Secrets are little time-bombs just waiting to explode.
After six years and too much self-recrimination, rancher Mitch Landry is ready to admit he was wrong. He’d been in love with Olivia Montgomery but he hadn’t been ready for the lifetime commitment. That was his first mistake. He’s divorced his second. He’ll not make the same mistake twice and he’ll do whatever it take to convince Olivia to give them a second chance.
Through hard work, determination and more than a few tears, Olivia Montgomery survived the break-up with the love of her life. She’s rebuilt her life around her business and the son she loves more than life itself. She’s not proud of the mistakes she’s made—particularly the secret she’s kept—but when life serves up manure, you use it to mold yourself into something better.
At a hot, muggy Dallas wedding, they reconnect. Olivia’s first instinct is to play it cool, but after one devastating kiss things quickly flare out of control. A quick night together should dampen those flames but instead only feeds the fires burning and now she’s left trying to protect the secret she’s held on to for all these years.
Born and raised in Arkansas. After wandering the world for 17 years (okay, it was Memphis, but it felt like another world!), I've made it home again. I live in a small vine covered cottage on the shores of a 8,000 acre lake with 2 dogs, a bitchy parrot and my fisherman husband. Live is good.
Started out beautifully. Two very likable mcs, an adorable kid and great secondary characters and an intriguing back story as college sweethearts. Their past choices and decisions promise an interesting story with some serious sorting out and forgiveness required. They acknowledged (to themselves) that they love each other right at the beginning. The first two chapters draw you right in with their undeniably amazing chemistry.
And then things went south. And it was not just because of the conflict over the secret son, but we get a lot of narrative without any insight at important junctures. The writing that showed brilliance in flashes retreated to disappointing, being unclear or vague about the important issues (both past and present).
My joint review with Karla posted at: Swept Away By Romance What worked Kathleen says: The chemistry that Olivia and Mitch shared SIZZLED off the pages. I could really feel their attraction to one another. I REALLY liked all the characters throughout this book with the exception of Joanna, Mitch’s ex-wife, but what’s a romance without some type of villain getting in the way of the H&h’s happiness. Karla says: The Texas setting and the time Olivia, Mitch and Adam spent on the ranch. They started to become the family they were meant to be. Mitch and Adam together...melted my heart! Ummm...that cover...5 STARS!!!
What didn’t work Kathleen says: I felt that some of the decisions that both the hero Mitch and the heroine Olivia made during the course of this book were not too bright. I must say that in the world of romance books without those decisions the book may have been boring. So did these scenes really not work in the end? NO EPILOGUE! Cynthia did go back and wrote a prologue which I read and loved. I wish she would have added an epilogue too. Karla says: I'm not a fan of deception and even though Mitch was partially to blame for their split, Olivia found anything and everything to keep them apart. Too much back and forth. It got to the point of ridiculous. I never felt that she gave him the chance he deserved and had she been honest with him, like she was with his parents...didn't quite get why they knew her secret and he didn't...he would have been there for her. I just didn't get the relationship with Drake and what he was to Olivia. I mean I know what he did for her, but to be ready to do it again, no...didn't work for me.
Best scene(s) Kathleen says: When Olivia and Mitch were at their friends wedding rehearsal and they were asked to act out the bride and grooms rolls, going through the whole walking down the aisle and taking the vows. When Mitch kissed her, OH MY, it was out of this word HOT! The arguing scenes these two had when Mitch first found out that Adam was his child. When Olivia finally told Adam that Mitch was his dad, this scene was PRICELESS!! Every scene with Adam (Olivia and Mitch’s son) this kid was too cute. I loved how excited he was when he was with Mitch doing work on the ranch. The ending when Mitch explained everything to Olivia and purposed marriage to her. Karla says: The wedding rehearsal...YOWZA! And...all the sexy good times between Mitch and Olivia! Mitch and Adam...I enjoyed every minute they were together. The author did a brilliant job writing those scenes, you could really feel the father-son connection!
