A gay marriage of convenience plays out on reality TV...
Lifelong friends Noah and Brenner are determined to make it to the top in Hollywood. When they learn the new reality TV show only accepts married couples, wedding bells are in their future.
Brenner can't shoot for second place. Only the top prize pays enough to cover his mother's medical bills. He can't be choosy about the roles he accepts-- and he can't tell anyone how tough it is to play the happy hubby of the guy he's had a crush on for years.
Noah has screwed up on social media one time too many. Playing Brenner's husband on the new show might be the only way to cash in on his bad boy image. Trouble is, he has a secret-- and he doesn't know how long he can keep it from Brenner when they're sharing the same bed.
"Scripted" is a full-length standalone 60,000 word contemporary gay romance novel with NO cheating, NO cliffhangers, and a guaranteed Happily Ever After. Expect a tropical island where clothes mysteriously disappear, best friends are destined to become lovers, and somebody is determined to hog all the cupcakes.
I received an ARC of this book from Parker Avrile but wasn't obligated to review it. Since I try to review all the books I read, this was an easy task to complete! The only other book I've read by her is 'Star Turn' and it was fantastic, so I have high hopes for this one as well...
This was a fun, light hearted story with two long time friends who finally accept the fact that they love each other. Of course it takes some soul searching while on a tropical island while being filmed during a 'Survivor' type reality show. As with all reality shows there is an entertaining group of misfits, crazy challenges and impossible odds to overcome.
Brenner and Noah have to rely on the skills they learned following their parents around the world. Since so many of their fellow cast members are willing to do anything to win the prize money, there is a lot of latitude in what they can do to each other, some with hilarious results!
Enjoy your time on the island...you'll never look at pretty bushes the same way again.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book for my honest opinions. Parker is becoming one of my favourite authors, I was hooked all the way to the end with some things I think make a good plot, an interesting make on this storyline, loveable characters, hot men and great sex with said hot men. Brenner and Noah made me smile a lot and kept me captivated to the end. I can honestly say I recommend this book.
This book was a struggle to read. You know when a light flickers and you see someone move in stuttering pictures? Yah, that's how this book read. For a book centered on a reality TV premise it really took a leave of absence with true life possibilities. The show concept was silly. The dolphins? Ugh. There wasn't anything really compelling about the it, and the min characters were just meh.
Technically a DNF. There was nothing worth reading in here. Not sure any part of reality works the way the author thinks it works, the flow of the story was extremely choppy, and the characters were both shaping up to be utter assholes. Plus we just spent two chapters learning about how the one character interacts with twitter and hates everything.... I just can’t. You’re welcome to try, but I am out.
This book was a happy surprise. A melange of fake marriage, falling for your best friend, forced proximity, a reality show, a deserted island... There were no real bad guys, not in the grand scheme of things. Except maybe the rare cancer of the mom. Full of clever moments and funny bits which help the cheering for our heroes along, everyone gets their happy ending. A feel-good book that will leave a smile of hope for a new day on your face.
Amusing, with lots of shenanigans on an island, with all the subterfuge involved in “non scripted” Hollywood. The leads are boyhood friends, one caught up in paying for his mother’s medical costs (yay, American medicine), the other trying to help even though he signed a DNR contract.
I picked this up at a moment when I was struggling to get into a book. Unfortunately this didn't capture me during the 1st half of the story, but I started crushing on this couple in the 2nd half. I will be picking up other books by Parker Avrile.
