There are three things Ford Garrison wants more than anything: to build, to report to no one, and the chance to live his life without the prying eyes of the good folks of Eagle’s Ridge. Having spent ten years in the Navy as part of their construction battalion, he was able to live out most of that dream. Two out three wasn’t bad, right? Now that he’s out of the service, things aren’t falling into place quite as easily as he hoped and he ends up back home with all eyes on him.

It wasn’t as if Callie had gone out of her way to end up in Ford’s path, but somehow that happened all on its own and the town gossips were having a field day! Could she help it that she was living in the house Ford had hoped to claim as his own or that the work on his grandmother’s ranch meant they were living not fifty-feet away from each other?

Ford was determined to come home, do a job to help his grandmother and leave. Callie James is a distraction and she represents everything he has spent years running away from. Now he’s at odds with his friends, his family and himself about where his home and future are going to be.

Could he walk away from Eagle’s Ridge a second time?

My Review:

I struggled some with this novella, as Ford was a difficult character for me to appreciate. Ford was pretty much a selfish, cranky, tedious and whiny jackass. He should have known this as his amusing and clever friends had told him so, and he also had a few brief moments of uncomfortable insight. He had fled the gossipy small-town of his youth as well as his cold and stifling parental expectations for the Navy twelve years prior, but he hadn’t really enjoyed that either. He had temporarily returned to his hometown to oversee the renovations of his elderly grandmother’s home after significant storm damage, although his insufferable and calculating parentals had other plans in mind for granny’s property. During his efforts, he was highly frustrated, received a few shocking revelations about his family, and was lucky enough to have attracted the sweet and patient attention of a lovely neighbor who just happened to have had a long-standing idolizing childhood crush on him. Circumstances that should have made him happy just seemed to cause him more irritation, hmm, could his friends possibly have pegged him correctly? I think they were being kind, but of course, I myself am always a total delight. ;) Thankfully the light bulb popped, a major epiphany ensued, and all just in time for a sweet HEA.

Ford by Samantha Chase is the final book in the 7 Brides for 7 Soldiers, and what a sweet and heartwarming read Ford's book turned out to be.

I loved Ford and Callie together, they were likable, endearing characters and I found myself easily connecting with them. Watching their relationship unfold had me turning the pages late into the night. I needed to see how this was going to end, Ford was so determined he didn't belong in Eagle’s Ridge.
Sigh... Ford you stubborn, beautiful man, how could you be so blind to what was so obvious to us all?

This story had all those little touches everyone loves in a romance journey ... A dash of sweet. A sprinkle of warmth. A dusting of laughter. And a good dose of heart! I love when all these ingredients are woven together into a journey and cocooned with lots of love!

This story wasn't just about a romance journey. There's a lot of individual growth happening here and it made for the HEA so much more appealing. I not only was rooting for Ford & Callie as a couple, but I was rooting even louder for Ford himself. The man carried serious burdens on his shoulders and he not only needed to realize it, but he also needed to learn how to let go and live .... Such a sweet and poignant story you guys!

I do have to say one thing that is not really a big deal, but it's a thing with me .. this cover. It does nothing. It doesn't add nor does it subtract from the overall package and I am a 100% believer that covers should add. It's just plain. But the story is not ... it's anything BUT plain. Anywho, the cover is not a win for me but I also wouldn't put it in the loss column either .... like I said, it's a just a thing with me :)

Samantha Chase continues to showcase what a treasure she really is. Ford is realistic, simplistic and complicated. It's amazing that a subject that is so simple can breed so many complicated emotions. Ford has spent his life running. From home, from responsibility and mostly from himself. Callie has spent her life wishing for a place to belong to. A home of her own, people who love her and a life that makes her happy. Ironic isn't it that both were searching for the same thing. Acceptance. A place to belong. A sense of security. Each was searching for something they always had, but failed to realize. A HOME. Ford is an epiphany moment. The manifestation of something special and the realization of something wonderful.

