4.25 stars!!!

 photo 19059285_10103873631173948_1810348916730731102_n_zpsuehuqqk7.jpg

Deklan is one of those books that pulled me in from the first chapter. I was intrigued when I first read the blurb, and I loved how the story progressed. It was such a great mix of romance, mystery/crime, and it was hella steamy!

Your wedding day is supposed to be one of the most memorable and special days of your life. Kera’s wedding day was memorable… that’s for sure. Kera’s father was in some trouble/debt and she was essentially sold off to marry Sean Foley, the heir of the biggest crime family in town. That’s until Sean changes the plans. Kera is prepared to marry Sean. What she’s not prepared for is to be wed to Sean’s henchman, Deklan.

Deklan is big and scary, but also attractive. Kera doesn’t know what to think when she’s married off to him. It freaks her out at first, that’s for sure. But Deklan is so much more than meets the eye. And even though this couple is an unlikely pair with an unconventional romance, they really do ‘fit’.
“I need you,” Deklan says.  “Everything’s falling apart around me, and you’re the only thing I have left to hold onto that makes any sense.”

Sigh. Deklan. Deklan was ruthless and a bit of a brute when it came to his job, but when it comes to his wife, he’s a totally different man. I loved seeing the softer side of Deklan that Kera brings out. He was fantastic and one of my favorite heroes of Shay’s to date. Kera was a great heroine as well. She’d been dealt a crappy hand, but she tried her best to make the most of it. I love that she was independent and strong.

Deklan and Kera’s chemistry was off the charts. Seriously, these two were so hot together! This book was the perfect mix of sexy, sweet, and suspenseful. Shay Savage does a wonderful job of keeping you captivated through the entire read. Deklan is a book you won’t want to miss out on!

Overall Opinion: Meh. I was expecting more after the rave reviews tbh. I enjoyed Deklan, but Kera drove me nuts! I guess she was young, and her immaturity should have been expected -- but I just wanted to shake her! The criminal organization drama was enjoyable for what it was, but it was a little predictable. I wouldn't say I hated the story, but I definitely didn't love it either.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Kera and Deklan's story. They have met a few times casually, and are shocked when they are ordered to marry one another to settle Kera's father's debt. They follow through with the order, and the more time they spend together the more feelings start to develop. There is a good bit of crime boss drama and some sexy times...and they get a HEA ending.

POV: This was told in Kera's POV. I think it would've added a lot to the story to have Deklan's POV too.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings (not much, but I wouldn't classify it as instalove).

H rating: 4 stars. Deklan. I liked him. I think because I liked him it made it even harder for me to like the h.

h rating: 2.5 stars. Kera. She bugged me a good bit. She would go from sniveling submissive type to a demanding brat! Not a h I appreciate...

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Not really.

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: No

OW/OM drama: Yes, but not in the typical way

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: No

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had pretty good closure with a jump ahead epilogue and a HEA ending.

How I got it: I paid the $3.99 for it on Amazon.

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

4 All For Deklan Stars

 photo hottiealert_zpsvkhazgee.gif

As the title of my review implies I am giving the 4 stars to Deklan and not the story

Kera was kidnapped when she was young and this led to her dad owing the irish mafia a 'favor' this story seems to focus all around this kidnapping in one way or another. Kera's dad work's out a payment for this 'favor' in which Kera is to marry the mob boss's son Sean. A week before the wedding the 'boss' dies suddenly so Sean takes the reigns.

Sean doesn't want to marry Kera but believes he owns her due to the debt her father owes his family. Sean is a prick and seems to be having fun at Kera's expense and thought making her marry his henchman Deklin instead of himself was a punishment to her, boy was he wrong!!

I fell in love with Deklin straight away he is loyal, tough, troubled, doesn't take shit from anyone but can be sweet when needed.

 photo rubfacehot_zpsuf3sgziy.gif

For me the entire story was very unrealistic, unbelievable and far fetched. Kera is immature and very annoying but for some whacked out reason it didn't bother me. It was a hot fun read, kind of like a guilty pleasure I was only to happy to indulge in.

