I’ve enjoyed every book in Toni Aleo’s Assassins series, but I love the first few the most. There is something about those original Assassins players/couples that made me fall hard for these books. I couldn’t contain my excitement when I saw a Fallon and Lucas Brooks novella was coming out. This novella didn’t disappoint. It made me smile, made me cry, made me feel, and made me fall in love with this couple and the Assassins family all over again.

I don’t want to spoil this short story for anyone, but if you are a fan of this series, it’s one you won’t want to miss out on! I can’t wait for more books from this series in the future. I only hope one of them is Aiden Brooks (Lucas and Fallon’s oldest son) He’s 17 now and I know he’s destined for great things! This book was a win for me! Loved it!

This was a decent enough read...

...but this series has definitely lost a bit of the...momentum of some of the earlier books in the series.

For me at least.

description

In this book we spend some time with Lucas and Fallon as 1) Lucas grapples with impending retirement and 2) Their son Aiden starts getting scouted for collegiate hockey.

I am guessing this will foray into another Bellevue book, with Aiden acting as the star...hopefully?

description

Regardless, while not my favorite thing ever, this was still a cute read that I think fans of the series would enjoy if they want really a visit with Lucas and Fallon...and are willing to part with $2.99 to get it.

I will absolutely still read whatever comes next in this series or the Bellevue series. Taking Shots was literally the first book I ever read on my kindle and, soon after that, my first foray into this goodreads world. I will always hold a special place in my heart for Toni Aleo and her brand of OTT sticky sweet.

Hoping Aiden's book is a good as I know she can make it.

Twenty-Two by Toni Aleo was a sweet, sentimental novella that chronicled the married life of Lucas & Fallon Brooks. It was a great way to catch up and see what our favorite Nashville Assassin couple have been up to.

photo 5840c19c33e372acf70ffd38d20b4d_zpsxh1qst2h.gif His heart soared for the woman she was today and for the woman he had fallen for so many years ago as he nodded. She was his heart, his soul, his everything. The words were easy to say, especially to someone he knew he would love for the rest of his days. ”

As usual the Brooks household is so busy and Fallon and Lucas are trying to balance in spending as much time with each child. And it seems their oldest son might be getting recruited early, leaving Fallon a bit sad that her baby might be leaving the nest. And as for Lucas, he knows he is getting up there in age and hockey has taken a toll on his body and so he must decide what to do next. Continue playing hockey or retire? But whatever Lucas decides on, he knows that his kids and especially Fallon will support him.

#22

Twenty-Two was like a bonus epilogue that put a smiled on your face. I love revisiting Fallon and Lucas and the immense love they have for each other and their family. So if you are a big fan of this couple, I highly recommend you to read this sweet and fun novella.

Twenty-Two was a novella in the Assassins series that revisited Fallon and Lucas Brooks from Trying to Score, book 2. This was not intended as a standalone and should be read with the series.

It was fabulously well written and surprisingly well developed for a quick and short Novella. I loved looking into the lives of Fallon and Lucas ten years later. Aleo reminded us why we fell in love with them the first time.

I also loved looking into the mind of Lucas as an aging hockey player. It's emotional at times and difficult to know exactly how many years are left and what's the best decision for everyone involved.

Aleo also painted a realistic picture of an NHL veteran and longtime wife managing the household. It takes special partners to juggle it well happily and it's another reason to love our Assassin hero and heroines.

True to Aleo's style, she wrote knowledgeable and credible hockey within the storyline; which added depth and dimension, a difficult feat for a novella.

Aleo prepped us well for Lucas and Fallon's oldest son's story, Aiden. He's seventeen, was an up and coming hockey star and was a prominent part of the book. If he's not part of the Assassin series, he'll have to be part of the Bellevue Bullies or a new spin off series. I can't wait to see how Aleo fits Aiden into the puzzle.

In the meantime, Jensen is next up in book twelve, In the Crease.

3.5 stars

This book includes two short stories. I enjoyed Twenty-Two, which follows Lucas and Fallon—an easy 4 stars for that one. The second story, about Jakob and Harper, was solid but not quite as engaging for me, so I’d give it 3.5 stars. About 60% of the book focused on their story, which made the overall rating land at 3.5 stars for me.