Favorite character(s) Kathleen says: Don’t laugh, but for me, I LOVED ADAM, he stole my heart, made me smile and laugh. Karla says: Mitch was great, but it was Adam who stole my heart. Magda too, and I hope that somewhere along the line we get to see her again, finding her someone special to love! Overall Thoughts Kathleen says: I really enjoyed how this book made me feel while I was reading it. I thought Cynthia D’Alba did an EXCELLENT job on this book considering it was her debut novel. It kept me interested all the way through, and I had a hard time putting it down. My overall rating on this book is 4 BIG STARS! I KNOW I’ll be reading more of Cynthia’s romances, as a matter of fact my plan is to read book two, Texas Tango very soon. ~ 4 Stars!
Karla says: I really enjoyed , Texas Two Step: The Prequel, the short that is the set-up for this book and is a MUST read. I was curious to see where Olivia and Mitch's relationship would go. I liked Olivia a lot in that book, but she annoyed the heck out of me in this one. Mitch, loved him in both books, and although he had a small case of the stupids, his heart was in the right place. Bottom line, he was a good man and didn't deserve the curveball that Olivia threw at him. Then again, it was the basis for the story and while some readers enjoy this kind of drama, it's not really my thing. Olivia's reasons for deceiving Mitch never rang true for me. I will say this though, the author did a lot of things right! She has a way of making the reader feel the characters emotions, and maybe that's why I was so mad with Olivia, because I sympathized with Mitch and hurt as much as he did. Also, Cynthia D'Alba knows her way around a sex scene...very sensual and passionate...she's does between the sheets very well! Last but not least, Adam. Very few authors write kids in an adult romance well, and I felt the author did an amazing job. All that being said, I might not have liked the story all that much, but I like the author's writing style, and I'll be back for more! ~ 3 .5 Stars!
This came up as a free read, so I downloaded it and skimmed through it again. It was still fun but I do wish there had been an epilogue. I had to take away a star on the re-read. Mitch told her 6 years ago that he wasn't the marrying kind. Then he goes and marries his recently deceased brother's fiancee because she is pregnant... Olivia is left to swing in the wind. She's pregnant, but she's damned if she's going to tell him now. Normally I hate when the woman doesn't let the father know, but I think in those circumstances, it was a tough call. So too much time passes, and they end up meeting again at the wedding of their mutual friends. Of course eventually Mitch finds out about his kid, and feel all hard-done-by. Things would have worked out well if there weren't some evil OW drama. I'll try another in this series, cause I love a good cowboy romance. He grovels well, but I wish there had been more culpability for the OW... as usual.
I felt the story lacked anything substantial as far as a plot.
The progression of events seemed so forced and unnatural, not at all like something that might really happen. The transitions were abrupt and disjointed.
And for the love of good books everywhere, couldn't we have gotten an introduction minus the unabashed sexual perusing? I don't mind sex and the attraction that pulls people together but, for the love of all things romantic, let us get to know the characters a little before traipsing into a lust filled passion in an airport. So not classy!
Parts of the story just don't add up--the timeline for the break-up, the pregnancy, the marriages...It was too awkward and the math didn't add up. The chain of events was bizarre and didn't seem very structured or logical.
The way Mitch acts annoyed the heck out of me...not only possessive but bossy! And, not a in a playful way. He was too arrogant and over the top with the ego at times and I just didn't like his character. Olivia probably should have told him about his son but it was somewhat understandable why she initially decided against it. Still, she should have said something before the five year mark.
The story ends abruptly considering there was another 3 month interval from the time Olivia left Mitch on the ranch to when he reappeared again. The story just magically picked up, wrapped up a happy ending and dropped off.
Nothing particularly captivating about the ending, it really felt hastily thrown together and lacked imagination and originality.

