While Olus works to prevent the Nephilim from engulfing the entire galaxy in war and the Rejects plot to escape from General Kett, Abbey finds herself trapped in an ancient Seraphim stronghold and surrounded by more enemies than she even knew she had. Some of them want her head. Some of them want her blood. Some of them want revenge. Some of them want to eat.
And all of them want to kill the Queen.
Enemies become allies, allies become enemies, the stakes keep rising, and the intensity is dialed to eleven as the Demon Queen and her Rejects continue the fight to save the galaxy from the ultimate evil.
It's fragging time!
Kill the Queen! is the fourth novel in the science-fiction Chaos of the Covenant series: 1. Hell's Rejects 2. Fire and Brimstone 3. The Devils Do 4. Kill the Queen!
M.R. Forbes is the author of a growing number of science-fiction series including Rebellion, War Eternal, Chaos of the Covenant, Stars End, and the Forgotten novels. Having spent his childhood trying to read every sci-fi novel he could find (and write his own too), play every sci-fi video game he could get his hands on, and see every sci-fi movie that made it into the theater, he has a true love of the genre across every medium. He works hard to bring that same energy to his own stories, with a continuing goal to entertain, delight, fascinate, and surprise.
He maintains a true appreciation for his readers and is always happy to hear from them.

The team was split up and yet they remained true to their vow of family. Lot's of action and plot twists that have made this book one of my favorites in this series. Great work, M.R. Forbes!
I can't seem to stop reading this series . This book was just as good as the first book if not better . Plenty of action and the storyline is well written.
A first class story, characters and heroes. Pure pleasure. Highly recommended to all readers loving kick a.. heroine with heart and villains who need to be eliminated. High energy story telling with the galaxy in peril.
The series isn't a set of 7 books. It's one long book with 7 chapters presented as "books" for easier reading. They are arbitrarily split based on the number of pages. That's why each "book" has a cliff hanger—there is no separate story arch with resolution in each chapter. The whole thing is one endless pulp.
That's why the review is applicable to the whole series and every chapter individually. They are virtually the same plot with too many endless details of action/fighting scenes that just annoy after a couple of times and not enough story, world building, or character development to make it more than a junk space fantasy that feels like a "fast food" type of reading.
Looks like the author was training his writing muscles and repurposed—for the lack of the better word—many ideas and concepts from popular sci-fi books and movies. Think of the Chaos of the Covenant as the Star Wars with less story and more fights where the "force" is replaced with a space vampire blood's similar to the "force" abilities called "gift" and a mix of Suicide Squad and Guardian of the Galaxy movies' characters as "rebels". The whole thing with the blood is taken directly from a vampire stories cookbook. Though in the book the bad characters are never called "space vampires".
So, the book (with its 7 chapters) is space vampire fantasy based on Star Wars ideas and characters borrowed from Suicide Squad and Guardian of the Galaxy, and that is spiced up with stories from different cultures and religions to explain the said space vampires.
Queenie struggles to escape Thraven's minions while trying to understand the gift, it's relation to the shards and to her. Gant leads the Rejects into battle to capture a Republic battleship for a ride to find Queenie. Trin is back in robot form and tries to kill Queenie. She convinces Trin of Thraven's treachery and enlists her aid instead. Colonel Quark of the mercenaries wants to make love to her before he kills her, but comes to believe her after she subdued him and his crew. Is General Kett a good guy or a bad guy? Will Queenie get control of her changes and get help from the Shards? I'm now downloading the next book "Damned if You Don't".
The Chaos of the Covenant series is the first series by MR Forbes I came across on Amazon, and since picking it up I've also gone through the War Eternal series.
If you want fast action that doesn't ever feel rushed and that never falls into the trap of too much detail, these books are for you. At the same time, there are enough details scattered throughout the books that it's easy to get into the universes the author has created, and the authorised really indulges in long and dry exposition.
All in all, these are well-crafted, finely balanced science fiction stories. MR Forbes has made a fan out of me, and I hope he continues writing for a long time.
I don't feel this particular book was as good as the others so far, but it wasn't bad by any means. It felt like a middle book in the sense that the characters need to be moved around the universe in preparation for the next part of the plot. Poor authors could have used a few pages, a good author maintains the plot and has an entertaining book!
My only complaint about this series as a whole is the use of the word 'fragging'. It drives me nuts. I guess for the effort involved I'd rather just have the proper f bomb, perhaps because fragging doesn't have the same vehemence, I'm not sure, it just bugs me for some reason.
