Nicci Gerrard was born in June 1958 in Worcestershire. After graduating with a first class honours degree in English Literature from Oxford University, she began her first job, working with emotionally disturbed children in Sheffield. In that same year she married journalist Colin Hughes.
In the early eighties she taught English Literature in Sheffield, London and Los Angeles, but moved into publishing in 1985 with the launch of Women's Review, a magazine for women on art, literature and female issues.
In 1987 Nicci had a son, Edgar, followed by a daughter, Anna, in 1988, but a year later her marriage to Colin Hughes broke down.
In 1989 she became acting literary editor at the New Statesman, before moving to the Observer, where she was deputy literary editor for five years, and then a feature writer and executive editor.
It was while she was at the New Statesman that she met Sean French.
Sean French was born in May 1959 in Bristol, to a British father and Swedish mother. He too studied English Literature at Oxford University at the same time as Nicci, also graduating with a first class degree, but their paths didn't cross until 1990. In 1981 he won Vogue magazine's Writing Talent Contest, and from 1981 to 1986 he was their theatre critic. During that time he also worked at the Sunday Times as deputy literary editor and television critic, and was the film critic for Marie Claire and deputy editor of New Society.
Sean and Nicci were married in Hackney in October 1990. Their daughters, Hadley and Molly, were born in 1991 and 1993.
By the mid-nineties Sean had had two novels published, The Imaginary Monkey and The Dreamer of Dreams, as well as numerous non-fiction books, including biographies of Jane Fonda and Brigitte Bardot.
In 1995 Nicci and Sean began work on their first joint novel and adopted the pseudonym of Nicci French. The Memory Game was published to great acclaim in 1997 followed by The Safe House (1998), Killing Me Softly (1999), Beneath the Skin (2000), The Red Room (2001), Land of the Living (2002), Secret Smile (2003), Catch Me When I Fall (2005), Losing You (2006) and Until It's Over (2008). Their latest novel together is What To Do When Someone Dies (2009).
Nicci and Sean also continue to write separately. Nicci still works as a journalist for the Observer, covering high-profile trials including those of Fred and Rose West, and Ian Huntley and Maxine Carr. Novels include Things We Knew Were True (2003), Solace (2005) and The Moment You Were Gone (2007). Sean's last novel is Start From Here (2004).

After five books I still do not like Frieda Klein. She is such a cold fish. Nevertheless I still enjoy her books so kudos to the authors!
In this episode Frieda is suspected of the murder of her ex partner and instead of doing the normal thing and waiting while the police investigate she chooses to disappear and investigate the murder herself. She is blessed with amazing luck and a bunch of friends who will do anything for her including giving up their own careers.
So just a tad unbelievable but it is fiction after all and the authors write it so well. They are masters of the art of writing page turners and this is no exception. 384 pages vanished in the twinkling of an eye and I have to say I really enjoyed them! Now on to number six.

This is the 5th book in the Frieda Klein series. I didn’t realise that when I wanted to read it.
I think that I’ve missed lots of things having not read the previous ones, however, I soon got into this plot. Mostly I missed out of knowing Frieda but the plot soon made up for this.
A dead mans body is found, a hospital name tag on his wrist traces back to Frieda herself. It’s made the police suspect her and they really are convinced it’s her who killed him.
She goes on the run, doesn’t want to be arrested for something she’s not guilty of.
She wants to find out who killed her fiancé.
It’s clear this is going to be a complex story and it was.
What I wasn’t expecting was that thud in the face that makes you do a double take.......what in the hell was that!
This author is so well known for her fabulous books, I need to go to the start of this series.
Highly recommend this.

Friday on my Mind by Nicci French is a 2015 Penguin publication.
This is the fifth book in the Frieda Klein series.
This book started off with a real shocker! Frieda’s former lover is found murdered and so naturally, Frieda becomes the prime suspect in his death.
Instead of going through the due process, Frieda goes AWOL, sliding just under the radar and one step ahead of the cops, while she investigates the murder. But, it soon becomes clear that Frieda could be a target, and must tread very carefully.
The developments that took place in the book four was the segue into book five, but I never could have imagined things turning out like this.
I thought Frieda did the right thing by avoiding arrest and taking the risks she did. Once the police hone in on her as a suspect, they were like a dog with a bone, refusing to open their minds to other possibilities. If something like this happened for real, Frieda would probably have been sent up the river, innocent or not.
However, her actions do cause some problems for her friends, and for Karlsson, who gets stuck between a rock and a hard place.
The revelations that came out during the investigation totally blindsided me! Wow, who could have seen THAT coming!!
I read this installment at warp speed, so I guess I was really into it this time around. The ending was truly chilling and literally sent a shiver down my spine.
Overall, I thought this chapter in the series was a lot better than the last. Now if I could only find a copy of the sixth book somewhere, I’ll be set to go.

This is the 5th book in the series that features psychotherapist Frieda Klein. Having read and enjoyed the previous four books I was eager to to read this one and overall was not disappointed.This story is slightly different from the previous ones in that we find Frieda Klein on the run after her ex lover is found dead. Frieda starts to investigate the case while trying to stay clear of the Police which leads to a fast paced and nail biting thriller. This book would just about work as a stand alone thriller but in my opinion works so much better when the books are read in series order allowing you to follow all the side issues.
Not the best book in the series but a good read.

