If you like reading clean paranormal murder mysteries featuring a good witch, mystical cats, and fun sidekicks, then this might be the perfect series for you!
Jinty James grew up reading Enid Blyton's Famous Five and Secret Seven mysteries, as well as all the Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden books. Later on, she graduated to mysteries written by Agatha Christie, Elizabeth Peters, and many other authors. It was her dream to one day write her own cozy mystery, and now she has, with plans for many more.
How exciting to be involved in a local coffee competition. The winner goes on to compete at a higher level in Seattle. Very sad to have someone die with your coffee cup in their hands. Local media reports affects their business so our main characters; Maddie, Suzanne and Trixie must find out who the murderer is to save their business. Who will be the awarded winner and compete in Seattle? Will Maddie ever get a real date with Suzanne’s brother?
Brewed from the Bean is a wonderful coffee truck name.
The Coffee Witch Cozy Mysteries is a six-novel series. “Visions and Vanilla Cappuccino” by Jinty James is book four of six.
Feline lovers will enjoy this book. Trixie—the Persian cat—comes alive as a character in the story. She is involved, full of expression, and vocal. “Mrrow.” is Trixie’s signature cat vocabulary. This feline dialogue is captured throughout the narrative, almost to a fault because the overuse feels unnatural. However, Trixie isn’t a normal cat. Despite other repetitions in the narrative, they do not discourage reading the book. The story is fun. It’s a cute and playful read.
Paragraphs are short and there’s no lengthy dialogue. So, the pace of the narrative is quick. The main character, Maddie Goodwell, and her best friend, Suzanne, complement each other throughout the story. For example, where Maddie needs to think and process her words, Suzanne is fast to speak and make her point.
Visions and Vanilla Cappuccino offers magic—a coffee vision spell, a truth charm, and a safety incantation—mystery, friendship, coffee, and hints of romantic entanglement. This novel even includes a recipe for Maple Macadamia Health Balls.
I look forward to reading other books in this series.
I did like this book, the second in its series. However, I did have a few issues. At times it really seems like Maddy is a whiner which is off-putting. I also came across some grammatical errors which take away from the story for me.
Maddie and Suzanne have their coffee truck and Maddie's practicing for a local contest to see who makes the best cappuccino. Accompanying the judge as he visits each contestant are a local radio host and newspaper reporter. The radio host blackmails Maddie into giving him free coffee for the day. Shortly after Maddie is announced the winner of the contest, the radio host is found murdered with a to-go cup from Brewed by the Bean. Maddie, Suzanne, and Trixie are now out to prove Maddie's innocence and regain their regulars.
Maddie is gradually learning the ropes as a new witch and has made a discovery in her book, thanks to possible familiar Trixie. A murder that doesn't even give her time to bask in the glow of victory at a regional coffee festival has Maggie dusting off her newfound sleuthing skills. The mystery is well-planned, Maggie and Suzanne are better about taking foolish risks, and once again, Detective Edgewater reaches the solution at approximately the same time. There's still room for development, but Maggie's supporting cast may be extending to include a "plus one;" I look forward to more from Book Three.
Parts of this I liked alot. Maddie is the reason I give it three stars. She is 27, but acts like a teenager when dealing with Luke whom she likes. Maddie owns a coffee shop, but often doubts her recipes are good. She is a whiner, at times. Her cat Trixie is adorable.
I'm really enjoying this new (to me) mystery series. I do enjoy the Norwegian cat cafe series with Annie, the cat, so I decided to give this series a look see. I'm extremely happy I did. This one had a great story line and wonderful characters. I'll definitely be reading more of this series.
Maddie and Suzanne and their furry helper Trixie soul eater murders and make a mean cappuccino. Their exploits keep you entertained until the end. A fun read for all ages!
I really enjoyed this adventure with the girls (all three) from the coffee truck. I can not wait for the next book to read. It is a wonderful clean cozy mystery with just a touch of the paranormal. I highly recommend it.
I enjoy finding new authors and series' to read. Jinty James does not disappoint! A story line that grabs you, no foul language and lovable characters like Maddie, Suzanne and Trixie, I am looking forward to book number three.

Not as good as the first. A training witch, her BFF and Trixie the cat have another case to solve. The ending was a bit "off" but all in all not a bad read. If you enjoy a mild cozy, this might be for you.