"You're mine now. My wife-now and forever."
description

Deklan is a stand-alone action-packed contemporary romance that will take you on one explosive ride! With an arranged marriage, kidnapping, passion, and action, this mafia romance is one that you will not forget!

description
"He wasn't any more prepared for this marriage than I was, and it puts us on similar ground."
Kera O'Conner was betrothed to the Mafia Prince Sean Foley at the young age of 15. When she was kidnapped her father's only hope at bringing her home safe was to make a deal with the devil. By securing this arrangement, Kera's parents would be able to clear their debt to the Foley Family. But years later, when the wedding day finally arrives, Kera is shocked to find that Sean doesn't want to honor their arrangement but instead hands her off to marry his bodyguard Deklan.

description
"That feeling...coming inside of my wife. Sweet Jesus..it's never felt like that before."
Deklan is a built like a beast, and Kera is fearful that Sean has decided to get rid of her permanently. Due to her upbringing in the crime world, Kera is well aware of the importance of following through with whatever her family wants. The wedding takes place, and Kera and Deklan form a connection that grows and becomes unbreakable. As Kera and Deklan adjust to married life, the challenges are vast. Kera longs for independence, and Deklan is fiercely protective of his new bride. The passion between the two is scorching hot, and it becomes clear that the two were destined for each other. As tensions with Sean and the crime world continue to evolve, Deklan and Kera cling to each other and try to find their way together.

description
"He's and enigma. He's gentle and protective of me but arrogant and brutal with others."
Told in Kera's POV, Deklan is a delicious read with a unique plot and dynamic characters. The relationship between Deklan and Kera was quite rare as they were forced together and then fell in love. Deklan is a strong alpha male, and as a trained killer his ability to show tenderness and love to his young bride only made him that much more of an enigma. Both Kera and Deklan experienced a trying past, and the healing they experienced together was quite remarkable. There were some surprising elements to the plot that will certainly keep readers on the edge of their seat the entire read.

description

Overall, I highly recommend Deklan to mafia romance fans. Shay Savage is an outstanding storyteller. With the smoking hot passion, action, and unique plot, Deklan is certainly a delicious treat!

“I’m going to take care of you, my wife…”

Wow! Loved it. I am very embarrassed to admit I am new to the talented works of Shay Savage. I had absolutely no idea what I was missing out on and I now know for sure, Deklan will not be the last book I read by this talented author. Deklan hooked me in from the get go and I just could not get enough of the suspense, intensity and steam………oh there was so much hot steam.

Kera’s dad has a massive debt to pay to the irish mafia and comes to an agreement for them to cancel his debt. He simply must allow his daughter, Kera, to marry the mob bosses son, Sean. Sounds peachy doesn’t it? Shortly before this wedding is to take place, the mob boss dies suddenly and all the ‘wedding’ plans are left up to Sean (who has now taken over from his father).

Sean decides he doesn’t want to marry Kera and because he owns her now, he believes he can marry her off to anyone he sees fit. Kera was not prepared at all for Sean’s sudden change of plans and certainly not prepared to be married off to Sean’s big, bulky, scary henchman Deklan.

“He’s an enigma. He’s gentle and protective of me but arrogant and brutal with others. I don’t know what to think of it. Either he is two people inside of one body, or one of his personas is a lie.”

Deklan oh wow, how I love thee. From the moment he marries a very scared and intimidated Kera, he promises to do right by her and to always take care of her. Not surprising giving his line of work, but Kera is very sceptical of what he means by ‘take care of.’ He may be brute and a trained killer, but to his wife, he is kind, attentive and very protective.

As the story progressed it was such a pleasure to read the different sides of both characters; the softer sweet side to Deklan and the stronger and feistier side of Kera. There were some really hot and steamy scenes between the two and the attraction and chemistry was intense, passionate and all-consuming.

“Everything’s falling apart around me, and you’re the only thing I have left to hold onto that makes any sense.”

I absolutely loved this story; it was an easy 5 stars for me as everything just worked. If you enjoy suspenseful/crime romances then definitely give this one a go. Deklan is sure to steal your heart.

This was one of these stories that from the minute you read the first page, you become hooked on the storyline. Forget sleep because you won’t be getting it, cancel whatever plans you’ve made because you KNOW you won’t make it, and be prepared to get sucked into the crazy world of Deklan and Kera’s.

Imagine being a 20 year old woman who’s about to embark on an arranged marriage with a somewhat complete stranger. That’s the reality for Kera and she’s more than prepared to follow through on the plan but when she learns there’s been a change of plans, life as Kera knows it is about to be forever changed.

