Texas mogul Beau Reese is furious. All six feet three obscenely wealthy, good-looking inches of him. His 60-year-old father, Stewart, a former state senator no less, has impregnated a teenager. Barely able to contain his anger, Beau is in for another surprise. It appears that Stewart has moved an entirely different woman into the house.
Beau assumes that stunning Cassidy Jones is his father's mistress. At least she's of age. But those concerns take a sudden backseat when he finds Stewart in a pool of blood on the floor of his study — and Cassidy walks in to find Beau with his hand on the murder weapon.
The shocks just keep coming. Someone was following Stewart, and Cassidy is the detective hired to find out who and why. Now she'll have to find his killer instead. Her gut tells her it wasn't Beau. And Beau's instincts tell him it wasn't Cassidy. Determined to track down the truth, they form an uneasy alliance — one that will bring them closer to each other — closer to danger and beyond.

This is a well-written, entertaining, steamy, romantic suspense novel. It has a likable, strong, capable, and intelligent female protagonist, a wealthy, kind and caring male protagonist, murder, intrigue, mystery, sizzling chemistry, relationship drama, action, twists and turns, and a satisfying conclusion. This is the second entry in Ms. Martin's outstanding Texas Trilogy series, and it can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. Ms. Martin's loyal readers will appreciate the appearance of some characters from her fantastic Maximum Security series. I am looking forward to reading Josh's story with great anticipation. Ms. Martin never disappoints her readers! I listened to the audio book, and the narrator, Mr. Jack Garrett, has a captivating voice and does an excellent job depicting the characters and their personalities.
I just LOVED this book! Beau and Cassidy were great characters that kept things interesting all the way through the novel! I would categorize this more as a romantic suspense novel because I felt the romance was a big aspect of this story but still had a highly enjoyable mystery. From the beginning, there is a lot of page turning suspense going on that keeps you hooked throughout this fun and thrilling novel. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great romantic suspense with some nice twists and turns!
Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.
Beau is such a sweetheart. My heart just broke for him in Beyond Reason. How tragic to lose the love of your live to cancer at such a young age. If he makes a muck of his chance for true love with Cassidy because of that I'm going to be really, really disappointed. I am no a fan of the "I can't love you because the love of my life died, but I can bang your brains out" Troup. Of course, having to find his father's killer and taking care of Missy, a barely legal teenager who is very pregnant with his half-sister, is going to take some time. On top of all that Beau is the prime suspect in his father's murder and uncovering Daddy Dearest's Deep Dark Secrets is really painful, but not at all surprising. Just which one of those secrets got him killed is what Beau and Cassidy will need to discover.
Cassidy is a PI with Maximum Security in Dallas, TX. Former Texas State Senator, Stewart Reese, has hired her to do some investigating. Shortly after she starts the job, he is stabbed to death and the only suspect is his son, Beau. At first Cassidy didn't know if Beau was guilty or not. All she knew was that he was one very hot, sexy, handsome, billionaire and, in order to prove his innocence, he desperately needs her help. What she doesn't need is to fall in love with him.
Beyond Danger enthralls readers with lots of suspense and a romance that begins with a very uneasy alliance.
First, let me just say that the romance between Beau and Cassidy is one that is a sizzling and heated one that keeps readers guessing throughout the story. Both characters are strong and appealing which draws readers into their story and the romance is a roller coaster ride of turbulence that keeps readers glued to the pages.
Anticipation steadily builds throughout the story, not only in regards to the romance but the danger and excitement that stems from nefarious characters that are dead set on keeping Cassidy and Beau from learning their secrets. The twists and thrills ensure that this fast paced story never has a dull moment and that readers aren’t sure just who the real enemy is nor what he is really up to.
I have read lots of great books by Kat Martin, but this is the first one in the Texas Trilogy that I have read and I have to tell you that I can’t believe that I haven’t read the first one yet, because as usual Kat Martin paints vivid pictures of her stories that make the readers feel as if they are part of the unfolding story. Beyond Danger was a very exciting read that kept me glued to the pages and not only am I going back and reading Beyond Reason, but I can’t wait to read Beyond Control, which is due to be released in May.
