The Perfect You: A Blueprint for Identity

Rate this book
There are a lot of personality and intelligence tests out there designed to label you and put you in a particular box. But Dr. Caroline Leaf says there's much more to you than a personality profile can capture. In fact, you cannot be categorized!

In this fascinating book, she takes readers through seven steps to rediscover and unlock their unique "you quotient"--the brilliantly original way each person thinks, feels, relates, and makes choices--freeing them from comparison, envy, and jealousy, which destroy brain tissue. Readers learn to be aware of what's going on in their own minds and bodies, to lean in to their own experience rather than trying to forcefully change it, and to redefine what success means to them. Released from the suffocating box of expectations, they'll embrace their true identity and develop a clear sense of divine purpose in their lives.

Knowing and understanding our identity empowers our choices. Unlocking one's you quotient is not optional--it is essential.

Dr. Caroline Leaf is a cognitive neuroscientist with a PhD in Communication Pathology specializing in Neuropsychology. Since the early 1980‘s she has studied and researched the Mind-Brain connection. During her years in clinical practice as a Communication Pathologist she developed tools and processes that help people develop and change their thinking and subsequent behavior. Her scientific Science of Thought techniques have transformed the lives of patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), learning disabilities, emotional traumas and released the potential of thousands of young students and adults.

She has presented her unique Switch On Your Brain with the 5-Step Learning Process® and the Metacognitive-Map™ learning tool to thousands of students worldwide.

She developed the Geodesic Learning™ theory (how we think and process information) that has been conservatively shown to increase thinking, behavioral and academic performance by 35-75%. This revolutionary theory explains the Science of Thought, stating how thoughts form, how we process information and the power of the non-conscious mind and the relationship between the non-conscious and conscious. It explains that everything you do is first a physical thought in the physical brain. You think, and then you do, which cycles back to the original thought, changing it, and the thoughts connected to it, in a dynamic interrelationship. Therefore if your thinking is toxic, then your communication and behavior are toxic, and vice versa.

She has published numerous articles in academic journals and consumer magazines and has been widely interviewed in newspapers, on radio shows, and on television shows about her research and theories.

She has her own weekly TV show called "Switch On Your Brain" airing on TBN.

She frequently lectures to both Christian and secular audiences worldwide, linking scientific principles of the brain to spiritual, intellectual and emotional issues in simple and practical ways. She speaks on diverse topics relating to optimal thinking, and hence, brain performance, including:

1. Thinking and learning

2. Controlling your thought life

3. Managing stress

4. Eradicating toxic thoughts

5. Overcoming mental, emotional, and spiritual strongholds

6. Understanding male and female brain differences

7. Applying wisdom

8. Identifying your unique gifts

"The Perfect You" picks up where "Switch On Your Brain" left off. Dr. Leaf reveals that our mind is separate from our brain and is actually the "switch" for our brain (the brain is the control center for the entire body). "The Perfect You" applies the principles of quantum physics, neuroplasticity, neurogenisis, and epigenitics in very easy to understand ways (really, she does!) and with real life examples to help readers discover the blueprint of their unique identity. In an era of expanding mental and physical health epidemics, Dr. Leaf's work is a game changer. Additionally, her work is rooted in biblical foundations of love, power, faith, and hope. Her works "Think & Eat Yourself Smart", "Switch On Your Brain", and now "The Perfect You" are interlocking pieces that meet us where we are- in the middle of a battle or at the stages of prevention- and offers help. Her insights flip industry thinking and give literal meaning to the saying "change your mind" cognitively and metacognitively as a way to change the brain, and doing so comes with a host of positive physiological and psychological side effects. Her work focuses on how our body's brilliant engineering (neuroplasticity, neurogenisis, epigenetics, etc) includes an ever-changing brain that is constantly at work changing our lives and the lives of all those around us- for better or worse (..like gravity, which is always at work whether we believe in it or not). She isn't God, but she points to Him as the author of The Perfect You and, whether we know Him or not, her books are a blessing and reflection of His light.