“I’ll always protect you and keep you safe. No one will ever hurt you as long as I’m alive. “

From the outside, Deklan isn’t your average looking kind of guy. He’s built like a brick house and just seeing him up close, would make anyone scurry in a corner just to avoid eye contact. But on the inside, he’s caring, considerate, and having someone like Kera in his life, Deklan is determined to be the best husband he can be.

One unlikely pairing.

Two hearts falling.

Three secrets and lies.

This was the exact kind of read that I was looking for. It had action, a bit of suspense, and some smokin hot as hell scenes. I loved the chemistry between Deklan and Kera and I liked that nothing felt force between them. Being with each other felt as natural as breathing and I loved how much Deklan went out of his way to take care of Kera .

Sexy, intense, with the perfect amount of sweetness, Deklan will have you on the edge of your seat so don't miss out on this one!

A mafia arranged marriage between a big guy and an 18-year old innocent virgin girl!!!

The heroine, Kera, is too naïve and sometimes too stupid for her own good but then again, she was homeschooled after having been kidnapped at the age of 14, so what do we expect from a young girl who had no social life at all?

Deklan is a gentle soul despite his huge and scary appearance. He makes a good husband but everything is too-insta and there is no chemistry between the characters. His boss was going to marry her but then he changes his mind and tells his right hand, Deklan, to marry her and he does and then everything is too insta. There was never a build-up so nothing felt real or convincing to me.

*********************************************

Lots of things happen that put the heroine Kera’s life in danger and although Deklan always promises to keep her safe, he can’t.

I hate it when writers do that. They create an alpha possessive and protective hero and then they emasculate him by making them useless when the heroine needs them!

Another person saves their lives and if it weren’t someone else doing it, both Deklan and Kera would be dead now.

So bravo, Ms. writer, a huge alpha guy cannot protect his wife because he is an idiot who is unable to make a good plan! Well-done, very well-done!

Why in the hell would you create such a strong and fearless hero if you were going to make him useless in times of need? You frustrated me big time!

To the attention of all romance writers:

If the heoine can save herself, fine, but if she can't, please let the hero save her, not some other irrelevant person!!!! What is the point of creating an alpha possessive/protective hero, then, right?

*********************************************

Writing:

The writing was dull, unable to make me feel and I was bored the whole time. The book couldn’t keep my interest and I was only able to finish it in a week! That's not my normal, I finish reading a book in one day or two days tops!

It is from 1st person point of view (Kera's).

*********************************************

There was something which bothered me a lot and I didn’t care about the book after that point.

*********************************************

Safety:

She is abused by someone.

Kera and Deklan stay faithful to each other. So, no cheating.

No protection whatsoever from Day 1 when they knew nothing about each other, which leads to a “too-soon pregnancy” – yay, just the way I like it – NOT!

5 I want More Stars

I’m really surprised on the reviews on this one. I really liked Deklan. I usually love Shay Savage books and this one was no different. I loved the way it was written, the characters and plot. I wouldn’t have changed anything about it.

The main Heroine was suppose to marry the head mafia boss’ son, but something happens and now she marries Deklan. He’s just a random dude in the ranks. Usually I wouldn’t go for this storyline, but there’s something about Deklan that just makes the story.

Deklan was the star of the book and I wouldn’t have it any other way. He’s an alpha male and he knows how to handle the situation.

Some people found the book dragged out at times, but I found it refreshing. I liked the every day life to life aspects of the relationship. I liked seeing the characters getting to know each other. I read this book in one siting and I wanted to read more.

There is a mafia storyline and some action. It’s not the focal point of the book, but it’s there. The book mostly focuses on the main characters and I liked that.

I say take a chance on this book, it completely worked out for me.

This would have gotten an even lower rating, if it weren't for the fact that Shay Savage wrote it...

I have loved every story she has written so far, but this...*shrugs*

Not much to say, really...

Generally, I thought that the premise didn't have much sense from the beginning...and then towards the ending, characters turned into blubbering mess of schizofrenics and the whole story lost the bearings of any substantial quality for me...not even the hero could pull the story from the downfall trivia...

Still on family time and not posting much, sorry for that!

OK this book is certainly a "it's not you it's me" or "the wrong book at the wrong time" as I usually love Shay Savage's books. It pains me to give it only three stars as Shay wrote it took her a long time to finish this one so I guess it was dear to her heart.
Anyway I promised to never lie in my reviews. A,d why would I? Reviews are personal and not a universal code for buying or not a book so the author should not feel personally hurt by my comments as plenty other readers would certainly love this one.

