A Java Jive Mystery #5

Murder Over Mochas

Rate this book
As a newly minted private eye, Juliet Langley has sworn to leave homicide to the authorities, limiting the scope of her investigations to cheating spouses and dirty business partners . . . like her ex-fiancé, Scott O'Malley. When Scott shows up unannounced at her coffeehouse, Java Jive, Juliet's first instinct is to punch him in the nose. Her second is to turn down his desperate plea for help with a case that's way too dangerous for her liking. But when Scott drops dead before her eyes, Juliet isn't going to wait around for someone else to clear her name.
It's only a matter of time before her tumultuous past with her ex-fiancé comes out, so Juliet teams up with her ex-boyfriend, police detective Ryder Hamilton, to figure out who poisoned Scott. They soon confirm that Scott was involved in an illegal scheme that's definitely grounds for concern.
Just as romance is finally beginning to percolate for Juliet and her best friend, Pete Bennett, she has no choice but to head back to her hometown to seek out the truth. And she'll need help from the locals to find the real killer—otherwise her happily ever after could easily end up including an actual ball and chain.

Juliet finds her self up to her eyeballs in coffee grounds and murder, again. Just because things between her and Pete are as unsettled as ever, she can still rely on her "best friend" to help her out of her current predicament. I absolutely love it when Juliet's Red-Headed She Devil comes out and she comes out in a big way when her ex shows up. She's out and Juliette is accused of murder and Pete of being her partner in crime. The only way to clear their names is to discover what really happened and why. And, Juliet gets a hand from her cousin, Melinda Fairholz, and Melinda's best friend, Lizzie Hart, in Liberty, IN

"Murder Over Mochas" the latest in what is a very funny cozy mystery series. It doesn't disappoint and the how and why of the crime, not to mention the who, keep you guessing to the end. I especially love how Juliet has chosen to get over Ryder and it's not with her faithful best friend, Pete. Although, Pete is acting very unbest friendish, but Juliette hasn't got a clue.

The RedHeaded She Devil has returned!!!!
Juliet Langley finds her former ex-fiancé just
walked into the Java Jive coffeehouse.
Without a thought the RedHeaded She Devil
( Juliet's nickname when she loses her cool )
lands a blow right into his face!!!
Her ex-fiancé fleeced Juliet out of all her money
and personal belongings running off and marrying
the head waitress of the cafe they had owned
jointly.
Now he is requesting for Juliet's help in finding
his missing wife plus he tells her he uncovered
something that has put him in a dangerous
situation then he falls over DEAD.
Now Juliet is the prime suspect.
In addition to being manager of the Java Jive
coffeehouse, Juliet is a licensed private investigator
with singing and song writing abilities.
With the help of her friends, Juliet sets out to
solve the murder and clear her name.
You will enjoy her humorous escapades filled with
danger, suspense, kickbacks, illegal use of various
pharmaceutical samples, intrigue plus murder.
While trying to put together the pieces of the murder
mystery, Juliet runs into a lot of twists and turns
that complicate her efforts. Great plot and subplots.
The reader will enjoy spending time with the feisty
red head, her old and new romantic situations and
her supporting cast.
The characters are well created, well defined,
colorful and zany.
This is book # 5 in A Java Jive Mystery series. It
can be read as a stand alone.
Great entertaining, highly recommend read.
I volunteered to read the Advanced Reader Copy.

“Murder Over Mochas” earns 5/5 Clever Karma Conclusions!

I am new to Caroline Fardig’s Java Jive Mystery series, so when I was given the opportunity to read book five, apparently the final book in the series, I immediately sat down with my own frothy Mocha and was thrilled right off! Caroline started the adventure with “ex-boyfriend turned friend” Ryder (seems an oxymoron, but a very delightful dynamic) inviting Juliet Langley to a gun and knife show…Wouldn’t that be a better invitation for his current girlfriend and Juliet’s BFF Maya (another interesting dynamic, but it works)? But, it’s when ex-fiancé Scott pops into the Java Jive Coffeehouse asking for her help, he gets a fist in the face…OK, that’s more like it! I couldn’t stop turning the pages! Juliet, coffeehouse manager/amateur investigator, should have controlled her self better because that outburst and her history of being abandoned, left broke, stolen from, and holding the reins of a failing business puts her on the suspect list when Scott ends up dead. She’s got motive with a capital “M,” but murder?