I love a book that tugs at the heart strings, made me laugh out loud and swoon with a sigh. This book does all of that in spades. Samantha Chase has a writing style that I love, and this story grabbed me and took me on a heck of a trip. Ford's story, his history in Eagles Ridge, is suffocating until he finds himself in bed with a beautiful girl totally by accident!! Callie a kindergarten teach might be able to change his mind, will he consider staying, take on the ranch, the company, will it be too much pressure, stay with the gossips, help his Gram? You'll have to read it to find out, it's a amazing.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: FORD by Samantha Young is the seventh and final instalment in the multi-authored 7 BRIDES FOR 7 SOLDIERS romance novella series focusing on 7 former military heroes (family and friends) who return to their home town of Eagle’s Ridge. This is thirty year old Navy sailor and carpenter Ford Garrison, and twenty six year old kindergarten teacher Callie James’ story line. FORD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Some of the characters cross over between story lines and authors.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Ford and Callie) FORD looks at the building relationship between Ford Garrison, and Callie James. When Ford got the call that his beloved eighty-eight year grandmother’s house had been damaged in a recent storm our hero returns home to discover that the once feisty woman now lay injured in the hospital with less than happy prospects for a return to her once independent lifestyle and way of living; and a childhood acquaintance is currently renting the cottage on the family owned property. Enter Callie James, Eagle’s Ridge newest kindergarten teacher and the woman with whom Ford will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance between Callie and Ford, and the potential fall-out as Ford finds himself trapped between family obligations, and his need to run from everything Eagle’s Ridge represents-both past and present including the small town gossip, and never quite meeting the expectations of his otherwise successful parents and kin, in this Ford’s attitude is a bit disconcerting; the maturity level is questionable as he struggles to accept what is and what could be.

Ford Garrison had no idea what his grandparents had in store for his future but returning to Eagle’s Ridge our hero discovered more than he could have ever imagined including the knowledge that his heart truly belonged in the town in which he grew up. Callie James has had a crush on Ford for as long as she can remember but Ford’s need to escape the small town mentality and busybodies of Eagle’s Ridge meant there was an expiry date on their growing love-a love Callie knew was about to break her heart. As Ford struggles between head and heart, Callie begins to pull back fearing the loss of the man that she loves. The $ex scenes fade to black or are mostly implied.

All of the previous 7 BRIDES FOR 7 SOLIDERS story line ‘heroes’ make a cameo appearance or play a secondary and supporting roles. We are introduced to Ford’s beloved grandparents Ben and Margaret Garrison, his parents as well as Callie’s mother Ruthie James.

FORD is a story of family and friendship; expectations and revelations; falling in love and letting go of the past. The premise is heart warming; the characters are colorful and dynamic; the romance is passionate.

FORD, the seventh and final entry into the Seven Brides for Seven Soldiers series, is a delightful look at a man who is inexplicably drawn to home and family despite his efforts to separate himself and start a new life on the opposite side of the country. This series is an unusual collaboration between seven different authors, each with their own style and their own following. Best-selling author Samantha Chase was charged with the enviable albeit difficult task of wrapping up the series, and she does so with flying colors. The characters are wonderfully complex and the plot, as simple as it sounds, is well-written and compelling.
Ford Garrison grew up in one of the most prominent families in the small town of Eagle’s Ridge, Washington. He hated growing up in the public eye so he decides to relocate to the east coast. He finds himself unable to resist the call of home, however, when friends or family need his help. It was on one of these missions to help his grandmother that he has a chance encounter with Callie James, the daughter of one of his grandmother’s maids, leading him to question everything he thought he wanted in life.
I found Ford to be a fascinating character, even though at time, I just wanted to throttle him! He had a vision for his life based on events from his youth which totally blinded him to the reality of his life and new possibilities. Callie, on the other hand, was open to new possibilities in her life, but I wanted to throttle her, too. She was still intimidated by the differences in their backgrounds and in awe of the idealized Ford of her fantasies. While there is never any doubt that these two will eventually find their Happily Ever After, the carefully crafted journey with them to get there takes us through highs, lows, laughter and tears.
I have been a longtime fan of Ms. Chase’s ability to develop strong characters and solid story lines, and I have been especially appreciative of her ability to develop the romance between the characters without resorting to explicit sex scenes She knows when to shut the door and let the reader’s imagination take over.
While I loved the story of Ford and Callie, the book was not, however, without flaws. These flaws were not the fault of the author in my opinion, but rather the fault of the collaboration of seven very different authors. First of all, I have not read any other books by any of the other authors so there was nothing that brought me to this series until this final book by Samantha Chase, who is one of my favorite authors. The seventh book of any series, even one written totally by the same author, is not usually a good standalone novel, and I felt that I had missed so much of the background info on Ford, his friends and his family, that I never quite put all of the relationships together. The epilogue was a good summary of the series for those that had read all, or at least most of the books, but for those of us that had only read Ford, the epilogue was basically meaningless.
Regardless of the problems that I found with the series itself, I enjoyed the story of Ford and Callie and will not hesitate to recommend it to readers, especially those that are already fans of Ms. Chase. Looking forward to the next book and series that are wholly hers again.
I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Shucks, who doesn't love a small town romance with all the townspeople getting all up in the couple's business? Well, Ford Garrison for one, hates all that stuff . . . hates all the sharing of details, most of which are twisted and turned and so far from reality. Hates it so much he planned to never return to Eagle's Ridge for longer than a quick visit with his grandmother or his friends.

