Welcome to Brawlers Bar…
If there was a way to destroy his life, Hunter Black could do it. He was a catastrophe waiting to happen. Survival was his only priority and having to leave his old life behind that meant a job of the legal variety. He’d found one as a bartender at Brawlers Bar and a safe place in a huge house with the rest of the bar crew who quickly became the family he’d never had. The one thing Hunter didn’t need was his old life tracking him down.
Deputy Wren Gramble hated his job and his weekend assignment of staking out a bar in the middle of nowhere waiting for drunks. Although he’d heard the homophobic and racist jokes going around about the crew and customers, he kept his head down and stuck to his job and nothing else. He despised being driven back into the closet, but he’d reached the end of the line and what he’d do if he earned another transfer he didn’t know.
Linus Trenton was considered the normal one in his family and according to the weird ones that meant he should be punished daily. He never came out one way or another, if he found someone attractive he was attracted. His life was complicated enough having a crush on the sweet and awkward Hunter but now he had to throw Wren into the mix. Linus didn’t have time for dating or romance, most of the time he didn’t even think about having a sex life, although, Wren and Hunter were ruining his calm.
Hunter was in lust with the handsome deputy the minute the man pulled him over, but a man like that wouldn’t give him the time of day. His friend, Linus, was another matter altogether. Hunter wanted both. His bosses made it work with their man, why couldn’t he? Could Hunter prove he wasn’t as much of a screw up as he appeared or would he have to call in backup to claim his men?
USA Today Bestselling author J.M. Dabney is a multi-genre published writer of Body and Fat Positive Romance & Fiction. They live with a constant diverse cast of diverse characters in their head. They live for one purpose alone, and that’s to make sure everyone gets the happily ever after they deserve. There is nothing more they want from telling their stories than to show that no matter the package the characters come in or the damage their pasts have done, that love is love. That normal is never normal and sometimes the so-called broken can still be beautiful.
The author is Non-Binary and uses the pronouns They/Them.
It's no secret I'm a fan of Dabney's. I have read and loved all her MM series. I have to admit though, that the first 50% of this book, I wasn't sure where it was going to go. I was a little leery as to how all this would work out between Linus, Wren and Hunter.
It was obvious Linus had been harboring some hidden feelings for Hunter. Well, hidden to Hunter at least. Everyone else knew he wanted the quiet, accident prone, fuzzy bear. Then Wren steps into the picture and makes things complicated. So, there is some jealousy there initially and I don't like jealousy in my ménage books. But, as she usually does, Dabney pulled it off and it all works out. Along with two nice surprises for the guys. I have to say though, I thought Wren was going to be my favorite. But then Linus had his alpha moments and then I just couldn't decide.
I have really enjoyed these series and love how they intertwine so we get to see all the old crews plus meet some new ones. I CANNOT WAIT for Harper's story. She so deserves a HEA and I just know Ghost is going to give it to her.
3.5 stars!! While I liked this story and each character in it, there was something missing for me. I think I liked Linus and Wren together more than Hunter with either one of them. I still love this author's books and I'm looking forward to Harper's story.
Got to say I'm enjoying this series more and more - I think it's one where you get to know the characters a little more in each book. This was Hunters story, the shy, vulnerable and painfully clumsy young guy with self esteem at zero. He kept himself almost invisible although the Brawlers made every effort to break through this shield and show him love. Wren the local deputy had his eye on Hunter for a while and finally plucked up the courage to ask him out on a date. Meanwhile Linus, who had pined for Hunter for years, kissed him in a drunken moment. Suddenly Hunter is faced with two guys he likes and can't decide! Bless Wren who suggested they see how it might work as a three as he could see how much Linus loved Hunter. So dramas occur, pain and injury happen and love blossoms in the chaos ❤️ I really hope we get another book - maybe Harpers or Jokers ... wow maybe the two of them together would be even better !!
So, I’ve been following this series for a while, but after reading this latest book, I’m starting to feel kinda burned out., and this book definitely hit that “burnout” zone for me. The thing is, when a series adds so many characters, it’s easy to lose track of what made it special in the first place. And I get it, there’s only so much you can do when the same patterns keep repeating.
