NETTY Treyjan Charell is such a douche. The last sort of guy I would EVER date. But he saved me from the awful hands of a wicked rock 'n' roll crowd. And the way he strokes his guitar gives me bats instead of butterflies. If I could, I'd have just a taste, just one little lick, and get the hell out of there before he ruins me. Then again, maybe I want to be ruined. TREYJAN Netty Forester is such a shithead. Seriously, I wouldn't date her in a million years. But her tearstained face and the soft warmth of her body wrapped in my arms is burned in my memory. She thinks she can look at me all wide-eyed and innocent like that and walk away unscathed? If I could, I'd hide her away from it all—the sex, the drugs, the rock 'n' roll—keep her shining soul away from my tarnish, but those things … they're a part of who I am. The question do I introduce her to my world or let her go? SCREW UP- gritty rockstar romance. This book can be read on its own, or as book #10 in the HARD ROCK ROOTS (Book #1, REAL UGLY, is FREE to download from Amazon)
C.M. Stunich is a self-admitted bibliophile with a love for exotic teas and a whole host of characters who live full time inside the strange, swirling vortex of her thoughts. Some folks might call this crazy, but Caitlin Morgan doesn't mind - especially considering she has to write biographies in the third person. Oh, and half the host of characters in her head are searing hot bad boys with dirty mouths and skillful hands (among other things). If being crazy means hanging out with them everyday, C.M. has decided to have herself committed.
She hates tapioca pudding, loves to binge on cheesy horror movies, and is a slave to many cats. When she's not vacuuming fur off of her couch, C.M. can be found with her nose buried in a book or her eyes glued to a computer screen. She's the author of over thirty novels - romance, new adult, fantasy, and young adult included. Please, come and join her inside her crazy. There's a heck of a lot to do there.
Oh, and Caitlin loves to chat (incessantly), so feel free to e-mail her, send her a Facebook message, or put up smoke signals. She's already looking forward to it.
I grab Netty's hand and tug her into the waves with me. Water rushes around my legs, frothing against my calves and I'm trying to remember the last time I came to the beach, stood in the ocean, did something with a girl other than party and fuck. Not a lot of memories coming to mind here. It's definitely been a while. And now I'm wondering what the hell I've been doing with my life? Because if it wasn't this, then what was the point?
Alright I have exactly three topics I want to touch on for this book. 1) The Hard Rock Roots series is one of my absolute favorite series. Ever. Full stop. I love the characters, I love the mystery, I love the drama, I love the romance, I love the banter, I love the rock n roll, the drugs, the sex, I love Turner Motherfucking Campbell… I love everything. Every-fucking-thing. That being said, I didn't love how the last book ended. Well, to be more specific, I wasn't totally sold on the fact they all live in the same house with their assorted children. But it seems to be working so, whatever, I guess. I wasn't sure how this book would work out considering that basically a nine book story arc had been wrapped up last time. It's about a year later and it works, but I still wish this had been longer, though that could just be my desire to basically live in this world. So anyway, Trey's trying to figure out what the hell his life is really all about now that all his bandmates are living happily in wedded bliss. And Netty is on the run from the darkness of her past. We all know how Turner feels about secrets, and how well they work out for this group, so I'm glad she doesn't keep her story locked up for too long. I was never a fan of how they kept Trey mostly in the dark when all the other shit goes down, so I'm glad he's not only included more but that we get to hear more about him. I like Trey and Netty a lot, so I'm looking forward to more of them. 2) The fucking cliffhanger! Gah, I should have seen it coming really, but it still sucks. At the end of the book, it says book 11 will be Kash's story, but there's no release date or even any information that I can find on it, though I didn't look very hard. I just hope it will intersect with this one, because I just don't want to have to wait longer yet to find out what happens next. 3) TYPOS. So many typos. Mostly words that were spelled wrong. I don't mean like using the wrong there, their, or they're. I mean like 'think' instead of 'thin', and then there were ones like 'myself' instead of 'himself'. Honestly it was just annoying, I think I mentioned this last time too, I don't know if these last few books just aren't edited very well or if they've all been like this and I just never noticed. Regardless, I'm noticing now and it's often enough that pulls you out of the story to re-read the line a few times to figure out what the fuck is going on. It's seriously annoying. No matter what though, I still love this series. These characters could spend their day doing laundry and cleaning what I imagine has to be dozens of toilets in that house of theirs and I would read the fuck out of it. Hurry up and write more, Ms. C.M. Stunich, write more Turner Motherfucking Campbell and all the rest of them and then take my fucking money.