Η «Οργισμένη Παρασκευή» είναι το πέμπτο βιβλίο του συγγραφικού διδύμου Nicci Gerrard και Sean French με τις περιπέτειες της ψυχοθεραπεύτριας Φρίντα Κλάιν.
Όποιος έχει διαβάσει ήδη τα προηγούμενα βιβλία της σειράς, θα βρει βέβαια εδώ μια ολοκαίνουρια υπόθεση φόνου, αλλά κυρίως τη συνέχεια της ιστορίας της Φρίντα. Βέβαια, καθένα από αυτά διαβάζεται και αυτόνομα, αφού οι υποθέσεις που καλούνται να εξιχνιάσουν κάθε φορά οι ήρωες διαφέρουν και ολοκληρώνονται στο τέλος κάθε βιβλίου, όμως για να κατανοήσει κάποιος καλύτερα το πώς ξεκίνησαν όλα, αλλά και το πώς έφτασαν μέχρι εδώ, καλό θα ήταν να τα διαβάσει με τη χρονολογική τους σειρά. Αν πάλι κάποιος διαβάζει για πρώτη φορά της περιπέτειες της Φρίντα και των φίλων της, σίγουρα θα εντυπωσιαστεί και θα ενθουσιαστεί τόσο, που θα θελήσει οπωσδήποτε να μάθει και τα όσα προηγήθηκαν και μας οδήγησαν στα γεγονότα της «Παρασκευής».
Στο βιβλίο αυτό, η Φρίντα δεν βρίσκεται αναμεμειγμένη σε κάποια υπόθεση της αστυνομίας, ούτε έχει ξεκινήσει μια προσωπική έρευνα, όπως συνηθίζει κατά καιρούς να κάνει αυθόρμητα. Εδώ βρίσκεται για πρώτη φορά στη θέση αυτής που κατηγορείται για ένα έγκλημα, για τη δολοφονία ενός άγνωστου άντρα που βρέθηκε να επιπλέει στα νερά του Τάμεση, φορώντας ένα βραχιόλι με γραμμένο επάνω του το όνομά της. Όπως θα αποδειχτεί, όμως, ο άντρας αυτός δεν είναι καθόλου άγνωστος για την ίδια. Η Φρίντα έχει να αντιμετωπίσει την αστυνομία που τη θεωρεί ένοχη, τον Τύπο που συνεχίζει να την κυνηγά όπως κάθε φορά που το όνομά της έρχεται στο προσκήνιο, τους υπέροχους, πιστούς φίλους της που προσπαθούν να τη βοηθήσουν με τον δικό τους, πολλές φορές ανορθόδοξο, τρόπο αλλά και τον προσωπικό κυκεώνα συναισθημάτων της, που αφορά στην απώλεια του άντρα για τον φόνο του οποίου κατηγορείται. Και επειδή όλα αυτά μαζί είναι πολλά για να τα αντέξει, αποφασίζει να δραπετεύσει από την αστυνομία που την ψάχνει, να ζήσει ινκόγκνιτο για κάποιο διάστημα και να κάνει με τον δικό της τρόπο τις έρευνές της, ώσπου να ανακαλύψει τον πραγματικό ένοχο της δολοφονίας.
Παρόλο που διαφοροποιείται από τα προηγούμενα βιβλία, με τη λογική πως δεν έχουμε συνηθίσει να βλέπουμε την δόκτορα Κλάιν στο ρόλο του υποψήφιου θύτη αλλά ούτε και της φυγά, η «Οργισμένη Παρασκευή» δεν έχει να ζηλέψει τίποτα από τις υπόλοιπες… μέρες της εβδομάδας! Είναι ένα μυθιστόρημα καλογραμμένο, στο ύφος και το υψηλό επίπεδο γραφής που μας έχουν συνηθίσει οι Nicci French, γεμάτο εκπλήξεις και αγωνιώδεις ανατροπές, αλλά και πολλές στιγμές συγκίνησης. Ιδιαίτερη αναφορά αξίζει να γίνει στο γεγονός πως αυτήν τη φορά το θύμα δεν είναι άγνωστο ούτε στη Φρίντα, ούτε στο περιβάλλον της, ούτε και στον αναγνώστη. Αξίζει λοιπόν να αναφερθεί ο ιδιαίτερα προσεχτικός και ‘τρυφερός’ τρόπος των συγγραφέων στη σκιαγράφηση της εξέλιξης της υπόθεσης, αλλά και στα συναισθήματα των ηρώων. Είναι πάντα δύσκολο να αποχαιρετάς έναν ήρωά σου, κάποιον που δημιούργησες και εξέλιξες για τόσα βιβλία, και είναι πάντα δύσκολο να κάνεις το αναγνωστικό κοινό να το αποδεχτεί. Πρέπει να το στήσεις καλά, να το δικαιολογήσεις, να δικαιώσεις τον ήρωα και την απόφασή σου. Το συγγραφικό δίδυμο εδώ το πετυχαίνει, και το «αντίο» είναι συγκινητικό, νοσταλγικό, ένας επίλογος αντάξιος του εν λόγω χαρακτήρα.
Όμως το ίδιο καλοστημένη είναι και η υπόλοιπη ιστορία στο σύνολό της, που επικεντρώνεται περισσότερο από κάθε άλλη φορά στη Φρίντα, στις σκέψεις της και τα συναισθήματά της. Χωρίς να χάνεται το ουσιαστικό στοιχείο του βιβλίου, που είναι βέβαια το αστυνομικό, ταυτόχρονα υπάρχει ένα αρκετά σημαντικό κομμάτι αφιερωμένο στον ψυχισμό τόσο της πρωταγωνίστριας ηρωίδας, όσο και των ηρώων που την περιβάλλουν. Η Φρίντα, παρά την ανεξαρτησία της, χρειάζεται τους φίλους της περισσότερο από ποτέ, κι εκείνοι είναι βέβαια πάντα πρόθυμοι να τη βοηθήσουν. Το συγκεκριμένο είναι επομένως, εκτός από έξοχο αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα, κι ένα ιδιαίτερα ‘ανθρώπινο’ βιβλίο. Βεβαίως, έχουμε δει πολλές συγκινητικές στιγμές και στα προηγούμενα –τα ανθρώπινα συναισθήματα άλλωστε παίζουν κυρίαρχο ρόλο στη δουλειά μιας ψυχοθεραπεύτριας, ειδικά αν αναλογιστεί κανείς πως τις περισσότερες φορές οι ασθενείς της σχετίζονται και με την εκάστοτε υπόθεση– αλλά εδώ τα πάντα φαίνονται τονισμένα και δοσμένα με έναν ιδιαίτερο τρόπο. Το τέλος του βιβλίου αυτού μοιάζει σαν να κλείνει ένα σημαντικό κεφάλαιο για τη Φρίντα, η οποία έχοντας περάσει διά πυρός και σιδήρου κι έχοντας βιώσει μια ακόμα απώλεια, φαίνεται να προετοιμάζεται τώρα για την μεγάλη αναμέτρηση με τη νέμεσή της, τον άντρα που την καταδιώκει, η οποία θα έρθει προφανώς στα επόμενα βιβλία.
Η «Οργισμένη Παρασκευή» αποτελεί, επομένως, ένα κομβικό βιβλίο. Όπως η αντίστοιχη μέρα της εβδομάδας μας προδιαθέτει για το Σαββατοκύριακο, έτσι και η λογοτεχνική Παρασκευή μας προδιαθέτει για την επόμενη περιπέτεια της Φρίντα και για την κορύφωση της ιστορίας της, που πλησιάζει. Πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο αντάξιο του είδους του, που σίγουρα αξίζει τον χρόνο και την προσοχή σας, όπως επίσης και τα υπόλοιπα της συγκεκριμένης σειράς.

