Sidearms and Silk

Rate this book
Private investigator Dax Mitchell has more pressing things to do than solve some mystery in small-town Kerry, West Virginia—that is until some sweet old lady begs him to locate her missing friend. Not even a hard-boiled, former homicide detective can turn her down.

Deputy Jessie Nash has enough on her hands, and the last thing she needs is an irresistible investigator interfering with her job. When her worse nightmare comes true, Jessie reluctantly turns to Dax for help. Working together is not her style, but even she will admit Dax is hot with a capital H. The problem is that the closer they work together, the more intense their desire for one another becomes.

When they uncover some truths neither wants to face, will it extinguish the passion that burns so deeply between them or make it brighter?

Not only do I love my hot paranormal fantasy romances starring yummy Alpha men, but I am now having so much fun writing my clean cozy mysteries set in Witch's Cove, Florida. The star of the show? Iggy, who is a 9-lb talking pink iguana.

I've been writing for twenty-one years and have a few other aliases. I hope you enjoy all my different series.

Sidearms and Silk is a great mystery, and it will keep you guessing until the very end. Jessie, a Sheriff's Deputy, and Dax, a PI hired by Jessie's grandmother, work together to solve a number of murders in town. As they shift through the likely characters in this story, you'll see why it so difficult to determine the culprit. There are a few fun and lighthearted moments when you discover the sassy nature of the senior ladies that live in Kerry. I loved this story and the little surprise at the end.

Wow! What a great new contemporary fiction must read! Sidearms & Silk is another intriguing & different storyline with mystery, that was fun & full of twists & turns that kept me guessing & glued to my seat! ... This author knows how to grab you from the start with fantastic attention to detail, well-defined & sometimes quirky characters that are even relatable :D Always witty dialogue & some steamy heat between the H/h and you've got another page-turner that will keep readers engaged & wanting more! ... Even tho I volunteered to read this in advance, I also pre-ordered my own copy to keep. So run don't walk to get yours & let your fingers one-click this awesome book :D

Normally books I have read of Vella Day have been shifter/paranormal books. So when I saw this book I was curious if I would see the same writing style I have seen in her other books. I can assure you that Vella does not disappoint. This book is creative and will keep you on the edge of your seat and at times you will not be able to stop laughing at the little old horny ladies of the town. This book is a Murder Mystery Romance and trust me you will love every minute of it.

Dax Mitchell was a private investigator. I bet he was not expecting the characters he would of meet in the small town of Kerry, West Virginia. His job was to find a missing elder lady. I almost laughed what her elder friends thought happen to her. Yeah, super funny.

Jessie Nash who was deputy of this small town was not expecting this handsome stranger that her grandmother had hired. What I could tell by reading this story that the town Kerry did not get to many studs that came into town. So I imagine why Dax had taken her breathe away.

Seems like the town Kerry has went crazy. There are disappearance, rumors of alien abduction doing sexual probing, and murders. It is Dax and Jessie’s job to figure at the truth and what is really going on.

While reading the book I could not help but try to guess who was behind the crime spree going on in this town. Well let me tell you my guess was wrong. I did not expect the person who was revealed.

There is danger at every turn and there is so much sexual tension between Jessie and Dax it is almost painful. Dax is very jealous and these two refuse to reveal their feelings to one another. You almost want to reach in the book and shake these two.

This was a great story and glad I got to read the book. I am so looking forward to seeing what other books Vella Day brings out in this series.

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read. This is the nice and light-hearted romance set in a very small town in West Virginia. Dax and Jessie are the main characters in this book and they have chemistry from the get go. Jessie has determined that she isn't going to find a man who will want to be married to her because she is so independent and Dax feels that he won't find a wife because he sees himself as broken due to his defunct leg. When Dax comes into town to help Jessie's grandmother look for her missing friend, he ends up taking on a lot more than he counted on. Jessie gets a case that involves the security of her small town and so she needs Dax's experience to help to bring peace back to the town. As things go along, Dax realizes he has nothing at home to go home to, but isn't sure that this small town is for him...or if Jessie will accept him.

Wow.. this book is amazing. Usually when you read a Vella Day book you think paranormal but wow this mystery romance is simply amazing. When private investigator Dax Mitchell is hired to find a missing person in Kerry West Virginia, he gets more than he bargains for.. Jessie Nash is a deputy in Kerry, when she meets Dax in the sherrif's office she can't believe her grandmother hired him to find her friend Sadie.. but when the sherrif goes missing, Jessie turns to Dax for help.. As they work to solve the mystery of what is going on in the town. They grow closer to each other... The romance is so sweet and incredible. And the story keeps you guessing as to who the killer is throughout the whole book....

Vella Day is one of my go to authors, and this newest book of hers is no exception! We are drawn in from the beginning, with a missing person, and the murder of another. What comes next is full of twists and turns, and whodunnits. New people in town, people who left returning, had me questioning just about everyone's loyalty in it. Oh, and let's not forget some of our favorite seniors and their "alien" encounters 😂. I loved the chemistry between Dax and Jess. While Dax was overprotective, he didn't try to overstep when it came to Jess and her job. The ending was absolutely perfect, and I can't wait to read the next book in this new series!!! This is definitely a must read!!!

Deputy Jessie Nash is busy. So, her grandmother decides to hire a P.I. when a friend goes missing. Dax Mitchell hates small mining towns, but he took the job and will see it through. No sooner does he arrive in town, when someone reports the death of the sheriff. When he and Jessie arrive on the scene, the body is missing, and this is just the start of the crime spree. If you are a fan of Vella Day, this book is a departure from previous books I've read, no paranormal and way less sex.

Murder, Mystery and Romance what more can a girl ask for. This was a great read. From the beginning it kept you guessing as to who was the villain and constantly rooting for Dax and Jessie to give into their desires. Each of them afraid and battling their demons but seeing how they each helped the other conquer their fears was so sweet. Highly recommend this book you won't be disappointed.

ARC reader, so I am giving an honest review since I received this book for free.

At first, just seeing the name of the book, I was kind of thinking this would be another book about cops falling in love after something tragic happened to one of them. Then I read what the book was about, and I was a little more intrigued. But wow, I was way off...This was definately worth the read!

There is nothing better than crime, mystery, intrigue and romance!! I loved this book! If you are expecting tons of sexual/erotic happenings, think again. Yes there is some, but the storyline and all the things occurring throughout the book kept me turning page after page to try to figure out everything. With everything going on in the little town of Kerry, in West Virgina, romance had to keep being put onto the back burner.

Vella did it once again!. Throughout the book I found myself giggling, on edge, pissed off and "warming up". I love a good romance/erotic book as much as anyone else, but this book had me hooked all the way through, because who doesn't love a little shock and awe?!

this was a dnf for me. The plot twist where Helter Skelter and the story just seemed to go on and on and on. The other thing that really bothered me was the main character Jesse, she was pretty much a wuss of a Sheriff. Letting the men tell her to go sit in the car or leave the room when unpleasant situations arose. Man up, you're the Sheriff. I like the author so I'll continue to read but this book just did not appeal.