But when tragedy strikes, Ford drops everything to return home to help his beloved grandmother out, he's planning to stay just long enough to make the repairs to her home and then leave. He's got a life outside of Eagle's Ridge and he's happy on the west coast. But what Ford wasn't banking on is meeting Callie James.

Callie's always loved Eagle's Ridge and she's thrilled she gets a chance to stay in her hometown teaching in the elementary school. She's also loving the independence she has by renting the guest cottage from Ford's grandmother. Sure Callie knew Ford when she was younger, sure she had a crush on him like every other girl in school, but she never ever thought Ford would look her way!

Oh man, there were some seriously swoony moments between Ford and Callie. I loved Ford's protective side and how it came out with Callie. I loved the slow burn of their relationship, that they lived in the moment, but that the future was always on their minds.

I did struggle a bit with Ford's attitude toward Eagle's Ridge. He was a bit rigid in his views about small town life, due to things that happened when he was a teenager—he seemed view Eagle's Ridge through the eyes of his youth versus taking a true look a life there as an adult. But once he finally did, the story took off for me!

I am truly sad that this excellent multi-author series has come to an end! I've loved my time spent with these characters in Eagle's Ridge and have loved each of the 7 Brides for 7 Soldiers stories. ~ Missy, 4 stars

Samantha Chase never ceases to amaze me with her wonderful words and the way she evokes so many different emotions from me. Ford is such a sweet and heartwarming story about a man, Ford Garrison, who left his small hometown for the navy and basically never looked back. Sure he went back home to help his Grams whenever she needed him to, but he he never stayed long and didn't want to. He left the small town problems of everyone being in your business or their misconceptions and expectations because of his name and is happier without them. Or so he thought. Now he is home because his Grams is laid up and her home has some serious damage.
Ford agrees to stick around long enough to take care of everything and then leave again. Until Callie James. Callie had a major crush on Ford when they were younger and finds that not much has changed where that is concerned. Their chance meeting in the middle of the night, changes both of their lives forever.
These characters are both so real and likable, as are all of the supporting characters. I really love that about it.
Can two people who are perfect for each other find the home they have both longed for for so long with each other in a place Ford vowed never to return to?
Absolutely amazing story! I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

The end of a series that brings a lot of romance, friendship and self-discovery.

Ford Garrison had a great connection to his grandfather, Ben. Together they talked and worked on small and large projects. His grandfather was the founder of Garrison Construction.
But if there was one thing that Ford detested was the way of living in the small town, where everyone knew everyone's life, and they had a mania for gossiping. So when he got a chance to get away from it, he did.
Ten years later, and five years after the death of his beloved grandfather, Ford is back at Eagle's Ridge to help rebuild his grandmother's ranch.

Ford did not expect to find Callie James, a kindergarten teacher, whom he had known in childhood.

Ford just wanted to finish his responsibilities and leave.
But Callie became a distraction impossible to avoid and forget.

Now, he would have to review his priorities and decide if it was better to go back to his quiet life in Virginia, or if the turmoil of Eage's Ridge, with Callie in his arms, was his future...

Samantha Chase delights in her romance bringing us everyday issues and at the same time so profound subjects.

Sweet Easy Read

This is the first time I’m reading a book from this series but this can totally be read as a stand-alone. However, now that I’ve had a glimpse, I know that I’ll be going back to read the others.

I have to admit that Ford wasn’t the easiest character to like. He was so bitter and angry about having to be back home and feeling pressured into taking over her grandfather’s business but it felt like the person putting the most pressure on him was himself. He spent so much time trying to fight his return home that he didn’t seem like a very enjoyable person to deal with. Except when it came to Callie. He was a little more soft and happy when he was with her but he was still holding back.