An empowering look at our ability to control the mind and set the course for our thinking, feeling, and choosing. The Perfect You comes along side the reader and provides the necessary information to identify one's strengths and unique features. God's image can be reflected through the individual as intended when that individual's "unique perspective and hope" is shown to the world. Dr. Leaf artfully explains how we are all created to be unique individuals who function best when we allow our experiences to enhance each other and develop a fuller reflection of God's image. The Unique Qualitative Assessment Tool helps to develop a picture of one's "Perfect You." The Discomfort Zones that are outlined in the book are extremely useful and practical to show the reader when the mind is off track and provides examples to take control and return back to functioning within the Perfect You. Practical exercises are also included to take theory to action and application within daily life choices.

I understand what Dr Leaf was trying to achieve in this book: breaking all the personality boxes and having people discover themselves for who God made them to be. But it just wasn’t the book for me. The scientific part went over my head, the journaling exercises became redundant and there were ever so many that I got bogged down and skipped them, and then the summary meant very little since I hadn’t understood the first part or completed the second part.

In The Perfect You, Dr. Leaf explains a key link between science and faith. Specifically how the mind controls the brain, how we were not created by God to live in fear but in love, and that any thought that goes against our inner Perfect You sets us up for toxic thoughts and fear. In order to peel back the layers of programming we've been through in our lives due to the influence of the world, we need to explore and pray about who we were truly created to be. Understanding your Perfect You is essential to unlocking how you think, feel, and choose. It is more than finding your "purpose" it is about finding your God-given self. Each of us has his/her own blueprint. We cannot adopt that of another person or we lose out and we also fail then to do that which God put us specifically on the earth to do. In other words, as Leaf explains, "the world will lose out if you do not operate in your Perfect You; you are a specific part of his reflection, the missing piece that brings a unique perspective and hope to the world. There is no one like you which means there is something you can do that no one else can do."

"Switch on Your Brain" steps you though how to detox your thinking but could only go so far until I found out the unique way in which I think. "The Perfect You" steps you through how to do exactly that. It revealed to me areas that I thought were weaknesses, because of circumstances around me, were actually strengths in how I process information. This has allowed me to think more about what I am thinking about and start to recognize when I am thinking correctly (Perfectly You) or incorrectly (discomfort zone). Thank you Dr. Leaf

There were many good and practical handles I learnt from this book!

What I'd like to immediately apply.:
1. Taking care of others and being compassionate in our times of distress can actually improve our resilience.... hmm
2. How we respond during stressful moments is more important than how frequently we experience stress. So good and useful for me!!

Highly recommended read if you want to change the way you think and live in your prefect you, the way God had intended. :)

I was impressed with this book. It is one thing to intellectually know that God has created each of us as an unique person, but it is quite another to understand, embrace, and live in that uniqueness. This book gives us the tools to understand who we are and move into God's design for us.

There are four parts to the book. Leaf helps us understand who we are in terms of thinking, feeling, and choosing. Then she has a section on the science behind each person's uniqueness. Next is a large section full of questions that is an assessment tool to help us understand our self. The last section has exercises to help us grow our unique self.

Two aspects of the book really impressed me. The first is the section on science. There have been many recent discoveries regarding the brain and behavior and Leaf explains them well. She also incorporates the discoveries into a model for spiritual transformation and renewing the mind.

The second aspect is the idea of discomfort zones. There are areas where we know we are not being who we really are, who God created us to be. That discomfort is a prompt from God. Leaf helps us identify them and then grow our God designed self.

Something else I liked was Leaf's little bit about mindfulness. I've read lots about it and finally understood it when she wrote about developing a mindful awareness which includes being in constant dialogue with the Holy Spirit. (93) The concept finally made sense to me.

The only thing that made this book less than perfect was Leaf writing, “You recognize that who you are is fundamentally good (Gen. 1:31).” (34) That verse represents creation before the sin of Adam and Eve and creation being tainted by sin. Man is born tainted by sin and is not fundamentally good. It is only through belief in Christ that the fundamental sin nature of man is changed.

There is much science in this book and that might intimidate some. I found the material understandable and practical. I like that this book is not a grand personality test, putting us in a certain personality style. Leaf encourages each of us to be our unique self designed by God.

