When Jesse Camden, owner of the Gilded Lily Tea Room and Coffee House, agrees to meet her childhood friend, Winnie Rogers, for a morning of girl talk and reminiscing, or fishing as Winnie likes to call it, Jesse anticipates a morning of shared confidences over a picnic brunch in the countryside. But spring in Oklahoma can be unpredictable, and when a tornado drops out of a wall cloud practically on top of them, Jesse and Winnie find themselves stranded with a demolished pickup and a dead body before they’ve even opened the picnic basket. As the normally unflappable Winnie begins to cry and can’t seem to stop, strangers who seem more menacing than helpful arrive, and the dead body turns out to be Winnie’s recently divorced husband, Jesse realizes she has no choice but to call her nemesis Sheriff Joe Tyler for help. After that, things start to go downhill.

Outstanding!

One of the best cozy mysteries out there! Real to life characters and situations presented in a thoroughly readable story. Read one of this series and you will be hooked. More, please!

What a difference!

I wanted to like the cat of eclectic characters from the first book, but didn't feel as if I knew them enough. By the third chapter of this book, I knew I was right to try the second in the series. The characters play so well off of each other, and the are enough twists and turns to keep the plot interesting . Can't wait to read the next book!

Terrific book!

Another great story told by a master story teller. Her descriptions are so good you can see what or who she is describing. Every shrug, turn of the head or landscape can be seen with the eyes of your mind. I didn't figure out the murderer until close to the end of the book. That is unusual, which demonstrates the authors talent. This is my third book by Ms. Harrington and one of the few ebooks I actually purchased. Most of the ebooks I have were free, but I enjoyed her first two (free ebooks) I bought this one. Great character development, plot and the touch of romantic suspense. I'm looking forward to the next book. I hope you write fast Ms. Harrington!

Found the book utterly entertaining. One of the best of reads. I gave it 5 stars, even though there were some grammatical errors (vey few). But it seems that the majority of these smaller mystery books sorely lack any thought of grammatical correctness. And that is a shame, as most have good characters, plots and dialogue. But, unfortunately, they do not seem to realize the need for a GOOD proof reader, therefore, they will never become great writers. Try reading Christie, Parker, Connelly, etc. and you will find that there are NO grammatical errors in their works.
Anyway, I look forward to reading Loulou's next book.

Nature and idiots complicate a murder

Jesse and an old friend from high school go fishing. First they are freaked out by a tornado that drops a boat through the friend's windshield, then by a dead body the tornado impaled on a huge thorn tree, then by the discovery that the body is the friend's ex-husband. Of course the sheriff first suspects the ex-wife, and of course he's wrong, but it takes Jesse a while to figure out whodunnit. Although the rest of the story is tame compared to the beginning, Jesse faces down two gunmen on her way to the solution. More action and less discussion in this book than the first, which was a good thing.

These Myrtle Cove cozies seem to grow on you, it is good to see the ladies brashness eased somewhat. They are still a nosy bunch, but the amateur sleuthing has given Vivian a new lease on life instead of being a bored heiress since the death of her husband. Poor sheriff Joe he has a hard time trying to keep Jesse and Vivian away from the crime scene, their curiosity knows no bounds and to top it off the Sheriff seems to be sweet on Jesse. This book is full of surprising turns, it was very entertaining and intriguing.

Jesse Camden and her gardening club are at it again. After Jesse and her friend Winnie make it through a tornado, they find a dead body, Winnie's ex-husband. While she's not a major suspect, the Myrtle Grove Garden Club decides that they need to help. So they basically throw themselves into the investigation and interfere to their full extent. Like, they pick up evidence and talk to people before the police.... like, really stupid amateur things. And that was so annoying I could barely pay attention to the mystery. And the sheriff does nothing about it. I don't get it.

What a great series! I'm so glad I already had book 2 after finishing book 1. Great foresight. LOL Great characters--love the relationships with Jesse. She's smart, insightful, and a caring friend. So, when her childhood friend Winnie says she needs to talk, Jesse drops everything and comes running. Good thing, too. A man is murdered and Winnie is the prime suspect. Once again, Jesse gets in trouble with Sheriff Joe Tyler, who might not be as antagonistic to her as she thought. A good mystery with lots of suspects, distractions, and a satisfying ending. On to book 3.