Caroline Fardig has penned a delightfully engaging story with well-developed characters, clever mystery with ample clues, twists and turns to keep you guessing to the end, and more than a few giggles…it’s a purse! LOL! I really like Juliet and her band of exes and friends, and the relationship with her quiet indulgence Cooper, 23-year-old psych grad student. All are realistic, quirky at times, but definitely entertaining. The details behind the investigation seem right out of the headlines leading the group to the dark side of pharmaceuticals, kidnapping of the victim’s wife, and more ‘nail-biting’ personal jeopardy, but the twists and turns and clues all pop up due to Caroline’s writing an effective investigative style for Juliet. I really enjoyed this book, but I’m not done as I am eager to read the rest of the series as prequels…

Easy to read, attention-holding and a wonderful way to take a break from my usual shoot-'em-up, gore-filled action books: That's my take on this fun book that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. If there's a downside, it appears to be the last in a five-book series that I wish I'd started from the beginning (although this one stands on its own just fine).

Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of cozy mysteries - but for one primary reason: It seems to be the rule that the heroine be downright obnoxious. She goes off on her own, never paying any attention to anyone - as well as the kind of woman who, when chased by a bad guy with a knife, turns left into the dark alley instead of heading toward the well-lit, people-filled street to the right.

Not so here. In fact, I quite liked Juliet Langley, a sometime musician and self-appointed private detective who manages Java Jive, a coffeehouse in Nashville. She's intelligent, assertive but not pushy, and actually listens to the counsel of friends (and yes, even police officers) before going off the deep end. That's not to say she doesn't have emotions, though; in fact, she's got plenty. For starters, she still hasn't come totally to grips with losing her romance with town police detective, Ryder Hamilton, who switched to her best friend and PI-business partner, Maya. She's also got mixed feelings about her current, much younger go-to guy, and conjures up visions of getting together with long-time friend and coffeehouse owner Pete. Mostly, though, she's furious with her former fiance, Scott O'Malley, who ran off with another woman, cleaning out their bank accounts and causing the downfall of the coffeehouse in Juliet's home town of Liberty, Indiana, that she and Scott co-owned (yes, it does seem she's run through an excess of male companions over a very short period of time, but then that's not necessarily a bad thing).

Needless to say, Scott's totally unexpected appearance at the Nashville shop took both her and Pete by surprise - so much so that she punches him in the nose - and when he begs Juliet to use her PI skills to find his missing wife Mandi (the one he dumped Juliet to be with), she's dumbfounded. She's flat-out gobsmacked, though, when he drops dead right in the middle of the shop. When it's determined that he may have been poisoned, the local police become aware of the hostility Juliet's harboring toward the victim and consider her a person of interest at the very least.

With her reputation at stake, Juliet is intent on clearing her name and sees no alternative except to take the investigation into her own hands; somewhat reluctantly, Ryder agrees to help. The place to start, they agree, is in Liberty - just a couple of hours from Nashville - where they quickly learn that Scott and his wife are "drug dealers" (a.k.a. pharmaceutical reps). Despite the potential for better-than-decent income, though, it's pretty clear they're living lives of luxury well beyond their means.

Are the drugs in any way connected to Scott's untimely death or his wife's sudden disappearance? If she's been kidnapped, is she still alive - and can they find her in time to prevent a worst-case scenario? Of course, I can't reveal the answers - but I will say it was a real treat finding them for myself. I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for allowing me to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Oh yes - a personal note that gave this book extra-special interest to me: Like Juliet and the author, I'm Hoosier born (but Buckeye bred). Even more coincidentally is that I grew up in Union City - less than an hour northeast of Liberty. My favorite shopping excursions were to nearby Richmond, where for a time my late father - "Buckeye Poet" Harold Pickett (a.k.a. "Slim Acres") taught Business Law at the Ivy Tech Community College campus.

I have been a fan of this series since the beginning but I think this is my favorite book to date. Juliet is such a wonderful main characters. She is smart, funny, sarcastic, and feisty. The cast of regular secondary characters make their return appearances and we finally have a resolution to Jules' romantic life. I also liked how Ms. Fardig crossed over with her Lizzie Hart Mystery series, introducing readers to those characters.

The mystery in this book was fast paced and kept me guessing until the very end. There was so much going on and so many suspects that the twists and turns kept me on my toes. The mystery was wrapped up nicely with Jules and Pete managing to save themselves.

