIRVOYANT AMD PRESENT DANGER is a book about connections. Connecting the new people in town with their pasts and their dealings with Cass, the connections of the bones on the beach with the missing girl, the connections of the friends and their significant others, and ultimately, the connection between Cass and her gift.
I love the friendship between Cass, Bee, and Stephanie. Time and time again they demonstrate what true friendship is. Beast brings unrestrained love, fun and joy to the story, although it is about time he gets some training. The mystery of the missing woman is intriguing on so many levels with a variety of clues, suspicious behavior, and suspects. Lena Gregory knocks it our of the park with this character driven, fast paced mystery.
FTC Disclosure – The publisher sent me a copy of this book in the hopes I would review it.
Upheaval and changes are making their appearance on the boardwalk. A quick pace and plenty of action. It is always an adventure to be back on the beach with Cass and Beast, and best friends Bee (whose character and loyalty I LOVE) and Stephanie. Something is up with Stephanie and while alluded to thoroughout the entire book, it didn't come into play until the near end. When resolved it added even more to my adoration of Bee. Cass never claims to be truly psychic or able to communicate with ghosts or the "other side." However, if she admits that even she has her doubts, what would that mean for the future of her business, Mystical Musings? When a shadowy person begins to appear in Cass' dreams, and customers related to this vision come looking for answers, Cass herself is beginning to feel a bit heebie jeebie. Danger is dropped right on her doorstep, crashing through her main window, when she can't allow the police to investigate alone after Beast uncovers major evidence of foul play. Beast adds some lighter emotional moments to the tale. I continue to look forward to this series with each new book.
I have truly enjoyed each volume in this exceptional murder psychic series. As for the latest? I simply loved it! The tale was filled with murder, mayhem, friendships, relationships, gun fights, police involvement and dialog with characters that are easily remembered.
Cass is a psychologist who now earns her living as a psychic. Her live-in best friend is Beast, a lionberger dog. Do look up the breed, they are amazing dogs. Cass' other best friends are Stephanie and Bee. Their friendships are amazing and gratifying to visit through these pages.
Cass is suddenly aware that her 'visions' may be the real thing. Not just her ability to 'read' persons, but true contact with the other side. Beast and Cass suddenly find bones. The police tell Cass to not get involved, but what can a person due when two ghosts or visions keep appearing to her and ask for 'help?' Honestly, what is a girl to do?
The story gets more intense as angry men come in for readings. Shots ring out and Cass begins to question her sanity. This book had so many layers it was splendid reading.
This novel was a cozy with an edge. I can't wait for the next installment.
Bay Island psychic Cass Donovan has been having dreams about a female ghost who keeps asking her to "help me." Not sure who the woman is or even if she is real, Cass finds a skeleton on the beach leading to another body of a female. Prior to finding the body, Cass did a reading from a bereaved father looking for his lost . daughter. Cass believes the body on the beach could be this man's daughter so of course she decides to investigate. Joined by her best friend Bee, a giant gray man and her friend Stephanie as well as Stephanie's husband Tank a police officer, the gang decides to discuss the case and see if someone is hiding something. Several people look like they have something to hide. When Cass and her friends are attacked, Cass has to decide if she should pursue the case or to leave it to the police. Will they be able to figure out who the dead body is? Will they catch they murderer? This was an excellent cozy mystery filled with small town charm, goofy yet loveable characters and a big dog named Beast whose shenanigans will make you laugh out loud. You will love reading this book as much as I did.
Cozy mysteries are exactly what they sound: something to get comfortable with and dive in to escape. Clairvoyant and Present Danger is just that with a little thrill thrown in. There's a twist in every chapter, and I do mean every. Just when you think the story is starting to wind down, it doesn't.
I've not read the earlier books in the series but they are standalones so that helps any new readers. The characters are fun, believeable, and good. I'm not much of a believer in the occult but the subject is treated so well that you do not have to believe to believe the storyline. In fact, it's humourous in that the main character, Cass, doesn't always believe in her own abilities. That provides great background and a deeper insight into our heroine.
