The Crimson Hue: A Modern Day Vampire Saga

Rate this book
When survival is dependent upon seduction… Join Mars as he immerses into the very primal culture of the real and modern day Vampire. This provocative saga is about a young man, who for reasons he couldn’t explain, always felt different… like a freak amongst the freaks! And then the cravings started. Fortunately, during his harrowing awakening, he stumbled across an eccentric but knowledgeable older man. An individual who knew about the beast that crept over his human cells, which raged inside of him and tickled his psyche with unwanted visions of homicide. But his mentor didn’t tell him he shouldn’t drink blood – instead he told him how best to acquire it. His Lair was a sanctuary where sanguine feeders could take refuge and grow into their own Vampire skins. He didn’t believe in clipping their wings, but instead he nurtured his kin and encouraged them to fly! This book contains frequent course language, violence, explicit sex and sexual violence.

D.D. Scarlet has always enjoyed the creative release found in writing. She is naturally introverted and growing up in the Australian bush in partial isolation, the beasts of the land became her familiars, and when life threw at her dangers and challenges, as life does to us all, her instincts peeked through the chaos and she quickly reverted to the primal behaviours imprinted on her during her childhood.
She is naturally happy and vivacious and sure, she can work a crowd like a celebrity when the need arises, or she simply feels the call, but once her desires have been satisfied she happily retreats back to her lair where she no longer has to conform to the societal smokescreens that enslave humanity and exhaust her.
Aside writing, her other interests are of a Spiritual/Supernatural/Paranormal nature… She has a passion for all forms of energy whether they be based in physics, blood, magic, prayer or the paranormal. Throwing open the lid of Pandora’s Box and investigating all the shiny things within both excites and pleases her.
How much of her writing is based on fact and/or actual experiences..? The real question, is how much of it isn’t?

Some reviewers find the amount of sex in The Crimson Hue a bit overpowering, but not me.
Nope. Nuh-uh.
I think this author is a superb writer of erotic scenes and this is indeed her strength. I hope she keeps playing to it.
The characters Jade and Mars are drawn with a keen eye and carry the story beautifully.
A great, lusty read for fans of this bloody genre.

A book Vampire lovers would delight in reading with plenty of raunchy sex thrown in.
Not a genre that I'd go for yet I love this writers style and ability to tell a tale with bite.

I received an ARC of this book. Let me say this: It’s 50 Shades Of Lestat.

Lots of sex, more than I normally read, and the story carries a spiritual message if you look closely enough. Bearing in mind that it’s not my normal read, I still found Crimson Hue captivating.

Mars, a young Goth, changes after his 17th birthday, but not the change an adolescent-turning-adult expects. A beast inside him awakens with a thirst for blood, and his girlfriend Raven is the first to see it.

But like a butterfly from Hell, Mars grows as a man and a Vampire when he meets others like him. A whole lair of them. And the sexy stuff increases too while he learns from his mentor about the victuals, seduction, and feeding the hunger within society.

But are the lessons enough when he falls in love with another of his kind?

You will have to read and learn for yourself.

I liked the characters and found it a mix of personal development wrapped within a story of change - the good and the bad.

If you’re into Goth, vampires, and sex with lots of sex added if you thought there wasn’t enough already... read it now.

18 y.o. Mars is not suffering average teenage angst. He’s just discovered he’s a vampire and is having trouble adjusting to the dark side. He’s lured into a blood-sucking community headed by urbane and charismatic Anton.
It’s not so bad especially as there’s a bevy of mega-babes who like nothing better than being leeched to get them in the mood. Deb Scarlet revels in the lust and licentiousness of it all, planting this novel squarely in the erotic-fantasy genre.
Mars isn’t necessarily a go-with-the-flow guy and often over-thinks his new situation, considering it mainly involves bonking hot chicks gasping to donate a pint of blood for the privilege.
This is a long book, but broken into bite-size (pun intended) chapters so we can smoothly follow Mars’ indoctrination into Haemoglobin Land.
Deb Scarlet writing style cracks along, so if you’re a fan of neo-Gothic with plenty of rude bits, 'Crimson Hue' is just the book for you.