I enjoyed Beau's story as much as Linc's. Cassidy was an awesome kickass character and great for Beau. The mystery of Beau's father's death takes all kinds of twists and turns. I look forward to reading Josh's story next. I hope she continues beyond #3 like she has before. Plenty of guys left to have a great story.
This book started out as a thriller. Finding his father murdered, Beau is found standing over the body with the murder weapon in his hand. So it begins. What started out sizzling quickly fizzled into lust, a little action, get into an altercation, have sex, find a clue, have sex... so silly. So tiring and boring. Without spoiling the ending, (for those that make it that far) how the plot got SO off base is beyond me. The author had to think of new ridiculous avenues for the mystery so the couple could have sex again. I gave this book 2 stars because I finished it. Why? I don’t know! Sorry Kat Martin, my first and last of your novels.
Kat Martin has the ability to draw a vivid picture that readers will feel as if they are in the story. Beyond Danger is a well crafted romance story that will keep readers glued to the pages. The author has the ability to keep a steady pace as the story moves forward as she fills in the details of the people and the world she created. The romance is front and center with the suspense taking a back to seat many times.

Received an ARC at no cost to author. It tend to enjoy Kat Martins book, I have been following her for years and as much as I was anxiously awaiting for this book it wasn't my favorite, not bad just not my favorite. So we met Beau in last book Beyond Reason, he was Linc's best friend and I was intrigued by him. Poor Beau found his father murdered and even though they had a difficult relationship he still wanted to know who killed him. The Senator (Beau's dad) had felt that someone was following him so he hired a PI by the name of Cassidy, and she was is also now Beau's love interest. I got say this is why I wasn't crazy about Beau, I didn't like her, from the get go and even though I enjoyed the rest of the book, she just never did it for me. I was happy to read about previous characters but kind of hoped they had just a little more time in this book, juuuuust a little. Anyhoo, still a fan and now hoping to read Josh's story.
I'd found this one to be quite boring, and I was so disappointed! I've read other books from her and was quite taken with them. So imagine my surprise that this one just didn't hold weight. The lack of [realistic] cursing was one thing-- I actually wonder if the author had developed some sort of aversion to cursing-- but it was QUITE another to read an appalling description of the book's only black character.
"Where you been hidin', girl?" Connie called out in a voice tinged with her African American heritage and her Detroit upbringing.
...I couldn't even imagine what possessed the author to write this, and for it to go unchecked by the editor. Yes, I realize that the editor may have pointed this out but the author decided to keep it there, but I doubt that. But white authors... I PROMISE you, this isn't the way to write black characters. AT ALL!!
And then, the ending came WAY out of left field that I asked out loud "Wait, was that even set up?! Who was this character now?" The way everything was explained just didn't make any sense. Not to mention, it was just BORING. The entire book was just a snoozefest and beyond disappointing.
Thank you to the author and publisher for an ARC of Beyond Danger via NetGalley for an honest review. This is the second book in the trilogy and although I have not read the first book (yet!) I had no trouble following the storyline. Kat Martin is one of my favourite author's and never fails to deliver a story full of suspense and well-crafted romance that keeps the reader engaged. Beau and Cassidy meet at his father's home and he assume's she is his father's latest love interest. She is definitely not and when Beau's father killed in his own home, Beau is found standing over his body with the bloody knife in his hand. Were they at odds enough for Beau to kill him? Especially after Beau finds out that his father, a former state senator, has impregnated a very young woman. I loved the chemistry between Beau and Cassidy and I will go back and read Linc's story in the first book. Beau reminds me a little of Thomas Magnum from the Magnum PI series of the 1980's. Lots of twists and turns that keep the reader involved and Martin's ability to keep the reader engaged and drawn to the characters prevails throughout. A great read!
This was a mystery, suspense romance and it delivered. It was a nice change from what I normally read, and kept my interest. I have the other two in the trilogy and will read them at some point. Not sure why I started with book 2, but whatever. Didn't really bother me.
Another exciting story in The Texas Trilogy. Beau and Cassidy start out on the wrong foot but have to start working together when Stewart, Beau's Father is killed. Seems something just does not make sense. There does not seem to be a reason for the murder. Stewart is a wheeler dealer who has made some enemies but all of the obvious ones are cleared. There is a exciting twist to the story line. Martin builds a large amount of tension as the plot continues to develop. Beau and Cassidy are both interesting and well developed characters. Fast paced and hard to put down are both qualities in Beyond Danger.
