Performers have scales, arpeggios, and repertoire to help develop technique. Studying an instrument requires a formal program of instruction that's designed to develop technique and skill. As a composer, you can also develop your technique so that when inspiration hits, you're ready to write down your ideas.

I waited to complete at least half the book before writing a review. My caution to anybody considering this is to view the book as a series of techniques that the author has found to be effective over a lifetime — some assembly required.

It starts with a pep talk that aims to help you get excited about working hard. I didn’t need that but there are some good arguments for taking your routine seriously. The book then introduces one technique at a time along with ear training exercises that you can use or if you compose you can create your own.

I took the time to really really think about my goals and create a schedule that worked for me. The techniques are amazing and at month three or so I heard a concert quality version of a composition I’ve been playing with in my head.

Is it hard? Yup. Does the author prescribe a step by step method in a one size fits all approach? Nope. Do you have to think to see a benefit? Better believe it. The book works. But you gotta use your head and push push push to apply the techniques every single day.

The author says that the most important part of the book is helping readers to practice actually with the practice scores contained in the book. However, the pictures of music sheets are so blurry and you cannot separately download from anywhere unless you pay a bit more for his "workbook". It is so unfair. He should have written that buying the extra workbook is almost essential in the description of the book.
I do not think it is worthy to spend money on this book. There are lots of better options in the market.

Bueno pero nada muy nuevo.

En general entrega buenas herramientas para desarrollar la técnica (auditiva sobretodo) sin embargo no sale del siglo xix y con suerte menciona a schoenberg.