So, let’s talk about those characters. At this point, it feels like there are *30* of them, and keeping track of them all? Forget about it. They all start blending together into this one big, sexy mass. They’ve all got their own little backstories, but honestly? They might as well be the same person. They like the same things, talk about the same stuff, just rinse and repeat. It’s like I’m reading about the same character in slightly different outfits. The predictability is just too much, and instead of feeling excited about meeting new characters, I’m just exhausted trying to remember who’s who.
And then there’s the plot. Ugh. We’ve all seen this before. A new character shows up, they fall into the same pattern as the others, and you can pretty much guess how things are going to go. There’s no room for growth, no surprises. I’m honestly rolling my eyes at the same old, same old. It's like the author has found a formula, and they're sticking to it, even when it’s way past its expiration date.
Look, I’m not against introducing new characters. It could have been fun, but it’s starting to feel overwhelming. Instead of adding layers, it’s like the author’s just throwing bodies into the mix with no depth to back them up. And when you can barely tell one character from the other. Yeah, that’s when I start losing interest. It’s like watching a parade of faceless people walking by - you just don’t care anymore.
I get why some people might still dig this if they’re into the drama and all the explicit content, but it’s starting to feel like too much for me. The focus on sex, with no real differences between the characters or any real story depth, is leaving me feeling meh. At this point, it’s all just predictable and, honestly, kinda boring.
Wasn't sure how I was going to like this one.... I'm not a fan of menage, reads. In saying that... I loved Psycho, Tank and Elijah, and also Hunter, so I wanted to see him have some happy.
So, in this one... Hunter gets asked out by the cop that's been sitting outside Brawlers for the last year... He's insecure and has low self-esteem, which is understandable when you hear about all the guys who put him down because of one thing or another, his body type or how fuzzy he is. I think that'd be cute. Anyway, Wren asks him out and he enjoys the date, but he realizes he may have hut Linus in the process. Now, apparently Hunter is clueless, because everyone knew that Linus was in love with him...everyone but him.
Now, there's a lot of action in this one. Dirty, bigoted cops and vigilantes and commandos.... there was a lot there to work with, meanwhile, the three guys try to figure out the workings of a triad. It was sweet and I loved how the guys were with Hunter, he needed sweet and gentle I feel like.
One problem I had though, was.... Hunter, in other books, couldn't walk five steps without nearly killing himself... but, he had no problems in this one. He burnt dinner once, but that was it. He was perfectly normal and not the clumsy guy they made him out to be for the last two or three books. Its not a big deal, but that's what made him so vulnerable to me. You couldn't help but wanna take care of him. In this one, he was just insecure.... Other than that though, I really enjoyed the story and I loved the ending. Hot guys with kids are my kryptonite. Not my favorite in the series, but... I enjoyed it.
I really hope to see Harper get her story and maybe Derrick too. Really looking forward to the Executioners.
I think this one is my least favourite book in both series. it could have been soooo good but I felt as if there was zero relationship development. and nearly no explanations of Hunters background. Hunter was the least mentioned character or at least we did not see a lot from his POV a shame ... I really had high hopes
I’ll admit going in with this one I was a little leery. Ménage relationships are hard to write. Threesome sex is hard to write. All of those hands and legs and lips and other things ;) The author gets an E for effort.
I often had trouble identifying who was doing what to whom, and not just during the sexy times. There was also a subplot involving a corrupted sheriff that bordered on the ridiculous. Pure fantasyland.
Now, that being said, I still had fun with this latest bag of brain candy.
I am a huge J.M Dabney fan. No secret there! I've read all her books from her Twirled World Ink books all the way over to her Brawlers books. I will read long after this one too. I know people say you can read these as standalones, and while I sort of agree with that, I encourage you to read this in order. Each book deals with a new couple, or throuple. But the secondary characters are important. We see them throughout both series and they add something to the story. So while you can grab Hunter and read it alone you'll feel so much more if you read them together.