This series has well crafted mysteries filled with wonderful, quirky and interesting characters. If you haven't had the chance to give this series a try, I recommend it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

OMG! Loved this one! I've enjoyed this series immensely from the start. This is the fifth book. I highly recommend this if you're a cozy mystery fan. So glad this book came to fruition.

Juliet Langley is an awesome protagonist. A long-ago ex shows up and drops dead in Java Jive. Now, Juliet is the prime suspect and must do all she can to find the real killer. Her best friend Pete, along with some other great characters, are there to help her solve this case.

I don't want to give any spoilers, but I sure did a happy dance with this book. Fans of this series will have to read this one, and new readers should start with the first book. This is a series you don't want to miss. You'll probably fall for these characters as much as I did.

More like 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

I decided I wanted a to take a break from my usual fantasy, science fiction, and psychological thriller reads so I settled on the cozy mystery, Murder Over Mochas by Caroline Fardig. I have to admit that the title and the cute cover were what initially drew me in, but I was also intrigued by the storyline. I settled into my favorite reading chair and proceeded to devour the book in just a couple of sittings. The story, which is book #5 in the Java Jive mystery series, follows Juliet Langley, a coffeehouse manager who is also a private investigator. Juliet is working at the coffeehouse one evening when her ex-fiance Scott O’Malley shows up unannounced, begging to see her. Outraged because she hasn’t seen Scott since he dumped her and took basically everything she owned, including all of her money, Juliet immediately punches Scott in the face and has absolutely zero interest in hearing what he has to say.

Finally, she relents, and over a cup of coffee, Scott tells Juliet that he is in deep trouble with some dangerous people who have kidnapped his wife, Mandi (who is of course the woman Scott left Juliet for). Mid-conversation, Scott suddenly keels over and drops dead right in front of Juliet. When preliminary test results indicate Scott was probably poisoned, Juliet realizes that her tumultuous past with Scott, along with the fact that she practically attacked him in front of a roomful of people, is going to automatically put her at the top of the list of suspects. So she sets out, with the help of another ex-boyfreind, police detective Ryder Hamilton, to figure out what has really been happening with Scott and if someone actually poisoned him.

Will Juliet be able to solve the mystery and clear her name or will Scott continue to screw her over from beyond the grave, sending her to prison for a crime she didn’t commit? And can her budding romance with coffeehouse owner, Pete, survive the chaos and drama that Scott’s death brings into their lives?

* * * * *

I don’t want to say too much else about the plot because I don’t want to give away any details that would spoil the mystery, so I’ll just say that this was a fun and quick read for me. It was the perfect read to curl up with in my favorite reading chair and I will definitely keep this series in mind the next time I’m looking for a light and entertaining mystery.

Okay, on to some highlights…

LIKES

I really enjoyed the main character, Juliet. She is feisty, independent, and very resourceful. I was hooked on Juliet from the opening scene of the book when her ex shows up and she immediately punches him in the face. Juliet gets herself into several humorous scrapes along the way, but thinks fast enough on her feet, thankfully, to get herself out of trouble most of the time. In that sense, Juliet actually reminded me a lot of Stephanie Plum from the series of the same name, who is one of my favorite mystery heroines. They’re both kickass and yet hilarious at the same time.

I loved the author’s writing style as well. It’s very conversational, with lots of witty banter between the characters, and I just found myself effortlessly pulled through all of the twists and turns of the story.

The romance was handled well too. Those who follow my reviews know that I don’t like it when a romance takes over and distracts from the rest of the storyline. In the case of Murder Over Mochas, the romance is clearly there but it isn’t heavy-handed at all. Instead, it is skillfully woven in so as to complement the mystery storyline rather than distract from it.

DISLIKES/ISSUES

The only real issue I had with Murder Over Mochas was that although the book technically works as a standalone even though it’s part of a series, I just would have liked more information about each of the characters. I felt like there were details about their backstories that I was missing, and that with those details, it would have been an even more enjoyable read than it was. I especially would have liked to see more of the early interactions between Juliet and Pete. That would have made it a solid 4 star read for me.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you’re into cozy mysteries or just want a quick, light mystery with a touch of romance and humor, I’d definitely say Murder Over Mochas is worth a read. If you’re like me and think you’d want more backstory, maybe consider starting at the beginning of the series and working your way to this one. I think any of them would make excellent weekend or vacation reads.

Thanks so much to Caroline Fardig, Random House Publishing Group - Alibi, and to Netgalley for allowing me to preview this book. It in no way shapes my opinion.