Callie was the confident and strong one in this story. I adore how she wasn’t afraid to call Ford on his bs. She understood and respected his feelings and the pressure he felt but she didn’t hesitate to stand up and tell him when he was in the wrong. She was honest and straight forward with him and it was refreshing.

This was another sweet, easy read from Samantha Chase. I love that she writes stories that keep me interested but don’t totally tear me apart from the inside. This was a perfect weekend read.

Sadly the last book in the series. I love this town of Eagle Ridge. Ford never wanted to come back to Eagle Ridge, especially to live. When a tree fell on his Grandmother's porch, Ford finds himself back to fix things. One fix leads to another. When he arrives in Eagle Ridge in the middle of the night he decides it's too late to find a place to stay and his Grandmother's house may not be stable so he decides to stay in Grandmother's guest house. Ford goes to the guest house strips to his boxers and climbs into bed all in the dark. A little while later he's woken by a scream. And so he meets Callie, a girl he hadn't seen since she was a teen. Well, she's nor a teen anymore. Thus starts the story of Ford and Callie.
Ford is one hard-headed man. He can't see the forest because of the trees. The matters concerning him are, should he take over his Grandfathers business like he was always expected too, can he really stay in Eagle Ridge where everybody knows your business, and how does he feels about Callie.
Ford's story is awesome. It's about friends and family and love.

Ford by Samantha Chase proves that you can come home again and when you do, you might find exactly what you’ve been looking for.

Ford Garrison left Eagle’s Ridge as soon as he could. With a small town, everyone knows everyone’s business and that’s exactly what he wanted to avoid. Now he’s back because his grandma had an accident and her ranch needs to be fixed up. What Ford didn’t expect was finding Callie James.

Callie has had a crush on Ford for years and now that they are living close together, maybe she can change his mind about leaving. I loved Callie and Ford together. The romance was sweet and had me swooning at times.

Samantha Chase really did an amazing job with Ford’s story and I would highly recommend this one!

I loved reading Ford’s story. Small town boy who could not wait to leave town and does not like to go back very often or for long periods of time. Ends up having to come home due to a family emergency. When he meets Callie someone he knew of when he was younger but didn’t really know. He is instantly attracted to her but tries to stay away not wanting to get involved with a small town girl. And Callie is definitely a small town girl, who lives Eagle ridge and does not want to leave. I love the scene when they first run into each other. I found myself smiling many times through out this book, and even chuckling along the way. It is a great story you will want to make sure you read. I am looking forward to reading about the other guys in the 7 Brides for 7 Soldiers collection.

All Ford wanted was to help his grandma out and then go back east away from the town he thought was up in his business. But then he shows up in Callie's life and it all changes piece by piece. I'm glad he got his HEA, and that Callie was able to show him how he could fit in in his small home town. I loved the reference to another of Ms. Chase's books in the middle of the book - I love when authors do that!

This is the final installment of this 7 book series. Wonderful premise from the start and I was looking forward to reading the final chapter so to speak.

Ford comes back to Eagle's Ridge to help out his Grandmother. In an adorable meet cute, Ford and Callie James become reaquainted. Turns out, Callie is renting the cottage on Ford's Grandmother's property. They hit it off as friends and things develop into more. Ford holds back, though for most of the book. He is almost stubbornly annoying about NEVER living in this small town again. I think I would have hit him over the head weeks earlier and told him to get over himself.

Regardless of that, we do see all the friends again. Lots of teasing and loving support of one another. We meet the ladies again as well. Everything wraps up neatly as the series ends. Of course the epilogue is always my favorite and this one promises to end that niggly question of What is up with Ms Woods?

Read the whole series. Great job by this group of authors keeping it exciting and each book relevant to the other stories.

“That’s today’s lesson, Ford. Expect the unexpected.”

Ford learn the lesson his grandfather taught him the hard way. That’s the only way strong intelligent men like learning, isn’t it. Ford is the last book of the 7 Brides for 7 Soldiers series and it didn’t disappoint at all.

Ford Garrison is from the good part of the city, but he has always felt under the microscope… small town and all that. As a Navy SEAL, he used the skills he learned from his grandpa in construction. And even if he inherited his family construction company, he was nothing to do with it or his hometown. That is, until he needs to come back home to help her grandmother fix her house after an accident and he finds the girl living in the guesthouse.

