She’s hunting an assassin. A powerful chieftain could help. If only she can outwit his dark secret and survive his blade…

Etain thought her dad’s stories of the Alamir as fairy tales, anecdotes about supernatural humans created to pacify the wild imaginings of a child. She never considered them an education much less preparation for her destiny.

Until a red-eyed assassin murders her family.

Scared and alone, she’s taken in by a small clan and learns their warrior ways. Moving up the ranks quickly, Etain soon realizes it will take more than a sword and her newfound powers to track down the demon.

A perilous encounter with the warrior chieftain, Lord Darknight, could be the death of her.

Alamir is the first novel in the action-packed Blood of Kaos Series. If you like not-so-perfect protagonists, action, and adventure, you’ll love Nesa Miller’s dark fantasy series.

What a treat this book was and Ms. Miller did a wonderful job of developing the fantasy world of Alamir. I felt like I was transported into another place and time with adventure swirling around me.

I fell in love with the main character and the many obstacles she had to endure. Ms. Miller also conquered bringing romance into this story without overdoing it. That's such a hard task when mixing a love story in with an epic fantasy.

Being an avid reader of fantasy, I give this story 2 thumbs up!

Alamir is the first book in the Blood of Kaos Series by Nesa Miller. This is a bit of a darkish fantasy- with plenty of action, adventure, danger, paranormal elements, drama, twists, mystery, romance, wonderful world building, and intriguing characters.
As I have said before, Ms. Miller really knows how to weave an engrossing story- and has also created a really impressive, original, and entirely believable world in which to set her story. So descriptive and vividly detailed, it was really easy to ‘picture’ everything as the story was brought to life before my eyes.
These characters are all very interesting, fully developed individuals with their own personalities, quirks, and flaws. There is a fairly large cast of characters, but each plays their part wonderfully well, and adds interest to the overall storyline.
So, if you love a great fantasy, with intriguing characters, and a wonderfully exciting plot that will keep you engrossed the whole way through- then this is definitely the book for you.
A superb start for the series.

Thank you, Ms. Miller!

Blood of Kaos is a complex tale of an ordinary girl, Etain, who following a traumatic event finds herself elevated to the Alamir - defenders of the balance between good and evil. With her new-found powers she soon finds herself in the centre of a multi-layered world of sorcery and magic where her very existence is challenged. She and her demon sister become pawns in a battle royale between two powerful demon brothers Dar, Lord Darknight and his evil brother Midir, as Dar fights to thwart Midir's ambition to rule the Bok'na'Ra.

This book oscillates between the mundane everyday world and the alternate realities inhabited by Dar and Midir. This creates quite a dynamic and often amusing contrast between the rich 'mythic' language of the demon's realm, and everyday colloquialisms of the Alamir who exist in the mortal realm. I particularly enjoyed the humour implicit in demons making themselves butties when they got hungry, or popping in the shower at their dread lair in the dark realms!

The story itself was richly described and the author seems to have a good knowledge of spell craft and crystal lore which added an authentic flavor to the rituals and magic involved in the tale. The story abounds with magic blades forged in mythic realms and imbued with secret lore and arcane powers, the forging of Etain's sword by Dar was particularly vividly and beautifully described.

Much of the story revolves around the conflicted relationship between Etain and Dar, the Lord Darknight. This takes up the bulk of the book, overshadowing the story of Etain's half-demon sibling Faux, and Freeblood, characters who at the beginning of the novel seem to promise more than they actually deliver. The tortured romance between Etain and Dar is very effectively described, Etain's mistrust and his arrogance creating a fiery and volatile relationship; there are some quite erotic scenes at times almost verging on the sado-sexual.

The novel is very fast paced, the dialogue sparky and there is a lot of humour present in the story. This acts as good foil for the very violent scenes - Etain is a heroine who goes through the ringer a few times, and not only at the hands of her enemies! Despite this she does not come across as weak, submissive or a victim. Etain is portrayed as a strong woman but does present as inexperienced and at times vulnerable. Miller has created a young heroine who is learning her craft and learning it the hard way.

My main reservation about the novel was that it was written in the present tense. This sometimes pinned the reader to an immediate moment without providing the context for events. Things did become clear as they were explained by the characters, but the reader sometimes had to wait a while for the explanation. In some ways this was actually very effective - it brought the reader into the middle of the action (where not even all of the characters know everything there is to know) but in other ways it was a little frustrating. The author also occasionally fell prey to Malapropisms which could be disconcerting.

I would also like to have had more conclusion to the Faux and Freeblood strands of the novel as they were both very interesting and promising characters. However, it may be that their stories will be explored in future novels - I certainly hope so.