Mitch Landry didn’t think the time was right for Olivia to settle down with him six years ago, so he walked away from her hoping that she would experience more of life and be ready to jump in then. However, six months after leaving her, he married his deceased brother’s pregnant girlfriend. Mitch wanted to give the unborn child a name; he thought he was doing the honorable thing. Now Mitch is back, ready to make amends for his decisions in the past and admit fault for hurting Olivia. At least he was until he discovers what Olivia has been hiding from him all these years and now Mitch is madder than a hornet!
Olivia Montgomery Gentry made her own decisions and moved on with her life the best way she knew how, especially because Mitch had left her with a parting gift. One that she will do ANYTHING to protect! Olivia has one divorce in her past, but she can’t truly regret that marriage because her ex had helped her through so much, and he still plays a role in her life. However, Olivia doesn’t want Mitch to think they can take up where they left off, and she really doesn’t want him to discover her secret—a secret that apparently everyone knows about, but Mitch! Texas Two Step is a captivating, accomplished love story. It kept me engaged and renewed my love of romance stories.
Texas Two Step saved Mitch for me by providing his POV, because without it, I wouldn’t have minded him standing behind a horse or two. He really did come across as that donkey’s behind, but what came out of his mouth didn’t always mesh with his thoughts. Texas Two Step had Olivia coming across as being full of pride and this further explained her keeping the secret from Mitch. Who would want him on those terms? Well, obviously the ex-wife did, but that is another story. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that Texas Two Step had Olivia moving on with her life after Mitch rather than staying celibate and hoping and waiting for him to come back. It was nice to see that while he felt his marriage shouldn’t bother her because it was family obligations, hers definitely bothered him.
Texas Two Step is a recommended read because I got both POVs, and Mitch and Olivia were equal in the mistakes that they ultimately made, but they both had good intentions. I found myself flipping from one side to the other throughout Texas Two Step as things were revealed. I didn’t agree with the characters’ choices in their past, but I felt that the author fully justified their reasoning for making those decisions. Ultimately, I felt Mitch and Olivia were completely sorry for the selections that they made, and they saw the other’s perspective as well. In the end, Mitch just wants to work through the hindrances of the past and build a future together and, frankly, I was happy for them in the end of Texas Two Step.
Wow, this one was angsty, but ultimately a great love story. My heart was breaking for them both at the beginning as they realized that time had only strengthened their attraction and love. But oh, my, how I was yelling at Olivia near the end. Seriously, lol. I was saying "TALK TO HIM!! Don't be an idiot!!" In my car. :-) I can't believe she'd believe so easily, knowing how vindictive Joanna was. Especially when her own experiences had told her something so completely different. Even Magda told her something completely different!
I loved how Olivia and Mitch came together and cared for Adam... they really tried to do what was in his best interest, even if each wanted to take him and run. I don't blame Olivia for her actions. I have no idea how she could get everyone to keep quiet... it had been five years!! But it ended up being a great story about reunited love. It ended a bit abruptly... I'd have liked an epilogue to have a hint of what happened next, but this was a book 1, so hopefully we'll see more of Mitch and Olivia in the next one(s).
Texas Two Step kept me on an emotional roller coaster, there were moments I wanted Mitch and Olivia together and moments I wanted her to kick him in his junk. Olivia is a strong women, who right or wrong, made some tough decisions and is now paying the price for them. Mitch is a determined man, who bless his sexy lil' soul, had to admit he was wrong. He finally sees the light and destroys his douchebag crown for good and ends up being a man dreams are made of.
Great read, loved both the primary and secondary characters. This would have been a five star read for me had it not ended so abruptly and had a epilogue. There were too many loose ends, hopefully we'll get more of Mitch, Olivia, Adam, Magda, and Drake in Travis' book Texas Tango next month!!!
*Many thanks to Karla for another great recommendation!! xo
Texas Two Step by Cynthia D’Alba Secret baby. Hot and steamy reconciliation. First in the Texas Montgomery Mavericks series.
I don’t like when characters lie to each other or themselves even if it’s to protect from being hurt. Or if they take gossip or vindictive exes as gospel. Talk to each other! In the end they worked through the anger and emotions after plenty of time together to benefit the family. But it was lots of ups and downs in this book. The saving piece was little Adam. His stomping boots and mimicking habits were adorable.