Pulling back a bit, she looked up at him–and Ford knew right then and there that those blue eyes of hers were lethal.

Callie James is a sweet kindergarten teacher (some sort of kryptonite for Ford). Her mother used to work for the Garrison’s and she had a major crush on Josh when she was younger. Ford’s grandma, a former teacher, invites Callie to live with her to be closer to school. Little did Callie know that soon Ford will be living next to her while fixing the house.

“Come home with me, Callie,” he murmured against her lips before resting his forehead against hers. “Yes.” Never had a single word sounded sweeter.

The moment Ford got into her bed (thinking the guesthouse was empty, of course), they felt attracted to each other. But Ford is so adamant of staying in town for too long that he’s stubborn not to see how much he likes Callie. Ford is in constant battle with his feelings, on the first hand he wants to get in, fix the house and get out of there, avoiding everything his hometown has to offer. One the second, there are his feelings about his grandmother and Callie.

She swallowed hard and willed herself not to cry. “You’ve had so much pressure on you to stay from people who love you, so I need to be the person who loves you enough to let you go. Go and be happy. Wherever that may be.”

Callie is such an amazing lady. She trully wants Ford to be happy, enjoy him while she can. Even if she also has her own personal issues, the biggest one being her mother retiring and moving away. They’re clearly into each other, but what will happen at the end? We certainly have a happy ending. But you need to read the book in order to see how Callie gets under Ford’s defenses.

She wasn’t alone in how she felt, and he hated that he had walked about before he’d had the courage to tell her how much she meant to him. Which was...everything.

Not having read any of the other books in this 7 Brides for 7 Soldiers set, I was not quite sure what to expect from Samantha Chase’s character or story Ford. I knew I loved her other series and characters, so I was excited to learn about Ford and Eagles Ridge, but I was not expecting to fall in love with so many new characters!

Immediately upon starting the story I felt like I was a member of Eagles Ridge and could feel the small-town love and history with each conversation and anecdote. Ford was a bit of a tough character for me to appreciate because he did seem to miss the obvious answers about what he should do, but at the same time I related and loved his abhorrence of everyone in a small town knowing or seeming to know everything. I ended up loving Ford and not due to his relationship with Callie, which certainly was sweet and full of some great scenes, but due to his stories, flashbacks with family, and his relationship with his grandfather! I about cried from laughing over some of the stories his grandmother, father and he shared throughout the book about what his grandfather did either with a lot of insight or as a mistaken gesture. Callie is a sweet teacher who is a great anchor in this story. She does have some growth of her own due to her mother’s decision to leave, but for the most part she is the beacon of change for Ford. While many of the stories might be spoilers, I love those little tidbits, such as why the guest cottage was built, the importance and use of the doll house throughout the story, and the multiple bookcases (can you really have too many bookshelves?!!?!?!). The game changing character for me and that I did not see coming a mile away was Ford’s father…with just a few words my entire perception of him went up in smoke!

This is a quick, sweet and fun read. The book does talk about the other soldiers and their significant other, but I did not feel that I was missing any details to this story by not reading the other six in the series. Seeing some of the conversations, I do plan on now going and reading some of the other stories though! There were some parts of the book that I guessed ahead of time and other parts that threw me for a twist and I always appreciate when an author can surprise me and my expectation or perception of a story line. I loved the honesty and true love and friendship that these men had for each other and that showed in the conversations that Ford had with Adam, Ryder and at the end of the book when everyone got together. As I mentioned I did not know what to expect of this story, but I knew I loved SC’s writing and like always, she and her characters do not disappoint! I recommend this book and the lovely people of Eagles Ridge😊

I DID IT! I read all seven books in the 7 Brides for 7 Soldiers series. This final book by Samantha Chase was another decent read. Not great, but not bad either. Like most of the books in this series, it was a sweet, entertaining story.

Ford Garrison grew up in Eagle’s Ridge, WA. His family was well known and, paired with the antics of the small-town townspeople, made Ford feel like he was living in a fishbowl. His grandparents and parents had expectations for what Ford would do when he grew up, but understood when he left after high school to join the military. He now lives on the other side of the US, and only visits sporadically for short amounts of time.

Callie James also grew up in Eagle’s Ridge. Her mother was the housekeeper for Ford’s family, and Callie had always had a bit of a crush on the much-older Ford. To say they had two completely different lives growing up isn’t an exaggeration. Now she’s working as a kindergarten teacher at the school in Eagle’s Ridge, and is renting a small cottage that’s located on the property Ford’s grandmother owns.