So in a nutshell:

-I found the heroine quite bland. She is not a bad girl but she is too compliant for my taste. Of course it goes with her upbringing and her violent father. Kera has always been used to obey if she did not want to be beaten up. She was born in the mafia and knows women's place. Add to it her abduction years ago and her being home schooled and you can understand why she would behave such way.
I wouldn't probably have dared refuse an arranged marriage with the mob heir either.
I understand her behavior but it did nothing to make me like her as a heroine. I did not despise her either. I was rather indifferent and that's not a good thing in books.

-the plot was quite linear. I expected more from a mafia story. More shooting and ...
I get that the book's purpose was Deklan and Kera's relationship, the mafia scheme coming second. As much as I loved reading about their budding love it did nothing to keep me enthralled. I got a little bit bored again not a good sign.

-I loved Deklan! He was the highlight or the story. I do love a big alpha brooding hero being a softie with his woman. Deklan was the perfect hero. He did not ask to marry Kera but once he did he dedicated all his will to make her happy and lay good foundations to their union. He was very protective, stubborn but he loved he so much he wanted her happy and could accept her requests for some freedom. Supportive, good lover, passionate he did all he could to make Kera happy.

So would I recommend this book? If my issues aren't your issues then yes as Shay Savage knows her writing.
Will I read other books from this author? Of course!

An okay read.

It has a plot and started off great but by the middle of the book I was "Zzzz yawning out of it."

Hero was okay- he looks alpha and has this "DontMessWithMe" aura but again throughout the story I don't know what happened but he didn't look strong anymore. He's faithful though and "nice" so I guess that's something. Heroine was "meh", she's submissive and kinda weakish, i don't mind that- I kinda dig doormat heroines but again- seems like everything was just okay, lukewarm characters and story so I can't really give this more than a 3 stars!

Deklan had all the bells and whistles of a good mafia read. Solid storyline, excellent plot and wicked killer villains. Sure the predictability factor was there and got overly sweet towards the end but the overall enjoyment......excellent. I really loved how Shay Savage doled out the suspense. A little at a time until like an orgasm everything climaxed.

I was so eager to start this book; unfortunately it ended up just an ok read for me. The first half of the story just really dragged on; and the second half did pick up a bit with a few twists and turns.

Deklan was the hero who saved the book for me. I did quite like him, although I still felt there could have been way more depth to his character. Kera, on the other hand was one of those heroines that annoy me. From her whining about stupid things to making poor decisions.... I just couldn't respect her.

I would read a second book if one comes out; there was a secondary character who I think could have a potential great story! I have enjoyed other work by Shay Savage a lot, so I'm hopeful that if she continues I won't be disappointed!!! I sure hope I'm right!

A lot of readers loved this book, so maybe this is a just me kind of story! If you enjoy mafia reads with arranged marriages, give this a go! The violence isn't brutal or descriptive at all, so in my opinion this isn't as dark as a lot of the other mafia type books out there!

This book was alright. I enjoyed it. It felt a bit dragged towards the middle , the author could have shorten it but I was okay with it because the second half was filled with plot twists and action. I really enjoy it when the male protagonist isn't an asshole and cares for the female protagonist. Deklan is the hero of the book and he is such a remarkable protagonist. From the beginning he was understanding towards Kera. It was fun to see them adjust with their life.

Instead of dragging about Kera's daily life, the author could have focused more on the secondary characters. That will add more depth on the story. There could be a good side story with Brian, Sean or Teagan. For example, if Sean's character was explored more it would be more interesting to see how his mind works. For me, he is a total psychopath. His obsession with Kera could be more explored. Teagan also had potential. There could be more scenes of Teagan and Deklan as Teagan says he was more of her brother than Sean was. Brian's story could have need explored, such as his relationship with the prostitute he fell in love with. He killed the pimp for her and Deklan helped him. There was so much more could have been done. It would be more interesting if the book was also from Deklan's perspective along with Kera.

It wasn't a bad book but instead of showing Keras boring life in the middle of the book, if the author explored the secondary characters, it might not become boring.

DNF @ 23%!

Arrange marriage/marriage of convenience is my fave trope in mafia books. Possessive alpha heroes are my thing, but a gentle henchman is not. Immature, crying heroine...can't stomach...

Sorry...

I am honestly baffled, I can’t believe this was a Shay Savage book.