I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.
I liked it well enough to keep reading it though it seemed... stretched out, too long at 367 pages.
I recommend it both as a romance and as a mystery. It does well with both.
The main characters were well matched and a step above the average.
The end seemed to wrap up too fast. I spent the book waiting for it to get somewhere and the clues were so spread out and slow in coming then suddenly there's a breakthrough in their mystery almost at the very end and there's an avalanche of information and the mystery is resolved and then their relationship is resolved. I don't really know that that's a problem though, it just seemed strange to go through the drawn out story and then have it wrap up so quickly.
Worth reading.
Never read a Kat Martin book before. Will look at her others and see if anything else catches my eye.
I was bored. Didn’t connect with characters, only finished to see who killed his father, if I was right or not. I normally like Kat Martin, but it’s been a while since I’ve read one of her books, and I don’t think I will pick up any new ones.
This was a well-written romantic suspense that kept me turning pages as I tried to figure out what was going on. Beau Reese and his father, a Texas state senator, had never seen eye to eye. Beau preferred to keep his distance. Until the day the woman who ran the diner in town, Josie, and her nineteen year old daughter, Missy, came to see him. Missy is pregnant and the baby is the senator's, a fact proven by a DNA test. Beau's father offered Missy money for an abortion but when Missy refused, the man said he wanted nothing more to do with her.
Beau is furious when he heads to his father's ranch, after assuring Missy and her mother he'll take care of them and Missy will never have to worry about money again. Of course, he and his father argue but at least the senator agrees to sign over full custody of the child to Missy along with the promise to not interfere in their lives. However, when Beau returns with the papers for his father to sign, he finds his father lying on the floor with a letter opener sticking out of his chest. The man is still breathing so Beau does what he can to try and save him.
Cassidy Jones is a private investigator, hired by Beau's father after the senator is convinced someone is following him. She's posing as his new assistant when she walks into his office to find Beau leaning over his dad's body, clutching the murder weapon in his hand. He screams at her to call 9-1-1 but its too late. The senator expires.
His death sets Cassidy and Beau on an investigation together as they try to determine who the killer was and the motive behind the killing. While Beau is certainly suspect, Cassidy believes in his innocence. She's more inclined to believe the killer is connected to whomever was tailing the senator. The more Beau and Cassidy dig into the case, the more apparent it becomes that now their lives are in danger. But neither one will give up, not until they bring the guilty party to justice.
This one had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing to the last. The romance between Beau and Cassidy was a nice touch even though the reason behind Beau's reluctance to get involved didn't seem to fit his character and the way he was portrayed. He'd lost the love of his life to cancer and was afraid of getting close to anyone like that again. Given his tough-as-nails exterior and the way he dives head first into finding his father's killer, it just seemed out of character for him to back away from Cassidy given his feelings for her. Even so, this was a solid four and a half stars for me.
Book Two of the Texas Trilogy by Kat Martin, Beyond Danger is just a good as the first book. Martin remains true to what she does best and the action and mystery is wonderfully done letting you in on the POV of the antagonists. The hot romance does try to take a backseat to the mystery, and it makes sense both of the are professionals who want to keep working together in a professional manner, until the were-still-alive affirmation sex, then they manage to keep a professional relationship outside the bedroom until the whole situation becomes life threatening then it gets personal.
I loved the characters, Beau and Cassidy. Beau we met in the first book, each book is a stand-alone you don't have to read it, he is a retired race car driver who prefers his sports cars to the company SUV, unless it's necessary. He also has a horrible relationship with his father and hasn't been back home in the last five years the only thing that brought him back this time is the fact that his uncaring father got a barely legal girl pregnant. Beau being a better man than his father tells her he'll take care of everything. including having his father sign over the parental rights to the unborn child.
Cassidy is a private investigator, her main job is finding facts, she's very good at what she does and she loves it too. She is tenacious and will not stop until she has the answers, she's even helped co-workers to capture a variety of bunch of bad people in the past so it's no wonder that former Senator, Stewart Reese, asked her to investigate the possibility that someone may be out to get him. Reese has had the feeling that someone has been watching him so Reese moves Cassidy on to the property, but before she can really start doing her job she walks in and finds Beau leaning over his dead father with a bloody letter opener in his hand. Beau had just came back from the lawyers in Dallas with the papers for his father to sign, Beau had prepared himself for another argument but instead just finds his father dying on the floor with a letter opener in his chest.