If you read Scary (JM's Twirled World Series) you know she can write ménage. In Hunter we have another one of those precious gems. Our characters are Hunter, of course, you've seen him in the other books. Super accident prone. You want to wrap him in bubble wrap and walk with him everywhere you go to keep sharp objects away from him. Deputy Wren is another MC. The deputy part tells you what he does for a living. He's the new guy on the force and not there to make trouble with the guys at Brawlers. He attracted to Hunter and it's adorable watching Hunter try and understand why. And the third guy in this throuple is Linus.... Lucky's brother (From Twirled World Ink) See what I'm saying about characters entwining? Anyway, He's rough and tough and can't seem to tell Hunter how he feels.... until he sees Wren scooping in.
Now I thought for a bit this was going to be a polyamorous situation. Nothing wrong with that just that Linus didn't seem to like Wren very much but the common denominator was Hunter and neither wanted to give him up. But, nope in this case it's an enemy of my lover is also my lover situation.
Really an awesome addition to this already fabulous series. Lots of action, hilarity, amazing characters! Seriously, that's my favorite part of all of JM's books. Her characters are just outstanding!
Generally not a fan of M/M/M erotica coz it’s hard to keep track of who’s doing who but I liked this book. Had some angst and I liked how they all got together.
Liked the third one (which was my first in this series) more but this was also a really enjoyable read. Guess I probably should read book 1 and 2 in the series now?
I hate giving bad reviews but in this case I am compelled. This book is a shitacular mess, I couldn't even get half way through it. It's all too much=too many people, too many things going on in each scene, too many plot lines going on at once. My biggest gripe is with the three main characters: 1. There's so little info given about the characters, you don't even have the slightest chance of getting to know them. Maybe a sentence or two of background and that's it. They're just shallow empty stereotypes (biker guy? check! military guy? check! burly cop? check!) ugh, that's literally the only information we're given! 2. Instalust/love. Really? After one single date between two of them, they're all three living together. Nobody does that! There's no connection or bond, no feeling of friendship or caring. At most there's acknowledgement of lust but with no real feelings behind it it's just empty posturing. 3. There's so much talking about "they're my brothers" "they're my team" "they're my family" but all I read was harsh teasing, arguing, and fighting. There was no caring or fondness at all. By the time I quit reading the main character had been punched twice by his friends. No reason was given. None of these other friends who "had his back" were doing much backing. You'd think at the very least there'd be a "wth, why'd he hit you?" Nope! Oh, and one last thing. I think in just about every single scene with the main character, his 20 friends are screwing like rabbits. Apparently they all share a place so they're either super loud about it (I think at one point they refer to it as squealing like a pig-how sexy is that?), or they're doing it right out in the open...like all the time. Why would anyone want to live with people like that, there'd be no safe place to eat! So, to sum up: don't look at this book and think it's just going to be some no brainer summer fun read cause all you're gonna get is a rage-headache and a bad taste in your mouth.