This is the fifth and final book in the Java Jive mystery series by Caroline Fardig. This series is so good it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if she added five more books to the mix. Just love it that much!

Basic premise: Juliet has finally gotten her private investigator’s license and her detective friend, Ryder is working with her and his new girlfriend Maya for her PI firm. Juliet’s old flame, Scott, who was responsible for her losing her last business after he stole all her money, wants her help. Her response is “Yeah, right.” But then he ends up dead after being poisoned and of course, Juliet has tons of motive to want him out of her life for good. So she has to prove her innocence since her detective friend, a different guy, is on vacation and Ryder is sort of on the outs with the department after the hijinks from the last book.

This book finally has Juliet dealing with all her feelings about Pete, her boss at Java Jive and what she really wants out of life. She revisits her hometown and a few characters from one of Fardig’s other series makes a cameo appearance. This definitely makes you want to check them out just so you have something to move onto since this is the last book in the Java Jive series, much to my dismay. Did I mention that I really need five more books in this series? :)

The previous book was one of my favorites but this one really wraps it all up nicely dealing with all the loose threads and puts Juliet in a nice place to move forward in her life.

If you love a good cozy mystery, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

It is a peaceful morning at the Java Java. Scott, Juliet ex-boyfriend enters the place. Upon seeing him the "Red Hair Devil" emerges and Juliet promptly punched him in the nose. Her friends stopped her before she can hit Scott again. He wants to talk with Juliet but she refused to talk with him. Scott returns in the evening. He asked Juliet to help him as there is none he can trust. His wife has been kidnapped. He is ill and dies after drinking coffee and water Pete brought him. A new homicide detective caught the case and decided that Juliet and Pete are guilty. Juliet decided she must clear Pete's and her name. MUCH of the story takes place in her hometown. Pharmaceuticals, kickbacks, greed, and jealousy are found before Juliet succeeded to find an answer. I highly recommend this book and series.

Murder Over Mochas by Caroline Fardig is the best in the series!
From the very beginning, the story grabs your attention and it just keeps getting better and better.
Juliet Langley is such a great character, she is strong, independent and she loves with her whole heart.
She has grown more and more in each and every book and this story portrays her in such a way that you can't help but love her.
This story involves a blast from her past and tangles her in a web of deceit, revenge and lies.

Fans of this series will be excited to read Murder Over Mochas which releases on October 24, 2017.

Investigation is the best in the series to date. Episode # 5 just may be the final in the series as Juliet comes to decisions in this episode of Java Jive Mysteries.

Scott, Juliet's ex who stole everything from her including the music box Pete gave her, arrives at the coffee house begging for help to find his kidnapped wife. Juliet & Pete find themselves involved investigating Scott's death. Unethical business practices in pharmaceutical sales drag Ryder into helping Juliet back in her hometown and reprising his Seth personna.

Does she chose Ryder or Pete? Does she pursue her P.I. license or her music? Does she remain at Java Jive or move out and potentially move on?

I volunteered to read an ARC from Alibi through Net Galley.

I love the Java Jive series!
Caroline Fardig delivers a great plot filled with twists and humorous moments.
I was hooked from the first chapter, and it was difficult to put down.
In this installment, the author gives us a glimpse of the characters from her other cozy-mystery series set in Juliette's home town (Liberty).
Would definitely recommend it to any cozy-mystery fan.

Business is good at Nashville's Java Jive Coffeehouse where Juliet Langley is the manager and her "best friend" Pete Bennett is the owner. Her fledgling second career as a PI keeps her busy and she is even making progress toward overcoming the crippling stage fright that destroyed her singing career. What could go wrong, right? Trouble comes in the form of Scott O'Malley, Juliet's former fiance who left her high and dry. Scott not only left her for a waitress that worked at the coffeehouse the two co-owned, he cleaned out the bank accounts and emptied their apartment of belongings. The business also failed, bringing Juliet back to Nashville. No wonder the sight of him strolling into Java Jive prompts Juliet to punch him in the nose. He gives her a garbled story of the waitress he dumped her for (and later married) being kidnapped. He has heard she is a PI and asks her to help him find her. Too bad that he drops dead after drinking a mocha that she served him. Now Juliet is the prime suspect.

Murder over Mochas feels like the end of this humorous series. Questions are answered, and the long-simmering attraction between Pete and Juliet comes to a satisfactory conclusion. I have enjoyed all the books and recommend it for a quick read with lots of laughs. Thanks to NetGalley and Alibi for an advance digital copy. The opinions are my own.