The mystery itself kept me guessing until the end when all the loose ends come together well. There's a romance blooming in the future that gets a good start, and the trials of Cass and Beast the dog are laugh out loud funny.
Cass definitely has an interesting occupation, psychic medium, this is the first one I've read in this series thus I am not completely up on her backstory but there's enough revealed to make it clear that she's fairly new at her work and has some baggage in the romance department. This leaves room for her to grow and it will be interesting to see what happens with her abilities and love life.
How she works reminded me of Long Island Medium, Theresa Caputo, and the setting is right next to Long Island, so there's that. I think that the setting, a shop on the beach, and her work each provide plenty of opportunity for interaction with a lot of different people, aka suspects and murderers. Her companions, new romantic interest, and the police all seem to be interesting the most developed is Bee but there's more potential with him and the others.
The mystery was not fully revealed until the end and I enjoyed that. I'll look for the other books in this series.
I really enjoyed the third installment of Lena Gregory's "Bay Island Psychic Mystery" series. Even though I was worried I would not. For some reason I enjoy paranormal, but not in my cozy. One of the reasons I have enjoyed this series so much is because it was not full of "woo-woo". When I saw Cass was going to be involved with a spirit I was a bit worried. I was pleasantly relieved at the wonderful way the author deals with it and may actually be ok with a ghost or two in my cozy if they are written as well as this one. I love the characters in this series and they just keep getting better. I love their interaction and the development that is on going. A well written mystery that kept me guessing till the end. And if all that is not enough, there is BEAST! Who doesn't love Beast. Another great read from talented author Lena Gregory
Such a great series!! This is the third in a series of the Bay Island Psychic Mysteries by Lena Gregory. It continues the story Cass a former psychiatrist who runs a psychic shop. She uses her great talents of observation to "read" people. Her friends Stephanie an accountant married to a local policeman, Tank, and Bee an openly gay fashion designer are her constant support as she once again stumbles across a dead body, this time on a beach. She is often hindered by her beloved but VERY untrained Leonberger dog. In this story Cass begins to doubt her own story of not actually being psychic just observant. Too many strange things are happening, bad "dreams" are haunting her. Her interactions with her customers are touching and uplifting. This is such a wonderful series, always a great mystery, fast paced and jsut plain great.
This was an intriguing book. Cass has been having nightmares/seeing visions of a woman lately. The woman leads her to find a dead body and then the police find another dead body. The ghost woman keeps asking for help, but Cass can’t figure out what it is the woman wants. I think that that was a very intriguing book and I enjoyed reading it very much. It’s fun to see Cass realize that she may have instincts/powers that she never knew she had. I hope to see more books in this series to see where it goes and see what happens with Luke and Cass, but if there aren’t any more, I’m glad I got to read the three of them that are in the series. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a little bit of paranormal with their cozy mystery!
Clairvoyant and Present Danger by Lena Gregory is the 3rd installment of her Bay Island Psychic Mystery series. I really had fun reading this book. This series has all I look for in a paranormal cozy mystery; bodies being discovered, ghosts appearing, best friends sticking together no matter what comes. And a possibility of romance. I loved it.
I liked it and thought it was good. It started too slow for my reading habits but got better once the book got rolling. I have not read this author before or the other two books which precede this one. I was not sure which way the book would take clairvoyance and the supernatural. Characters are likable, including the dog, and the strong friendship between the best friends comes across. Some past experiences were mentioned which I am guessing happened in book one or two but did not detract from this story standing alone.
I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Cass does a reading for a man who wants to find his estranged missing daughter turns into something more. Soon she will find a skeleton and will become victimized by a killer. Will she be able to find the killer before she becomes the next target?
Welcome to a world of ghosts and paranormal existence. A moving read with an interesting plot.
So many secrets floating around this time with all the characters as the plot twists & turns. The plot is a clever mixture of intrigue & mystery with paranormal overtones. Cass’ beast of a dog, appropriately named Beast, provides protection plus comic relief. Friends Bee, Stephanie, & Tank are also there for her for support physically & emotionally. I had a hard time putting this down!