All in all, though, this was a thrilling, vividly described, imaginative sword and sorcery tale with a great big dash of demon romance thrown in. I would definitely recommend this novel to fans of fantasy novels, and I will definitely be reading more by JD Miller in the future.

Let me start by saying that I received a copy of the ebook, Blood of Kaos by J D Miller, from the author. This has not influenced my review in any way, as I fear you’ll discover.

I have to say that the story has great potential. It is inventive and has good characters. Unfortunately, it’s in serious need of revision and editing. There are glaring errors, inconsistencies and awkward sentences. There are passages where the tense appears to change – possibly for dramatic effect, but I’m afraid it often just seemed clumsy or confusing, to me. It’s not always clear which character is talking during sections of narrative, or who they’re talking to, and sometimes avoidance of ‘he said, she said’ in the narrative passages results in some peculiar phrases. There are often leaps in the story which require you to disregard the fact that something hasn’t been explained or described – at all. Another area which causes some confusion is the flow of time. The fact that time moves differently in different realms isn’t mentioned until you’re well into the book. The reader simply finds something entering the narrative out of thin air or a sense of ‘fractured time’. This may, to some extent, be the consequence of drastic editing changes which were not then harmonised, but I can’t say that with any knowledge of how the book was written and edited. In all honesty, if it was professionally edited, I would sack the editor! In a book where some degree of otherworldliness may be anticipated, there is still a need for logic, and I’m afraid that the logic seems to be missing in several instances. The ‘Kaos’ of the title, which has a definite link to ‘Chaos’, seems to rule too often. There are times in the story when you hit a passage that is very good indeed, but I’m afraid that those just make it harder to cope with the sections in between.

All of that said, I honestly believe that J D Miller has a great story here. It just needs a lot of work. While there are familiar concepts, there are enough new ideas to make it worthwhile reading, once it’s fixed. I firmly believe that this is a story worth rescuing! The principle characters are very nearly what and where they need to be, which shows that J D Miller has a great feeling for them. They just need some help to dwell somewhere worthy of them.

I truly regret that I can’t recommend buying the book, or ebook, in its current condition. I give it 3 stars out of 5, for the originality of the story, the quality denying it any better rating and, indeed, threatening to reduce the rating if reviewed by those more interested in the technicalities than the inventive creativity.

I never take pleasure in giving a negative review, and this is particularly true when I encounter a story with so much potential.

I received this book to give an honest review.
I thought the story was decent, but it was not holding me to the book like I hoped after reading the blurb. There was not a lot of action like I was hoping for. I figured Dar and his brother Midir would have totally had a lot of fight scenes but that was not the case. The time frame at times confused me at times with the two worlds. And I didn't really get the concept of it all until I want to say mid-point of the book. It felt weird reading about swords and then up pops a hummer being mentioned within the story. I know silly but it kind of threw me off.
For me the book finally got my attention probably around page 100 or so.
That is when we really see Dar want to fight for what is his. There was one part when Midir revels something that I was like OH WOW! Totally didn't see that coming.

I really enjoyed the first person writing as you could get a feel about what was being told. Now there were relationships within the story that I wanted more back story. Like those that knew Etain and took care of her like family. I felt as though this story was missing that. Overall decent read. I would say it was quick but it took me over a week to even finish the book. Now the ending has me wondering if maybe there is another book coming out?

A wonderful compelling read

This is a story that is centered around Etain, who has to face many challenges after faced with great loss. She has to learn how to use the powers she holds. She and her sister fall for the same guy and this guy is a demon. He has had a very hard life as well. He and his brother are sworn enemies and they use the girls has little pieces in the battle they with each other. Etain has to endure so much through whole book, will she be able to survive?

All of the characters come together in very interesting ways. The dynamics and how things play out are very interesting. The internal struggles they all deal is fascinating, and the way they deal with them is beautifully written.

In the beginning I didn't think I enjoy this book. But I have to tell you that J.D.Miller has some of the most creative writing I have read in a while. I love the fantasy world in this book, it's a very complex story and would be a great pick for anyone that loves reading about fantasy worlds.

I was given this book to read in exchange for an honest review.

This book has it all, amazing characters, a great fantasy world that is well developed and a great story. The writing is excellent and you'll want to keep turning the pages to find out what is going to happen next. Etain is well developed, feisty, and strong, and I quickly grew to love her and her quest for justice. This is an excellent start to what I'm sure will be a fantastic series. This is the first book I've read by this author but I know it won't be the last. If you are a fan of Fantasy and a dash of romance thrown in amongst all the action, I highly recommend Alamir: Blood of Kaos Volume 1.

