In Beginnings, Jessie’s horrific childhood background is revealed along with the genesis of her supernatural powers, her training and guilt. Jessie wrestles with issues of faith even while being forced to utilize her covert training to protect her newfound friends and family. Beginnings, the third installment of this serial novel compels me to get the next installment.
Although the threat of the Russian mafia has abated, 14-year-old Jesse Tacket knows that the real danger comes from her former covert OPS trainer (known as the General) who still seeks to recover what he considers a mere military weapon—Jessie, or Katia as she was known to him. As Detective Victoria Tacket, Jessie’s guardian, presses for more background information on her past, Jesse must decide how much she can tell while keeping her promises, and protecting her new found guardian who was evolving into a real parental figure—and even a friend.

The story continues as Jessie and Vick get used to each other—build trust. Vick doesn't understand how dangerous the man from Jessie's past is.
Vick also wants Jessie to have a more normal teenage experience—go to high school and learn to integrate with people her own age. Right. Vick has no idea of Jessie's skills, or how much danger people will be in if Jessie's past catches up to her.
They have many differences between them, especially God. Jessie is a new Christian and Vick has no use for God or any type of religion.
These are novellas that contain a continued story. The POV's are of both Jessie and Vick.

A Series Perfect for your Christian Teen! Jessie and her new Guardian, Vic, aren’t on the same page about how Jessie should live her life, but they each try to protect the other in their own ways. Jessie is learning what it means to be a new Christian and fit in with society. She also uses her mutant powers and trained skills to prepare for a future showdown with her enemy while helping out a few people along the way. Vic resists any talk of God but has a good heart as she uses her cop contacts to do the same.
I loved that we learn a lot more about each of their pasts in this installment. There are also some new characters, which mean new problems, but also a chance for friendship.

More revelations about their pasts and settling in… another short read and I’m still completely hooked. I really think this should’ve been one complete book instead of split into all these short reads but I am so grateful these are all in KU so I can read them all! Probably going to be up late tonight to finish all the books to the end!

Another fun read. This one packs a more emotional punch along with revealing more of Jessie's background. I like how each book in the series so far has brought added depth both to the characters and the overarching plot. A solid addition to the series.