"Why? Are you looking to fill the part?" "I think I already did," I blurt and she pulls her shades off completely, giving me a look like she's almost positive I'm some crazy, semi-rabid groupie come to pull a Yoko Ono over on Indecency. I laugh again - another pretty unfortunate sound. I'm not an idiot or anything. I'm not completely lacking in social graces, but this? There's no way to prepare for anything as crazy as marrying a rock star at your cousin/best friend's bachelorette party while you're dressed in a tank top covered in black Labrador fur and drunk off Pabst Blue Ribbon. There's just no fucking way. "I guess I'm one of those idiots that has a wedding in a fly-by-night chapel on the side of the road," I say as I hold up my hand so Naomi can see the rings. Her face takes on this half-amused, half-annoyed sort of expression. "I'm one of those idiots, too," she says, holding up her own hand so I can see a tattooed ring on her finger.

When Netty makes no move to duck out from under my arm, I reach up and slide my (unbroken) fingers across the side of her face. The sigh that escapes her lips is a twisted mess of emotions, this fucking whisper of breath across pink-pink lips. I wonder what she tastes like? I mean, I'm assuming we kissed the other night, but I don't remember any of it. Seems like sort of a trend in this place, forgetting the most important shit. How do you think Turner and Naomi met? One forgetful night turned into forever. Could I have that? Would I even fucking want it if it dropped into my lap in the form of some weird, clumsy, awkward girl? My hand slides down and cups the back of her neck, pulling her towards me for a kiss. Those glossy lips … as soft as they look, my friend. Our mouths meet with an easy brush of skin on skin, and even though I meant to push this as far as I could get it, take Netty's lips as my own with a bruising, crushing force, that's not what happens. Instead, this first remembered meeting of our mouths is easy and gentle, like some fucking storybook kiss or something.

"Did you just say mm while looking at my ass?" "No!" I gasp as he comes to a sudden stop in the middle of the aisle - and I keep right on going. I end up slamming the cart into the backs of his legs. "Jesus Christ, woman," he snaps with gritted teeth, turning around and yanking the cart from my grip. "I've never met anyone in my life that was so damn accident prone. The fuck is wrong with you? Are you trying to kill me?" Treyjan pauses and then lets those wicked sexy lips of his tilt up in a slight smirk. "Or is my ass just so damn mesmerizing you couldn't see straight?" "I wasn't saying mmm, like yummy. I was saying mm, like a sound of acknowledgement." "A sound of acknowledgement about how hot my ass is?"
~
My mouth curves into a smile that is in no way a smirk. Inside, my heart flutters in a way I'll never admit to anyone. I think I might have a crush on my own wife. How fucking weird is that? After dinner, Netty and I head to Huntington Beach in my convertible and I swear, my eyes are glued to that chick's dark hair whipping around her face. At one stoplight, I end up reaching over and scooping some of it away from her lips. The way her mouth parts as she looks over at me … it's goddamn magical. Dude, you are so losing it, I tell myself as we accelerate and Netty leans her head back, lifting her arms up and letting the warm air rush over her with this look on her face that comes pretty close to ecstasy. I'd like to see if I could push her all the way, make her lips part and her eyes widen in pleasure.
First let me start off by saying CM Stunich is a great storyteller - I devoured her Groupie Series and anyone that has read the first 9 Hard Rock Roots books knows it takes devotion and patience because the stories are that good - Now for this book - I was immediately intrigued by the amount of ratings vs reviews of this book. I can say that I loved Treyjan Charrell and couldn't wait for his book, but not far into it I was made aware of the lack of editing, the misuse of words and even though the cliffhanger was expected, the book ending at 89% was not. This book is $3.99 - I paid for it - therefore I am entitled to my rant - Sorry to everyone that thinks I should be "nice" - The 3 stars given are for the characters and even the story line however I would have loved to have given it 5 stars if I didn't feel ripped off or taken advantage of. This author deserves better if she has editors or beta readers and quite frankly so do I. Screw Up for me is way more than a title.
I'm surprised, positively, by my own reading discipline to really read all those books in 10 weeks without missing a day. I'm also surprised, positively, by Stunich that she managed to keep me interested, almost addicted, to a series starring two Hard Rock Bands and people with tattoos who abuse alcohol, drugs and people. If someone would have told me that I would enjoy this, no matter how far out of my usual comfort zone this is, I would have laughed in their face.
The previous book missed some tension, as it was the beginning of the happily ever after for the starring characters, but this book starts a new story arc and all the tension returns with it. All the drama, the conflicted feelings, the fights, the hate-love relationship, the passionate kissing and passionate breaking up, it is back in this book and on full force. And once more I drank it in and enjoyed it to the fullest.