Great debut novel by author Cynthia D'Alba being released Feb 28, 2012 by Samhain Publishing.
Sexy cowboy, a reunion at a wedding, a big secret, a rekindled romance, humor - what more do you need to get your read on? A very sexy bit of eye candy on the cover, wouldn't you say?
Mitch is a 6'4" cowboy with a chiseled body, long dark hair, blue eyes, sexy stubble, a "toe curling" grin, a kiss that "could make a nun question her vows" and a Stetson. It has been six years since Mitch has seen his former flame, Olivia. But he thinks she looks awesome today. However her face shows "resignation and a frown" when she see him; not exactly the reaction he was looking for.
Olivia is really not thrilled about seeing Mitch again and of course when he finds her in the airport she's upset she didn't have time to get all dolled up to see him. She's come straight from work at the gym against her wishes. She thinks she looks like "someone who'd been yanked from a Sweating With the Oldies video." She really had hoped to avoid him as much as possible at the wedding this weekend because she's hiding a big secret.
Has a really funny simile: "...her resolve collapsed like a cheap lawn chair." Another thing I like about this story is both the lead characters are divorced. And there is just the right amount of conflict even if you know what Olivia's secret is from early on. Mitch's solution to their problem is an interesting one as is the ending of the book.
I read this in one sitting; started it at 9 pm and the next thing I know I've reached the end and it is 1:45 am.
Cynthia is responsible for this paranormal romance and urban fantasy fanatic falling hard for cowboys. I won a contest and she sent me a book with two of Vicki Lewis Thompson's stories in it. Then came Ann Mayburn's Wild Lilly, and now with D'Alba's Texas Two Step, I'm hooked on cowboys. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this book today and see what cowboys have to offer.
Huh? What just happened? I was happily reading away and ... the book ended. I'm assuming they got their HEA although it happened so quickly I can't be sure! At 94% the story was done and I was left hoping there was another quick chapter at the very least or an epilogue to tie the story up. Nope, nada. I just don't get it. The H & h spend 90% of the book pissed off at each other, pushing each other away, fighting the "pull" then it sort of gets wrapped up in the last couple of paragraphs. Me no likey short, abrupt endings!!! Such a let down of what could have been a good read.
I loved the premise, but man oh man, apart from the abrupt ending the characters really pissed me off ... big time. I really can't get over how he treated her and she just accepted it, no begging for forgiveness, no apology, nothing. Mitch was a dick of epic proportions and she kept on going back for more. Really?
The H really pulled a blinder at the beginning of the book and because of his actions the h hid a secret from him. Damn straight. Then SHE apologises to HIM because he expects it! GAH!! The h needs a massive dose of self respect or a serious wake-up call.
Why Texas Two Step is a Red Hot Read: I’m notoriously picky about romances set in Texas, as I’m sure anyone feels about their home state. To my thought, very few writers who aren’t from Texas (and some who are) portray Texas as anything but a stereotype. In Texas Two Step, Cynthia D’Alba’s hero Mitch is a rancher, but he’s more than the stereotypical cowboy.
Six years ago, his love affair with Olivia circled the drain because of Mitch’s misguided loyalty to his brother. Now, he wants Olivia back. But it’s going to take a lot more than a simple “I’m sorry” to win her over because all those years ago he left Olivia with something more than just a broken heart. Ms. D’Alba does a fabulous job with an emotionally charged reunion story and the does justice to both big-city and small-town Texas. You can buy Texas Two Step in ebook now, or pre-order for the print version to be released in January, 2013!
Story of Mitch and Olivia and their second chance at a HEA. So we know going into this that these two broke up six years ago, Mitch married someone else-is divorced now, and Olivia's been keeping a secret all these years. I don't think it should be a shocker or spoiler that the secret is a kid. The book starts alright, the first few chapters have the H & h reuniting...their chemistry is still there, then everything gets wonky.