NASHVILLE ASSASSINS:
#1 Phillip & Reese - Breaking Away
#2 Karson & Lacey - Laces and Lace
#3 Jordie & Kacey - Overtime
#4 Benji & Lucy - Rushing the Goal
#5 Markus & Mekena - Face-off at the Altar
#6 Vaughn & Brie - Delayed Call
#7 Lucas & Fallon - Twenty-Two/ Jakob and Harper -One Timer
#8 Jensen & Wren - In the Crease

I've following the Assassins series since Taking Shots. Some books I loved, others not so much.
As any other fan I wanted a little glimpse in the future of those characters. So I bought this book blindsided because I was going to read the after the HEA of Fallon and Lucas.
What I got was shenanigans about Lucas's career and his son Aiden career. All the what ifs, the struggles and pains. Would Lucas retire? Because for sure he wasn't that young anymore. And would Fallon be ok with his oldest graduating high school earlier to go to college to play for the Belleuves ( another hockey series from the author). So, these were the conflicts on the book. It got boring.
Not a single naughty hot scene. Nothing. Lucas in his old age was always in pain. We saw some cute interaction with his other kids and that's al you got.
I like my smut in my books. I want to see that "old characters " are still going at it. Unfortunately, NADA.
And for that, I'm disappointed because I think some sexy is automatically expected from these books. At least for me.
So this little longer epilogue was very boring and I just finished because it's a very short book.
And when I saw the THE END I was even more disappointed so anticlimactic and abrupt it was.
THE END

This is a novella about one of our favorite Assassins couples, Lucas and Fallon Brooks, who we watched fight and fall in love in Trying to Score. Lucas has been playing for the Assassins for ten years now but he is getting older and his body does not bounce back like it used to. He and Fallon are busy with their careers and four kids. But Their life in Nashville is good.

Their oldest, Aiden, is now seventeen and has some great opportunities on the horizon. The kids are all growing up and keep them on their toes. Fallon keeps it all together while also running a successful business of her own. But both of them are struggling with their babies growing up.

Lucas and the Assassins are making their final push for the cup and can taste it. But as the players mature, there is more potential for injuries and change. Competition is fierce, and nothing is predictable or a sure thing. How will Lucas and some of his team mates fare?

I loved checking with Lucas, Fallon, the kids, Audrey, Tate, Ellie, Shea, Vaughan, Brie, and Jensen. It is also a great transition novella for young Aiden as we have the opportunity to see him start looking towards his future. Hopefully we will see more of him as he matures.

This was a short, sweet, crazy slice of life for a busy sports family. It brings change, challenges, and some surprises. But it shows the love that these characters have for each other. Assassins fans will enjoy this "little bit more" with this group. And I am looking forward to the next Assassins book, In the crease. I just cannot seem to get enough of this series and these beloved characters.

It seems so long ago I read their Lucas and Fallon’s story but I never forgot them. I couldn’t wait to catch up on the Brooks clan. Toni Aleo didn’t disappoint and my heart just melted over this book. She brought out all the feels.

This was a quick sweet and romantic read that is a great addition to the Assassins series. This book just encompasses so much love it was bursting at the seams.

oh-em-gee! what are you doing to me Toni Aleo???

This book brought out so many feels... SO MANY!

It was such a fun sweet book though. I loved getting a look back into the life of one of the original Assassins boys and his family. And man he's a charmer just like he was back in his original book.
But seeing the evolution of not only Lucas and Fallon. But the whole Brooks clan was crazy. It blows my mind as I keep up with this series just how far time line wise this series has come. To see Aidan all growed up almost. (yeah that was crazy hehe)

But this book was different. It still has all the fun playfullness that all these Assassins books have... But it also was a way of giving us some sort of closure to a particular chapter of this amazing series while Toni continues to give us new books with amazing new characters to add to the group we've seen.

And I love how she does that. we never lose out original crew but yet still gain these new characters and get to see the old ones grow and progress in So many different ways.