I was always a bit curious about Hunter, ever since I laid eyes on him. He was a part of the Brawlers, yeah, but he wasn’t really a fighter. He was the brains. But he was always quiet and every time you turned around he was injuring himself on something. So we get to see his story in this one and it’s a whopper. Hunter, lately, has been feeling a bit jealous. Every time he turns around someone is screwing someone else somewhere. If it’s not Crave making Twitch scream to the skies, it was Psycho screwing Ben outside for everyone to see, and now Bull and Gregory. What was so wrong with him that no one would love him….The problem is, Hunter doesn’t see there are two men watching him. One has been watching him for a long, long time, but was trying to be slow and easy, knowing Hunter was skittish. But Linus was in love with Hunter, hands down. And now Wren, the newest cop, was making a move on Hunter and Linus may have lost his chance. Until he gets drunk one night and kisses the dickens out of Hunter. Well, Hunter knew he had to tell Wren and then Wren and Linus both discussed what it would be like if all three could form a relationship. If Linus was game to it. Well, Linus is very much interested and the three of them start something that is very explosive. But when Linus is injured in an op, Hunter is the last to know and he’s pissed. And Wren isn’t happy either, because everyone thinks Linus has a death wish and he’s not going to allow it. They are in this together and if Linus makes this out alive, they are all going to have a serious talk. The talk got put on hold, though, for another op. But in passing a comment was made and Hunter is now pulling away. Linus and Wren have to get to the bottom of this before they lose the one man that made all this come together and keep them glued together. I should have mentioned this earlier, but this does deal a bit with physical abuse. Hunter was physically abused as a child and two other children were found abused later on. It doesn’t go into great detail so there shouldn’t be any trigger problems, but to be on the safe side, it’s here for you to know ahead of time. I love all the guys in these series, but there are certain ones that have just hit me a little harder than the others. And that’s saying a lot, considering what pretty much all the guys from all the crews have been through some ordeal or another. Hunter is one of those that hit me a little harder than the others. Even before this story, there was just something about him. He was determined to make himself invisible, even though he’s a damn good bartender. But he keeps to himself for the most part and is super quiet. Just the way he always acted, I knew something was up from his past. And when he was so down on himself being surrounded by all those couples, it nearly broke me in half. So I was so happy when Wren made a move. Even though it made Linus mad at first. And then I was even happier because both decided to stake their claim on him. Hunter needed that. He needed not one but two men to make him constantly feel loved and adored each and every day. It’s a big job, because of his past. And Linus and Wren were determined to make it known every day. And I loved them even more for it. Hunter needed love and affection. Someone that didn’t care about his past or that he has a bit of a soft belly or was hairy as hell. He needed someone that loved every inch of him for the way he was and boy did he get it. In double doses. I’m so ready to see how the next series in this batch takes off. From what I can see, Ghost will be the next one up. He’s Gregory’s cousin, if you haven’t figured that out and also from what I can see, the only m/f of the bunch. So we will see. Damn I love these crazy ass guys. http://lovebytesreviews.com/
Hunter is the quiet one, insecure, always glued to his laptop, accident prone and works the bar with Twitch. Wren is a cop and sits outside Brawlers on duty and gets to see Hunter on a nightly basis for well over a year and then gets the opportunity to ask him out on a date. But, add in Linus - ex-cop who now owns a security company dealing with "death-wish" scenario's. He has loved Hunter from afar, biding his time, both already having a deep affection for each other, but it takes one drunken kiss for Linus to realise he may have waited too long and lost Hunter to Wren.
This was a slow burn, the three of them skilfully coming together, but maybe with a touch of the "insta-love" between Linus and Wren. This is a little more full-on with Sheriff Thorpe finally getting his comeuppance, rescues, shoot outs and the addition of more characters (Trenton Security) and more kids!!
A couple of niggles - there is still the editing issue - even misspelling names has started to crop up - Twitched! Also, the use of a name, several times over in the space of a few sentences - I haven't forgotten who is on the bed......
Overall, it all ends on a strong HFN and left me content. I am assuming that the next book is Ghost from the next spin off series - Executioners. Ghost was causally introduced in this book and Harper has already been mentioned in all previous Brawlers books, but with very little background. I would still recommend reading them in order, just to get the side characters sorted, even though the romance between the MC's are standalone, the rest of the storyline is far from it.
This series is my guilty pleasure. Liked this one, didn't love it as much as the others. There were so many people in this book, OMG! The Brawlers, plus two other crews getting mentioned intermittently. This book features a menage relationship, and more than half the time I didn't know which of the three men was speaking at first. The relationship was just ok. It just kind of came out of nowhere, and they kept winging it. Hunter felt teenager-ish. It was mentioned early on how old he is, but then never again so I forgot. His description felt like he should be in his 40s but emotionally he was like a teenager.
I do love the extended family, and how they take care of each but Gregory, in all seriousness, referring to Hunter as his son, when he's only 10yrs older than him, is creepy. It's cute when they joke around. Not so much when he's threatening law enforcement.