*I'll tag any spoilers, but if you're using the goodreads app, they won't be hidden* I had several issues, first the plot didn't have a lot of substance. Parts felt forced, and not plausible. The reasoning for his marrying Joanna was ridiculous , the fact that she married someone else (Drake) months after the breakup while she's pregnant, and that his family kept him in the dark about it all....far fetched.
I may have to hand over my lady card, cuz I'm in the minority, but I felt what Olivia did was shitty. I'm shocked that so many readers are pissed off at Mitch. yet she made a decision to cut him from his son's life then said "Oh, I was thinking of what was best for you, but later said she hated him, and threatened his parents. I'm totally down for the dude groveling for breaking her heart, but keeping his son a secret seems pretty extreme and crazy....bitter much? Being a shitty partner and a shitty parent are two totally different things. It all just didn't make sense, and don't even get me started on her treatment of Drake. Add in Joanna who literally dropped into the story, then disappeared and it was a bit of shit stew. Then POOF the story just ends abruptly. So yeah 260 pages of drama, we get six pages to tie it all up. Overall, it's ok-not great, but not terrible. I wouldn't recommend buying it, but if you find it free (I received a copy on freebie Friday) give it a shot. There is a lengthy series surrounding the family-9 books.
Although a bit predictable, I enjoyed this second chance at love story. Olivia Montgomery Gentry is a divorced single mother who meets Mitch Landry, who is the love of her life, after six years apart. When Mitch comes to Dallas to be the Best Man opposite Olivia’s Maid of Honor at their friend’s wedding, sparks fly between them. Will Olivia be able to get over the hurt Mitch caused her in the past after he rejected her because he wasn’t ready to be tied down, and then married another woman six months later? Now that Mitch is divorced and has matured enough to realize just what he lost six years ago, he’s determined that Olivia won’t get away from him this time. There are secrets and misunderstandings that they need to work through, but once they do, they’ll have a chance to make up for lost time and be happy together. I liked the characters, although I really question some of the choices Olivia made in the past, as well as the naiveté that Mitch showed towards his ex-wife. Olivia’s son Adam is a delightful little scamp, and I enjoyed all of his interactions with the adults. All in all, I enjoyed this story, it was well worth reading, and I’ll look for more from this author in the future.
This was a VERY enjoyable read...in one day. This was totally my kind of book! In short, Mitch & Livie are college sweethearts. Mitch ends up breaking it off and crushing her heart. It's six years later and, they are reunited at their best friends' wedding. The old feelings come rushing back...the rest is history as they say. Most of the book is about them rekindling their romance with a secret in the mix. Nice romantic/sexy parts too.
Great book! I look forward to more in this series. There was a lot to take in with the big 'secret' and the fall-out after everyone found out. My only compalint with it was that I wanted a little more at the end of the book. Maybe an Epilogue? But we will likely see more of these characters in the rest of the series.
I love old flames reuniting and secret babies. This book had both. It also managed to do that without making you angry with either character. Though there is a villainess that you'll want to choke. Other than her there are several other supporting cast that you'll love. I was drawn in from the first.