It took me 3 days to finish it. And I barely did, at that. I wanted to DNF so many times but I stuck to it because come on, this is Shay Savage! Surely some awesome twist will happen soon. Some action. Just something, anything interesting. I saw some comment from her saying something like “trust me to make you think/to give you something different” and it stuck with me. So I kept waiting for that outside-the-box plot twist, but it never ever came. I was hoping that maybe she will at least change POVs at some point and that will bring some excitement.

It was utterly boring. Nothing interesting happened. The heroine’s life was so damn bleak and depressing (even with Deklan). Deklan said all the right things (well, most of the time) but I couldn’t care less about him because I didn’t see enough to connect in any way. The heroine was well-built as a character and Shay stayed true to her character, but it was such a boring, and at times infuriating character, that I couldn’t even appreciate that much. She was an extremely sheltered, head in the sand type of person. And those moments when she’d go off asking a million questions like a 3-year-old!!! I admire Deklan for not going off on her…because I definitely would’ve. She was so annoying at times…unfortunately, a lot of times.

And we had to be in her head the whole time. We had to be with her when she cooked and cleaned (thankfully, not a step by step process). When she went to work at a coffee shop because she was so bored and she couldn’t use any device with internet in her own home. When she told her best friend things we’ve already read about. Basically, for a large chunk of this book, I felt like I was reading about the life of a bored (and boring) person. What was the point of this book?

And them falling in love? I didn’t believe it for a second. To me, it pretty much felt like a convenience thing. They both had to get married because they didn’t have a choice, they were both nice to each other, they were attracted to one another, so it worked out for the best. Plus, the hero was raised catholic so marriage was sacred to him and the heroine was…well, let’s go with submissive (as a person). I wouldn’t consider this some all-consuming love by any stretch. Those short time jumps definitely didn’t help either. And I felt like the tone of the relationship was almost the same throughout the book, I didn’t really feel at any point, “oh, now they’re starting to fall in love”.

As for the story… I would not say there is one. It’s them getting married and learning to live with it. Any other moderately suspenseful parts are painfully obvious - all of them. Plus, they’re not very fleshed out because the heroine only took a small part of them. Most of them felt intentionally obvious, they were that obvious - but I can’t tell why the author would want to do that?

I tried to be understanding of the heroines’ inexperience with life, but it was difficult not to get annoyed when she just didn’t understand such obvious things. Especially since she might’ve been sheltered, but based on what she said, she also spent most of her time online and learning. And her thought process for not telling Deklan some things, ugh! I can kind of understand regarding Sean, but there were too many other instances where her silence made no sense. Or things like, what could a bag full of zip ties and the like could possibly be doing in my husband’s car? Sure I know he beats people up and kills them, but zip ties…? I’ll have to think on that, me thinks!

Another thing that annoyed me was how by the end, I didn’t feel like the reason for their marriage was even explained. I think it’s a bit of a cop-out to just say and then boom, just accept everything. Accept the fact that he didn’t marry her even though he’s apparently obsessed with her. Accept the fact that he made her marry someone else. But, why? And if I don’t even believe in the catalyst for their being together, how can I appreciate the book?

Even the sex scenes were boring and after a certain point, I just started to skim them.

The only time I felt something similar with a Shay Savage book was with Alarm, so maybe it’s the heroine POV that isn’t working? I think that if it were in the hero’s POV or if it were 50/50, it could’ve been much better. Then, we wouldn’t have to be in that girls’ head for so long, plus the hero definitely did more interesting things than the heroine did. I don’t mind heroine-only POV, but I have to feel the emotions, feel like I know the hero…and I didn’t with this book.

And all of those 5-star reviews for the arc!! action packed, really? Edge of your seat? Surprising plot twists? I’m not saying you can’t like the book, but you can’t pretend it has things it just doesn’t have. In the first few days following its release, by reading the reviews, I actually thought I was reading a different book - but now that more reviews are coming in, things are making more sense.

That said, I’ll continue to read Shay Savage, because she is a great writer and she creates great characters and storylines - I just didn’t think it was the case with this book.

Shay Savage is back with another romance!

Deklan combines romance with suspense as a young girl is given to a mob family as payment for debt. Only that’s not how it plays out. After the Foley family carries out the favor for a lowly criminal, the debt can only be paid when his only daughter is handed over. Only it’s not the newly crowned mob boss that is going to be the one taking her hand, it’s the family’s henchman, Deklan.

