An aging heiress, the beloved dog who will inherit her fortune, and too many suspicious accidents. Or are they a prelude to murder? Jesse Camden is a sucker for a mystery. So when Amanda Carmichael’s assistant Bethany asks the Myrtle Grove Garden Club to investigate what she thinks are attempts on her employer’s life, Jesse and Vivian Windsor agree. But before they can start, Bethany sends a frantic message that Amanda is leaving for her isolated estate in the Salish Sea, taking her dog Lady and a small staff, including Bethany, with her. As Jesse and Vivian go hurrying after them, disaster strikes again, and this time the “accident” is fatal. Jesse and Vivian suddenly find themselves racing toward the unknown, determined to uncover the truth and protect the small dog who not only inherits Amanda’s fortune, but the danger that stalks this remote private island.
An Excellent cozy mystery! I have to admit that I was drawn to this book by the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel on the cover and was please to discover that while the dog did not play a large role in the action, her role was key and she was present throughout much of the story. It is obvious that LouLou Harrington is familiar with at least one Cavy because Lady Jane's actions were so typical of the adorable breed. The little darling almost steals the show for any reader who is as much of a dog lover as I.
The main characters were interesting, quick witted, and at times amusing. I liked that they don't take themselves too seriously but do respect the fact that a person lost her life. The plot was intriguing, providing many reasonable suspects but the amateur investigators do not go around accusing everyone. I enjoyed their approach much better than many cozy mysteries.
I received a copy of this book from the author and look forward to reading more books in the series.
It’s a beautiful April day in Oklahoma, and Jesse Camden is sitting on Vivian Windsor’s front porch soaking in the beauty and peace. The Myrtle Grove Garden Club is holding a planning meeting. They need to replace the pansies and that they planted on the town square for winter with bright spring and summer flowers. Jesse, Vivian, and Sue Ann Bailey are there early, but soon her mother Sophia and her best friend Winnie Rogers arrive. Winnie says that she’s taking a break from planning her ex-husband’s funeral along with his girlfriend of the last year. Then they hear a car door close and feet walking toward them. A lady unknown to them appears. Winnie then introduces the other lady to the club. Her name is Bethany O’Connor, and she serves as companion to Amanda Carmichael, a wealthy woman who lives part-time in the area. Bethany and Amanda have a problem that Bethany would like the club to investigate. Strange things have happened to Amanda: a stomach upset after eating soup, a strange bout of lethargy, and one day she couldn’t be awakened. Bethany tells them that she believes that someone is trying to kill Amanda! She would like the club to find proof, and to find the culprit. Are Bethany’s suspicions correct or is she just imagining things? Can Jesse and the Garden Club prevent Amanda’s would-be murderer from succeeding if Bethany’s right? Read Murder on a Silver Sea to find out! ❤️✝️✡️❤️
The Myrtle Grove Garden Club is holding a meeting to decide on what plants to plant in the town square. Amanda Carmichael is a wealthy oil widow living in Oklahoma. Amanda falls down at her estate at the Salish Sea in Washington state. Bethany O’Connor is Amanda’s assistant asking for Jesse Camden, Sue Bailey and Vivian of the Myrtle Grove Garden Club to help investigate threats made on Amanda’s life. Amanda has had lots of accidents occurring to her that seem suspicious. The Myrtle Grove Garden Club ladies try to help solve threats made on Amanda's life and find out who is behind the threats. I really enjoy this wonderful cozy mystery novel.
Love the Myrtle Grove Garden Club mysteries. When a group of women (not twenty somethings) get together to solve mysteries, the local sheriff thinks they are getting together toooo frequently, they name themselves the Myrtle Grove Garden Club. What happens when wealthy oil widow who lives in Oklahoma suddenly goes to her property off coast of Washington state and falls down the steps at her house. Was it murder or accident. Some listed in her will are up to no good. Will there be another accident?
that I didn't enjoy this book. I've read several out of order and I loved each one! I can't put my finger on what made the difference. Peter wasn't in it much and I love the way those two banter and flirt. I enjoy her mothers point of view. Which was missing. Her familiar was missing. So, I guess I was several things. However, if you are new to Loulou's books, you won't notice any of the things I mentioned, and won't be hooked yet. Once you're hooked, you're hooked!
A fun mystery. Once again, Jesse and Vivian find themselves plunged into a murder mystery. This time not in small town Oklahoma but on a secluded island off the coast of Washington State. I was determined to pick out the killer this time. Wrong! Ms. Harrington did a great job finger-pointing everyone, each with a motive. I did miss Sheriff Joe Tyler and kept expecting him to show up. I was excited to see Harrington has started a new series based on the island. Should be worth checking out. Now onto book 4 of the Myrtle Grove Garden Club.
This was my first LuLu Harrington mystery and I loved it. The characters were wonderful and the heroines and friends were as comfortable with each other as a pair of favorite slippers. The plot had many possible murderers, and reasons for nursery. The secrets and twists and turns kept coming to the very end. A delightful tale, wonderfully told. I have alteady chosen my next book by this author. Well done.