When a bad storm causes a tree to fall on Gram’s house, Ford rushes home to oversee and help with the home repairs. He’s surprised to learn Callie is living on his grandmother's property. As they spend more time getting to know each other and falling for each other, Ford has to decide if maybe he belongs back in Eagle’s Ridge after all. As a hero, Ford was a bit self-centered, but a good and kind man. Callie was almost saccharine sweet - always looking to help Ford, his grandmother, her mother...just about everyone. But I liked how she expressed her feelings to Ford, and then didn’t back down without a good apology when Ford acted like a jerk.

Having read all seven books, I stand by my assessment that these coordinated efforts may not do an author any favors when it comes to showcasing their work. Of the few authors I’d read before, none of their submissions really wowed me. I was hoping I’d find a new author to like...and that didn’t happen either. If a book by Samantha Chase comes up that piques my interest I won’t automatically dismiss it, but I’m not going to seek out additional Samantha Chase books to read either. Also, I’m not sure why the series was titled what it was, because of the seven soldiers, only ONE got married, and only one was engaged. Sure, it appears they are all headed that way, but talk about being totally misled!

For the most part, I’ve enjoyed reading this series. I’ve enjoyed getting to know the seven soldiers and the women who captured their hearts, and getting to know all the townspeople. And thank goodness someone FINALLY found someone for Miss Woods!

Ford left his hometown of Eagle's Ridge as soon as he could. He couldn't wait to get out of his small town and the prying eyes of everyone that lives there. He hated how everyone knew everything you did. He wants his privacy. So he joined the military and now he lives across the country and only comes home when he has to. And his trips home are quick in and out type things. He doesn't want to catch up with everyone and have everyone stare at him while he is there. He has some good friends that live there, but he won't ever come back to stay.

When Ford's grandmother gets in a bind he comes right away to help out. He has some work he needs to do on her house and he is hoping it won't take too long. After all he has a job to get back to. Only it looks like her house needs more work than he thought. Plus there is Callie to think about...Callie who is living in the guest house and who he can't stop thinking about.

Callie was the daughter of Fords grandparent's housekeeper. He remembers seeing her around at times, but she was a few years younger and he never really knew her. But Callie definitely remembers him. She had a crush on him when she was younger, and man now the crush is back full force since he is back. I mean he has grown up to be an incredible man. How could she not still crush on him?

Callie was super sweet. She is one of the kindest people. She does what she can to help Ford out in whatever he needs. Cooking meals for him and his crew, calling people, whatever he needs she tries to help. Because that is just who she is. I really liked her. She was so sweet.

Ford is a pretty great guy as well. He doesn't have the best relationship with his parents since they keep hassling him to move back and take over his grandfather's company, but he can't do that. He can't live in this town. Only maybe he can...maybe if he gets out of his own way he could figure something out. He could be happy with Callie and doing work that he loves in a place he does love.

These two were really cute together. I really loved how Callie understood Ford and never pressured him to stay like everyone else in his life seemed to. She wanted what was best for him and if leaving town, which would leave her broken-hearted, was best for him she wanted that for him. Because as I said she was the nicest. The two of them together just worked and it was the story of if they could get everything figured out it would be pretty great.

Super bummed that this is how the series ended. I was hoping for something more intense, and this just didn’t deliver the impactful ending I was hoping for. Ford was not a bad book, it was sweet and light, and Callie and Ford were endearing, it was just too light for me. This series has been up and down for me, and I was hoping the final book would be a high, so that expectation certainly influenced my rating.

Ford is the seventh and final book in the Seven Brides for Seven Soldiers series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but there are recurring characters, and the stories build on one another, so I would highly suggest reading the series in its entirety, in order. Ford, like all the books in this series, is told in dual third person POV, by Ford and Callie.

Ford was an interesting, frustrating character. He was so stuck on this idea of what he wanted to achieve, of what moving back to the town he was born in would be like, of how stifled he was by the opportunities afforded him by his family’s legacy, he never appreciated all the things he had going for him. Nor did he ever stop to consider the things he wanted from life had evolved from what they’d been when he was barely an adult. Witnessing his slow realization that e wasn’t the same and his needs and wants weren’t the same, was interesting – he fought was his heart and soul knew at every turn.