Shay shakes things up a bit, giving us Kera's POV, an innocent young woman who gets tossed into the world of mobsters, hitmen and marriage all over the course of a few days. What I loved about Deklan was that beyond the brooding, strong arm for this mafia crime family, you just knew he had a kind heart.

I loved watching Deklan go from brute to softy when it came from switching from job mode to husband. He was mindful of how Kera’s situation affected her, he gave her a little room to breathe, but also knew when she had to be taken out of her own head. Their chemistry was off the charts once things progressed, but those first moments were laced with a softness that was unexpected.

Deklan was a fantastic love story that instantly will hold your attention. You’ll blush at all the dirty moments, swoon right alongside Kera when Deklan turns on the charm and you’ll be on the edge of your seat until the very last page!

Another 'it was okay' read. It was nothing emotional, or captivating. A weakish heroine, a nice enough hero, an okay love connection between the two. Nothing spectacular. Sadly, it's probably hard to live up to Savage's other amazing books, but this one fell into the fluffy side of romance with some predictable-trope.

Wow!!! This book was terrible. It started out pretty good with a young girl in an arranged marriage but a day before her wedding she is told she is to marry another man. Deklan was a caring, loving husband and could have been a favorite of mine, but he was too soft for my liking and allowed his young stupid wife to be an even bigger idiot. Kera was one of the worst females I have read in a while and is why TSTL exist. The entire second half of this book was a waste of time and I'm sorry I didn't DNF, instead I read this mess to the end.

DEKLAN by Shay Savage was such a GREAT, EXCITING, and SEXY read! With the perfect blend of suspense, intrigue, and romance, DEKLAN quickly became an unputdownable read. I've always enjoyed Ms. Savage's books, but there was something about Deklan and Kera's story that tugged on my heart and wouldn't let go.

"You're mine now. My wife-now and forever. I will always protect you and keep you safe. No one will ever hurt you as long as I'm alive."

I absolutely love an ALPHA MALE with a tender heart, and that is exactly what Deklan Kearney is. He is gruff and brooding on the outside, but when he is alone with Kera O'Conner, the woman he was told to marry, he is gentle, caring, and protective. These two characters together were absolutely beautiful. Their circumstances might be unique and not of their own free will, but they know how it works in the world they live in, so they make the best of it, and they are loyal to the end. I have to say if I was forced to marry someone, Deklan would not have been a hardship for me AT ALL!

"Relax."

"I don't know what I'm supposed to do."

"You can do whatever you want, as far as I'm concerned."

"Touch me."

"Where?"

"Anywhere."

Deklan is a beautiful brute of a man, but when it came to his loyalty and to Kera, he was a gentle giant with a big heart and a good soul. I absolutely ADORED this man throughout this book. Both Deklan and Kera made this book SHINE! Their chemistry, their hesitant interaction, and then their explosive connection. Just WOW! An all-around GREAT read with plenty of suspense and dark elements to keep me captivated the whole way through. A great balance of light and dark, sexy and sweet, suspense and romance. I couldn't get enough of this book! I loved this world that Shay Savage has created and I want more!

The beginning had me looking like

Because this is so up my alley, and the only way I found this first was because of a friend so THANK YOU!! And then the mails started to come in from the release of this one, but at that point I had I waiting on my kobo. So I would say THANK YOU ALL for pointing this one in my direction!

I would've got this a higher star if it wasn't for one thing that happened that bothered me quite a bit. But life isn't always easy or simple it's hard and it depends on how you cope with it all.

Deklan is an instant like, he is just so fantastic! Sometimes Kera worked a bit on my nerves, but it's quite normal when you get married off that your not enjoying life at the moment. And if it's with a giant than I can understand that you fear for life.

Along the way I fell in love with them both, they are so good together.

One thing I would've liked was a bit of a longer epilogue that way we have a bit more closure.

I haven't read a good mafia book in a while and this one blew me away 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Though there were somethings that could have been a bit better I think it overall really drawed me in and shocked me at many points.

This book was PERFECT for an introduction to Shay Savage’s writing. This might be my first book by her but it will NOT be my last. This writing kept me quickly turning the pages and sneaking in some reading breaks at work. I’d have a minute here or there and be staring at my Kindle app with Deklan on it. I’ve found that I’ve really developed a thing for mafia romance but this story really has meat to it, ya know? It just grabbed me from Savage’s first words.