I recommend this book to those who really want to understand who God created you to be, how you might have been pulled away from that being, and how you can grow into God's unique design.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

The perfect guide ! I was always intruiged by how science would fit in the Bible, because many people presume science keeps evolving whereas the Bible doesn't fit into this modern era.Dr.Leaf dispels these facts & draws parallels between the teachings of the Bible and science! There are a lot of exercises to discover our perfect you & how operating in our perfect you brings harmony, peace & love.We are wonderfully & fearfully Made in the hands of a perfect God who guards, directs our lives. The perfect you is a constant dialogue with the Holy Spirit who helps us to discern our everyday life choices. The book is time consuming and there are a lot of points to note.Though the book is time consuming,it is worth all the time in the world

Weird combination of "god loves you" and "here's what we know about the building blocks of personality." Like it couldn't quite decide if you are the way you are because of god's design or your own character development. Has not bad tools for doing self-examination into what you're good at, and a very short list of ways to get better at the things you aren't strong in.

This is simply the updated version of The Gift in You. I was disappointed to see that this was merely an expanded version of The Gift in You. It is written a little better and goes into more detail, but I actually find the assessment in The Gift in You to be better and easier to follow.

I loved “The Perfect You” by Dr. Caroline Leaf! It is a fascinating book about discovering the Perfect You that God designed us to be and focusing on Him which will enable us to love, reach beyond ourselves, and grow into the fullest expression of His design and plan. Dr. Leaf emphasizes that whatever moves into our conscious awareness is what we spend the most time thinking about.

Dr. Caroline Leaf is a cognitive neuroscientist with a Ph.D. in Communication Pathology and a BSc in Logopedics and Audiology, specializing in metacognitive and cognitive neuropsychology. Dr. Leaf is the author of “Switch on Your Brain”, “Who Switched off My Brain?”, “Think & Eat Yourself Smart”, and others. She also hosts her own TV show “The Dr. Leaf Show” on TBN. She is a speaker, lecturer, and writer of magazine journals and periodicals. Her passion is to help people see the power of the mind and the link between science and God as a tangible way of controlling their thoughts and emotions, and find their sense of purpose.

I was amazed at all the affects our toxic thinking can cause to our mental and physical bodies! It is a scientific fact that our mind controls our brain, our brain does not control our mind. Our brains respond to what we do, so we can change our brain, through changing our thoughts, words, and actions.

“The Perfect You” is rich with Dr. Leaf’s expertise of the brain and how our thinking affects our daily lives. She thoroughly explains how the brain functions, the philosophy, and science behind the “Perfect You” and how the “Perfect You” blueprint for identity came to be. It is based on God being our focus, and living out the purpose He uniquely designed for each one of us to reflect His glory.
In Dr. Caroline Leaf’s words, “The Perfect You is how you uniquely and specifically feel, and how you uniquely and specifically choose. Our thinking is designed to reflect his image since we have the mind of Christ.” When asked why people should know their Perfect You, her reply is, “knowing your Perfect You will unlock you and set you free to be you, a particular reflection of the Creator, which fulfills your sense of purpose, increasing your intelligence and your joy in the process.”

I will admit this is a bit of a heavy read, but so worth it! Dr. Leaf mentions that this is a serious book, and it is serious business requiring serious consideration. As I read “The Perfect You” it all made so much sense! I believe that God designed each one of us to be unique and to collectively live out His purpose in this broken world and to live out the fruits of His spirit. It is a book you want to take the time to read to digest all the valuable information and powerful truths within it and then begin doing the work to bring about the freedom of change, to be more Christ-like.

Dr. Leaf has included her UQ Profile (Unique Qualitative Assessment Tool) which was structured from her Geodesic Information Processing Model that she developed thirty years ago. It is a series of questions that you answer and then summarize to discover your own “Perfect You” blueprint identity, the one God destined for us to live out. Dr. Leaf includes fascinating charts, checklists, exercises, and diagrams all geared to successfully live out our “Perfect You”. She gives the tools and information needed to discover and understand our blueprint and then how to apply it and change our lives. One of the exercises in the book is to become mindfully aware of our thinking, feeling, choosing, words, behaviors, and habits. I loved her list of Spiritual Elements of the Discomfort Zones. Fascinating!

Some of my favorite quotes in “The Perfect You” by Dr. Caroline Leaf:

“Your Perfect You sets you free to be who you are and to do what you love. Operating in your Perfect You brings satisfaction and contentment. It reveals your kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control (Gal.5:22-23). It is hopeful—it never gives up, enduring through every circumstance.”

“We were created to reflect the glory of God into the world and reflect the praises of creation back to God.”