Χωρίς να χάνεται το ουσιαστικό στοιχείο του βιβλίου, που είναι βέβαια το αστυνομικό, ταυτόχρονα υπάρχει ένα αρκετά σημαντικό κομμάτι αφιερωμένο στον ψυχισμό τόσο της πρωταγωνίστριας ηρωίδας, όσο και των ηρώων που την περιβάλλουν. Η Φρίντα, παρά την ανεξαρτησία της, χρειάζεται τους φίλους της περισσότερο από ποτέ, κι εκείνοι είναι βέβαια πάντα πρόθυμοι να τη βοηθήσουν. Το συγκεκριμένο είναι επομένως, εκτός από έξοχο αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα, κι ένα ιδιαίτερα ‘ανθρώπινο’ βιβλίο. Βεβαίως, έχουμε δει πολλές συγκινητικές στιγμές και στα προηγούμενα –τα ανθρώπινα συναισθήματα άλλωστε παίζουν κυρίαρχο ρόλο στη δουλειά μιας ψυχοθεραπεύτριας, ειδικά αν αναλογιστεί κανείς πως τις περισσότερες φορές οι ασθενείς της σχετίζονται και με την εκάστοτε υπόθεση– αλλά εδώ τα πάντα φαίνονται τονισμένα και δοσμένα με έναν ιδιαίτερο τρόπο. Το τέλος του βιβλίου αυτού μοιάζει σαν να κλείνει ένα σημαντικό κεφάλαιο για τη Φρίντα, η οποία έχοντας περάσει διά πυρός και σιδήρου κι έχοντας βιώσει μια ακόμα απώλεια, φαίνεται να προετοιμάζεται τώρα για την μεγάλη αναμέτρηση με τη νέμεσή της, τον άντρα που την καταδιώκει, η οποία θα έρθει προφανώς στα επόμενα βιβλία.
Η «Οργισμένη Παρασκευή» αποτελεί, επομένως, ένα κομβικό βιβλίο. Όπως η αντίστοιχη μέρα της εβδομάδας μας προδιαθέτει για το Σαββατοκύριακο, έτσι και η λογοτεχνική Παρασκευή μας προδιαθέτει για την επόμενη περιπέτεια της Φρίντα και για την κορύφωση της ιστορίας της, που πλησιάζει. Πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο αντάξιο του είδους του, που σίγουρα αξίζει τον χρόνο και την προσοχή σας, όπως επίσης και τα υπόλοιπα της συγκεκριμένης σειράς.

In the opening scene of this novel a man's naked body is spotted floating in the Thames. His only means of identification is a hospital bracelet with the name Dr F Klein on it. When she is tracked down and shown the body, psychotherapist Frieda Klein is shocked to see that it belongs to her ex-lover Sandy Holland. Sandy has never accepted the end of the relationship and when his wallet is found hidden at Frieda's home the police decide to charge her with his murder but instead Frieda cuts all her ties and takes flight.
This is the fifth book in the Frieda Klein series and although it would work well as a stand alone novel, it is definitely enriched by prior knowledge of Frieda's character and friends. That she would go on the run from the police in a cool, calculated way, thinking that she can solve the murder herself is definitely within the bounds of her personality. Her friends, accumulated over the past four episodes, Josef, Sasha and DCI Karlsson, know her well and support her as much as she will allow. She is always in control of the situation with only occasional glimpses of her emotions breaking through, such as when she thinks about the good times with Sandy. In the shadows we also glimpse Dean Reeve, a killer from her past, believed to be dead by the police but very much alive to Frieda.
The story develops slowly but relentlessly, building up tension as Frieda fights to find the truth before the police catch up with her. The twist at the end is unexpected as the perpetrator is unveiled. Definitely a page turned and a book to be read in a short span of time. Fans of Frieda Klein will not be disappointed.