The Crimson Hue is a new and intriguing story, looking into the life of modern day vampires. The story is based on the main character Mars, who discovers he is a Vampire and finds a new life with his kin. The book follows Mars as he transitions from his normal life, to his life as a Vampire and all that it entails.
I enjoyed the authors take on Vampires within this story and especially liked the realistic take on the characters. There are characters you like, characters you don't and of course those you love. I was engaged with the characters and followed them through their journey, keen to know what happened next. There is a twist towards the end of the book, which I thoroughly enjoyed and was not expecting. This is an Erotic Fantasy and does contain course language, but if you are a fan of the genre, I highly recommend.

The Crismon Hue is not the type of genre I read, well I cannot say that ultimately as it is urban paranormal fantasy just with a bit more sexy times than I would expect in the main stream version.

The Crimson Hue is well written and entertaining the thought of the erotic side of it is more a narrative tool than the main focus like in another book, 50 shades... Moreover, a thousand time better written!!!

Mars is the main character and as you can tell he is a vampire, but the concept behind this is surprising and marvellous! I have to tip my hat to Miss Scarlet! The dynamic of each character makes me want to read more and more. I love so many of these characters because sex is a means to an end.

I would highly recommend this book; it is worth the read!

Graphically written and very erotic in parts,The Crimson Hue follows the awakening and coming to terms of the main character Mars, as a member of the human subspecies -Vampires! Initially confused and in denial Mars stumbles upon a vampire lair where he is taken in and trained as a hunter and protector of the lair and the Vampire clan. Mars finds lust, then love - he also finds some aspects of the clan culture disturbing. Loved the characterization and descriptive passages - looking forward to the interplay of Mars, Anton and Jade in the second book!

Not just another vampire story. Of all the characters, Jade was actually the one who I found most fascinating. While the journey of Mars as he learns and understands his vampiric self is interesting, the complexity of being a vampire born of violence, like Jade, held more fascination and I look forward to the continuance of her story in coming books. A true saga, this is a long-ish novel, and certainly graphic, like you'd expect from a vampire story of old. And like the old, it invokes the wildness, the sense of the untouchable that the old vampire stories possess.

Stunningly honest and not leaving anything out, this new take on the vampire genre is honest and refreshing, exploring every aspect of a new vampires life. Well done and just the perfect amount of darkness and lust to make it a compelling read.

D.D. Scarlet's book 'The Crimson Hue' had me intrigued from the beginning. It was very entertaining, I couldn't put the book down wanting to know what the mina character did next. I enjoyed the characters discovery of his Vampire's abilities and exploration of his new identity. The scenes were riveting and a real pleasure to read.
As I like to offer advice to the writer to improve their next book, I found it rather difficult as to what I wanted to suggest to the writer for improvements. About half way through the book I realised that the main character had not encountered a major problem that was a real challenge to his new abilities. Sure he encountered challenges as he tried to adjust to his life as a vampire and even dealt with them in a very realistic manner, the writer seemed to have a precise formula for dealing with each problem.
As I was aware of this while reading I kept looking for the main problem. When a secondary storyline emerged from the main characters interactions with another vampire I had hoped that this would lead to a main problem. Then the story ended.
The story was really well written out thought out and each scene was crafted with great insight and precision. I really enjoyed this book and would certainly read more.

D.D. Scarlet's "The Crimson Hue" is definitely a value for money read. In this "nothing's off limits" tale, we follow Mars, a young man learning to be a vampire in the modern world. It's a seductive and violent look into the trials and tribulations of the vampiric way of life. Her characters are engaging and flawed (just the way we like them) and it entices you to want to know more. This has a clever interpretation of the legends of old and it's a Vampire story that holds its own. It's a captivating read, not just for fans of this genre.