“We need to develop the same mindset as Christ so that we create realities that are in alignment with God’s plan to bring heaven to earth.”

“When we learn to focus on our God, who is love, and what he says about us, we learn how to embrace our unique identity and discover who we truly are in him. (1 John 4:8). We have, after all, his love, power, and a sound mind. (2 Tim. 1:7)!

“The Perfect You” really woke me up to how I have been living my life. It also answered many questions I have asked myself about my life experiences. I want to live out the life the Lord predestined for me. I want to be the best version of myself, which is how the Lord designed me to be. I know these changes will take time, but I am already starting this journey of living in my Perfect You. Thank you, Dr. Leaf, for writing this amazing book, rich with powerful truths, scripture, research, and scientific facts, merging science with faith.

The Perfect You: A Blueprint For Identity by Dr. Caroline Leaf is a very unique personal assessment tool. Dr. Leaf has formulated a method by which to discover your own uniqueness as God's masterpiece and to help yourself become more in alignment with that uniqueness in everyday situations.

Not for those seeking easy answers, quick fixes, and simple "to do" lists, this book is a very thorough scientific exploration of what makes each of us unique in the way that we create and store knowledge to gain our own perspective and interpretation of life as we perceive it. Dr. Leaf reveals seven metacognitive modules which we use in order to constantly interpret information as it is presented to us throughout our day. These modules are Interpersonal, Kinesthetic, Linguistic, Logical / Mathematical, Spatial / Visual, Musical, and Intrapersonal.

The first two parts of the book are a detailed analysis of how the brain works in conjunction with our mental / emotional state, how we can discover and unlock our potential to control and boost our mental awareness, and an explanation of what is meant by "The Perfect You", as well as how to achieve it.

The third part of the book is "The Unique Qualitative (UQ) Assessment Tool", which is a series of 34-50 questions for each of the metacognitive modules discussed in parts 1 and 2. These are not "yes / no" or Likert scale (1-10) questions. Instead, these are all short answer questions, with 5+ lines provided for each answer. These are questions like "Do you enjoy learning and using new vocabulary? If yes, describe the what, how, when, and why. If no, describe the what, how, when, and why." The point isn't to get a final tally or pass some test, but rather, to be honest and open with yourself about who you are and how you process and interpret your surroundings in everyday mundane moments. This part of the book also includes a checklist and exercise to help you stay focused on changing your thought patterns in order to alter your current state.

Dr. Leaf states "Your UQ profile has a threefold purpose: to help you understand how you uniquely think, feel, and choose; to increase your ability to mindfully and deliberately self-regulate your thinking, feeling, and choosing to keep you in alignment with the Holy Spirit; and to help you understand how you think, feel, and choose when you are operating in your Perfect You so that you can recognize when you are operating outside of it."

Part four of The Perfect You has examples and tips to help you get through those times when you find yourself not following the assessment of your unique Perfect You.

Overall, I found this book to be a very interesting study of how we interpret and respond to our surroundings, and how we can adjust our thinking in order to change our world - both inside and out. However, as stated, this book is deeply scientific and could be very confusing and hard to read for a lot of people. Also, while the in-depth short answer questions are designed to probe your specific reasons behind your actions, I could see this as being a problem area for people that don't have an analytical mindset and have a hard time objectively assessing their own behaviors. For those of us that are more scientific and analytical, this book is a masterpiece and can connect the dots to raise your personal awareness of why you think, feel, and choose the things you do on a daily basis - as well as how to have better control in order to become more in alignment with God's design for your being. 4/5 stars.

Whenever you pick up a book by “Switch on Your Brain” author Dr. Caroline Leaf, be prepared to have your life changed in some way! This is definitely the case with her newest release from Baker Books, “The Perfect You: A Blueprint for Identity”. This book is for you if, as Dr. Leaf questions in the prologue, you’ve ever asked yourself: “Who am I? Does anyone out there understand me . . . do I have purpose and meaning, a unique part in a divine plan? Does anyone understand who I am, or who I am meant to be? Do I even understand me? Can I accept the way God has allowed me to be? Do I really accept the blueprint for identity that God has given me?”