All in all, I still enjoyed it. Like the others, this one is fully of witty comebacks, crass humor and lots of love. 2.5
Ok, so first up I enjoyed the book as I'm actually quite capable of forgetting things in certain type of stories ... as in I'm able to read in an almost superficial type of way that let's everything go, only I couldn't as it's been a few days and theses issues are still to centered in my mind so.... it's not my fav of the books, I felt the relationship at the beginning was a bit sloppy and very 'well it's happening because I said so so why not without anyone's real input or reason why there was a bother in the first place and then Warn personality seemed to shift from dominated to placid and yet not completely just overshadowed by the third. I also thought the book then seemed to forget it was named Hunter in the first place and was more interested in Linus and what could be seen as developing a back base for another spin-off or more so setting up the next one already in the works ..... mainly I found I just missed Hunter and at the end learnt little more about him then I ready knew from the other books in the series which wasn't all that much
I loved this book, but I think that was a little in part due to the fact that I love the Brawlers World, JM Dabney's writing and just this motley crew of men in general. I loved each of the three main characters individually, having met or seen hints of them in previous books, but the coming together of them as a threesome happened a bit too quick for me and it felt that the concerns and worries that someone would have in suddenly deciding to enter a three way relationship were glossed over.
But, like I said, I loved the series and this was a good end to Brawlers, whilst introducing the others who will feature in the next series. Roll on Ghost and Harper :)
Man! Hunter is a mess! He’s the world’s biggest clutz and his self esteem is super low. He wants Wren but thinks he’s not good enough and he’s worried about bringing bad things into Wren’s life.
I thought it was hysterical when the relatively straight-laced Wren gets forced into the madness that is the Brawler’s house and the non-stop nearly always visible/audible sex-o-rama!
Just as with the others in the series, we have a somewhat broken MC who meets someone with his own baggage and together they manage to “fit” and make it work.
This is not as memorable as some of the others, but just as fun to read.
Highly recommended for fans of the series, but I don’t think it’d be as good as a standalone as some of the others.
3.5 Stars ~ It feels as if I've been waiting for Hunter’s story ever since I started the series. He's an anomaly among the Brawlers crew. He's big, but that's mostly his genetics, he's hairy, but he hates that, he's not a fighter, and he's smarter than all of them put together. He spent five years in prison even though he only hacked the systems, he had nothing to do with all the jewels that got stolen. And he's the clumsiest human being I've ever seen. Basically, all of that had me eager to see him happy.
Hunter had a pretty crappy childhood and once his IQ was tested… well, he graduated high school at sixteen and headed off to college, homeless. It's no wonder he got into trouble. Scholarships only cover so much and he had to eat and live. He's been at Brawlers Bar and the farm for two years and he's happy there. He considers the guys his friends and family. Too bad he's got a crush on two different men and he can't have either.
Never say never, Hunter. Wren thinks you're hot, Linus has wanted you for forever, but Hunter is so oblivious he can't understand why anyone would want him. His parents really did a number on him. In a drunken moment, Linus kisses Hunter, and then hides from him afraid he ruined their friendship. Being honest, Hunter tells Wren about the kiss, and they both discuss the attraction between the three and whether this is something they want. Of course, they still have to talk to Linus.
I really adored the romance that developed between the three men. They truly fit perfectly together as strengths and weaknesses are very evenly matched. I was, however, a little disappointed in the very disjointed telling of the story. There were a number of things going on that the author seemed to expect me to understand and it made for more than one confusing moment. Considering I have read the whole series, I didn't expect this would be the case. However, aside from my personal issues, I adored seeing these three men get the happy ever after they all deserved… especially Hunter!
We’re back with the Brawlers gang and our shy and mysterious Hunter has managed to snag the attention of not one but two possessive men.
Hunter is a character that has been hanging around in the background but who we never really got to know. Keeping his reactions hidden behind his hair he is shy and nervous and very aware that he is a klutz – anything that can go wrong for him does go wrong. He has a past he isn’t particularly proud of and the last thing he wants is that past tracking him down. When Deputy Wren shows an interest in him he makes a real effort to not have any disasters on their date. The disaster lies elsewhere and his name is Linus. Anyone who knows the man knows he has a soft spot for Hunter but his indecision may have just cost him his chance when Wren makes his move. There is an unspoken link between Linus and Hunter however and when Linus is injured it’s both Hunter and Wren that crowd the hospital to make sure he’s ok.
