About the author

Herman Parish (born 1953) is the author of Amelia Bedelia children's book series, nephew of original author, Peggy Parish. Having grown up with his aunt’s tales of Amelia’s humorous misadventures, Herman decided to carry on the legacy after his aunt’s death in 1988. He did not wish to entrust the future of the series into the hands of a children’s author outside of the family. Since Peggy had the summers off from teaching, she was able to stay with the Parish family for extended periods of time, allowing Herman and Peggy to develop a close relationship. More importantly, this gave Herman a chance to keenly observe Peggy during her writing processes, gaining great insight to the road ahead of him. To carry on the essence of the series, Herman thoroughly examined his aunt’s work and did his best to capture what exactly made the character of Amelia Bedelia such a hit. Having editor Susan Hirschman and illustrator Lynn Sweat in common with his aunt helped to make the transition. He has added thirteen more books to the series. Herman is a resident of Princeton, New Jersey, and travels to libraries and schools across the United States, speaking and inspiring young children. The importance of revising and editing is often stressed during these dynamic lectures. He has presented to students in more than 22 states.

This second time, it was easier to read it. I think that my English reading skills are improving. A quite funny and entertaining book.

This one was cute but not as good as the others. Amelia Bedelia's dad gets a week off work so they decide to go roamin'. They stumble across a small town and then get an offer to say in a lake cabin so they do. Amelia Bedelia meets a friend and they enter a fishing contest. It was still fun and we enjoyed it, it just was a little more far fetched than some of the others.

Amelia Bedelia is as charming as in the previous books. This time it's off on a family vacation and adventure awaits on the open road.

These are such fun to read. The love and care that Herman Parish has given Amelia Bedelia is easily felt by the reader. I love that we are reading about her life as a contemporary young girl. There's a sense of wide-eyed wonder coupled with her literal-mindedness, and it works so well for her at this age.

For this entry in the series, we get a much greater sense of the loving family they are than in the others, as it's all about the three of them on vacation. Adventures abound but they are more like finding the adventures of the everyday. Boiled down, it's "A family goes on a car trip and has a good time." But within that is a good family story from a new take on a familiar and welcome character.

Amelia Bedelia Road Trip by Herman Parish is about Amelia's adventure on a road trip with her family. As usual, the book begins with Amelia being confused by her literal perception of what is being said. Her father gets a bonus at work, and decides their family need to "go off to roam." Amelia immediately assumes that means Rome, Italy, which is not the case. The remainder of the book follows Amelia's literal interpretations. I would recommend this chapter book for students in first to fourth or fifth grade, depending on their reading level.

Amelia Bedelia Road Trip! was AMAZING! I stayed up really late reading it and ended up finishing it in 2 days! I loved it when Amelia Bedelia wrote in her journal, because she wrote long stuff and short stuff in it too.

I think that Herman Parish wrote this book almost perfectly, the only thing I would have changed was to make it so Amelia Bedelia did't always get confused by words.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was that it wasn't any longer.

While is the same size, this copy is a jacketed hardcover which needs the jacket. The physical hardcover is just yellow. I prefer the jacket-less hardcover editions like I have with the first two Amelia Bedelia chapter books are. Maybe library bound? Special edition?

I loved the Amelia Bedelia books as a kid, but this one was one of my favorites. In this early chapter book, she goes on a special family vacation. She does not know where they are going but she is excited to get there. Once they get to their destination, a cabin at lake Largemouth, she meets a new friend named Audrey. Audrey and her got on a boat ride and go fishing. They wished they had been born sisters and said their goodbyes before Amelia went home. This book is great and fun to read. This would be a good book to have in the classroom library for students to read on their own. It is a good introductory chapter book because there are some little drawings on the pages that have to do with the text which can help the text not be as overwhelming for them. They also have a page in the back of the book where they talk about the meanings of the different idioms they used throughout the story, so I think it would be helpful to point that out to a student if you see them reading it.

I really like Amelia Bedelia books. She is a little girl that often miss understands things. All of the situations she is in could really happen, their is nothing magical or too off the wall about it. I would use these books to help students understand when a word they hear has a double meaning and/or an different spelling. In this book, Amelia's family goes on a roamin' vacation and when Amelia hears this, she thinks they are going to Rome, however, the family is just planning to roam not far from where they live to discover new things.

Ugh. I am just not a fan of Amelia Bedelia. Clara said, “I liked it, but I like Junie B. better!”
The story line of this one: a road trip with the family is cute and enjoyable and focuses on the family time rather than on the destination which was refreshing. I’m just don’t like Amelia Bedelia as a character. I don’t think she’s very lovable.

I think Ms. Bedelia is better off as a somewhat ridiculous adult, not so much a kid who doesn't get subtle nuances. Especially when her mother (who should know how her daughter's mind works) gets upset when she things Amelia insulted someone.

I got a set of 4 Amelia Bedelia chapter books as a gift from my great-aunt. I wasn't really sure about these books because I'm only five and some of the word puns and idioms go over my head. Amelia is so goofy though and has such crazy things happen to her that the books are fun anyway.

Isaac found this in a little free library. While he enjoyed it, I found the gender roles to be pretty old school and assume the jokes would be funnier read instead of read aloud (lots of puns that went over Isaac’s head).

She was scared to go on a road trip, but then in the middle of nowhere her car broke down. She had solutions to go back where she needed to go.

My favorite carter is Audrey because kind and nice. What surprised me the most was when Amelia and Audrey won the fishing contest. I wouldn't change the ending because it ends on a good note.