And oh man, I seriously adored seeing the Brooks crew. Lucas and Fallon have some of the cutest kids, and I loved seeing their family dynamic. how close they all are. And how they shape Lucas' life... the good... the bad.... the stressful... And the fun.

And in true to Kayla reading form.... I couldn't put this one down... And shocker! It's like 4AM and I haven't slept because there was a book to be reading of course haha
luckily this ones only a novella and was a pretty quick read (good and bad... I could have read a whole full novel from these crazies hehe)

This book was just so good. It really was a great addition to this series, and I'm always up for catching back up with some of my favorite characters (because TATE WAS IN THIS BOOK TOO!!! AGAIN!! God I love that character so much haha)
And I won't give anything away (pinky swear)
But as I said earlier. this book just brings out all the feels. so so many emotions. But in the best way. I'm glad we get that too. It makes these larger than life characters so much more real and so much more relatable. And I loved how this one ends. PURE BOOK PERFECTION.

I can't wait to see what Toni has in store for us as this wonderful series continues to progress

And give TWENTY-TWO *****5 STARS*****

Oh my gosh!! More Lucas, Tate, Aiden, and three other little ones in tow!!

When it comes to the Assassins series, I've always preferred the original men and their gals. This includes Lucas, Shea, Tate, Erik and Philip. The rest of the hockey men, eh, they're okay. I have nothing against them, but these five men are what made me love this series in the first place.

While Lucas is my fourth favorite man (my favorites are still Shea and Erik!), I loved seeing him in this different light and seeing him consider his options now that many years have gone by and he is no long that spring chicken he once was. He loves hockey but he loves his family even more so it was a bittersweet feeling to see him put those two into pespective.

It was also cool to see little Aiden all grown up!! Ah, that poor kid with a man bun that everyone wanted to chop his hair! Haha. Aiden is still the best son you could ever dream of and more. But now with him dreaming of following the same steps of his father to hockey stardom, it was pretty crazy to think that this was that little boy from bk2 who's now grown up to be a young man. Ah, the memories!! Please Toni Aleo, consider making a Assassins' children spinoff please!!! I love these guys!! I can't get enough!

REVIEW: TWENTY-TWO by Toni Aleo is installment 11.5 and the latest novella in the author’s contemporary, adult ASSASSINS hockey, romance series focusing on the men and women of the NHL’s Nashville Assassins. TWENTY-TWO revisits Lucas and Fallon Brooks (Trying to Score #2). TWENTY-TWO can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important from the previous installments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Lucas and Fallon) TWENTY-TWO catches up with Nashville Assassins’ hockey player Lucas Brooks as he comes to a cross-roads in his life and his career. With his eldest son, seventeen year old Aiden, making plans for his own hockey career Lucas knows it is time to make plans for his the future.

There are a large number of secondary and supporting characters including many if not all of the previous story line couples. We catch up with the team as they vie for the Stanley Cup championships, and witness another player as he struggles with his future-a future that may be out of his hands.

TWENTY-TWO is a sweet story line about family, friendship, choices and decisions. Toni Aleo gives the reader a glimpse into the physically demanding life of a hockey player and the stress on the family he/she leaves behind. The premise is realistic and enjoyable; the characters are familiar and heartwarming. TWENTY-TWO is a delightful look at a passionate player whose career is nearing the end.

Twenty-Two offers a fun, fast glimpse at the crazy lives of Lucas and Fallon Brooks during the playoff series as they deal with team travel, four crazy kids, and their own futures.

Lucas is getting older and beginning to feel his age in lingering aches and pains. But he is determined to play through, even as he wonders if it is time for some of his teammates to call it rather than continue to stress about injuries. Chasing another Cup, his focus is on the Assassins and his teammates.

Fallon has her hands full with their gaggle of kids and the winery. Knowing the kids are happy and settled in Nashville, she loves the life they have built, but knows things are bound to change. Their oldest, Aiden, is 17 and facing his own decisions about the future -- decisions that will change everything Fallon and Lucas thought his path would take.

There was one part of this novella that truly surprised me and left me feeling just a little bit nostalgic. But while I was a little down about that event, ultimately I finished the story feeling a bright hope for each of the characters in the Assassin’s world.

