Carth has begun to develop her network, and offers her protection to the women of Asador, but not all are pleased with what she has done. When an assassin kills someone close to her, Carth leaves the city in pursuit. What she finds reveals that her plans have been inadequate, and the game she thought she had been playing might have been another entirely. If she doesn’t adapt, those she’s vowed to protect will be in danger, and a greater threat will be unleashed.
this is starting to feel like the first time I played Skyrim on a TV that didn't have the right resolution so I couldn't read anything that was happening. I was accidentally triggering quests and I was just going to where the markers pointed me. this series started out strong but I don't know if I'll bother to read the next book. it's trying to interconnect all the bad guys motives and it makes it feel even more removed from each other. why would they all have a hand in so many different things unrelated to what they want? do they want money? or power? why are they trying to remove a certain group if they're so powerful and ahead of carth on everything they're doing? she's not much of a threat unless they one v one her and they don't do that much. why is the one bad guy so willing to agree to new Accord terms Everytime they one v one when hes stronger than her and she says this every time. I just. I don't get it?m
I was hopeful of this series based on the initial book. More and more I started to realise the author stretched out his writing to make full books out of what should only be a chapter or 2.
Worse was as I described before was his painful stretching of the parts of the book where absolutely nothing happened, where time skips or character switching would have aided him. This is in direct contrast to the parts of the book where things do happen where the author seems to rush blindingly through fight scenes and the concluding battles in a paragraph or less.
I feel cheated out of a great story, unfulfilled, a recipient of a sandwich with not enough filling. I can understand money grabs what I do not understand is spending more than half of the book with the protagonist trying to decide to do something and rehashing the same thought process and lines over and over again.
Mr. Holmberg is an excellent story teller. One would almost think he is of Irish descent ;) However, while you are caught up in the story, every now and then editing mistakes create a hiccup that pulls you out. Credit goes to Mr. Holmberg's ability to spin a captivating tale that helps one delve back into the action with just a slight annoyance at the disruption. Nevertheless, I do recommend reading this and all the other books that take place in this world. I have thoroughly enjoyed them thus far.
The reason for a 4 star this time was because there were a bunch of slow areas that did cause me to become sleepy. Other than I still love the characters and how they are being developed. Good Reading Everyone!
An excellent continuation of a great series with great characters. Awesome story line. Good continuity between the other series and introduction of new characters.
I have just finished the last book in the Shadow Series. I am sad that it has ended. I love everything I have read of DK Holmberg. Such a wonderful writer! I think I have read everything but will reread just to meet up with Carth again!
Great characters and fantastic story wish they would make it into a movie. The main characters are someone you can connect to and they are like good friends. I highly recommend this book. A great read.
As with the other books in this series it is an enjoyable read. I have one complaint - it doesn’t finish the story. There needs to be another book in the series. By the author comments at the end of the book it sounds like there was going to be one but I can’t find it.
Another enjoyable book in the series. The reason for four stars is because of typos , missing words and a need for better proofreading /editing. I will continue to follow the story of Carth, as I enjoy it.
It is a good series but story line was not complete. I guess the story does continues in a different series and I’ll see how it goes. That is also one of the reasons for 4 stars.
I enjoyed book 6 and ur had errors throughout. Carth has developed as a character well, and others around her have grown too. I enjoyed the plot and where ur is leading.