This is the 3rd book in the series. The main character are Jessie and her friend/mentor Viv. They are asked to help save a Amanda from being murdered but are really sure if it is a real threat or not. But Viv knew this person for decades so they say they will look into it. Before they do much, the woman is dead and they set out to find out how an d who did it. I didn't have this one figured iut. Kept me guessing. Looking forward to the next book.
Myrtle Grove Garden Club is busy planning of which flowers to plant next in the public flower beds where people would see them come spring. Winnie has a friend that needs help and wanted the club to do it. I love Vivian remark, they don’t require them to be dead, to help. Bethany thinks someone is trying to kill her and wants Jessie and Vivian to help her. Only problem this mansion it is on an isolated Lopez island. Murder and lots of suspects. Another good plot for them to solve.
I love this series! This story goes from Oklahoma to an island off the Washington Coast! The description makes you want to visit! Love the talk between Jesse, and the Sheriff in her life. I wished they would act like grown-ups! Why can't they even kiss? The Cozy Mystery Genre needs to grow up. Just my opinion! I highly recommend! Thanks! Carolintallahassee.com
Jesse and Vivian are roped into solving a murder that is confusing and darn right frustrating. It took them a while to figure out whodunit, but not before Jesse almost drowned and the victim's granddaughter turned up drugged. All in all, things worked out fine and the ladies can't’ wait to get back home to cozy Myrtle Cove.
Great character development! I look forward to getting to know Jesse, Vivian, Sophia and all the other characters in Myrtle Grove. Plot moved quickly enough, didn't get bored. A mystery with twists and a touch of romance. Loved the friendships! Thanks Loulou for a good read!
In spite of the fact that Book 2 in this series just wasn’t my cup of tea, I decided to give Book 3 a try. And to my delight and surprise, I really enjoyed it. The characters are, for the most part, well developed and likable, and the storyline shows imagination on the part of the author. I’ll probably give the next book in the series a try.
The sleuthing ladies of the Myrtle Grove garden club solved another one. This time they spent time on an island with shady characters as they try to figure out who killed the benefactor to all of them.
I enjoyed reading this third book of the series, and actually wished I had read the previous books. LouLou did a fine job setting up the scenario for this lonely spot. I will be looking forward to Jesse's further adventures.
This cozy takes you into a new world! From the mundane to the slightly more exotic setting of a small off coast island where a generous old lady had just met her end. But was it murder? Well written with strong characters and a story line that flows well
I love cosy mysteries. This was a very good read. A real mystery. I'm from Tulsa, Oklahoma. That and a really cute dog had me early on this book. But I did really enjoy this mystery. I will read more of Lou Lou Harrington books. It's nice to find a new author to read!!!😇😇😇💖
This is the first book I have read in this series. The characters are all different with their own motives to commit the murder. Love the cute dog and the island castle! The murderer was a complete surprise.
Story and characters are pretty good, although the puzzle is less fun when the solution relies heavily on coincidence near the end and not clues we'd had access to. One scene I expected to have significance never did. That bugged me.
This one doesn't start out with a murder but it will get there. I couldn't figure this one out there were more to choose from than usual. But Jesse and Viv figure it out in the end with a hint of romance for the next book.
Another fabulously written mystery full of the the tipe of outrageous caracters Ms.Harrington has become known for. This time Jesselyne Viviane end up on a small island across country trying to find a killer.
Yet again a fast paced !mystery with lots of twist and turns!
Love the characters ,the settings, and imaginative story lines! Always leaves you wanting another! loulou Harrington has became one of my favorite authors!
Was Amanda murder or was it a accident? Who are all these employees of her? Are they relatives of her? Who would want Amanda dead? This book keep you questing to the very end.
I loved this thrilling convoluted mystery! That's why I gave it 5 stars! I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys figuring out who the killer is as the plot unfolds!
I can not seem to get enough of this series. I cannot wait for more books with these characters. I keep reading straight through without stopping. This book gives you everything. I love the exciting plot, warm characters, romance and story line.
Jesse and Vivian are swept up in a strange and mysterious situation. Always wanting to help a friend they embark on a trip to an island to find out what happened to a friend of hers that has died.
I loved it. Only missing a star because it was my first in series and could have used a tiny intro on each character. I floundered a bit the first few chapters until we jumped in the mystery. Perfect setting and perfectly wonderful mystery.
Myrtle Grove Garden Club looks after public spaces and makes them more cheerful. It's members have a sideline in criminal investigation. This story has two settings based on the USA and a dog. Another cracking read.
I don't usually ead cozy but decided to try one. I was surprised. This . was a good. Mystery and I enjoyed reading it. I'll probably get another cozy and check more out. Enjoy!!
Another fine installment of the series with all the favorite characters. Loads of twists and turns. Plus a cute, little doggy. And the added bonus of an exotic (to Jesse) location. Fun all the way around.