Wren is a Police Deputy who works in a corrupt Police Department and a man who has a problem with the rules. Once he starts dating Hunter it is certain to make things at work more tricky for him but that problem escalates quickly when he realises just how crooked the Sheriff is and a rescue mission involving the Sheriff’s family sees his own family grow once more.
This was a great addition to the series. Hunter, Wren and Linus were always going to be great together but their road is rocky to begin with. Their fears and lack of communication could have easily made their relationship impossible but instead they stepped out of their comfort zones and made it work. As always we got to spend time with the rest of the crew – this family that JM Dabney is building really is worth becoming invested in and an absolute pleasure to spend time with.
I did enjoy this book but I had to give it three stars because the amount of errors was insane and the relationship development between all three characters felt seriously rushed and incomplete.
Hunter is dating Wren, Linus gets shot and when Hunter and Wren go to see him Wren just starts making out with Linus...like wtf? I had to flip backwards just to make sure I didn't accidentally skip a whole chapter cuz I'm pretty dang sure that up until that point Linus and Wren hadn't said more than a handful of words to each other so seriously, wtf?
The whole Linus/cop operation thing felt really jumbled and glazed over as well, the author treated it like it was something we should've already known all the details about despite having never mentioned it before.
I'm normally pretty forgiving with errors and speedy plots but this book just had too much of both for me to rate it higher than three stars and, honestly, even three stars is pretty generous, if this was the first book I read by this author and I didn't have any previous attachments to these characters I probably would've only given it two stars max.
I appreciate the author releasing books quickly and not making us wait months for new installments to this series but I'd prefer to wait an extra month or so if it would mean less errors and a more fleshed out plot. I will still most likely purchase books from this series in the future but I really hope we can get a boost in quality or this may be a series I give up on.
It was not my Favorite out of the Brawlers/Twirled World Books. But it was still good. I would definitely recommend reading the other books first in order or you might be a little lost. I think A bunch of new characters from the upcoming series were introduced in this book (because I had no idea who some of the people mentioned were) but it felt kind of rushed and a little confusing on who is who. We will see how the next spin-off series goes. I will be reading it for sure. I really do like this whole group of men. Even if this wasnt my Fav book of the series.
My Review ~
Hunter is the fourth book in the Brawlers series. I would recommend reading the series in order, starting with the Twirled World Ink series and moving into this one. Many of the characters are featured in the previous books and there are continuing storylines. Not only that..the stories are all good reads with interesting characters.
I have to say that Hunter is my favorite of the Brawlers so far. He's a very relateable character, and will be for many readers. He's a bit clumsy, and has some self-esteem issues thanks to his past. This all just makes him a very endearing character. He's one that you want to have a happy ending and find someone that boosts him up and makes him realize that he is worth it. Enter into the picture Wren, one of of the newest deputies in their town.
Wren happens to be 'assigned' to watch the Brawler's bar on a regular basis and he's definitely noticed Hunter. Finally one day he encounters the Brawler's crew out for breakfast after he gets off his shift and ends up sitting next to Hunter. They strike up a conversation and things go on from there. Mostly.. there is a huge attraction on both their parts but there's another thing, well person to consider. Linus, who's wanted Hunter for ages but never wanted to lose Hunter's friendship by asking him out and things not working. Wren however notices the attraction between the two men and after an emergency with Linus, Wren tosses out an idea that would involve all three men.
This definitely doesn't feel like most menage or poly stories that I've read previously. They didn't just dive right in and everything worked perfectly. They had to actively work to make things work, which I really liked since that is more organic to a developing relationship of any kind. I also just truly enjoyed the storytelling in this one. I'd just recently discovered this author earlier this year and have literally devoured all of their books. With each successful book the author has consistently gotten better, the stories, the characters, and the world around them feel way more natural. The interconnected worlds with the series is one of the other things that I absolutely love. You get to see those characters you enjoyed previous living their futures with the person they had an HEA with in their book.