Beau knows the police can only go so far in their investigation and as the prime suspect to his father's murder he knows he has to dig deep in his father's dirty dealings to find the real person responsible, so he hires Cassidy to help. They begin to dig deep into the dark recesses of Stewart Reese's life stirring up trouble along the way, unfortunately the more they dig the volatile the antagonist becomes and the more dangerous it becomes for Beau and Cassidy. For Beau it was lust at first sight Cassidy trying to be more professional tried to keep her feeling separate from the facts of the case, but her instincts tell her to trust Beau. The more their lives are put in danger the more protective Beau feels over Cassidy and soon he realizes it's more that just lust but before they can proceed with any kind of relationship they need to clear Beau's name and find the real killer.
Overall, another Kat Martin book to love. I always enjoy Martin's writing style and while I loved the Brodies I'm glad that these, so far, have been separate from that series. I look forward to the next book.
When Beau funds out his dad has gotten nineteen year old, Missy, pregnant he is beyond pissed. When he confronts his father and they argue he has no idea it will be the last time he sees him alive.
Cassidy has been hired to find the answers to the threat that Sen. Reese has felt, she doesn't realize that includes his own son. When she walks in and Reece has been stabbed and his son is holding the weapon she thinks she may have just found the threat.
After it becomes clear that both of their lives are in danger Cassidy and Beau have two things to figure out, who is trying to kill them and who killed the Senator. Will it be the same person or are they going to find out it's one of them?
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed reading Beyond Danger - up to a point. The characters are more or less likeable, the suspense is good and the romance is hot.
There are, however, a few plot details that don't really add up - especially the part where the author keeps insisting Beau is a murder suspect but he's still free to come and go as he pleases. If he really was a murder suspect would the police let him travel around by helicopter with no one but him knowing where he would end up (he went to work, but he could have crossed the border into Mexico just the same).
And the plot, well, it comes to a point where it complicates so much I was a bit lost. What I thought would imply solving a murder actually turned out to be a terrorist conspiracy of a scale no one could have foreseen. Kudos to the author for making it work, but honestly? It didn't feel 100% realistic.
Still, if you're looking for a fast-paced but a bit overly complicated suspense/conspiracy book, then Beyond Danger might just be perfect for you.
Beyond Danger is book 2 in the The Texas Trilogy series, but I didn't read book 1 and I never felt I was missing background information.
Beyond Danger by Kat Martin is the second book in the Texas trilogy, and my first book by this author. This book is a romantic thriller. Beau Reese is a Texas millionaire who has to put up with his father, Stewart, a retired state senator who gets a teenage girl pregnant. When Stewart is murdered, Beau is the prime suspect. Cassidy Jones is a private investigator Stewart hired to find out who wanted him dead. Together Beau and Cassidy set out to solve the murder. If your into steamy hot romance thrillers, give this book a shot.
I was given a copy of this book for a fair and honest review.
Kat Martin is a prolific writer of romantic suspense and she does not disappoint in her latest addition to her Texas trilogy “Beyond Danger”. Beau Reese is a retired race car driver who has spent his lifetime trying to distance himself from growing up as the son of a famous Texas Senator who is known for his less than scrupulous behavior. Cassidy Jones is a private investigator who has been hired by the Senator to find out who has been following and investigating him, even though Cassidy has been given a narrow list of suspects she is concerned that Beau may be somehow involved. Cassidy and Beau are thrown together after a tragic incident and they are a race against time to figure out who wants them dead. I was given an advanced copy of this book, and all of the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Beyond Danger (The Texas Trilogy) by Kat Martin # 2 in the Texas Trilogy....Beau and Cassidy's story..Beau's first love died of cancer and he never wants to go through that pain again..so he never gets involved enough to fall in love...Cassidy is a hard working PI and has taken a job with his dad...first she hears him argue with his dad. the next day he is leaning over his dying father what is she to think. Together they work to solve the murder...and that's only the beginning of the drama. So many twists and turns..and feels...laughs and tears... I loved them both and hated to put the book down... I am looking forward to BEYOND CONTROL Josh and Tory's story...Thanks to #NetGalley for letting me preview this book...and thanks to Kat Martin for another great story.