This was a fun return to the Assassin’s family. Many favorites pop in, either at game time or as the extended family gathers for various events. I always look forward to seeing what is next for this family oriented team and that is no exception as I finished Twenty-Two. I can’t wait for the next full length novel in the series and seeing more from this team.

I think even all these books later that Lucas Brooks is still my favorite all time hero in this series. I fell in love with him in Trying To Score, so when I found out we were getting a novella of him and Fallon I was so so excited. I laughed, I cried, I hurt, I smiled and I really loved Twenty-Two because I felt so many emotions reading about the next step in Lucas and Fallon’s story, as well as reading more about their kids.

I had a feeling I knew where this one was going and I was right but I also think that the way Ms. Aleo wrote it not only opens the options for more of the Brooks clan but did justice to Lucas, his career and family. I don’t know if I would have loved it if it had gone in another direction, in fact I know I wouldn’t have. For a very short time Fallon got on my nerves but I had to remember I will be in her position when my kids get older so I will probably act like her or worse, but lord I hope not lol.

Twenty-Two reminded me why I loved Lucas Brooks as much as I did and has made me want to go back and read his book again. If you are a fan of this series I think you will not only love Twenty-Two but also agree that the direction the story goes was the perfect choice for these characters.

I have much love for the Assassins family they're like a team I follow but in books. I missed Lucas and Fallon, one of the original couples happy they get this short. Definitely excited to catch up with their fam.

Assassins camaraderie has always been strong and the bonds even stronger, not only a team but a brotherhood of sorts. Lucas Brooks has been one of dads of the group and lots of respect there. I could go on and on about the topic of this book but I won't. It's a reason I love sports though. Just to say the evolution of Lucas and the Brooks clan has been special to be part of. All the feels, happy, sad and bittersweet fun. It was another proof of the strength of Fallon and Lucas story.

We get to see the other guys and their broods too! Which is always great. Plus Aiden is so next gen Assassin in the making. It got me going as a hockey fan! Eepps! Fans of this series don't miss this sweet and awesome novella!

This is a novella in the Assassin's Series by Toni Aleo. It should be read in order of the series. This one takes us back to Lucas and Fallon. Their kids are growing and life is changing in both good and heartbreaking ways.

Fallon has always been one of my favorites as the series has gone on. It was great to see her feisty attitude again but so touching to see her soft maternal side as well.

Perfect book to catch up on the whole team, take a gander at all the kiddos, and Holy Cow! Way to lay the groundwork for another Bullies book *fingers and toes crossed*. LOVE seeing what a great young man Aiden has become!

Great addition to the series! Can't wait for more!

Short, sweet and to the point.

I loved going back and seeing more of Fallon, Lucas and their kids........IT was the perfect conclusion for this wonderful couple and family. Twenty-Two (Assassins #11.5) by Toni Aleo I adored Toni Aleo’s TWENTY-TWO. We heard Lucas Brooks’ and Fallon Parker’s story in the second book of the Assassins series, TRYING TO SCORE. I love that Toni Aleo revisited Lucas’ life towards the end of his career in book 11.5, TWENTY-TWO. I also appreciated, the glimpse of his son, Aiden’s life, as well as the other Assassin’s and their families. Like the other books in the Assassin’s series, this story takes place in Nashville. It is suitable for adults.

I have always liked Lucas. He is one of my favorite Assassins. I don’t think I am alone in that regard. He is a dynamic character that you cannot help but respect. Lucas faces several issues in this story. He has to make life-altering decisions. I think it is wonderful how Fallon supports him. Those two have come a long way. They truly love each other. They have a terrific family, their own and their extended Assassin’s clan.

I enjoyed the insight into the difficult situations Elli must deal with as the team owner. She is a good friend to the team, but she is still their boss. It is a delicate balance.

I think the progression into Lucas’s son; Aiden’s life was perfect. I love that he is being recruited by Bellevue. That is the perfect transition to the Bellevue Bullies series. I’m hoping we are going to hear his story.