This is the 2nd in the series and the first time reading this author for me. The main character is Jessie who is fishing with her friend when they get caught in a tornado and after find the body of her friends ex-husband stuck up in a tree. While trying to help her friend figure out the who and whys of it all Jessie comes across some pretty strange stuff. This one kept me guessing right up to the end.

A five star cozy mystery.

Books reviews should be based on their genre. As a cozy mystery War and Peace would rate one star at best. I really enjoy these Myrtle Grove Garden Club mysteries. They have a bit more mystery to them than do most reads in the category. Loulou Harrington, also, populates them with a delightful cast of characters that are well woven into the fabric of her tales. I hope you enjoy them as much as I.

This is book #2 in this series and is good! Jesse goes fishing early one morning with her friend Winnie. A few odd (and I mean odd) things happen which result in Winnie ' s ex-husband Roy Lee being found dead. Jesse, her Mom Sophia, and their friend Vivian all want to help Winnie so they work together to solve Roy Lee's death along with the bones found in Winnie ' s yard. There is family, friendship, and humor in this cozy mystery.

Humor and a Mystery

Early one morning Jesse sets out to meet her best friend from grade school for a fishing trip and a visit. Before the day is done they’ve been assaulted by hail, nearly blown away by a tornado, and found a dead body!

Who is the victim? Was the death accidental or intentional? The garden club sleuths are at work once more! Read to find the answers!

Thorny murder mystery

A well-written and well thought-out murder mystery in a small southern town. All the charm of “Steel Magnolias” without the hackneyed misogyny.
Each character was well described and maintained their roles throughout the story.
Only a couple of editing errors were noted and none detracted from the storyline.

Tea shops and bones

When Jessie's friend Winnie finds a human bone in her garden a new mystery starts for the garden club. This one combines a tearoom, bones and the murder of Winnie's recently divorced husband Roy Lee. Cozy mysteries are like sitting down with an old friend.

Yikes-You do not want to mess with the ladies of Myrtle Grove!!! Not only do they take their gardening serious but also the well-being of their family and friends. These are some feisty women who take on a tornado, discovery of a two dead bodies and still take time for coffee and a little moonshine as well. Really enjoyed this book!!

Friends since childhood, and now meetings at predawn. so Winnie can fish. She always was more talkative with a fishing pole in her hand. Tornado comes unexpectedly and what they find in its aftermath is a body with a bullet hole. The conversation Winnie wanted was about the bone she found in her back yard. Another twist to murder, and got a cast of characters that blend well together.

The reader was good and most of the story was good. This is the 2nd book in this series that I have read/listened to. I want to like them. I like the story line and the characters but they are corny and the main character, Jesse, does many unreasonable things which leave me frustrated. I love a cozy mystery set in a location of interest but I am through with Jesse.

I want to hang out with these ladies

Just when you think you have the characters all figured out... I found myself learning a new quirk to each one. Thoroughly enjoyed their escapades and antics! Kept me entertained and not once was I tempted to skip a page or two to get on with the story. I'll definitely want to read the series.

Murder Most Thorny

Book two of the Garden Club mysteries. It's an easy read but not as well written as Book one. The group of ladies solve the murder of their friend's ex husband.

I like the characters and the story.

The characters are good and I liked the story line. The writing though was a bit confusing sometimes. I think it needed to be edited one more time.

A typical second book. Not bad, not great either. And a bit rushed, especially the end. It lacked a last chapter or at least a scene to wrap it all up.
But still, a nice read and I have high hopes for the next one.

It was ok

It was well written, no grammar or spelling errors that I could find. Interesting characters and the plot was good. I thought it was a bit slow at times but I did finish it.

Fun little cozy mystery. Might have been better if I'd read the first book in the series before I read this one, but I didn't really feel like I was left out by not reading it. I might go back and get the first book, or just forge ahead.

Murder mystery

Excellent book along the lines of Arora Teagarden or women's murder clubs stories . A group of friends stumble upon a murder and help the police solve the mystery. Part of a series, but can be read as a standalone.

Getting caught in a tornado is stressful enough, but finding a body is even worse! Ex husband, his family, and bones and Vivian wearing her high heel shoes to muddy crime scenes!!!

Friends , family and mystery

I read book 4 first somehow and I liked it better than this one but it was still good. You have to wait until the end to pull it all together which keeps you reading.