I'll totally admit it... sexy, bearded men covered in ink is totally one of my favorite kind of men to see and read about. Their partners are mostly the direct opposite of them but they all work as couples, and as each other's family, as well. I consider this series a new favorite, and the author has quickly become an autobuy for me. So yes, I look forward to each new book that they publish and each new character they create.
I'd highly recommend not only this book but both series, soon to be 3 series with The Executioners. I can't say enough about how much you'll enjoy the stories, the guys antics, and even the secondary characters with huge personalities. Definitely pick up this book and the rest of the series. You won't be disappointed.
I enjoyed this book. Hunter is so clumsy, he’s on parole for another few years. Hunter keeps himself at a distance from the other guys at Brawlers. He looks at how happy they all are and wants to find someone for himself but he’s a complete disaster and doesn’t think very highly of the way he looks. Hunter is shocked when Wren, the new police detective that’s been sitting outside Brawlers pretty much nightly for the last year asks him out on a date, he says yes. Wren doesn’t hassle the guys that work or frequent Brawlers like his other police officers do, he just does his job. His boss Thorpe is the worst, he’s a homophobic a*sehole and if someone from Brawlers rings 911 the response time is delayed so they think Thorpe has something to do with it but they can’t prove it. Also Thorpe’s nephew Bill doesn’t fall far from the tree. He’s a homophobic a*sehole as well and constantly gives Harper sh*t. Harper’s a trans-women and a total sweetheart.
Wren and Hunter are having lunch together at the diner, Hunter’s friend Linus comes over and sits next to Hunter. They have inside jokes and get a long very well. Wren can tell straight away that Linus is in love with Hunter but Hunter’s completely oblivious. Hunter and Wren still go on their date but run into Linus, his sister Lou and the guys who work at Trenton Security. Lou is a bit of a b*tch about Hunter being on a date with Wren and tells Hunter that Linus has been in love with him for ages but at least Hunter and Wren still had a great date. Linus ends up drinking too much at Brawlers the next night so Hunter drops him home and Linus ends up kissing Hunter. Hunter freaks a bit not because he didn’t like but because he did and he’s confused because he also has feelings for Wren. He goes to his friend for advice, who tells him that he either needs to choose or see if the three of them could make it work but he really has to be honest with Wren about Linus kissing him. Wren took it surprisingly well when Hunter told him about Linus and Wren’s open to the idea of the three of them dating as long as Linus agrees. Linus and Wren don’t particularly like each other initially but that’s to do with them both wanting Hunter.
It isn’t until Linus is injured while on a job and he tells Liv to make sure he calls Wren first as he doesn’t want Hunter to be alone when he finds out the news. Hunter isn’t happy that he’s last to know but he gets over his anger pretty quickly. I enjoyed the three of them working out how they work together. I did think that Linus and Wren really worked but it may be because Hunter was quite shy so Linus and Wren stole the show. I still love how weird Linus’s family are and that they don’t have any boundaries. I really enjoyed when Linus went all alpha male. I really wasn’t expecting Charlie and Derrick but after everything their father put them through they totally deserve to have loving and caring father figures as well as an extended family of weirdos that would do absolutely anything for them. I’ve really enjoyed meeting Harper during the Twirled Ink and Brawlers Series and after everything she’s been through with homophobic a*seholes targeting her she totally deserves her happily ever after, and Ghost is going to be good for her and her for him. I’m looking forward to reading their story next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.
When I saw the title of the series I should've been clued in to what these stories are about. The Brawlers Bar and the group of people living and working around it are exactly that; noisy and disorderly.
This where we find Hunter who has been taken in by Bull and the gang and now works at Brawlers after a stint in prison. Hunter is a tall bear of a man but he is also a gentle soul. He lacks self-confidence and doesn't think much of himself.