I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review. I quite enjoyed this book. It was a well written story with an interesting assortment of characters, mystery, a steady pace and a romantic element.
I enjoyed the first book in this trilogy, and was really looking forward to this story.
It took a few pages to get into it, but in true Kat Martin fashion, once it grabbed on, it didn't let go.
I remember Beau from Linc & Carly's story so it was so nice to get to know him. Cassidy is a strong little spitfire and their story is fast paced and full of adventure.
There's steamy parts, there's suspenseful parts, and there's a whole lot of whodunnit and it's all great! Can't wait for the next book!
The second book in the Texas Trilogy is fantastic! Reading Beau's story after meeting him in "Beyond Reason" was all you could want in a suspense story of Beau and Cassidy. Their romance is blazing hot, but the mystery and secrets that draw them together and keep them together will keep you reading this book till you finish it! I totally recommend it as well as the first book in the series! These alpha males and the strong women who can handle them are amazing, Kat Martin will keep you reading more of her books - I have! I voluntarily received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Exciting romantic suspense. Interesting family and friend relationships. Strong woman meets strong, but damaged man. Their lives are endangered. Cool cars! I skipped the intimate sex scenes, but the story kept me engaged from beginning to end. Not a simple solution! I look forward to reading the next one in the trilogy. The publisher provided a copy via NetGalley for my voluntary review.
This book starts off with a bang, pulling the reader into what promises to be a riveting, suspense-filled story involving interesting, dynamic characters. Unfortunately, for me personally, that really strong opening fizzled out by about 20% into the book. The pace of the story was bogged down by what I felt were unimportant details, and I found myself losing interest and skimming large chunks of text. Also, although the mystery aspect of the book is strong, the romance part takes more of a backseat; I would say this is more of a mystery with some romance sprinkled in rather than a romantic suspense book. Finally, this book is the second in the series, which I didn't realize going in. Although it became obvious that there had been a story prior to this one, at no point did I feel like I needed to have read the first book to understand what was going on in this one; this can definitely be read as a standalone. If you are looking for a good mystery with strong characters, give this one a try. If you're more interested in a romance with a suspenseful backdrop, you might want to look elsewhere.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC for review.
This one centers around Beau, Lincoln Cain's business partner from the first book in this trilogy. Beau's father has knocked up a 19-year-old girl, and when Beau goes to confront his father, he meets Cassidy, his father's new personal assistant. He returns the next day and finds his father dead, and Cassidy finds him with the murder weapon in his hand. Turns out, Cassidy is a PI, hired by his father to find a potential stalker.
What I liked: -I liked the premise of the story, and KM did a pretty good job of keeping the story moving along.
What I didn't like: -Beau lost his college girlfriend (the love of his life) to cancer. He's still grieving for her and has made the decision that he'll never get married because of it. I HATED this for Cassidy. It just seems like she will always be Beau's second choice, playing second fiddle to a ghost. She deserves better, especially in a romance novel. -Beau is still friends with everyone he's ever slept with apparently, but he can't handle Cassidy's working relationship with one of her colleagues, whom she has never slept with? Yeah, no. -The mystery part of the story is kind of a mess. Sitting here now, just a few days after finishing the book, I'm having a hard time remembering exactly what happened in the story and how it was resolved.
Kat Martin’s new series Texas Trilogy is classical love story with contemporary problems and villains.
As I said about the first book - It’s a cookie cutter story, with all the necessary ingredients just the frosting is a bit different in next books.
In Beyond Danger the storyteller is Lincoln’s friend Beau, and the story starts shortly before his father funeral. He’s mega rich and his father’s murder is something he wants to solve himself. Of course his father hired shortly before he died young and beautiful helper Cassidy, and Beau is convinced that she was his father’s last mistress when in reality she was his assistant. So a handsome, tall, powerful and controlling Beau and beautiful, vulnerable and storing Cassidy – what do you thinks where it takes us. Of course to the bed and of course their bedroom bliss is disturbed by somebody who wants to do something bad and since we live at the time when terrorism is in everybody’s mind, the villains must be terrorists and our two lovebirds save a lot of people from terrible disaster.