I want to give a huge thank you to Random House Publishing Group-Alibi and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis: Juliet Langley is a PI and manages a coffeehouse in Nashville named Java Jive. She's smart, independent and cares about her friends and their opinions. Juliet does have a lot difficult emotions about previous relationships that have caused her a good bit of pain. She is still  having a hard time with her breakup with the town detective, Ryder Hamilton. Her biggest trial though has been her breakup with ex fiance Scott who ran off with another woman and cleaned out their bank accounts. What an asshat! So, it's a huge surprise when Scott shows up at Java Jive begging for Juliet's help to find his missing wife. What's even more surprising is suddenly Scott drops dead right in the middle of the coffee shop!!! With Juliet's reputation on the line will she be able to clear her name of murder? Will she be able to find Scott's murderer? Read this book to find out.

Review: I loved this cozy and loved Juliet Langley! I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book is part of a series but it states it can be read as a standalone and I felt that it was okay that I didn't read the previous ones. Sometimes you can feel like your missing out on characters when you read them out of order but this one was good as a standalone. This book was fun and full of adventure. Highly recommended!

Thank you to publisher Alibi and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book. Although this book is the fourth or fifth in the series, it's the first I've read, and so this is a standalone review.

Murder Over Mochas is a modern cozy mystery that I think will especially appeal to younger readers (35 and younger). Many, many cozy mysteries, even those set in present day, somehow feel rooted in the past and conjure up a lifestyle that has long gone by. Murder over Mochas, by comparison, feels fresh and updated. The main character is vibrant, and the story boasts an interesting and solidly thought out plot.

Less appealing was the dialogue, and especially the interrogations, which often came across as unnatural. There were also at least four past, present, and future romantic entanglements for the main character introduced within the first 15 pages of the book, and that was simply too many. One in particular did not contribute to the storyline in a meaningful way, and could be cut.

In general though, I think the book will entertain most fans of the cozy genre.

These Java Jive books are just magical! Fun, mysterious, romantic and well written. I drop everything else on my TBR pile to read these when one become available and it is worth it. The lively cast of characters and the storyline that keeps me interested because you never know what will happen to Juliet yet, make these a must read. This one did have a little different feel as Juliet made some very important life decisions, while solving the murder of her ex-fiancé with her bestie Pete and ex-boyfriend Ryder. I feel so invested in these characters and their growing/changing relationships which adds to the excitement of reading the book; wanting to know what will happen to them all next! The wit that is infused into the writing is one of my favorite things and this book also incorporated a few familiar faces to those who have read Fardig's other works. I recommend this entire series to anyone who wants a good mystery, good relationships and fun read! Thank you netgalley!

Murder Over Mochas
Java Jive, Book #5
Caroline Fardig
5 Stars

Synopsis:

A blast from the past gets Nashville PI and coffeehouse manager Juliet Langley in hot water in this explosive mystery from the USA Today bestselling author of Death Before Decaf.

As a newly minted private eye, Juliet Langley has sworn to leave homicide to the authorities, limiting the scope of her investigations to cheating spouses and dirty business partners . . . like her ex-fiancé, Scott O’Malley. When Scott shows up unannounced at her coffeehouse, Java Jive, Juliet’s first instinct is to punch him in the nose. Her second is to turn down his desperate plea for help with a case that’s way too dangerous for her liking. But when Scott drops dead before her eyes, Juliet isn’t going to wait around for someone else to clear her name.

It’s only a matter of time before her tumultuous past with her ex-fiancé comes out, so Juliet teams up with her ex-boyfriend, police detective Ryder Hamilton, to figure out who poisoned Scott. They soon confirm that Scott was involved in an illegal scheme that’s definitely grounds for concern.

Just as romance is finally beginning to percolate for Juliet and her best friend, Pete Bennett, she has no choice but to head back to her hometown to seek out the truth. And she’ll need help from the locals to find the real killer—otherwise her happily ever after could easily end up including an actual ball and chain.

Review:

Juliet is a spunky, sarcastic, big hearted woman who will do anything to help her family or friends. And that includes her ex-fiance who cheated on her and stole all of her money. When he shows up at Java Jive, the coffee shop that she manages, after she punches him she wants to help him. But there is little she can do for him when he keels over and dies. Now with the help of her friends she has to find the real killer before she finds herself behind bars.