So you can imagine his surprise when he find that Linus (of the Trenton family led by unconventional matriarch, Lily) who has been his friend for years feels more for him than just friendship.
At the same time deputy sheriff, Wren, is making moves on him. Of course Hunter shouldn't have anything to do with cops since he is on probation, especially in a town when the cops give the brawlers a hard time. Still, Wren isn't about to give up on him.
The question becomes, how can they resolve this love triangle and could it possibly become a threesome?
I'll be honest, this story was a little chaotic for me. For one there was a deluge of secondary characters. I know many of them where in previous books from the series and fans of the series would want to keep up with their faves. But it did feel a little OTT having them all in there in what seems like at the same time. Sometimes it was difficult to decipher who was saying and doing what. I had to go back and re-read some scenes. The wonky formatting didn't help.
While I enjoyed the interactions between Hunter, Wren and Linus, the development of the relationship between all three men, especially between Wren and Linus felt rushed. I can understand Linus getting shot as being a trigger for them to get together, but I wished there'd been some kind of conversation before they'd started snogging each other.
On the whole fans of the series would be excited about seeing Hunter find love and make a home with Linus and Wren while other outstanding issues are resolved. For one there's a new sheriff in town and the ending is a lovely touch. There were a few laugh-out-loud moment and some sweet ones. A good read.
Und was will Hunter?
überhaupt an Satzzeichen. Das nervt manchmal. Aber meistens ignoriert man es, weil man es wohl auch schon gewohnt ist.
I was super hesitant to go into this story, even though I've bought every single book in the Twirled World Ink series and the Brawlers without pause, I actually considered not reading this one, at least for a little while and started a new book from a different author. However, that book didn't work out and I realised that Although this authors work has endless faults, I really enjoy the stories about these guys and just needed to continue on.
I'm on the fence about ménage, this is the second m-m-m book I've read and i don't hate it but I do have quite a few issues with it which takes away from my enjoyment on the romance side of things.
I really liked this one, I could be wrong but I feel like each book the authors work has changed, sometimes positively, sometimes negatively. This book had a little more relationship angst, jealously and it definitely wasn't smooth sailing to a HEA, yet I still immensely enjoyed it and it brought me that little bit closer to liking ménage romances.
These books are all quite similar, nothing veers of course too much and I like the comforting nature that brings, not having to worry about safety relationship issues I can't handle. Still lots of affection and lots of the big, adopted, dysfunctional, vulgar and blunt family that I've adored from the beginning.
Safety. All these books I've considered safe. •No cheating, no OP, no disloyalty. •a little jealousy in the beginning before their relationship of 3 is suggested. •Before the relationship, Wren and Hunter go on a date and a few nights later when Hunter takes Linus home because Linus gets too drunk at the bar, Linus kisses Hunter and Hunter reciprocates before pulling away. Wren isn't hurt when he finds out and it's not really an issue as this becomes the catalyst for their ménage relationship.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
So, I started the Brawlers series and haven't read the Twirled series, (which I will be doing pretty soon.) I actually think it would help if the Twirled series and the first three books of the Brawler series was read first. Just my opinion.
But in Hunter we have well Hunter Black, Wren Gramble, and Linus Trenton who all get in a relationship. I don't know where Linus came in the previous books because like I said I only read the Brawlers series, but it is established that Linus likes Hunter, but he doesn't act on it and Wren moves in. Hunter and Wren go on a couple of dates and they hit it off, then Linus gets drunk and things aren't so happily ever after for the moment.
They run into trouble with the sheriff and they kick ass and take a couple names.
Ok, if I continue on this route I'll give away the entire story, so I will say I enjoyed Hunter as much as I enjoyed the other three books in the series. I think my only true pet peeve with the series started in Bull, with the guys who lived with Bull, started calling him and his lover, Gregory, dad. I can't do it, it's just weird to me, but hey, to each their own. I say that because it continues over into Hunter.
But I definitely can't wait for the next story in the series, which I hope there will be, if not I can read the Twirl series, because they are heavy in this book. Goes great for the story line.