Ok. Ok. Enough with all the kick ass action. I'm getting addicted. This series is one part X-Men'ish, two parts Star Wars without punk a$$ whining Jedi. Take the Force (on crack), add some attitude, imagination, add a bunch of alien species that make the Star Trek universe look like Sesame Street, and add a dash of toss Jean Grey and hit blend. Sit back and enjoy the ride. I hate finishing each book. I really Friggin do! That means I have wait to read how much Culo is gonna get kicked. This needs to be animated in a hurry. A real life version would only get effed up.
The author himself gave me the idea for this review he he said in his final author's note that he's just a guy "creating worlds that you'll have fun escaping to". That it! I have fun reading this series and this book. It's a fun story. There are fun characters. The good guys sometimes have to do bad things for good reasons, and I quickly forgive them for it. Many of the bad guys are really bad, but some are likeable and a couple have even become good guys. Overall, the book is fun. Enjoy.
There aren't many authors who cause me to drop what I'm currently reading and turn immediately to something they've just released. M. R. Forbes is one of those authors. I've quite literally never been disappointed by one of his books and I've read them all. This series juat keeps getting better. Can't wait for the next book.
After book 2, took a bit of a side trip, but picked up #3 just to see if it was "worth it". Given that I'm reviewing book 4, it was. Appears that Mr Forbes has the knack of the action tale, and has a very good grasp of the cliff hanger ending. Even though it's a "little" manipulative, it's a recognized tactic in the battle for readers. Succes, over shame ;)
Maybe I should have given it five stars. I don't want you thinking I'm shilling for the author. I am enjoying the books and want to share the fun. The only downside is waiting for the next book. I dislike writing reviews. So this just show how much I want to make sure more people read the books.
The Queen Is Dead. Long Live The Whatever The Frag She Is!
The Rejects have some major problems. Well they have a General problem,by the name of Kett, causing a host of lesser problems. Foremost among them is getting themselves back together on a single ship and recovering their missing Queen. They're up for the task. They're the Rejects!
Thanks for allowing me (and others) to escape into your fantasy. I surely hope your writing provides you a good income. Another new author I like admitted to his email list that he needs to take a significant amount of time off writing fiction to be employed. So he can feed his family.
Four books in at Queenie and the Rejects keep on Rollin'. If I have one criticism, its that there are too many plot scenes going on at once. The scenes change from paragraph to paragraph just as one gets into what's happening with one group, Whammo!, you're off into a different part of the story. Still a great read.
Well I have romped through these first 4 books in no time! I just couldn't out them down. At a great pace you are propelled through a universe full of tech wizardry and mystic powers, following the adventures of the Rejects as they strive to save the people of the universe. Well worth jumping in to the ride!!
The humor and fast action combined with an increasingly complex plot makes this a good escape and one where I want to see where the story ultimately goes. But this is not for those who don't like a fair amount of violence and raunchy banter. On to the next in the series.
Action, characters with a decent amount of depth, more action. This isn't a character driven book, it's action. It was a fun read. Not something that really makes you feel anything, but fun. Like a A team movie.
Not too predictable, and just when you think you see a plot hole, the writer closes it up. And actually does so in a believable way. Looking forward to the next one.
Keeps the story going with good suspense. You will want to read more at the end of this chapter. There are lots of twists in the storyline that does not become apparent to the end
The writing continues to be tight and the editing thorough which is always appreciated in a novel and series. In this story the action seems faster-paced which is always a plus.
This was a rather suspense filled story. It had a number of things happen, and I rather enjoyed meeting Captain Mann's new partner, and also loved the voice she was given in the audio version of this story. Moving on to the next one.
And onto four out of seven. the story focuses more on Queenie and her gradual decline into demonism and her escape from the ancient Seraphim stronghold, whilst being chased by new and powerful enemy. We also have the return of an old adversary with a slight metallic twist and some new Rejects being recruited, including a brilliantly nicknamed 'Pudding', well done Imp!. We lose another Reject, although, hopefully only temporarily. However the rest of the Rejects have less to do in this book. I hope they take centre stage again. This as more focused on Queenie's struggles and Olus and Pahaliah and their attempts to uncover informationt hat the Rejects can use.
Even though my favourite characters weren't front and centre, M.RForbes writing style still moves the story along at a fast paced with nice touches of humour. I'm going to finish the final three books before moving on. It is addictive reading!
Very good continuation to the series as always Michael does an amazing job at writing even threw in a couple of twists that were really surprising and fun! Onto number 5!