The characters are well rounded and well developed. I really like all of the characters in this book and love spending time with them. Juliet surrounds herself with caring loving friends that will always pitch in and help whenever she needs it. I think that the relationship between her and Pete, her boss and best friend, is special and exceptional. They know each other so well and really care about each other and will do anything to help each other. They are like an old married couple, bickering and bantering with each other but never forgetting how much they mean to each other.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is able to create suspense with just the written and I found myself turning pages well into the night, when I should have been sleeping. The mystery was well written and carried on well throughout the entire book. There were enough suspects to consider and clues to uncover that solving this mystery was no easy task. Thrown in some red herrings and enough twists and turns to make a rollercoaster proud and you have a five star mystery.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you like engaging characters, a difficult mystery and humor, this is a must read book.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Alibi for the opportunity to read and review this fantastic book.

Caroline Fardig’s newest and, in my opinion, strongest of her Java Jive Mysteries, Murder Over Mochas, is quite entertaining and enjoyable. While I don’t know if this is the case, this book has the feel of a final book in a series, completing different arcs and seeing the maturing of Juliet Langley. She is still juggling attractions to a bevy of men but her heart, as always, belongs to her longtime best friend, Pete Bennett. This has been a recurring theme throughout the series, sometimes frustratingly so.

Juliet’s much despised, low-life ex, Scott O’Mallery appears at Java Jive, the coffee shop that Juliet runs, and she promptly punches him in the nose. This isn’t a good thing when he later drops dead at Java Jive while in a conversation with her and Pete, who are now in the sites of Detective Tom Delaney, an almost too stereotypically dense cop determined to pin Scott’s death on Juliet and Pete. With their freedom at risk, Juliet and Pete decide to solve the crime, rules be damned. And they do break some rules along the way. Ryder Hamilton, one of Juliet’s exes, lends a good deal of support throughout the story.

I like that much of the book takes place away from Java Jive as Juliet, Pete and Ryder travel to Juliet’s hometown of Liberty, Indiana in an effort to solve the crime. While in Liberty, they receive help from Blake Morgan and Lizzie Hart, who are apparently featured in a different series by Caroline Fardig. There are several other characters, some of note, others as diversion. The book featured enough twists and a couple of particularly well-laid clues to keep the reader guessing and entertained.

This is a solid mystery and I absolutely recommend it to anyone who is a fan of this series and to anyone who enjoys a cozy mystery. This book is a standalone novel but a reader will probably appreciate it more if the reader has read the previous entries in the series. Juliet is a likable character and, in this particular book, doesn’t take ridiculous chances, something which has annoyed this reader in past books. I am hoping there will be future books in this series. Four and a half stars.

I was given a free copy of this book by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions stated are solely my own.

Juliet Langley new PI is looking forward to sticking to cheating husbands and dirty business partners. She is swearing off homicide detecting, that is until her ex-fiance shows up at the coffee shop and falls over dead having been poison. Juliet must work fast to clear her and her boss Pete from the accusation of murder. The police detective is wanting an open and shut case with all fingers pointing to Juliet and Pete. As she works to clear their names romance blooms in unexpected places.

In an Oyster Shell - Another great addition to the series, my favorite yet!

The Pearls - The backstory in this book was extensive without bogging down the overall story. Juliet's knee-jerk reaction to her good for nothing ex-fiance is interesting to the story. A lot of history comes into play showing her in a new light.

The characters in this story are shining stars. I like Juliet much better in this story than I did in previous books. She's calmed down a lot and her relationship with Peter helps a lot. Peter is a little bolder in this book making the dynamic between the two even more interesting.

I like the romance. Pete finally gets his chance and Juliet is calmed down enough to receive it. Like I mentioned earlier this is my favorite installment of the series and the romance had a lot to do with it.

Princess Fuzzypants here:
I have have been a fan of the Java Jive series right from the first book. Juliette is an intriguing heroine who manages to be feisty and smart even if she does stumble into one calamity after another. It’s been fun reading about the on again off again threesome of Jules, her best friend Pete and her former boyfriend Ryder. I won’t give away who it is but she finally makes a decision but not until she is neck deep in murder again.
This time it is her ex who not only stole her money and her things, he stole her dreams and confidence. The creep shows up at Java Jive and then has the temerity to expire in front of Jules. Since Juliette has never hidden her justifiable anger, she becomes the prime suspect and Pete, by virtue of his proximity, is also under suspicion. Time for Jules to trot out her newly acquired PI skills. With Ryder’s help, all three investigate why someone, other than Jules, might want to poison him.
By the time the murderer is under arrest, much of the interpersonal dynamics of the series has shifted. It is going to be interesting to see where it goes since that romantic tension was such a pivotal part of the stories.
I give it five purrs and two paws up.