With these questions, Dr. Leaf invites us on a journey of discovery to uncover who God intended for us to be when he formed us with such care. “The Perfect You” is divided into four parts. The first portion explains the “big picture” of discovering and then living our Blueprint for Identity. The second portion, (which is definitely the deepest and most challenging to wade through!) discusses the science and philosophy that provides a foundation for “The Perfect You”. Next comes the third part where we dive into what Dr. Leaf calls “The Unique Qualitative (U.Q.) Assessment Tool” - this is undoubtedly the most interesting, eye-opening section of the book! And finally, the fourth section discusses what to do next with the results revealed in the previous chapters.

“The Perfect You” is not a book that you can pick up and read through in an afternoon. No, the first sections of this book take time to work through, and the Assessment Tool takes even more time to thoughtfully, prayerfully, and quietly complete. In truth, I have not completed the profile myself just yet, simply because it is a process that cannot be rushed. From what I have read, however, of this impact-laden book I truly believe that it can transform the lives of anyone who reads it in remarkable ways. So, if any or all of the questions quoted above struck a chord with you, don’t hesitate to find a copy of “The Perfect You” and take a journey of self-discovery unlike any other.

I am grateful to have received a copy of this book from Baker Books Bloggers, free of charge, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

This book helps us to discover who we are in God. Dr. Leaf refers to this as The Perfect You. Throughout the book she encourages us to be ourselves - who God intended us to be. Unless we live our life in the Perfect You state, we truly are not going to be content, in peace or even be healthy.

It took me quite a while to read this book because I found myself wanting to really understand and apply what she was sharing. My whole book is full of pink highlighter and stars because there is so much amazing information in this book. Dr. Leaf shares complex information but in a way that was very understandable for me. It's just a lot to take in all at once.

One of the things that I found so useful in this book was the UQ Profile (Unique Qualitative Assessment Tool) that Dr. Leaf developed. It is a series of questions that helped me to identify what my Perfect You is - how God made me, actually - and then she gives the instructions on how to apply this to your life. It's a fantastic eye-opening experience and it helped me to understand and truly accept who I am.

The greatest thing about this book is it's not a "how to" book that treats everyone the same with a set formula. This book is all about finding your unique blueprint just for you and being happy with who God made you. I have read Dr. Leaf's other books and the greatest thing I have loved in learning from her is how our mind can change our brain. This book expands on this and I have a great sense of self.

I highly recommend this book! It really is a life changing book and will give you the path to being the Perfect You!

I received a copy of Dr. Caroline Leaf’s book The Perfect You: A Blueprint for Identity in exchange for an honest review.
This selection reads like an easily accessible textbook. While that may conjure an image of a boring book, it provides a lot of insight. The idea of understanding how your thoughts work and how you can shape them to improve your life gives you not only knowledge but hope. As Leaf explains, a lot of people feel stuck in their negative thought patterns, and she shares understanding and guidance to alter those for the better.
Leaf divides the book into sections, separating the parts that explain how the thought processes work and the biblical bases she uses with the assessment tool and explanations on how to apply it. The flow generally made sense as it gave a foundation for the information so you could have a strong base to use the assessment rather than simply take the assessment and have no background for it. I preferred the first two sections most as they provided all the information. However, the assessment could be used as a workbook for further reflection. I would like to spend more time on nit to use it as an ongoing source of encouragement and growth. The assessment has a lot of questions and depth to it, so it seems like this can be used over a lengthy time for best results.
I enjoyed the book overall, both for its insight as well as its tools for improvement. Leaf knows her brain as well as her bible. I particularly liked how she ties them together. She makes the information accessible and relatable to real life by pointing out how people feel when they do good and how we tend to steer our thoughts. Then she anchors the hope for improvement using biblical principles on how God created us and continues to shape us.

Wow… I haven’t read a book as complex and scientific as this one in a really long time and I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything in it. This is one of those books that I know I would have to read 3 or 4 times in order to really get a full grasp of everything covered in it. But after this first reading I can say that it is definitely a book worth those re-readings! The idea of the Perfect You - the unique way that God created only You to think, feel and choose - is really interesting and the science that Dr Leaf shares behind it is absolutely fascinating. I think my favorite part of this whole experience was the fact that I was validated in and learned the science behind a bunch of things that for whatever reason I already instinctually understood. I found myself making tons of notes to the effect of “This is exactly what I’ve always thought/said!” and it was cool to realize the places where I was right, as well as the places where my assumptions were totally off base. If you want a book to help you live more in line with who God made you to be, correct your thinking and take every thought captive for Christ, and inspire you to do the work necessary to become the best version of you that you can be, this is definitely a great option. Fair warning though: it is not a simplistic easy read you can breeze through in a day and if you are actually going to get the most out of it, you’ll be spending a LOT of time in self-reflection answering questions. But if you’re up for that, this for sure a book you should check out!