Callie fell a little flat for me. She didn’t have much of a growth arc and other than being one of the catalysts for Ford’s awakening (and obviously his love interest) she didn’t add much – regarding her own story line – to the book. I always hope for a strong female lead, and she just didn’t quite stand up to the challenge, she spends little time on page where she isn’t completely focused on Ford, and I hoped for more from her.

I wish that Callie had been a more dynamic character. I felt like the only parts of her we got to know where the pieces that would affect Ford and I’m sure there was so much more to her than that. I also would have loved to have seen a little more conflict in the climax; there was so much foreshadowing as to what did happen I felt like it was lackluster.

Samantha Chase is a new to me author. While I wasn’t deeply impressed with the story of Ford, the writing was good. If the cover copy of another book of hers were to pique my curiosity, I would give her another go to make a more well-informed opinion of her as an author.

5 Finding Home Again Stars!!!

I absolutely loved how this book started! We learn a lot about Ford Garrison and an important lesson about life. It wasn't necessarily the lesson he wanted, but it held true for him for the rest of his life.

We next see Ford when he's forced to come back to Eagle's Ridge and he first sees Callie James in what could be one of the most surprising meetings possible. Let's just say that neither of them were expecting to see each other again and not in his grandparent's guest cottage. Once they got over their shock, while Ford recognizes Callie is beautiful, the feelings they have for each other is stronger for our girl Callie....
"There was a real possibility she was simply reliving her childhood crust but...no. It actually wasn't possible. Ford Garrison was just that attractive, and by the way he was looking at her right now, there was a good chance she was staring. Or leering. Possibly drooling."
Ford is back "home" for one reason only and when it becomes apparent his stay will be much longer than he anticipated, he has a chance to really explore what's going on and is there a mutual attraction for both of them. I LOVED how he loved his grandmother and wanted to take care of her and make sure she could have her home back in its full glory. Unfortunately things aren't as easy as he hoped they would be.

Callie is a woman that he should not get involved with but sometimes, the draw people have towards each other just can't be fought and you have to give in....
"There were many things Ford thought he'd be doing tonight. Kissing Callie wasn't one of them. Not that he was complaining."
Watching these two fall in love was such an emotional journey. Ford has a lot to think about both about what he wants out of life and his perception of what he thinks is expected of him. Having Callie come into his life at just this specific time throws him off kilter and I loved every minute of it. Ms. Chase has given us a book that is a beautiful love story but also a journey for our hero that enables him to see what his life could be if he'd let go of some emotions and make the life that he's avoided come full circle bringing him back to the place where his heart belongs.

Callie and Ford have a lot to fight for and Ms. Chase does a phenomenal job of bringing them to their HEA!

Ford
Samantha Chase
🌟🌟🌟🌟

I'm not sure I've ever read an author who can do romance quite like Samantha can. They are always sweet, with that little steam to make you keep turning the page. Ford is no exception.

Ford Garrison left Eagle's Ridge to join the marines and his intention was to never return, with the exception of holidays. But one phone call and a horrible accident with his grandmother has him returning to survey the damage. After a long trip, it's very late, he's extremely tired and just wants to sleep. Finding the spare key for the cottage, Ford heads into the tiny place and with no power has straight for the bed, what he didn't expect was to find a woman in that bed. Scaring the absolute crap out of him, Ford cannot believe when little Callie James is sleeping in his grandmothers cottage. But little Callie is not so little anymore, now she's very grown up, asserting her authority and is absolutely gorgeous. This woman will change the way Ford looks at Eagle's Ridge.

Once Ford has surveyed the storm damage to the house, and his grandmothers injuries he gets to work in fixing the damage. Never afraid of hard work, building things with his grandfather was something he enjoyed as a young boy. He grew up on this ranch, so seeing it badly damaged and desolate is sad. This rebuild will throw all sorts of balls at Ford. But it will be the woman who scared the life out of him on that 1st night that will make rethink everything about Eagle's Ridge, what he plans for the future, and how much his grandfather really knew about Ford.

With huge chemistry, Ford and Callie fall into an easy routine of dinners, laughter and good times until feeling make themselves known. This is uncomfortable for Ford, he wanted to get in and get out like his normal visits home. But this one will be very different, this time he'll have more than one reason to stay. But will he turn his back on his family, his small town upbringing and of course Callie to return to his life in Virginia Beach?

EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED - this was the very 1st statement/ line in this book, and is so very true. Ford had to come back to sort and repair damage, but he found himself sorting himself and his own damage to fix his own life. Beautifully written, sweet, perfect!

Ford is book 7 in the 7 Brides for 7 Soldier Series. Each book in the series has been written by a different author. What I find so amazing is that you would never know that. Each book links with the other books seamlessly. This can be a stand alone but I do think you'll get a better appreciation for the series as a whole if you read the books in order.

Ford has no intentions of ever living in Eagle Ridge again. Having grown up there he knows that there is no such thing as privacy. Everyone knows everything about everyone. He's a very private person. He has come back in town temporarily repairing his grandmother's house after a tree fell on it and she is in the hospital from injuries she sustained.

Callie also grew up in Eagle Ridge but has no intentions of leaving. Her mother cleaned Ford's Grandmother's house while she was growing up as well as working a couple other jobs. She's always had a crush on Ford from a distance. She is now a kindergarten teacher living in the little cottage that is on his Grandmother's property.

What I really like about this series is that each book is a continuation of these 7 soldiers lives. We get to follow along as they live their lives. Almost like we're one of the towns people.

Due to their close proximity Callie and Ford form a friendship that builds into something more intense. Ford has made it very clear that there is no future for them and Callie is a strong enough lady that she doesn't attempt to attach any strings.

As Ford friend's like to point out to him 'for someone who never wanted to come back to Eagle Ridge you sure are here a lot'. Which is true, he doesn't miss many gatherings or celebrations.

I really love that we got to revisit with Ford as he grew up learning his construction trade from his grandfather. His grandfather taught him valuables lessons while teaching him a love for the wood.

To me Ford building Callie a dollhouse that his grandfather designed when she was 10 and for her to still have it now was their lives coming full circle. What was meant to be.

What I really love about how Samantha writes is that there always seems to be an extra warmth to her books.

Fifteen years ago, seven young men were sentenced to detention together. They managed to forge a bond that has kept them close as they have left Eagle's Ridge to live their lives. One by one, they have been pulled back to their hometown & established their future. Ford is fighting this with every measure of his being. He is determined that he can never live where everyone knows everything he does & how he lives. Now, in a storm, a tree has crashed down on his grandmother's house & she has been injured. Ford promised her that he'd come home & oversee the repairs. He's already antsy & ready to leave, or so he thinks. But what's he going to do about the ranch & his grandfather's construction company?

Callie grew up with very little. Her mother worked several jobs so that they could get by. One job was cleaning houses, including Ford's grandparents. Callie had a crush on Ford throughout her teenage years. Now she is teaching kindergarteners & living in the guesthouse at the ranch. While Ford has been back, they've developed a friendship. Can Callie keep her feelings from getting stronger?

I love the connection that was established between Callie & Ford years before with the dollhouse & how it helps reestablish their relationship in some ways. The characters are fully developed & the interactions between the 7 men makes it clear how close their relationships have remained. Those interactions provided a number of hilarious moments in the book. The feelings come across that remind you of a family, not by blood but by experience & similar goals. This was another wonderful book in the series & well worth the money & time to read it.

I believe that Ford is my favorite in this series! He may not be easy to love…at least at first, he’s grumpy and isn’t the most pleasant person to be around but yeah, there is just something sexy and attractive about him, and I must not be alone because yeah, Callie thinks so too, LOL!
As with all of Samantha Chase’s books, I love how developed the characters are. You can “see” them from first meeting and grow to know them on so many levels, it is like you’ve known them all your life.
The meeting between Callie and Ford is just classic. I won’t go into details but it sets the tone for the book and this is one you won’t want to miss. There is so much emotion, my feelings were all over the page with this book.

Ford’s home to help fix up his Grandma’s house. It’s the one place he doesn’t want to be but he wants to help his Grandmother and so here he is doing the right thing. It’s that, that sets the tone for Ford for me. Regardless of his attitude and perhaps, some would call him selfish, he does what should be done and that shows his true character.

Destiny has a way of working things out and the road there with this story is amazing. There were moments when I wondered if Callie and Ford would make it. Though Eagle’s Ridge is a place he thought he never wanted to return to, he was running from the past and sometimes it has a way of showing us what we think we want is not always the best for us.

I highly urge you to pick up Ford’s story. You will absolutely love it! You will want to read it over and over again. A definite keeper for me.