In this book Stunich starts a new mystery, completely outside the rock scene, not linked to the rock bands themselves. But just like the previous mystery we already get to see the dark themes underlying. Stunich doesn't shy away from hard topics and this book is no exception. Although we only hear the stories of what has happened and what could happen, I already felt the shivers rolling down my spine thinking of it.
That was partly because Netty was such a relatable character. Unlike the Rock Band Netty is a lot more like me. She's intelligent, has her life on track, doesn't drink or smoke, never visits concerts. She's the prototype good girl. I love how she and Treyjan meet and how she finds the softer side of him, how she slowly thaws his heart and how she helps him to slowly become his own person, instead of a Turner copy. It was nice to see him grow, it was also nice to see her discover the pleasure of living. I know that right now the sequel isn't in the making yet, but as soon as it will be released, I will order and read it.
Absolutely LOVE this series. Anytime a book comes out in this series, I am one clicking no matter what. CM is an amazing storyteller, and yes the queen of cliffhangers but that just makes me want to read her books that much more. Treyjan & Netty shouldn't be together, they are complete opposites but the night Trey saved Netty both their lives changed. Love seeing all the Hard Rock Roots gang especially Turner Campbell and I'm dying too know what is going too happen next.
Been 3 years with this cliff hanger and still waiting for an ending.... Dying to Know what's happened... Please finish the story that was meant to be a stand alone read but ended with a cliff hanger and like 28% left with advertising other books after .. What happened between Trey and Netty? Did they save her sister? Did they fal in love? What happened 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️.. Longest wait ever I'm dying here lol.. I loved this series this was my second read forgot bout cliff hanger 😭😭😭
I'm reviewing my own copy of this book for Wicked Reads
i'm such a fan of the hard rock roots series! Treyjan is a great character. a Turner wanna be, not always, but definitely close! I love it though, you cant have too many douchey hot musicians in super tight pants! The two men have been friends forever but since Turner is now married and not as much into partying, Treyjan has been lonely. Meet Netty, who's much more than she appears to be, running from a crazy cult leader and living a double life. Of course Trey cant fall for an easy girl! It's a short story but packs a punch and pages (as they always do in this series) flew by and I was sad it ended!
I absolutely love the cast of characters in the Hard Rock Roots stories! This is Trejan's story and in it we get to meet the woman that catches his eye and possibly his heart. Trey is trying to find himself in this story and seems a bit lonely and lost as his band mates embrace love and relationships and stop with the heavy drugs. He even wants to stop being seen as a Turner Campbell clone. Who is Trey and what's happens next? You'll have to wait and see because this story ends in a major cliffy!
Nooo.. This can't be the last book?! In the last paragraph it said "to be continued". Can someone confirm that for me? This series grew on me. I remember reading the 1st book & thinking to myself "ok, enough with this Turner idiot. Naomi deserves better than that(him)"..
Trey & Netty.. I'm just not into the "insta-love" in books, but Trey went through so much in this series I didn't mind it at all.
Great book, great series! If you haven't read it yet & are looking for something different grab the 1st book "Real ugly".. You won't be disappointed..
Every time I read a book in this series i get caught out by the cliffhanger, even though I should know better! I'm usually so absorbed in the story it hits me out of nowhere.
I love all the characters in this series and Treyjan is no exception.
This story is definitely a bit different and I hope the next book is out soon.
The book was very good. HOWEVER, the author promised at the end of of Get Hitched, that the next books would be complete with no cliffhanger! This book is not complete and the follow up was not released within 3 months as also promised. As long as it took to complete Hard Rock Roots, I would not have ordered this book if I had read the other reviews and known it was not complete!
I did enjoy Netty and Trey's story and of course expected a cliffhanger. However what I didn't expect were so many errors, misused words and the mix up of words like the author rushed to get this book out for readers but didn't get a thorough edit. Also the book ending at 90% was a huge let down.
I absolutely love this series so much!! I can't wait to find out what happenes next. Start at the beginning and read the whole dang thing. This series rocks!!!
Wow wow and wow! You didn't really get too much of an insight to trey with the other rock hard roots books but this one grabs you in just like the others. Trey is all about still living the rockstar life and feeling a little jaded as his other bandmates have married off or accepted who they are (jessie). That is until nessie comes into his life and both their world's are turned upside down. Nessie has a back story though. Can trey help her with her demons and can nessie help him with finding love? I absolutely loved this just like the others and can't wait to continue their story!
I thought this series was over after book ten. It appears as if more is yet to come. Thus book was about in the same vein as the previous nine, undeniable chemistry between the couple, bad rocker guy does appear to have some redeemable qualities, strongly focused female and a mysterious and suspenseful storyline woven over a romance tale. Ms. Stunich gets a person's heart pumping quite diligently with her prose.