GREAT READ! If you have not read any of Dr. Leaf's previous books, I will let you know in advance, this is not an "easy on the mental processor", "light and fluffy" endeavor; your inner geek will eat it up!!

It is highly scientific/technical in nature, but part of the magic is that it explains through science what you may have known intuitively all along (as it sets biblical principles up next to the science that reflects the truth we already know, specifically renewing the mind and the realities of operating from love instead of fear). It is informative, eye-opening, and has the ability to help you unlock your unique way of processing and filtering life.

It is fascinating to delve into how the mind changes the brain and that we have the ability to alter the physical landscape of our brains through altering thought patterns. We don't have to think the same things and can have a different result. We also do not have to live under the curse of "diagnoses" from the "experts". It takes conscious EFFORT and WORK, but it CAN be done.

One last piece of advice, be prepared to take the UQ section SLOWLY. Take your time with each of the seven areas in your own journal. This is a highly revelatory exercise and experience.

And lastly, bask in the beauty of how God specifically and uniquely designed your mind to process your experiences. We are all unique and fearfully and wonderfully made. Discovering and being able to articulate specifically what that looks like for me was the greatest encouragement and blessing I received from engaging with this book.

Review:
The title The Perfect You may lead one to expect a pop-psychology book with its simple slogans and four easy steps to “discover one’s real self.” But that is definitely not what this book is. A more accurate description is that The Perfect You is cognitive behavioral therapy on steroids from a religious perspective. The book incorporates Biblical principles in every chapter with aspects of Buddhist mindfulness added to the mix. The presentation is very scientific—often too much so for the average lay reader. An example is a header in the book: “The Quantum Angle of the Perfect You and the Geodesic Model” (Dr. Caroline Leaf, The Perfect You: A Blueprint for Identity, Baker Books, 2017, p. 97). I doubt that all readers will understand what that header even means. Yet, the expectation of the author, Dr. Caroline Leaf, is that the reader can indeed appropriate all the “deep thinking” and “mindfulness” necessary to banish fear-based/toxic thought clusters and “think, feel, and choose” (p. 25) attitudes in sync with “our godly wired-for-love design” (p. 37). A repeated word for that process is “self-regulate.”

A familiarity with the principles of neuroplasticity will help readers better understand all the scientific language and diagrams in the book. Dr. Leaf’s book is a great contribution that field and worth the time needed to digest her principles. For the readers who can do the hard work of self-regulating how they think, feel and choose, it will be transformative. 4 stars.

This work of excellence by Dr. Caroline Leaf is an absolute masterpiece. Dr. Leaf is simply extraordinary in how she made this exposition flow, with scientific data and research that transitions smoothly with spiritual truth and profound wisdom.

One point in case is as follows, "Quantum physics, with its examination of science beyond the traditional paradigms of space and time, points directly to the belief that the universe has a creative mind behind it (consciousness), and therefore a creative purpose." Do you know what's even more thrilling? We are part of this creative purpose as we live out our, Perfect You.

The Perfect You is your unique way of thinking, unlike anyone else. The Perfect You is the 'tailor-made' You in which there is something in life that only you can do, something that needs your special uniqueness. Even though the methods built into the idea here about the "Perfect You" may have merit, as they are similar to other mainstream methods in psychology, Caroline Leaf adds a lot of pseudoscientific jargon to make it sound more profound than what it is. She talks about things like quantum physics in one breath and some verse from the bible in the next, using difficult sciensy words in a way that I don't become much wiser after reading them. I don't buy it. I do like how Leaf gives some focus to the plasticity of the brain, and that the questions presented in the UQ(I'm sure she wants it to be the next IQ) are valid and important for developing you(I mean, she do have over 30 years of experience in the field that she alludes to multiple times in the book), but for the love of what is good, don't come and tell me "science tells us". That is not how you explain your research. The alarm bells should fire given the 27 blurbs at the beginning of the book, where most are praise by pastors - on a book about neuroscience. This is the third book I read by Caroline leaf, and I had the same feelings about the previous ones -> don't think you get good science here.