This is a great book; this is the fifth book in the Java Jive Mystery Series written by Caroline Fardig. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

3.5 stars review.

Okay… This is the 5th book in the series. As this is a cosy mystery series, the mystery is, and always was, the focus of the book. The romance, as tangled up as it is, was a background. Though for me, a very noisy background.

I loved the mystery story here. Scott, Juliet’s ex-fiancé that ran of with other woman and took all her money, arrived in town asked for help. And promptly dead in the coffee shop Juliet managed. The story ensued was so captivating and intriguing that I really wanted to know where the mystery went. So good.

However, I almost gave this book 3 stars review due the noisy background I mentioned above. Juliet feeling and act toward men around her was getting old fast. This is already in 5th book yet she went nowhere with it. I know real life could, maybe mostly, like that. But this is fiction! I hoped for decisive heart for once. It’s OK for the first 3 books, but 5 books? Not for me.

Well, the mystery was really good though. So 3.5 stars was fair.

I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher through NetGalley, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.

The main characters Juliette and Pete are best friends and both work at Java Jive. Juliette's heart was broken and she almost lost ownership of Java Jive when her ex-boyfriend Scott, ran off with her money. Then he walks back into her life and she isn't happy to see him. Well, Scott ends up dead at Java Jive and Juliette and Pete are prime suspects in a murder investigation.

Taking things into their own hands, Juliette and Pete decide to find out who the real murderer is. The bodies keep piling up and they find themselves being hunted for something they don't have any idea what it is.

Murder Over Mochas A Java Jive Mystery is a roller-coaster ride of a mystery with lots of quirky humor thrown in. Lots of surprises and a very enjoyable list of characters. It kept me well entertained.

I received an advance reader copy from Net Galley and I voluntarily chose to review it.

I simply adore the Java Jive series! From the very start of book one I was engrossed and fully invested in Pete’s and Juliet’s story. As each additional book has come out I’ve eagerly devoured it and fell more in love with the returning characters. Their ups and downs- there are so many of the downs! Juliet's uncanny ability to always find herself embroiled in a new, murderous mystery while still trying to navigate the constant back and forth of her love life never fails to entertain and delight. And Murder Over Mochas was no different. It was such a pleasure to dive between the pages of this book to see how everything played out this time around. I hope there will be more books in this series still to come!

Sincerest thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for granting me this review opportunity.

Honestly, I didn't expect to enjoy this one as much as I did.

I received an e-ARC of Murder Over Mochas courtesy of Netgalley and Alibi Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

The book had a very Nancy Drew vibe which I absolutely loved! I loved reading Nancy Drew as a kid and I really enjoyed reading this one now. The book does set itself apart as the characters are quite a lot more mature, but it did remind me of old days. The book is quite a light read and is more suitable for high school students than it is for a more grown up crowd.

From the synopsis the story sounds simple enough and yet the need to know does want to make you reach the end! The plot was pretty well executed as I didn't really have any suspects till the final reveal which made it all the more interesting!

I didn't know there were more books in the series, but I definitely want to read the rest now.

I am new to this author, and found this book to be an enjoyable read. Juliet manages a coffee house and is also a private detective. Her boss Pete is her best friend. When her ex-fiance unexpectedly shows up, begging for her help and then dies, Juliet and Pete get involved in the case. They were not only the last ones to see Scott alive, but he also had stolen all of Juliet’s money and possessions in the past. Her ex-boyfriend Ryan (a police officer) also gets involved. It brings out many things in the pharmaceutical industry that are very realistic. It has a little more depth than the typical cozy mystery. I think I’ll go back to the beginning and read the entire series.

A big thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author. I did not realize this was the 5th book in the series. It reads fairly well as a stand alone but there are times when you wish you new more of the background. I enjoyed the book. The conclusion was a surprise which I loved!! I hate it when they are to easy to figure 'out. Everything is neatly wrapped up as I think this is the end of this series. Juliet is one busy lady!! I rate this a 3.75. You might want to start from the first book but I think most cozy mystery readers will love this series. Give it a go and let me know.