I loved Deklan… he has this bad boy vibe going on that every woman loves! He was so much more emotional than I was expecting… plus he obviously just adores Kera. He treats her like his queen. There might had been a few times I wanted to strangle him. He’s totally a dominating, alpha male but has this sweeter, gentler side. I liked seeing Kera come into her own. She’s always been told what to do and when to do it… and listened. Her friendship with Kathy is adorable. Everyone should have a friendship like that. For such a deep book, Deklan made me laugh out loud several times.

Shay Savage has earned a one-click lifer with Deklan. Just the ability to write a book that has so many different feelings in it… it’s jam-packed with romance (hot and steamy), mystery and suspense, along with some good-natured humor. Savage wrote a brilliant mafia romance that is FULL twists and intrigue. Seriously, I was surprised with how many shocking twists were in these pages.

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I will leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

Shay leaves a note for her readers at the end of this book, stating that it took awhile to write this one since this was the first book she published, since becoming a full-time writer and no longer a part-timer in story telling... Well the struggle to complete this novel certainly shows.

Now, I will be the first to recommend a book by Shay Savage. I've been a fan of hers since her first publication of Evan Arden.. But if you are a fan of Ms. Savage, and are familiar with her writing prose, I highly doubt that you'll love this book....

Walk with me for a moment...

Now, this book starts off strong. It's very engaging and interesting. The fact that I was able to finish the book however, is the only great thing I can say about it though.. OH! And I must not forget my baby Evan Arden!!! He was the BEST addition to this story... Though you only see him twice, what he does in this book is classic Evan...

The synopsis and the first 7 chapters lead you to believe this will be a greatly intense read. By the time you get to chapter 11 and beyond, you realize that will just not be the case. This book has all of the ingredients that one would use to make the perfect meal. BUT, it appears this meal was made using only measuring cups and not actually preparing and cooking from the soul. So a few measurements were off the mark. Some too little, some too much. Which leaves us with an overcooked on one side, and under-cooked/runny meal on the other side of the pan.

Let's start with the obvious- The name of this book is called Deklan.. So why am I only stuck in Kera's mind and POV for the entire story? I never once got Deklan's POV and I never once got to actually see Deklan in his element when he's off working for the Foley's. Also, there were a few instances that made Deklan look weak and I didn't like that AT PHUCKING ALL..

Deklan is leaving Kera for hours out of the day, sometimes going out of town. But we see everything only through Kera's eyes. Who is kept in the dark for most of the time, so her view is limited. Therefore she's either boring me to tears or ticking me off. Especially when she calls herself trying to excercise her right to disagree with Deklan's decisions, but she does it on things where she seriously should be taking her cues from him; because of the situation or issue at hand..

She has nothing to do all day. To the point that she's begging to work at a dang coffee shop just to kill the boredom and have some human interaction! Which leads her to make really dumb choices and rationalizations. She's 20 yrs old, sheltered since an awful ordeal happened to her at 15, but she is not an interesting character at all.. Deklan made her tolerable, but being stuck with her POV through this entire book, was torture. And it doesn't help this story at all.. It hurts it greatly.. They also began with great chemistry but this fizzles out around the mid way point of the book.

All of the major plot points and action is given to us as an afterthought. We don't get to see anything play out, because it's all told to us after the fact, and through Kera's POV. So again, this keeps us from being with Deklan. Inside his head and seeing what he's doing.

Also, again, the plot was centered around Kera.. The catalyst and point was all about Kera, NOT Deklan. This book just should have been called Kera or something else..

The way all the things were resolved left me with a feeling of Really? That's it?

The Villain here, what a joke... I wasn't even scared of him. He was nuts yes, unbalanced to the extreme but he still came off as more of a petulant child with access to dangerous weapons, but not someone who is truly dangerous, IMO.. At the end of the day I couldn't really take him or his threats all that seriously.. Even though he shows us that he has no problem with taking lives.

The Epilogue would have given this book 3 stars if something that Deklan requests of Kera was never brought up. Like really? What makes you think she's even capable of doing what you are now asking of her? All she did was phucking whine and make dangerous, stupid decisions the WHOLE time! And you're more well versed in navigating this world than she'll ever be. WTF you need her help for, Deklan?

So no.. I didn't like this book. At all..

This book is currently on KU or $5.99 to purchase (It is not worth that price)