Imagine you could become the best you you could be. In this book, Dr. Caroline Leaf links scripture with neuroscience to explain how each person thinks, feels, and makes choices. She explains how negative thoughts affect our neuropathways and get us stuck in patterns and, more importantly, how we can change it

The layout of the text is well-done. The information is easy to understand and eye-opening. The duagrams and illustrations not only complement the text, but also bring it to life for the reader. This is the perfect self-help book for anyone new or familiar with neuroscience who are looking to seriously change their lives.

Can I just start by saying the Dr. Leaf is smart? Like Jeopardy smart. I appreciated that about this book. I will say that as someone who not overly scientific in general, much less in the field of neurology, some of this book got a little detailed for me. Also, I felt like the tests were overly long. By all means, use 50 questions when you're working directly with a person, but for the book, best 10 questions would have yielded the same results with quite a bit less work on our end. Especially since so many questions were basically repeats - which I know researchers do to reinforce the answers, but its unnecessary if they aren't analyzing the data. Which is my only other complaint. I already know what I know. It would have been helpful if there had been brief guideline along the lines of "So you're not good at Linguistics. Now what?" just something to help point us plebians in the right direction.
Overall a good read, but it did take quite a bit of work.

Dr. Caroline Leaf's book, The Perfect You, is the graduation of some of her earlier works in that now she leads the reader to a deep dive of self discovery and assessment of identity through seven modules of how we think, feel, and choose. The lengthy assessment is a fantastic tool into how one processes and makes decisions on a moment by moment basis. Having read her earlier works, I would have prefered a shorter explanation of the brain science at the beginning and a more comprehensive section on what to do with the information gained in completing the Unique Qualitative Assessment Tool. The ending felt rushed after such a deep dive. Still, Dr. Caroline Leaf's work is rich and life-changing. This is heavy lifting and perhaps a re-read would be proper given the amount of information contained within the book.

Dr. Caroline Leaf is one of my favorite authors. I don't always understand everything about Quantum phyics, neuroplasticity, neurogenesis and epigenitics in somewhat easy to understand way. I love what she has to say about changing your mind, which changes your thinking and DNA. One of my favorite quotes in the book is " it is important to remember that our thinking changes the structure of our brains because our minds are separate separate from our brains." In " The Perfect You" Dr. Leaf has yet again published another amazing book about how we can live out our perfect blueprint of the person that God has called us to be. This book gives you the principles and tools to discover the way God created you to be and then live it out! Thank you to the publisher for providing me a copy. I highly recommend this book and give it 5/5 stars.

As you read this book you begin to get a better idea of how you tick.

The book is an intense look at what makes you, you. The book is detailed and not an easy read, but oh so worth it.

Best thing was the realization that finally dawned on me. God made me. I am unique and that is "Perfectly" fine. My UQ is precisely that! My "Perfect You"!

In am looking forward to incorporating the lessons of this book to my life. I will also be sharing it with famhisily and friends. The teaching/ideas in this book need to go out to God's people and the world.

Thank you, Dr. Leaf, for once again reminding us that God made us with a plan, and for helping us to reach our full potential.

Have you wondered how your body, soul (mind), and spirit work together? Would you like to change something in your life? What do you do when start to feel uncomfortable about something? Would you like to live a more spirit led life? All of these things are included in: The Perfect You. Dr. Leaf masterfully explains how your spirit and mind (soul) influence your body. The book includes the Unigue Qualitative Assessment Tool, which takes a considerable amount of time to complete. The time you take is well worth it. “You embody a blueprint that cannot be categorized: you have an infinite, irreducible truth-value.” This book will help you rediscover your importance and specific value to the Plan of God.

Dr Leaf is one of few authors that can make me read nonfiction, and still thoroughly enjoy it 😅

I love this author, she explains the version of you that isn't just by chance but explains the science and biblical aspects as to why you are you; and if you go against that you are stepping outside your "perfect you" when we live life not trying to be like someone else, we are worshipping God, which i thought was so beautiful.

she also explained rumination and negative thoughts, and how we can reduce them to being with and eventually have control over our mind, by developing the intelligence side of our minds, how we think, feel and choose via metacognative modules and exercises.

this will definitely be a reread for me, as of all of her books.