Alamir (Blood of Kaos Series #1) by Nesa Miller

My first read by the author and wow. Miller sure knows how to write a fantasy and romance. Alamir is a fantastic book and I can't wait for the next book.

Etain came to Alamir when her family was killed. She wasn't looking for love, but she was looking to have revenge against her family's killer. She found friends among the people she stays with and has also found a family. The quote I choose for Etain is: “I have been your lady since we first met. As for the other… Give me time.”

Darknight, Dar, wasn't looking for love, but he was looking for company. He's a twin of sorts, but doesn't want to live with his brother. Things get difficult when he starts feeling differently. The quote I choose for Dar is: “The destruction you saw was the demolition of a past that has held me back. I do not know what the future holds, but I am ready to face it. I see now I have made a mess of it. At the end of the day, it comes down to what you want.”

Highly recommended for romance lovers with a twist of fantasy and drama. I loved this and will be waiting for book 2.

This is the first book in the Blood of Kaos series and what a first book. It gripped me from the first page. The characters are so well written and the description of the fantasy land really drags you in. The story itself is heartbreaking and dark. What I really love is the lead character Etain is a really strong fiesty female character who will stop at nothing to get the answers she wants.

After her family was murdered by a demon Etain starts the journey to find out who was responsible for their death. She seeks the help of the Lord DarkKnight Dar to find the answers. But by joining his clan she has become a warrior so her mission is put on hold to serve Dar and the clan.

Their relationship is strong and deep but when they both start having feelings that are more than just boss and employee things start to get complicated.

The twist and turns of their relationship and their relationships with others such as Etain's sister Faux, Dar's evil brother Medir and the unknown element which is FreeBlood is gripping and captivating.

This is a fantasy story with a lot of action and adventure. Nesa Miller is becoming one of my favorite authors. Her writing style flows gently throughout her story. There were enough action and adventure to carry through to the end of the story. This is the first book in this series and I cannot wait to see what is coming up in the next book. I felt as if was on a roller coaster ride because of the twists and turns, ups and downs, and action to keep me turning pages until the last page. The characters are engaging and fully developed. There is so much depth to the characters that keep the story going. This story is about Etain. Throughout her life, she was told fairy tails about Alamir. Like some fairy tales in our world, it was told to her to teach lessons. She was learning about her destiny in the fairy tales. Will these stories help her with her current situation? This story is a must-read especially if you love fantasy stories as much as I do.

Alamir (Blood of Kaos Series Book 1) by Nesa Miller. This is a dark, fantasy story that will grab you from the very beginning and you won't want to put it down until you are finished. Its the story of Etain who is strong, hard headed and is not afraid of anything. Growing up Etain has always heard stories of Alamir but she thought they were just stories. Finding out it is real causes her to freak a little. When her family is taken from her by an assassin she is in taken in by a clan. It is now her mission to find the demon who took her family and make them pay. Realizing it will take more than what she has to track the demon down she asks her friends for help. While trying to track down the demon she is also taken with Dar romantically. Will this cause her to not pay attention and die at the hand of the demon who killed her family? Will Etain and her friends survive this hardcore battle? Read Alamir to find out!

This is one of those dark and detailed fantasy books that you just get completely lost in and lose track of the world going on around you. Alamir was instantly on my TBR as soon as I saw the breathtaking cover come across my feed and I was itching to find out what the story behind it was going to be. It definitely did not disappoint and I am even more elated to find out there will be more books within this series to devour.

Alamir introduces us to Etain, an ordinary gal at first until an event changes everything. She is left to figure out where she fits in the new world of the Alamir, and help to keep the balance between the good and evil surrounding her. Her new powers are just the tip of the iceberg and she finds herself in some adventurous situations. I felt transplanted into this fantasy world and I loved every moment of it. Bring on book two!

Alamir: Blood of Kaos
Book 1
By Nesa Miller

Dark Fantasy loaded with information, pay close attention. You may need it in the end?

Etain is looking for the assassin, hunting him down before he harms her family. All those years her father told her fairytales and made up stories. But we're they really made up? Seems she will need some of the knowledge she gained while listening. Her family is gone and she is all alone.

What a great story for those who like dark fantasy. Nesa Miller wrote this exciting adventure. Her writing skills made this a fast-paced page turner. I love the characters and how Nesa Miller describes them. I felt like I was meeting new friends. New friends with a whole lot of action. I could hardly stop listening to this Dark Fantasy. Audible sure brought this story to life. No Spoilers Found here. You really need to hear this one. Job Well Done Nesa Miller!!