I launched into Friday On My Mind, book five of the Freida Klein series by Nicci French, directly after finishing Thursday's Children.
Fast paced and tense this is another page turning installment of the series. In Friday On My Mind, Frieda is accused of murder when the body of her ex lover, Sandy is found floating in the Thames, his throat slit. While the police focus their investigation on Frieda, she immediately suspects her obsessive stalker, Dean Reeve, is responsible and unable to convince the police of her innocence, goes on the run, determined to expose the killer and clear her name.
Frieda is of course expecting her search for evidence will lead her to prove Dean Reeve is alive and culpable, but as she delves into Sandy's recent past, she begins to wonder if someone else could be responsible. In her methodical and fearless way Frieda insinuates into the lives of those closest to Sandy, doggedly hunting his killer all while trying to keep a low profile but as the mystery unfolds a shocking twist proves the murderer is closer than she thinks. Even though Frieda manages to stay one step ahead of the police, a reckoning with the killer has consequences for all of them, both deadly and unexpected.

Though Frieda is determined to protect her loyal friends from the fall out of the case, they rally to support her, even when it puts them at risk of prosecution. Karlsson in particular faces trouble when he defends Freida against the vindictive police commissioner and his pet psychiatrist. Josef shrugs off threats of deportation, doing everything he can to aid Frieda's fight, and even the emotionally fragile Sasha doesn't hesitate to offer her refuge.

Λόγω αυξημένων επαγγελματικών υποχρεώσεων (sic!!!) άργησα να τελειώσω το βιβλίο, αν και ο όγκος του δεν ήταν και τόσο μεγάλος, ενώ σίγουρα η πλοκή σε προκαλούσε να το διαβάσεις μονοκόμματα. Επίσης πριν αρχίσω την ουσία των εντυπώσεων μου, να σημειώσω ότι το επόμενο βιβλίο (Σάββατο) βγαίνει στα αγγλικά κάπου τον Ιούνιο (δηλαδή να θυμηθώ να το προπαραγγείλω από το amazon ώστε να έρθει στην ώρα του...), αν και δεν νομίζω ότι θα αργήσει η ελληνική μετάφραση, αλλά ποιος περιμένει έστω και δυο μήνες.....
Για να μην πολυλογώ, στην πέμπτη περιπέτεια της Φρίντα, είμαστε 18 μήνες μετά τα γεγονότα της Πέμπτης, όπου η ζωή της δεν έχει αλλάξει ριζικά, μετά τις αποφάσεις που πήρε τότε, όσο και αν κάποιοι από εμάς δεν τις εγκρίναμε. Τώρα, το πτώμα ενός άντρα βρίσκεται στον Τάμεση, ο οποίος έχει το βραχιολάκι της Φρίντα από το νοσοκομείο μετά το ατύχημά της, περασμένο στο χέρι του. Για κάποιον ηλίθιο λόγο, η αστυνομία κατηγορεί τη Φρίντα ως βασική ύποπτη (ω ναι, είναι απόλυτα λογικό να υπογράψει έτσι ένας δολοφόνος!) και όλη η πλοκή διαδραματίζεται με τη Φρίντα να προσπαθεί από τη μία να ξεφύγει από την αστυνομία ενώ από την άλλη να βρει τον πραγματικό δολοφόνο - βλέπετε, ο δολοφονημένος άντρας είναι γνωστός της (και δικός μας).
Ως γενική εντύπωση, το βιβλίο δεν μου άρεσε. Ίσως σε ένα μεγάλο βαθμό να φταίει ότι αναγκαζόμουν να το κόβω συχνά και δεν μπόρεσα να μπω στο mood του βιβλίου, ίσως από την άλλη ότι ήθελα κι άλλο, λίγο επίσης ότι κάποια πράγματα νομίζω ότι δεν εξηγήθηκαν στο τέλος (πχ ποιος πήρε το βραχιολάκι, πού το βρήκε, γιατί τώρα και όχι παλιότερα), συν ότι το ποιος ήταν τελικά ο δολοφόνος και ο λόγος που διέπραξε το έγκλημα με ξενέρωσε. τζάμπα έχασε τη ζωή του ο καημένος ο άντρας..... Από την άλλη τα 5 αστέρια τα έβαλα γιατί αγαπώ πολύ τη Φρίντα και νομίζω ότι πλέον είμαι κι εγώ μία από τις φίλες της, ενώ το τέλος με επηρεάσε τόσο πολύ που όλη μέρα το σκεφτόμουν. Θα θεωρήσω λοιπόν μια ατυχή παρένθεση αυτή την περιπέτεια, θα ήθελα πολύ βασικά να μην είχε πεθάνει αυτός που πέθανε.....
Δεν συνεχίζω για να μην μου ξεφύγει κάποιο σπόιλερ, οι φανατικοί (όσοι έχετε φτάσει ως την Πέμπτη) θα το διαβάσετε ούτως ή άλλως, οι υπόλοιποι θα έχετε αφήσει τη σειρά νωρίτερα!!!!