I really enjoyed this book. Loved the great plot, that just happens to be one of my favorites to read. I can get into this kind of story, where they've both made some mistakes. It's what you do with them, right ? Well, in this engaging story, they both did the wrong thing for what they felt, at the time, was the right thing to do. It made some good reading and I really got into the story. Like I said, they both messed up. Mitch had made a bad choice and it cost him dearly. Now, admittedly, he got played and I really did not like the person that did it. Just as I got mad at some of the things he did. D'Alba gave me what I was looking for here, cause I'm not happy with a story when the hero doesn't act like a jerk at least a few times. Don't know why. It's just the way it is. Anyway, I wasn't digging Mitch at first and I was loving that. I loved Olivia from the beginning. She was a strong chick and a good person. She loved her man with a passion that refused to die. The guy dumped her and she picked her little self up and moved on. Okay, so she hid some stuff from him. I'm thinking that I might have done the same thing. After all, he made his choice. So good on her, for not begging her way back. Given the situation I don't see how she could've done anything else. Still, when everything came out she did the right thing when it mattered most. Did Mitch appreciate that ? Nope. He's still acting like a jerk and I was finding it hard to like him. The story was rich in emotions and D'Alba did a great job here. This was a couple who had a lot to work through. Anger, resentment, guilt, led to some serious misunderstandings. Along with some help from their exes. Okay, it was mostly the viper-ish ex wife, who I could not stand. No sympathy at all for that woman, and when you read the story you're sure to hate her too. Olivia's used-to-be... I kinda liked. This story had a stellar cast of secondary characters that added a lot to the story. The kid was too damn adorable. The quirky housekeeper and the whole family, they all had some impact on the story and how it played out. And I appreciated that, it gave the story a more layered feeling. Kinda like it's headed towards a series and I really hope it does. I'd love to read more from this author, especially about Olivia's, as yet unseen but often mentioned, brothers. So let me run it down for you. This book had a lot going for it that I really dug. It had an entertaining plot with some really likeable characters as well as some I disliked intensely. It had some sweet but hot as hell love scenes and I was loving those. You gotta know I was all over that. I t was pretty much perfect with all the angst I could handle. In fact, it had me all over the place as I was reading along. I loved the wonderful characters I found here in this story. Even as I was being mad at Mitch, I still felt some sympathy for the guy who basically cheated himself. The only thing that I didn't get was how Mitch kept thinking that he wasn't sure he had made the right choice all those years ago. Ya think ? I absolutely adored Olivia for her strength and the depth of love she had for her family. I've already mentioned the other characters and how much they brought to the party. Oh, and the immense potential for more goodness from this talented writer. Bring on the series, Ms. D'Alba. I'm more than ready for it. Overall, this was a great read and I'm gonna give it four flying stars.
I really enjoyed this book. The basic story line was not anything new, but I thought Cynthia D'Alba wrote it really well. I loved Olivia's character. She has every reason to be bitter and harsh with Mitch, but every time those feelings rise up, she steps back to take a look at things from his point of view. I loved that about her and that aspect of her personality really made this book for me.
This book is about two people who were desperately in love, but then they got caught up in circumstances beyond their control and were swept up in actions and events which turned out to be mistakes. Now they are having to learn and recover from those mistakes (both of them.)
One of the things that made this book so good was the huge supporting cast of characters. It seems like the rest of this series is going to work around Olivia's brothers, but I hope we get to see some more of some of the other characters from this book.
*Drake- Olivia's ex-husband who is more like a brother, but he stepped up to help when she found out she was pregnant and so devastated by Mitch's break-up and subsequent marriage that she didn't know how to function.
*Magda- Mitch's 22 yo, tattooed housekeeper...LOVED her and REALLY hoping that we get to see more of her and Drake...there was definitely a certain chemistry between the two of them... and Magda's story is really intriguing and would make for a great romance. *crossing my fingers*
*Mitch's parents- they knew Olivia's secret and kept it for her against their will, but they still offered a great support system for Olivia. I loved that about them.
Those were the characters who really made an impact on the story for me. In the periphery were Olivia's brothers although we didn't see a whole lot of them in this book. It sounds like they all have very unique stories.
Overall this was a fun afternoon's read and I am so glad that I listened to the devil on my shoulder urging me to push that one-push-buy button and made this impulse buy.