TWENTY-TWO had a perfect ending. Toni Aleo is an amazing writer. She has done a fantastic job keeping this series fresh and relevant. I always look forward to reading her books. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Trying to Score (Assassins, #2)
Empty Net (Assassins, #3)
Falling for the Backup (Assassins, #3.5)
Falling for the Backup Epilogue (Assassins, #3.6)
4 & Counting (Assassins, #3.7)
Blue Lines (Assassins, #4)
Breaking Away (Assassins, #5)
Tangled in the Laces (Assassins, #5.5)
Laces and Lace (Assassins, #6)
A Very Merry Hockey Holiday (Assassins, #6.5)
Wanting to Forget (Assassins, #6.6)
Overtime (Assassins, #7)
Rushing the Goal (Assassins, #8)
Pucks, Sticks, and Diapers (Assassins #8.5)
Face-Off at the Altar (Assassins #10)
Delayed Call (Assassins #11)

This is more of Fallon and Lucas’s story. They have been together for years and have children that have grown up. Lucas is going through lots of aches and pains after playing for years. It is looking like he may need to slow down but for a man who breathes hockey and his family it feels like he is losing a piece of himself. Will he continue to play or is his life going in a different direction? Love all the updates and to see him when his kids are grown. Hope we get more updates from not only this couple but there children also.

I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

I LOVE this series so much, not to mention the author, so when she put out a novella about a past couple that I fell in love with, I was ever so excited. AND she did NOT disappoint at ALL! It's decade later, and Lucas Brooks is nowhere close to the brawling hothead he was when he was traded to the Nashville Assassins, in fact, he's a great family man who loves every one of his children, and more in love with his life than ever. But time never slows for anyone, and he's just about at the end of his career, and instead of dwelling on things, he's in the end of season for the cup. I have one complaint, and it's my whining about needing so much more, as I couldn't get enough! In my opinion, there's nothing better than seeing a favorite couple in my heart, fast forwarded to see their life. Toni Aleo with her talented writing style, is one of my very favorite hockey authors, and I don't really watch a ton of hockey, but after reading her, I find myself watching more and more. It's a quick read, but it's filled with love, laughter, and a huge twist to boot. I hope she NEVER stops writing about her drool worthy hockey players, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I am a fan of the Assassin's from day 1 and fell in love with Lucas and Fallon and their boy Aiden. It was great to get a look at what their family has become after all these years.

As they fight for the cup Lucas is very tired and feeling his age. He loves playing hockey with everything in his soul. He also loves his family with his whole heart.

Fallon is trying her best to run the household and her business while Lucas is playing hockey. When there is talk of Aiden finishing school and heading to college early, she is an emotional mess. She is super supportive and wants him to have his dreams but just isn't ready for him to go.

When Lucas' meeting about his contract doesn't go as he expects, they have a whole different worry on their hands. But they try hard to keep the focus on the cup for now. Will they find a way to stay or will they be off to a new team?

I love seeing more of the family life. I could still feel the love these two have fir each other. The support that they give each other is one of a kind. I always want more when I read a novella, I was not ready for it to be over yet.

Ugh I love this series so much it's not even funny. It's insane how a novella could have me laughing and crying at parts. It really just makes me want to read the series over from the start. Maybe with Aiden we would get another college series out of her??? Can't wait for her next book to come out

I liked how we got to catch up with one of the previous couples. It was interesting to see Fallon and Lucas go through more phases of their life. I liked the choice that Lucas made at the end, thought it was the best for him and his family.

OMG! I just realized how much I missed Brooks family. I adore Aiden. I am hoping we will get a book for him too. Maybe as a 4th book in 'Bellevue Bullies'. Cannot wait to read the next book in the series...

5 Assassin Stars

I loved catching up with the Brook's family. in this Assassins novella. I love the Assassins Series and getting to hear about past characters is one of my favourite things to read.

The Assassins are fighting for the cup and Lucas is tired and feeling his age. He's not ready to give up his spot on the team but her may not have a choice. But his kids are getting bigger and he feels he's missing out on that.

This was a short, sweet and funny read. As always with Toni's books I read it in one sitting. I'm looking forward to seeing where Toni Aleo takes this with her next books.