Το συγκεκριμένο μπορώ να πω ότι παίρνει την πρώτη θέση στην προσωπική μου κατάταξη της εβδομάδας, παρέα με τη "Δευτέρα".
Όπως συμβαίνει σε κάθε βιβλίο της σειράς, μέσα στο πρώτο κεφάλαιο έχουμε ήδη το πρώτο πτώμα, πράγμα που σε κάνει να θες να συνεχίσεις να διαβάζει και το επόμενο κεφάλαιο και το επόμενο μετά από αυτό και πάει λέγοντας. Γιατί θες απαντήσεις. Και τις θες τώρα. Όπως και η κεντρική ηρωίδα, η Φρίντα, που τόσο στην "Πέμπτη", όσο και στην "Παρασκευή" μάχεται όχι μόνο για τις απαντήσεις, αλλά και για την επιβίωσή της. Σε αυτό το βιβλίο ό,τι γνώριζε ως σταθερό στη ζωή της, ως δεδομένο, ανατρέπεται. Τόσο η ίδια, όσο και οι φίλοι της θα προσπαθήσουν να τη βοηθήσουν να βγει από το αδιέξοδο. Μπορούν όμως;
Γρήγορος ρυθμός, με την ανατροπή που, ως είθισται, εντάσσουν στο τέλος του κάθε βιβλίου οι συγγραφείς, έτσι ώστε να σε κάνει να αναφωνείς "μα όχι, δεν το πιστεύω!!! Αλήθεια τώρα;". Και είναι αυτό που αγαπάμε σε αυτά τα βιβλία τελικά, όχι;

Σαφέστατα η πιο προσωποποιημένη από τις ιστορίες η συγκεκριμμένη μ μιας κι η ίδια η Φρίντα βρίσκεται κατηγορούμενη.
Αρκετά διαφορετικό από τα προηγούμενα βιβλία της σειράς αλλά σε καμία περίπτωση πιο υποδεέστερο.
Επειδή όμως δεν είχε την ίδια ένταση με τα προηγούμενα, θεωρώ δίκαιο να του δώσω 3,5 αστέρια.
Αρκετά διαφορετικό από τα προηγούμενα βιβλία της σειράς αλλά σε καμία περίπτωση πιο υποδεέστερο.

Mijn review van 2019:
Ik heb het boek inmiddels herlezen. Ik ben vanochtend begonnen en zojuist heb ik het uitgelezen. Ik zat vanaf het begin in het verhaal en het leest vlot. Ik heb me dit keer niet zo aan Frieda geërgerd als de eerste keer dat ik het las. Al snapte ik haar gedrag niet helemaal. Het verhaal is niet zo spannend dat je continu op het puntje van je stoel zit. Toch is het wel zo boeiend dat ik bleef ik lezen. Ik kon weinig van het verhaal herinneren, ook al las ik het eerder. Ik wist zelfs niet meer wie het gedaan heeft. Wel wist ik nog dat een van haar tijdelijke huisgenoten haar bedrogen had. Terwijl Frieda juist zo behulpzaam en goedaardig was. Ik heb zojuist deel 6 gereserveerd bij de bibliotheek. Vanaf dat deel heb ik de serie niet meer gelezen, dus ik ben erg benieuwd hoe ik dat boek ga ervaren. Ook heeft deel 5 genoeg losse eindjes om verder op te borduren.

Dit boek is een stuk spannender dan deel 4. Toch vind ik dit boek in zijn geheel niet beter. Soms vond ik het verhaal wat ongeloofwaardig en ergerde ik me aan het gedrag van Frieda Klein. Dat zijn dan ook de belangrijkste redenen waarom ik het maar drie sterren heb gegeven. Verder is het een leuk boek. Het leest vlot. Naar mijn idee zelfs iets vlotter dan het vorige deel. Als je eenmaal in het verhaal zit wil je niets anders dan doorlezen tot je het uit hebt. Dat is dan ook wat ik gedaan heb. Doordat ik vandaag vrij veel in de trein heb gezeten, had ik veel tijd om te lezen. Daardoor was ik al een heel eind op streek tegen de tijd dat ik thuis was. Zonet heb ik het uitgelezen. Hoewel ik me af en toe geërgerd heb aan het verhaal ben ik toch benieuwd naar deel 6. Er is namelijk nog steeds een mysterie dat niet opgelost is. Ik verwacht dat we daar pas in het laatste deel achter komen, maar wie weet komen we in deel 6 al wel iets dichterbij de ontknoping daarvan. Daarnaast is het toch ook wel weer leuk om een boek te lezen over dezelfde hoofdpersoon. Na een paar boeken wordt zo'n hoofdpersoon toch een beetje vertrouwd. Dat vind ik het leuke aan series. Op dus naar deel 6. Overigens is het wel aan te raden om eerst de andere delen te lezen als je dat nog niet gedaan hebt.