This is Cynthia D'Alba's debut book. Mitch Landry meets Olivia Montgomery in a bar when she and her friend are there to celebrate their 21st birthdays. He's attracted right away but then finds out who she is and that she's his friends sister. Oh off limits. He can't fight the attraction though and they go on a date. Things are great for a while and then he breaks her heart when he breaks off the relationship. He says he's doing it for her. He thinks she's to young to be that serious and he's going back home to a ranch in the middle of no where. Thing is 6 month later he marries another woman breaking Olivia's heart again. This is all part of a prequel the story you can read on Cynthia D'Alba's website. The book starts out six years later when Olivia's best friend Emily and Wes, Mitch's friends wedding. Sparks fly right from the get go but Olivia's got a really big secret she doesn't want Mitch to find out. No matter how much Olivia want to avoid it the attraction is to much and they get together. Secrets rarely stay secrets forever and Olivia's secret is out when it shows up at her house while Mitch is still there. This story is a tangled mess of emotions and people trying to do the right thing. Can Mitch and Olivia wade through the mess to find happiness together finally? Love my cowboys and this one measures up nicely. I liked Mitch. He had a few rough edges and bonehead moments but he came through when it counted. I doubt know what i would have done in Olivia's shoes if what happened to her happened to me. That was a tough call and i think the author took the path that many of us would've. Great writing and i can't wait to see read the next book in this series.
Six years after Mitch Landry broke off his very serious relationship with Olivia Montgomery with him using the excuse that she was very young and needed to date other people, the two are forced back into each other's company for their best friends' wedding. Much has happened in this time, both have been married and both divorced and now there's a child and a secret involved that can make or break their lives.
When the pretty blonde, Olivia, shows up at the airport to pick her ex- Mitch up at the airport she thought she might have put her feelings for the hot rancher aside. BIG MISTAKE. One look from Mitch and Olivia knows she going to be in big trouble, only thing, she has a super huge secret that she must keep from Mitch. Even though he says nothing to Olivia, Mitch is still in love with the feisty lady and when he arrives, it with hopes that they may rekindle what he basically threw aside.
Other factors may be strikes against this relationship though, such as a paleontologist ex- husband, a snot-nosed ex-wife and a cute as a button five year old. I will say no more, you just have to trust me on this and pick up Texas Two Step by Cynthia D'Alba and Texas Two Step: Prequel that gives the back-story to book one. What can I say? I picked this book up at 11pm last night as closed it on the last page at almost 3am this morning. I truly enjoyed this and I am eager to read any follow-ups to this series. Cynthia D'Alba is a great writer that keeps the reader's attention with her wit and her story. I highly recommend her reads! 41/2 Stars
I can't remember a time I detested a heroine so much I rated the book purely on that. She went from being a somewhat sympathetic figure to utter....urgh, I haven't the words. She completely spoilt the reading experience for me. Yes the hero was a douche in the past, nothing new there, but Misunderstandings are all well and good but an attempt to clear things up need to be made and to condemn without trial, unforgivable. I know this is stock in trade for romance novel authors but this was outside of enough. The H needed to find some other woman who'd give two hoots for him. Rant Review over.
Wow I loved this book! I couldn't put it down and practically read it in one sitting. It was a roller coaster of different emotions. I laughed and cried so make sure you have tissues at hand. I liked that the emotional reactions were true to real life. When Mitch found out about Olivia's secret Mitch was mad and devastated and Ms. D' Alba wrote with true emotions and actions. I think to many times authors play down such reactions. Olivia and Mitch are great characters and Adam will steal your heart. There is a cast of secondary characters that just help to make this book fabulous. I can't wait to read more.
I hated that I didn't read the little prequel that had Olivia's and Mitch's story six years before this book. I didn't feel like I was missing anything since the author did a wonderful job of brining me up to speed on what went on.
I just hate that Mitch had a lot of growing up to do and he missed the woman that was truly meant for him instead of that gold digging woman that was going to marry his brother.
I enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read the next one in the series. I know that I will love it.
I went into this one thinking it would be a quick read and got sucked into a really good story, some steamy romance, a second chance at love (I am a sucker for a good second chance story)and engaging characters and a conniving bitch of an ex-wife...the type of character you love to hate in these stories. Great read!
I really enjoyed this story. The plot was mostly predictable, but the characters were very likeable and the story line held my attention throughout the book. I found myself reading way past my lights out time, always a sign of a good read.