This book was great! It is my first book by this Author and also my first book by this Narrator. I thought this book was attention grabbing and I was excited to see where the story would go. Etain is our main charcter and she is an interesting one. She is strong and determined and you can't help but like her. The author did an awesome job at keeping the story going and I enjoyed that this had some originality to it because I've never listened to anything like it. I will say it took a while for me to get use too the narrator. She had a very high voice at times and it threw me off a bit but it didn't take away from the story and I still liked it a lot. I am looking forward to listing to more of this authors stories and I would recommend this to a friend!
Happy Listening!

Alamir: Blood of Kaos Series by Nesa Miller. Let me start with the fact this was outside my read comfort zone but I’m trying to branch out and boy am I glad I did. From page one I knew I was in for an interesting story and I was not disappointed. The characters are complex and truly draw you into their world. The storyline is well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. This author has a wonderful way of keeping readers completely hooked and on the edge of their seats with the twists and turns. Even the smallest details are focused on and truly bring the story to life right before my eyes. I’m giving this story a four star review and highly recommend it. Looking forward to more from this author for sure!

Alamir: Blood of Kaos Series by Nesa Miller is a unique darker fantasy story and Nesa has done a great job with its development and weaving the tangled web to give us something that is enthralling and engrossing. Alamir is full of danger and action, adventure and drama and let’s not forget the fantasy and paranormal. The characters are complex, fully developed people and they are very well written, you can’t help but like them. Nesa’s world building is great and so vivid that it is easily imaginable, and the plot is spot on.

It is a great start to a series and I very much look forward to the next book.

Alamir is the first book in the Blood of Kaos Series by Nesa Miller. This is an exciting read and focuses on the character of Etain. She is an interesting character who is having to decide if the fairy tales she grew up on are real or fiction. Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction. This is a pretty fast paced story built in a fantasy world. I enjoyed the characters and story as well as the world building. Overall, this is an interesting start to a series. It introduced a lot of characters, and I am curious where the story will go next. I like the conflict and the struggle Etain goes through which I think helps make her a believable character. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

There was plenty of action, adventure, danger, paranormal elements, drama, twists, mystery, romance, and unique characters, but it seems to be a bit incoherent. There were too many things going on and the way the book is written didn’t help me at all. The constant jumping between the characters and the impossibility to find a flow made the story extremely confusing for my taste. I usually will read the entire book regardless but I couldn't with this book. I could only give this one a 2 star rating. Maybe the next book in the series will be better.

This was my first book by Nesa Miller. The beginning of this book had me slightly confused but it ended up working out. Our lead female character is Etain, a human turned Alamir. Our main male character in my opinion is Dar- Lord Darknight. There are multiple players in this story and they’re all a great supporting cast. This story was well written and a unique take on lovers who have a hard time finding their time to be together. It was a good story and I look forward to the next book.

Alamir: Blood of Kaos, Book 1, Audio Book
By Nesa Miller

I love listening to audio books and this was no exception. The story caught my interest right from the start. The main character Etain is a girl I admire who I could could see myself befriending for her strength and courage after she loses her family. All the characters that come into play are well thought out. I can’t wait to listen to the next book in this series.

Alamir: Blood of Kaos by Nesa Miller is an exciting fantasy story with some really interesting characters. Etian is a strong and wilful heroine that is thrown unexpectedly into a world that she didn’t believe existed.
For me this book was made by the characters. I thought each of them had a unique take about them and they all worked together to make the story stronger. The overall writing itself I found to be a little disjointed although the story was exciting to read. It definitely felt like the first book in the series and I am convinced that it will only get better as the series goes on.
I am looking forward to see where the author takes this series and I am certainly looking forward to reading more of these brilliant characters.

The author does a great job keeping me engaged! I found the main character interesting and following her through her ups and downs was a page-turner. I'm interested in reading more by this author.

Alamir (Blood of Kaos Series Book 1)
By Nesa Miller
5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the book Alamir (Blood of Kaos Series Book 1) by Nesa Miller. It is a story that grabbed my attention from the start, and I found myself hooked. It is a book that includes action and danger. The story is intriguing and entertaining. I loved both the storyline and the characters. Etain has to be my favorite character. She is strong, determined, and doesn’t back down. I also did enjoy reading about the additional characters that interacted with Etain. Each has their part to play in the book and I found them to be interesting. The author does an amazing job of world-building. I found it original and I enjoyed how it is introduced and expanded up during the tale. I found the story to be written in such a way that I felt like I was right there with the characters. Don’t miss out on an amazing journey that will have you turning pages to find out what happens next. I highly recommend reading it.