Φρίντα... Αχ Φρίντα!! <3 Λοιπόν, πριν αρχίσω να εξυμνώ την τελειότητα αυτού του χαρακτήρα ας το πιάσω λίγο πιο γενικά. Η Οργισμένη Παρασκευή, είναι το 5ο βιβλίο της σειράς του συγγραφικού ζεύγους, Nicci French, με πρωταγωνίστρια την ψυχαναλύτρια Φρίντα Κλάιν. Κάθε βιβλίο είναι μια μέρα της εβδομάδας (εννοείται πως δεν εξελίσσεται όλη η πλοκή σε μία μέρα) και στις μέρες αυτές βλέπουμε τις "περιπέτειες" -ας πούμε- της Φρίντα.
Το συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο, είναι πολύ διαφορετικό από τα 4 προηγούμενα, έχει περισσότερη αυτονομία. Θα μπορούσε κάποιος/α να το διαβάσει και χωρίς να έχει διαβάσει τα προηγούμε��α αλλά είναι κάτι που ΔΕΝ το προτείνω σε κανέναν/μια. ΠΡΕΠΕΙ να τα διαβάσουν όλοι/ες από την αρχή (Blue Monday), για να βυθιστούν στον κόσμο της Φρίντας και των υπόλοιπων χαρακτήρων, να τους αγαπήσει, να τους μάθει, να τους καταλάβει, να θυμώσει, να χαρεί. Να νιώσει όλων των ειδών τα συναισθήματα που μπορεί να σε κάνει να βιώσεις ένα -πραγματικά- καλό βιβλίο.
Από την αρχή ακόμη σε βάζει στο κλίμα. Ένας άντρας βρίσκεται νεκρός ή μαλλον δολοφονημένος, στον Τάμεση με το μόνο στοιχείο για την ταυτότητα του, ένα "βραχιολάκι" στον καρπό με το όνομα Φ.Κλάιν. Από εκεί ��αι πέρα, τα πράγματα για την Φρίντα δε θα είναι τόσο ευνοϊκά. Ένα συνεχές κυνηγητό, με τη δράση να χτυπάει πραγματικά στο κόκκινο. Κάθε κεφάλαιο να σε αφήνει σε τέτοια αγωνία που να μη θες να το αφήσεις από τα χέρια σου. Το απόλυτο pageturner... Είμαι ενθουσιασμένη και που να έγραφα και την κριτική χθες που το τελείωσα. Επίσης, δε συμφωνώ με αυτούς που λένε ότι θα ήθελαν κάτι που να είναι πιο σχετικό με τα προηγούμενα. Ήταν ακριβώς όπως θα έπρεπε, να δούμε την πρωταγωνίστρια μας με άλλο μάτι και να την αγαπήσουμε ακόμη περισσότερο.
Να συνοψίσω, γιατί από τη χαρά μου φλυαρώ. Δεν κάνει πουθενά κοιλιά, δε σε αφήνει να το αφήσεις και δεν απογοητεύει ούτε στο ελάχιστο τους φαν της Φρίντα και των Φρεντς. Πρέπει οπωσδήποτε να είναι η επόμενη σας αγορά. *Άσχετο αλλά θέλω τη Φρίντα και τον Καρλσον μαζί. Είμαι η μόνη; <3*

Από την αρχή ακόμη σε βάζει στο κλίμα. Ένας άντρας βρίσκεται νεκρός ή μαλλον δολοφονημένος, στον Τάμεση με το μόνο στοιχείο για την ταυτότητα του, ένα "βραχιολάκι" στον καρπό με το όνομα Φ.Κλάιν. Από εκεί ��αι πέρα, τα πράγματα για την Φρίντα δε θα είναι τόσο ευνοϊκά. Ένα συνεχές κυνηγητό, με τη δράση να χτυπάει πραγματικά στο κόκκινο. Κάθε κεφάλαιο να σε αφήνει σε τέτοια αγωνία που να μη θες να το αφήσεις από τα χέρια σου. Το απόλυτο pageturner... Είμαι ενθουσιασμένη και που να έγραφα και την κριτική χθες που το τελείωσα. Επίσης, δε συμφωνώ με αυτούς που λένε ότι θα ήθελαν κάτι που να είναι πιο σχετικό με τα προηγούμενα. Ήταν ακριβώς όπως θα έπρεπε, να δούμε την πρωταγωνίστρια μας με άλλο μάτι και να την αγαπήσουμε ακόμη περισσότερο.
Να συνοψίσω, γιατί από τη χαρά μου φλυαρώ. Δεν κάνει πουθενά κοιλιά, δε σε αφήνει να το αφήσεις και δεν απογοητεύει ούτε στο ελάχιστο τους φαν της Φρίντα και των Φρεντς. Πρέπει οπωσδήποτε να είναι η επόμενη σας αγορά. *Άσχετο αλλά θέλω τη Φρίντα και τον Καρλσον μαζί. Είμαι η μόνη; <3*

Het lichaam van Sandy Holland, de ex van Frieda Klein, spoelt aan uit de Theems. Het blijkt dat hij vermoord is, zijn keel is overgesneden. Onder de vele mensen die de politie verhoort, is ook Frieda. En in haar huis wordt een portefeuille van Sandy gevonden. Frieda is nu echt verdacht aan het worden, en moet voor een grondig verhoor naar de politie. Het is bijna zeker dat ze aangehouden gaat worden.
Maar Frieda slaat op de vlucht; ze is onschuldig (iemand moet de portefeuille in haar huis gelegd hebben) maar weet dat de bewijslast tegen haar groot is. Ze wil de zaak zelf oplossen. Geholpen door Josef, weet Frieda onder te duiken, en ze laat haar haar knippen en kleedt zich in een volkomen andere stijl. Zo weet ze uit de handen van de politie te blijven, en zoekt ze contact met mensen die Sandy de laatste weken en maanden van zijn leven gekend hebben, om meer te weten te komen.
Maar uiteindelijk blijkt dat Frieda zelf in gevaar is, want de echte moordenaar loopt nog vrij rond.

