Sitting alone up on level 12 of the City Guard HQ, Brie is rocked by the revelation about her past.
Knowing that there’s only one person who can provide answers, she goes seeking the truth. In the coming days, however, the secrets of her past might just pale into insignificance with what’s about to happen in her future.
Soon, the unthinkable might just unfold, and the Nameless might have to do something they can never have expected. With Brie and Zander seeking more answers beyond the city walls, the grander reality of the world they inhabit might just show its ugly, terrible face…
Books in the Enhanced Series:
The Enhanced (Book One) Hybrid (Book Two) Nameless (Book Three) Assassin (Book Four) Captive (Book Five) Renegade (Book Six) Invader (Book Seven) Avenger (Book Eight) Book Nine - coming early July Book Ten - coming early August
Brie's learning about the things beyond the walls she's always known as home. Making strong bonds with the outsiders and strengthening her enhanced skills to be a better defender for those she loves. I know I keep saying it, but this just keeps getting better and better.
As always, this latest book in T.C. Edge's Enhanced series didn't disappoint! Not only is there plenty of action and suspense, but it's really interesting to see how Brie is evolving and coming to terms with her own feelings about what is happening to her. Wild people, wild places and some really wild news all combine to make this book a five star read in my opinion. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
In a world where emotion is deemed as a weakness it is interesting to note the relationships forming throughout this series. Brie and Zander get more than they bargained for when they encounter the other tribes outside Haven. Adryan picks up on the concern that Lady Orlando has for Brie and Zander's welfare - if only he knew the whole story. I am surprised Brie has not told him the truth yet as she trusts him but maybe Zander could accidentally read Adryan's mind and find out the big secret that way. This book provides some valuable insight into the life of the tribesmen. Why Rhoth and West are the way they are and helps us understand their loyalty to the tribe and to each other. I am surprised there is no mention of Kira, who are the people that took her, could they be the invaders and why did they take her. I can only hope that thread will be explored later on. I am enjoying this series although this book was a bit slow for me at times but I will keep reading the next one and hope it gets better.
This series has a good story, and I liked the characters. My only issue, and this continued through all 10 books, is the repetitiveness of all the statements. I can only read "I hate him" (in different words or the same, doesn't matter) so many times before I am sick of hearing it. So, in the later books, I found that I could spot another paragraph that would summarize the same feelings again and I was skipping paragraphs because it was just text with nothing actually happening. The character's inner dialogue was not that important in the story... which brings me to think that this might be nit-picky and maybe this was just a younger reading level (a teen might need these things spelled out for them). However, I would not want my young child reading about the wars, because of the (very well done) descriptions of blood and gore. So, good reads, they drew me in and kept me reading, but I could have used less repetition over the known info and known feelings.
The twists and turns keep coming in the 8th book of this series. Edge continues to build upon this world that surrounds Haven in such a masterful way that it keeps you engaged from the first lines of the book, to the very end. This is another excellent addition to the "Enhanced" series. If you're looking for a series to read that's full of action, adventure, twists and turns you will never see coming, the ties that inexplicably bind people together, and underdogs you can't help but route for...this is that series! Give it a try it will not disappoint!
If you have not yet started this series GET TO IT! The books are a quick read and once you get to this book it almost reads itself. The stories end with cliffhangers that pull you right into the next book! The characters are well developed and you'll feel as though you know some of them very well. I really think you'll be glad you gave THE ENHANCED a try! Sit back and enjoy!
I have read most of his books and all of this series thus far. His writing is more than enough to keep you interested, questioning and wanting to know what happens next. He can't write fast enough for me. Each time I think I figured out the plot he changes it and draws me in. He joined my short list of authors whose books I want on my shelves not just on kindle. High praise indeed.
Much less repetition in this book. Interesting new characters. I read a review saying kira’s situation wasn’t addressed, but it was, indirectly, a few times. Vast majority of kira’s story is in her own series, which I’ve not yet read. A lot of spelling and grammar errors with typos as well, in comparison to other books-and I’m not talking about the non-American English author differences. The toast “to Nate” was botched.
I have plowed through all eight of these books thus far, and have enjoyed every minute of the adventure. The characters have real depth, and I really enjoy T.C.'s writing style. His world building continues to impress, and I'm happy to see that we get to enjoy another series set in this world. I recommend this book, and the series as a whole, to any fans of the genre.
A new world opens up in this book of what lies behind the walls. Also new revelations come to light of the world beyond and that this world is not what it is. Also a very new threat is coming from the West, something that is terrifying. I love this book for the outdoors scenery and give you a perspective that what you thought in the first book is not what the world is about.
I have the omnibus edition of this series so will just say that book eight is as fast-paced as the others and filled with action, thoughts, feelings and wisdom.
There are some new intriguing characters - another tribe - as well as the more familiar...not all lileable to say the least.
More. This book introduces a new tribe and the way they live. I really love the Roosters. More trouble still to come. Having to combine forces with the enemy you just defeated knowing all along he can't be trusted.
A nearly perfect example of how much I like an author or a series is if I get the next book before I've finish the one I'm reading. I do like the series; I do like the writing, and I do have the next book in the series :-)
This is a fantastic series. The world building and character building was awesome. This would make a wonderful movie or tv series!! I can't wait to delve into the other books by this Author.
I wasn't sure at first what it was going to happen in this particular book but now I know.
So, like in a summary of book 8, Brie and the Nameless have to accept the fact that they are going to have to trust Cromwell because a new force is going to try to attack Haven.
I am really excited though to read about new characters on this series. I mean it's nice to have the same characters as the story progresses but at the some time, it can get boring, but I'm sure this new threat in book 9 it's going to add more drama. However by "new characters" I don't mean Roth or Kervan. I mean the outsider force ready to strike Haven. Honestly, I don't like the tribes, so that's why I didn't like this book at all because it was centered on them (the tribes). But I'm glad it's over, so now I'm waiting anxiously for book 9.
And I'm super excited for the new series with Kira! I loved that character so much. Kira was fun and sarcastic and skilled, I already love the new book about her! Can't wait for it! To the author big thanks for bringing this spin off story. :)
Oh and lastly, have I mentioned that I don't like Brie and Adryan together at all? Because if I haven't said anything then now you know... "My reunion with Adryan is brief, and somewhat indicative of the flow of our relationship. A passionate kiss, a deep sense of longing, followed by a little bit of bickering..." (Thank you for noticing Brie! You and Adryan barely speak to each other.) But I guess since this story is not focused on romance that is why we don't get to see that couple develope a true relationship. *Tantrum over*
Anyway I will be waiting for the pre-order of both books. They look interesting!
I honestly love this series. Sorry review is so short. I have to jump into the next book. I want to find out what Cromwell has up how sleeved and who this new force is.... omg!!