The fifth instalment of Nicci French's series about the adventures of therapist Dr Frieda Klein. Frieda, surely the coldest character ever created in fiction, is even more inhumanly robotic than usual in this one; she barely even reacts to Despite Dr Robot's utter lack of human warmth, empathy or friendliness, she has a wide circle of adoring friends and colleagues who constantly tell each other and the reader how utterly wonderful she is and how she and she alone saved their lives and are even willing to Despite my intense dislike of Dr Robot - - I found Friday on my Mind a tightly plotted and fast moving novel.

Ooh ooh ooh. So I want to say "wow", but it needs context. This one was rather slow building. That's not helpful. ....All books in this series are slow building in my opinion. This one though, it's a transitory novel. The last one, Thursday's Children, it was my favorite, by far. Most suspenseful of the series including this one. This was a bit of resetting, a long story, not particularly high or even mid level suspense. But having finished it, I can see the genius behind. It's a bit of stabilizing the foundation, and bringing us back to the main notions from book one. You also learn a bit more of her friends, the depths of them, and you get a little more of Karlsson & Josef, Sasha as well. The last 10% is great. It made me appreciate why the author wrote this one the way she did. I'm overall, very content, that I began this series and have continued. It feels more organic, the way I've followed the characters, learned of them, experience them and feel closer and closer to them. I'm (as I've said a few times) looking forward to the next one, Saturday's novel.

Without doubt this is the best book in the Frieda Klein series thus far.
Frieda Klein continues to be one of my favourite characters in crime fiction writing – I love her sensible ways, her determination, her resilience, the friends she surrounds herself with and the advice she gives her clients, her friends and associates; she makes such good sense. Frieda is psychotherapist – on duty and off – her vocation informs all her behaviours.
This novel is fast paced, engaging and it manages to weave into the narrative back stories regarding homelessness, the disenfranchised, domestic violence and mental health issues .What a wonderful tale of prejudice, murder, mystery and intrigue. Added to this complex plot is the hint of something special to come in the next book – Frieda is indebted to the mysterious and powerful Walter Levin. I can’t wait to read the next book!

I've enjoyed books 1-4 of this series, titled by the days of the week - I rated all of them 4-stars. This one was less successful for me. Frieda's ex-lover was found floating in the Thames. When the police figure out who he is, they invite Frieda to identify him. A few things are found in her home that prompt the cops to decide it was Frieda who murdered Sandy, and immediately she goes on the lam. All this happens very early in the book, and her absconding seemed very out of character! Based on her personality, I expected her to fight the charges to prove her innocence. But then we wouldn't have had quite the mystery! I found things very slow and often incredulous, but the drama picked up toward the end and held my interest. Of course, there's a seed planted at the very end to hook the reader into rushing to the next installment, Dark Saturday.
Why I'm reading this: A favorite series, it's been a year since I read book #4. Thought it's time for book #5 before I forget everything that came before.

I just really didn't care about Frieda or what happened to her.
This was my first Nicci French book and I doubt that I will read more. I just didn't care at all about Freida or what happened to her, I couldn't warm to her. I think it has a lot to do with the character herself. She was aloof, untouchable.
I struggled to listen to this despite the fantastic performance. I found it all too easy to turn off and not turn back on again.

This is the fifth book in a crime series about Frieda Klein, a psychoanalyst in London. I would suggest reading them in order to get the most out of the recurring characters' development plus the thread that runs through all of these. However, there are no cliffhangers, and it would work as a standalone thriller.
In this one, Frieda becomes the prime suspect in a murder case and decides to go on the run and find out who the true culprit is. I love this series, but Frieda is an acquired taste. She can come across as terribly aloof, is exceptionally calm and collected at all times and fiercely independent. However, she has a great circle of friends, such as Joseph, a Croatian builder, and DCI Malcolm Karlsson, who help her. Fast-paced and engaging, this is a really enjoyable story. The audiobook narration is fantastic. Looking forward to the next one.

Από Παρασκευή σε Παρασκευή. Τόσο χρειάστηκε να λυθεί το μυστήριο του δολοφονημένου άνδρα που βρέθηκε στον Τάμεση να φέρει νοσοκομειακό βραχιολάκι με το όνομα της Φρίντα. Και η ταυτότητα του άνδρα μας σόκαρε αλλά και το κυνηγητό της αστυνομίας ενάντια στη Φρίντα καθώς τη θεωρεί ένοχη. Εκπληκτική ιστορία με τη Φρίντα που την έχουμε μάθει πια όλοι, πόσο απρόβλεπτη μπορεί να γίνει και πόσο τυχερή είναι που, αν και τόσο απόμακρη, περιβάλλεται από τόσο πιστούς φίλους.

Once again it’s Frieda who is in trouble. In the earliest books in this series, Frieda Klein, a psychiatrist practicing as a psychotherapist, was working as a mental health consultant to the London police force. Her ability to understand human mental processing helped the police to focus on the people who were truly a danger to others. But then things shifted after Frieda and the police commissioner did not see eye-to-eye about who had done what. She was fired as a consultant to the department. (Because these books are mysteries, I will not get into details because in mysteries plot is all. To spoil a mystery in a book review is its own sort of crime.) After that point in the series, the books began to focus more and more on Frieda’s various predicaments and her responses to them. That means the strength of the books depends more on the strength of Frieda’s personality and history. Frieda is a somewhat guarded and introspective individual. She revels in her time spent alone in her own house. At the same time she is always on target about what her clients need from her, indeed, on what any person in danger or in trouble needs from her. She acts in ways that will benefit them, even if what she does endangers her, even if some characters in the book question her goodness.
In this book (and Thursday’s Children before it) it is Frieda who is the target of some criminal elements. As much as I appreciate her as a character, it is frustrating to see how careless she is about her own safety. She does not listen to those who have her best interests at heart. She is often impractical and does not do all she could to protect herself, yet she is always willing to do the right thing when someone else is in need or in danger. Yet I find her stubborn insistence on doing the right thing no matter what to be quite appealing. She is much braver than I am. Also in this book, as in all that preceded it, there are character and plot threads that continue throughout. If you wish to read the books in this series, please start with Blue Monday and read in order of the days of the week. Each book will be better that way, even though each could stand alone as a single volume.

Πρώτη φορά αγοράζω βιβλίο και το διαβάζω τόσο γρήγορα. Συνήθως ενθουσιάζομαι με κάποιο, το αγοράζω και το διαβάζω μετά από αρκετό καιρό. Ε, με αυτό δεν άντεξα. Έπρεπε να μάθω τι θα συμβεί στη συνέχεια. Όπως ξέρεις η συγκεκριμένη σειρά βιβλίων είναι από τις αγαπημένες μου μιας και είναι ακριβώς το στυλ που μου αρέσει. Έξυπνη πρωταγωνίστρια, ωραία πλοκή, μυστήριο, φόνοι, κυνηγητό, ψάξιμο, πολύ ψάξιμο. Αυτού του είδους τα βιβλία τα καταβροχθίζω, αν έχω χρόνο φυσικά για διάβασμα.
Η Παρασκευή λοιπόν είναι σίγουρα ένα από τ’ αγαπημένα μου της σειράς. Το θεωρώ το καλύτερο απ’ όλα, αλλά εγώ πάντα πρώτο στην καρδιά μου θα έχω το πρώτο, «Blue Monday», μιας και ήταν αυτό που με έβαλε στον κόσμο της Φρίντα Κλάιν. Παρόλα αυτά, το πέμπτο βιβλίο της σειράς το θεωρώ σε όλα τα κομμάτια καλύτερο απ’ όλα. Είχε από την αρχή μέχρι το τέλος πολύ μεγάλη αγωνία, είχε δράση, ψάξιμο, μυστήριο, αρκετούς υπόπτους, κάτι που με ξετρέλανε και ανατροπές. Επίσης το τέλος του ήταν πάρα πολύ καλό και σε αφήνει με το στόμα ανοιχτό.
Δεν έχω να πω περισσότερα μιας και φοβάμαι μην κάνω κάποιο spoiler για την πλοκή και θα ήταν κρίμα. Το μόνο που μπορώ να πω είναι ότι αυτή τη φορά βλέπουμε την Φρίντα σε έναν άλλον ρόλο που ομολογώ ότι της ταιριάζει πολύ, αν και στην αρχή δεν το περίμενα.
Διαβασέ το και δε θα χάσεις!

I don't really know what keeps drawing me to these books. I don't particularly feel close to Frieda as a character, or any of the other characters in here. But there's something about these books that make me want to know what's next, even if they also aren't the most memorable mysteries to me.
I struggled a bit with this book, but in the end it wasn't bad. It wasn't great either, but I feel like it was a solid book. I don't know if I ever felt truly invested in what was happening to the characters, which was probably hindering my enjoyment a bit. But I was still curious to see what had happened, and enjoyed Frieda's journey in this book.
Solid continuation of the series, but nothing new, despite slightly the different premise in comparison to the other books in the series.
I struggled a bit with this book, but in the end it wasn't bad. It wasn't great either, but I feel like it was a solid book. I don't know if I ever felt truly invested in what was happening to the characters, which was probably hindering my enjoyment a bit. But I was still curious to see what had happened, and enjoyed Frieda's journey in this book.

Явно много съм се била затъжила за Фрида Клайн, защото бях много доволна, че книгата се появи в Сторител и я изслушах на един дъх.
Буквално!
Но не мога да повярвам, че писателското дуо така с лека ръка уби главен герой. Дори в един момент си мислех, че ще е грешка, защото трупът бе неразпознаваем. Уви, съвсем мъртъв си беше... И в тази връзка главен заподозрян се оказа самата Фрида, която пък на своя страна избяга от полицията и се укри с оглед на това да намери истинския извършител.
Така, че в тази част имаше доста неочаквани моменти и доста динамика.
В същото време се уверяваме за сетен път колко добри приятели има докторката, които са готови сами да влязат в ареста за възпрепядстване на разследването и укриване на сведения, но не и да предадат приятелката си. А както знаем тя е доста чепат характер и да ѝ се чуди човек как изобщо има приятели. Но ми хареса как тя сама определя себе си, знаейки, че хората я смятат за коравосърдечна: "Но както е известно, хората изживяват по различен начин болката и гнева. Аз лично се затварям в себе си, а останалите мислят, че съм сурова и жестока." И все пак най-близкият ѝ приятелски кръг прави всичко за нея, за да я спаси.
Интересно беше, че самата полиция не предприе никакво разследване на нещо друго, не потърси друг заподозрян, а се втурна само и единствено да открие и хване Фрида. Изглеждаха доста некадърни, макар да бяха водени от обещаваща нова следователка. Но пък знаем кои от управлението мразят психиатърката и каква вина ѝ вменяват.
Така или иначе извършителят бе изненада, мотивите също - чак не можех да повярвам. Малко като съшито с бели конци, но фактът си е факт и един от героите вече е аут.
А ние ще очакваме следващата среща с Фрида Клайн.
